  1. @Brakk suggestions on a ghost type? @groniack Yea I think I'll do that, I want people to see pros and cons in every starter and most other psychic types wouldn't get picked. @Phi-Bi I'm still going to make a few adjustments and all the Pokémon will probably have an egg move. As far as the plot is concerned let's just say it makes sense why the voice is between a random assortment of Pokémon and the player will receive a traditional starter eventually.
  2. Any unrelated ideas such as the graveyard and thunderstorm mentioned above would still be useful since the plot could really go anywhere from here.
  3. Thanks for the resource guys I'm sure it will come in handy. As far as in game situation I'm mainly thinking of field effects for the first 2 gyms since that's as far as development has gone. The first gym is an ice type gym with a stage / ice rink theme as the gym leader is a famous figure skater. The second gym is normal and is located in an art museum as the leader is a artist. Hope that helps
  4. I changed it from Drowsee to Munna, Abra is out of the question unfortunately since I don't want to give the players a free Psychshock tm off the bat.
  5. speed boost torchic in reborn is much more op then a drought Vulpix. I agree that Drowsee may be underwhelming but serves as a special wall that can set up screens. Other psychics like Ralts are to strong, Solios and Gothita evolve to late and Abra is stuck with teleport.
  6. My knowledge of scripting is fine, when looking through the scripts field effects don't seem to be the most intuitive thing out there. I suppose I was a little vague but I certainly didn't write this because I'm to lazy to figure it out. Thanks to you steering me in the right direction I actually have a good understanding of what parts of the script are affected and what I'd need to add / change to customize them to my liking. So thanks for that.
  7. Question is self explanatory, have a lot of ideas for field effects but do not know how to implement them and haven't figured it out by going through Reborn's scripts.
  8. So after seeing what you guys think and talking with my team about it this is the list we came up with that is not final. Note: I did not want to include anything that evolves via happiness, I did however purposely pick Pokemon that have one evolution which happens somewhere in the mid 20's on purpose. The player will receive a traditional starter in transition from the early to mid game so this mon is suppose to get them there without making things to easy. With that being said some Pokemon that were suggested were not picked because they evolve to late, are to strong or because I intend to make it an event Pokemon within the game. So here is the current list. Normal: Lilipup Flying: Starly Bug: Venipede Dragon: Axew Dark: Zorua Fairy: Flabebe Electric: Electrike Fighting: Makuhita Poison: Nidoran Ground: Phanphy Rock: Rockruff Ghost: Misdreavous Steel: Magnamite Fire: Vulpix Water: Poliwag Grass: eggecute Ice: Sneasel Psycic: Abra (will start with confusion) Feel free to ask why I made some of these choices, and for those curios about why picking Pokemon that evolve via stones. The player will be given the stone that corresponds to their starter at a point in the game. This idea comes from the people working on Phoenix Rising.
  9. As I said to someone else our game will use the concept of field effects but create our own, have 18 gym leaders and a level cap but beyond that a bunch of features rarely seen in fan games and a completely different direction in terms of plot and atmosphere so I think will be something unique that people here on the forums will enjoy as much as those who haven't played a "challenging" fan game yet.
  10. Hey everyone. So alot of fan games either use traditional starters, give you a quiz to determine your starter or force one onto you. Now without giving to much away if I told you that our dev team wants the player to be able to choose between 18 starters ( one per type ) what Pokemon should be the representative for each type? Note that this game will be challenging and the starters should be strong solid choices but not to the point that everyone will pick the same one because it makes the early game easy. Edit: If it matters the first gyms will be ice followed by flying.
  11. A few ideas that I have are a stage-like field which doubles the stage increase of "dance" moves and increases damage of moves that are "flashy", also an ice field that freezes water attacks turning them to ice and is so cold that fire attacks do less.
  12. Hey everyone. So I'm part of a dev team and we are using the field effect system of reborn in our game. However we want to make completely new ones. So drop some ideas if you have any.
  13. I do intend to use the field effects adding some that I designed, level cap and 18 gym leader format. Beyond that the tone and tiles will be radically different. I agree that Rejuv put itself in Reborn's shadow but I wouldn't say that it or Desolation are "cheap knock offs". An argument can be made that most Pokemon fan game players are more interested in an amazing story than they are with amazing game play (Take both pf Suzerain's games as an example). Considering our project is taking has 3 core Reborn mechanics and will boast a multitude of mechanics that very few devs have played with I believe we'll be able to distinguish ourselves from Reborn and its counterparts.
  14. I have the Reborn PBS and pulled out the scripts I'll need. Coding isn't much of a problem and I do intend to add field effects, some of the Reborn ones just feel like must includes. For those worried that I'm going to end up making a Reborn knock off I can assure you that is not the case as me and my team already have a direction we want to take. Although the inspiration comes from Reborn with new features, tile sets and a completely different atmosphere the difficulty and field effects won't be the only selling point. Also Groniack I already made a custom trainer card and tinkered with the script to get it to display 18 badges correctly.
  15. I probably should have been more specific. I have my own vision in mind for the atmosphere of the game. I want Reborn's 18 gym system, level caps and field effects. But I understand that there's already Rejuv and Desolation as similar games in terms of being "edgey". My ideas are more in line with how Suzerain did Z/O and Insurgence in terms of style. Thanks for the advice though I really appreciate it!
  16. Hi everyone! So I have a decent amount of experience in Pokémon game design. (Stopped working on my original project because of school). If I wanted to make a game with Reborn as the template (similar to what Jan did) how would I go about it? Edit: Let's not turn this into a Desolation discussion. (Although the Conor fight wasn't that bad)
  17. What type should I mono-run and why?
