  1. @Noctelis I have that penned in as the change for now. Since grass probably won't get much love regardless I'd rather see water get some love. Yea I'm sure when I make the official post and people notice abra will have confusion it will be one of the most popular. Kinda made this expecting just the familiar faces I've seen in all my post to respond so they already know about that change. @Filthy Casual it's not actually broken I just think it's really good and being overlooked. You get the first ability capsule right before the first gym so it helped me break the hail set ups(spoiler). I also just have a bias towards Vulpix as my favorite kanto Pokemon.
  2. @Noctelis Zeta / Omni use Horsea, Magby and Bellspeout as starters so I'd rather not use two of those. If we change water to be Horsea I'll need to switch bellspeout and picking a grass starter is probably the hardest thing to do. @Filthy Casual Yea I thought they'd be pretty popular. This poll won't be all that accurate due to the small sample size so maybe more people will end up using it. Also, since I just ran through the game one last time before starting the graphics overhaul. Drought Vulpix OP boys.
  3. So idk how many people are going to see this here, but I just need a few opinions so I don't want to make a full topic out of this. I already decided to change the electric starter to mareep in hopes of people being drawn to 2 evolutions. But I'm a bit perplexed as to why we have no love for Poliwag, its really hard to pick a water type that isn't either overused in games or just to good to be a starter. So if anyone can think of some alternatives that people might like I'm all ears.
  4. Hola, back again with some more frequent posting. This time we'll be talking about the concept I've been playing with for my game's evil team. So to give the tldr they are the loyalist of a tyrannical king who was recently overthrown, their main goal is to take down the new governing council and bring the king's son to power as the rightful heir and they are known as Team Royal. The basis of the idea is that they are ranked like pieces on a chess board (Pawn, Rook, Bishop, Knight) and each rank uses a different theme of Pokemon which you guys can try to figure out based on the info given. The admins are the former elite 4 of the region who were stripped of their roles and Pokemon for keeping allegiance to the king during the war. They are known as the 4 aces and are represented by a suit, spades, clubs, diamonds and hearts. No one knows who the team leader is only that the code name given to them is Queen. The "rightful" heir is the King in the chess analogy. Note: Its probably important for me to mention that this team is suppose to make you (The player) question right from wrong and ultimately decide which side you think rightfully should rule the region. (Or that you should do it yourself). Anyways I'd like to know what people think of the concept, I think its pretty cool and unique. Originally I was going to have multiple factions but Insurgence is already famous for that plus I found a different way to incoperate that idea in the form of guilds.
  5. Hello friends! Even when I decided to make a game I didn't imagine I'd be posting here so much, but all the awesome people keep bringing me back. Now it's time to tackle one of the most important decisions devs have to make. What style of graphics will I use? So on the surface this is a easy question, pick either what's most appealing to the audience or what best suits the tone and atmosphere of your game. When It comes to Pokémon the two common choices are gen 3 or a mix of gen 4-5 style. Time for a comparison. Gen 3 has been used for so long that there are sooo many til sets available and they are really easy to edit and customize even for those who aren't good with the artsy stuff, they are also the fan favorite. Gen 4-5 is technically higher quality and less used due to there not being tilesets for every situation or many custom ones that are public. Pokémon Empire has been using gen 3 graphics and recolored default tiles. Recently with all the support I've been getting my brother and I decided to switch to gen 4-5 just to be a bit more unique. With this comes the challenge of editing gen 4 over world trainer sprites which for some reason seems a lot more difficult. So this topic was a lot less informative than the first, but there isn't really much technical talk with graphics that isn't directly related to spriting and making tilesets (which will be saved for another talk). Hope you guys got to see the thought process of how devs look at graphics and how they are chosen. Til next time!
  6. @Swamp King also doesn't hurt that the first two gyms are ice and flying giving it a huge advantage
  7. @seki108 I did exactly that. Every starter who got new moves just had egg moves put in at reasonable levels. As far as changing some evolutions is concerned all the ones that were changed float between 34 and 38. All of the changes will be laid out in detail whenever the official game post is up.
  8. Hello trainers! So this is the first in a series of Dev talks that some people in the Insurgence discord persuaded me to do. Each one of these post will talk about a specific RPG concept and how its being applied in fan games with an emphasis on my own since other people might take a different coding approach. Now with that out of the way lets get started shall we? A reputation system has becoming increasingly popular in fan-games. I can't pinpoint who the pioneer would be but my inspiration comes from traditional PRG games like the Fable series. But how exactly does it work? In very simple terms every choice made can increase, decrease or keep a variable neutral to varying degrees based on importance. This variable determines the player's reputation with any trainer. Because of this it is easy to create an event with several outcomes, will trainer Z fight besides you or betray you? The decisions made up to that point will determine that. Pokemon Empire benefits from such a feature as throughout the game optional side quest chains will be everywhere, trainers met in these as well as those who have a part in the central plot will all have reputation variables. Many rewards and side quest endings will change depending on choices as well as entire arcs of battles in the main plot being determined by such things. A very unique use of this system will be that at max reputation trainers will be willing to join the player's rebellious cause to free their region, it should be noted that it is impossible to have max rep with all trainers so the people fighting alongside you in the end game will differ from player to player, as well as the enemies you have made along the way that will be fighting against you. That concludes the talk, as this is the first one I'm sure that there will be plenty of criticism which is fine. I mainly want to know if people would be more interested in the technical aspects of the topic or if I should make these more fun and lively and less like serious reads.
  9. Thanks to the feedback I figured I'd make a poll for this as well. Some of the starters are being overlooked due to weak level up moves (Sneasel, Venipede, etc) and some due to evolving via stone or trade stone + item. (The player will receive the corresponding evolution item at a reasonable time). Regardless if you would like to see better level up moves or Pokemon that evolve by trade stone + trade item evolve via level up instead just do the poll.
  10. Time for an optional challenge trainer who has an entire team of joke sets. Thanks for the idea!
  11. @Noctelis There will be an event at a reasonabale point in the game where the player will get the evolutionary stone or item for their starter. So for Sneasel that would be its razor claw and "Trade stones" will be a reward for some side quest so you won't be waiting forever to evolve your starters. Alternatively if people would prefer I could just make all Pokemon that evolve by item+trade evolve via level up. Might make a poll for that too actually. Edit: Rip Bellspeout, I love the little guy @V for Vendettaand @Jess thoughts on rebalancing some of the starters like Venipede and Sneasel that have poor movepools by giving them better stabs?
  12. @Noctelis Yea the early game won't be too kind to Axew. There will be plenty of event Pokemon that will cover his weaknesses and help make gym battles a bit easier. Rockruff is turning out to be quiet popular.
  13. Hello once again, I'm starting to become a regular on these forums after lurking on it for the longest time. Anyways I didn't know what to name this topic, but the jist is that I wanted to incorporate some of the awesome community in my fangame. Most of the gym leaders and other important figures are friends of mine irl. But im sure some of you would like to see yourselves in a game. So if your interested just make a comment somewhat similar to this. trainer name: trainer type: Favorite type, types or theme for a team: Ace Pokemon: Character traits or personality: (optimal): if you were an important figure what would your sprite be like: Edit: Thanks for all the submissions! You won't all be in the first public release of course but don't worry. Somewhere in my giant word document and excel sheets all your trainer info is saved.
  14. @Wolfox I picked Makuhita as the fighting type over the likes of Timburr and Maxhop because I felt people understood it a lot. I think it's awesome so I hope people give it some love. Also doesn't hurt that the first gym is ice so it kicks butt there.
  15. Hey guys, after all the help I've gotten with this list I wanted to see what the most popular choices are. If you partake in this poll I'd like to know the reason for your choice in the comments.
  16. Hey Matt. So I spent a long time debating how to do starters in my own game. Many people are going to dislike the the forced starter idea because they either don't like the Pokemon given or just prefer the original element triangle. I decided to not take the forced starter approach but it seems like it will work well for the direction you want to take your game. Insurgence and Desolation found success without using the standard type triangle so don't be deterred by everyone's opinions. On a side note, before making this post you probably should have had an idea for a never before seen feature in a fan game ( or else people will tear you apart for being unoriginal ). With that being said don't stress it if you haven't thought of one. People overrate this aspect of fan games by a metric ton, if having a unique feature was the most important selling point people would have overlooked Rejuv entirely. Wish I could offer you help but spriting is my weakest point as well, however if you ever want someone to bounce ideas around with feel free to reach out. -Good luck and cheers!
  17. @groniack Thanks! You've been in a few of my other post giving ideas so I'll be sure to message you if I need help with a piece of code or anything like that.
  18. @Noctelis Soon enough we sure will need a few more play testers. Right now we have 3 testers but before the public release we'd ideally have a few more. Will defiantly let you know.
  19. Introduction Hello everyone! I'm Casper one of the two devs for Pokemon Empire. Now instead of making a normal dev topic I wanted to make this since we don't want to make a topic for the game here until we are ready to release the first public version. So first off a little about me and the project. I'm an engineering student who is awful with computers, but in the past two months my brother and I spent the majority of our spare time learning coding, spriting and how to navigate all the features in RPG maker and essentials. So why ask for help if we can do it all ourselves right? Its a matter of efficiency, I believe that with one or two more people we could make something really special in a relatively fast amount of time regardless of everyone's other obligations. Now without further ado here is what we have to offer. Plot Empire takes place in the the Mediterranean themed Telius region which has recently overthrown their tyrannical king after a long and bloody civil war. The council that now governs the region must deal with the growing number of legendary Pokemon being spotted and a faction of the King's loyalist known as Team Mythic that threaten the fragile peace that many died for. You and your friend Alanah return to Telius to become trainers after being sent away when the war began. When you arrived in the sapphire district, one of the 7 districts in the city capital. you quickly realize that something is very very wrong. Current progress So the game is technically up to the completion of the first gym. But we have an overhaul of the intro in mind and somethings haven't been implemented (like field effects for the first gym leader) Features currently implimented Guilds that function like the clubs in Z/O, 1 in current build and 7 planned A personal estate the player can upgrade and customize Items that replace HM's Auto save Custom shiny Pokemon sprites and increased shiny rate Decisions that alter entire arcs of game play A few custom items, attacks and abilities Custom mega Pokemon Multiple protagonist to choose from Soundtrack featuring 7 different musicians (Hopefully more to come) 18 starters, one for every type 18 gyms and the Reborn level cap Pokemon that follow (can be turned off with the press of a key) turbo speed Features to be added All new field effects (Finally learned how to create them but have had exams all week so haven't sat down and worked on them) Reputation system that creates additional side quest and relationships Custom tiles Want to help? Awesome! So anything helps, whether your talent is spriting, mapping, coding or just having ideas for the game you are more then welcome to join the team. If you read this far I imagine that you'd be willing to help for free. However I understand that time is the most valuable resource people have and would be fine paying commission for someones talent. If you have questions feel free to ask! Updares I'll be adding things here until we make an actual game topic in the fan game Expose Edit: For all those that messaged me and commented thanks! I was expecting one or two people tops so I/m pretty blown away by the turnout.
  20. Greetings. Question is relatively straight forward. How would you go about distributing event Pokemon to specific areas in a game. I determine event Pokemon based on these 3 things Unique early game Pokemon that people wouldn't use under normal circumstances (An example would be the Kricketune in Periodot) Strong Pokemon that bridge the difficulty and make the game feel a bit easier (An example would be the early Ralts from a few episodes ago) Pokemon that fit into a side quest or small event that would happen in that area (Examples would be most wasteland event Pokemon) So far that's how I've been placing event Pokemon into my game. If anyone has a different idea for when or why a Pokémon should be placed in an area feel free to let me know.
  21. @Star Arcana I really like this idea. Although most people want to have the ability to catch all Pokemon in one run it will add reputability and emphasize that choices matter.
  22. @Alistair Thanks for the suggestions. A research Guild is a great idea, with a Theives Guild I'll have to find a way to make it more than just being a Robin Hood since Reborn already did that. But morally gray groups overall are certainly wanted.
  23. Hey everyone. One of the features that we are going to implement is guilds which originally came from the clubs in Zeta/Omnicron. They will act as a way for the player to obtain items and special Pokémon in side quest. Here are the ones I've come up with so far, any additional ones you guys can think of would be appreciated. Exploers Guild: Explores uncharted areas in search of rare items and Pokémon Monks Guild: Located on a mountain range they strive for enlightenment Magic Guild: Dealing in the dark arts of the Pokémon Wolrd their goal is to create a new type Research Guild: A branch of the region's tech giant N.G Power who's research is top secret Rangers Guild: Saves Pokemon and preserves the environment Police Guild: Located in the capital they are the special forces of the police force handling the most serious cases
  24. Updated the list in my original post with it. Notable changes are adding Starly who was widely suggested. (Honestly just thought he'd be insane but realized the first few gyms make his early game rough), Sneasel and Misdreavous. Ghastly will be an obtainable relatively early so don't worry about not being able to get your hands on one.
  25. @Brakk Honedege was my intial pick but it's typing S dance make it way to good for the early game. Thoughts on Drifloon and Misdreavous, I'll probably end up making it litwick since it has decent coverage to counteract the late evolution.
