Reborn QoL Update- 19.5.0

Hello, gentle denizens of the much-ravaged internet. The age is long and dark, and little end is in sight. Nothing I have to say can change that for you. But I do have a small update to a video game which can maybe help keep the ennui at bay. Will you accept that?

Today's update is a long time coming, having been forged by our hard at work new team under the capable management of enu, plus some not insignificant help from generous benefactors and patricians of talent within the community. Much love to you all. The focus of this update is primarily on quality of life improvements; it is not a content update.

 

Legacy 19.0 downloads are available on the download page for those seeking to play with older mods. But if modding is your thing, please consider checking out enu's new suite of mod tools, available here:

And if you are experienced with modding or game dev and the idea of helping out sounds good to you, please consider checking out the community cooperation initiative and maybe applying!

 

Anyway, have some changelog. It is not complete, because no list of words can ever equate to the monumental amounts of work the team has put in. But it does have some neat Tidbits.

• Rainbow Scent key item to adjust wild encounters rates
• Updated overworld abilities mechanics to Gen 8 (battle mechanics are still Gen 7)
• Added some bits of new dialogue here and there
• Added sounds and animation to jumps
• Added animation to rock climbs
• Added sounds to fishing
• Added Nightclub Jukebox
• Added ambient sounds on dive spots
• Added unique bumping sounds for different things
• Added cries to most overworld pokemon who didn’t have them
• There might be one (1) new quest hidden somewhere in Reborn City
• Wild pokemon on Victory Road now cap at level 99 for Repels to work
• Added smart travel when you hold Z
• Added hold shift to run, toggle run is now Z

 

Battle

• Relevant field and pulse notes are accessible during battle
• Adapted Battle Inspect feature from Rejuvenation (with adjusted controls)
• If turbo is activated during battle then it is only active for battles
• Added doubles bosses to Battle Pavillion
• Moves with secondary type (from field) now have an icon to show so
• Pickup ability now has its in-battle effect
• Adjusted Florinia’s Gym team to be legal

 

Miscellaneous

• Added many new passwords
• Favorite Items bag pocket
• Turbo has sound effects, icons and configurable speed
• Evolution/hatching animation is skippable
• Added Battle Palace to Nightclub
• The Waterium-Z quest no longer results in a relationship point loss with Adrienn.
• Updated shinies of lake guardians, Ralts line, Kabuto line and Aerodactyl
• Keldeo Resolute Form is now obtainable
• Hundreds if not thousands of smaller bug fixes and improvements
• Added Mirror Lure
• Added independent sorting for each bag pocket
• Added Move Tutor app to Pokégear
• Added PC Sorting using different criteria
• Added Day-Care egg move sharing feature from Gen 8
• Added more event-only moves to be available by re-learning
• Added EV wings to Department Store
• Added Z-Move descriptions to mon summary

 

Randomizer

• Completely overhauled
• Old Randomizer save files have option to re-randomize
• All Randomizer save files (past or present) have online features disabled
• Randomization is now deterministic for easier debugging
• Lot more flexible with randomization options (details in Readme.txt)

 

Modding

• Added patch directory support for modding purposes
• PBS files have been removed in favor of ruby files
• Most of the engine is using ruby symbols as identifiers instead of integer IDs
• Online features can now be used for mods after some adjustments
• Added Gen8 constant to easily activate newer battle mechanics in relevant mods
• Added Modding Tools

 

And finally, some parting notes on updating, including a list of places that you probably don't want to update.
And by "you probably don't want to update" I mean "we definitely don't want you to update there" and "if you do that and break your game and then complain to us, we will throw metaphorical tomatoes at you".

Updating

The updater in use in e19 previously is being replaced with an in-game updater. But, you'll need to download this one manually to get that.

The new version is using a different save file format. Your save files will automatically be updated to the new format but you can still find the original files in a backup directory.

 

Do NOT update if you were using a mod such as AllGen / Reatomized / Yang. Mods created for 19.0 are not compatible with 19.5.0 and save files with mons from those mods will not work correctly. Separate your save files FIRST.

 

Also avoid updating in these locations / during these quests:

 

• Battle Pavillion
• Battle Factory
• Water Treatment Center
• Agate City
• Glass Workstation
• Neoteric Isle
• Darkrai quest
• Second part of Zygarde quest

 

After updating, go to a different map immediately since the map from your save file may not work correctly. There will likely be no background music until you visit a new map.

Please also note that the item PC has been retired! If you have items in the PC, please migrate them before updating.

Thanks a lot for this update, the egg move share feature is greatly appreciated! Would've loved extra boxes in the PC personally, but I also understand that 50 is already an A LOT of scrolling and most players will never use all those boxes anyway XD

Hi, is there any way to disable the blooping accessibility feature? I understand it's very good for blind people, and I'm genuinely happy they have it, but I'm autistic and playing with the sound on is now causing me to have shutdowns over the very unsettling noises coming from the game. I love the music and the Pokemon cries and environmental noises, but the horrible blooping is a real problem for me >_<

I found out what was causing the specific noise, it's running into PEOPLE that makes the really awful one, I can just avoid doing that, I guess, if there's not another way.

Hi, yes! If you go into the game files /Audio/SE/Bump-npc is the offending file and you could replace it with a different one (such as the normal bump) or perhaps remove it altogther!

Not sure if this is a known issue, but after you've completed the post-game, the Torchic event can't be completed due to the family picture you have to get from a shelf in Belrose Manse is gone. Is it possible for this to get fixed?

Uh, the puzzleskip password also skips all the dialogue around the event. The dialogue is pretty important, especially in the postgame, which is how we learn more about these characters. A lot of flavorful dialogue is triggered at puzzle completion. I don't suppose there's any chance the puzzles could be skipped, but not the dialogue? I have a horrible sinking suspicion that it skips the dialogue because not doing so is horrifically complex.

Excited to play with the new updates. I would recommend adding the info about the PC item storage removal to the main download page, because I had no idea. Wondering even if there would be a way to have those items just be automatically added to the player's bag to avoid the issue altogether.

Very excited with the update ! 

I am just wondering, because I'm currently in the middle of a randomized run which has frustrated me to no end because the Magnetic Lure was checking the base pokémon species instead of the randomized one, and eggs were also based on the based pokémon species for the mom.

I had to go in the code to fix it myself (thank god I know the bases of Ruby from my job) and thus will wait to finish my run to update, but by any chance, can someone tell me if this was fixed in the "complete overhaul" of the randomizer ?
