Stephan and Adero

Adero nodded as the ferret glared, mentally prepared for whatever oddities might come to him.

To call the feeling that washed over him as the pulse of magic hit him unpleasant would be an vast understatement. He felt the breath of the beast that plagued his visions breathing down his neck, his skin crawled as irrational fear and panic overtook him once again. It loomed over him, dogged breaths as it moved its massive frame. He fell to one knee, his breathing turned heavy as he dared not look above him. Spots of a wet, uncomfortably hot substance trickled down onto the back of his neck. It burned like hot acid, as if the skin on his body had rejected whatever liquid fell on his back.

'Saliva, it's saliva?' Adero's inner questionings were answered as he finally gained the courage to look up the thing overshadowing him. It wasn't drooling, it was melting the hot black ooze that was falling onto him was the beast itself dissolving bones and all onto him. He couldn't move, every part of his brain screamed at him to move and yet his body was paralyzed, unable to move an inch. The ooze poured onto him now like a river, seeping into his skin and pooling into his body. As he bonded with the monster, he seemed to grasp images that were not his own, memories that were not his own. Once again his mind drifted back to the cold white forest.

In the distance he saw a glow, eldritch and black like the beasts he had seen. The crunching of snow beneath his feet set the pace as he crossed the gap between him and the floating glow. It was a small orb, swirling inside was some sort of energy. Adero unconsciously reached out. Out burst the black ooze from it, again reaching for him to overwhelm him. But this time he felt no panic, no, he felt calm. He let the shadows envelop the world around him, the shadows clashing brilliantly against virgin white snow. Unflinchingly he continued forward, reaching for the power just within his reach.

He rose his head from where he knelt. It was strange, he could have sworn he had been standing just a second ago. He looked around him, no more were there snow laden forests, but rather the concrete and brick of the alleyway he had last been in.

'Visions.' He surmised. Still not quite sure of it all. He rose to his feet, the awakening or whatever the mediator had just done had triggered some type of fever vision or hallucination. Mentally drained it takes him a moment to gather himself.

"Woaah." Adero mumbles, visibly shook but attempting to brush it off. "Whatever that was was one hell of a trip. What in the hell was that?"

Dexter and Seth

The airborne serpent made a strange noise, almost like metal striking cleanly on metal, as a white beam lanced out from its maw. The creature dove toward Seth - and was struck with a paralytic current, halting its assault and allowing the incoming storm of organic blades to continue mostly unabated, shredding the thing and dissolving it into mist. The remaining beast, however, allowed gravity to assist it, tucking its wings in and diving at high speed to avoid the attacks snapping after it like wolves. It pulled up right before it hit the ground, wings flattening out as it rushed directly at Seth at a dangerous velocity.

Stefan and Adero

"I've unlocked your inner potential," the ferret referred to as Arch said.

"Sorry if that hurt. It's different for everyone. Guess you guys were unlucky; I remember this one girl, she. . . Actually, forget that. Basically you can use magic now. This is another thing that's different for everyone, at least doing it right, but a good way to start is to sort of picture yourself as a mage, and then concentrate really hard on that picture." Ryuu's expression and tone were apologetic.

Seth and Dexter

Again, the vines were there with their metallic hue and stiletto spikes, the shield nigh instantly re-positioning itself to face the last remaining threat as the 'children' took up their places all around it's perimeter, snapping and screeching at the mere thought of the meal that had so dastardly escaped them. To an outside observer, the shape of the combined defenses, barrier and writhing extensions, would've likely resembled the profile of a Beholder.

And at the snap of the master's fingers, they behaved just as one as well. The lashing extensions of himself once again opened maws wide as they sized up the rival serpent, tiny orbs of green forming in each of the mouths. Before one could even blink an eye, the orbs erupted into brilliant streaks of green, laser-like beams projecting from the Black Vectors as they continued their frenzied dance, setting the entire area before the shield alit with a crisscrossing storm of chaotic, burning energy. But not so chaotic as it seemed... If one paid enough attention, they'd take note of the peculiar patterns being made, the beams arcing in such a way that it almost seemed they were calculating the evasive actions most likely to be taken by the beast, each of the quite literally beaming maws appearing to compensate their aim on the fly as the threat drew closer... utterly determined to close off escape this time.

With even more of their brethren lying in wait behind the barrier at master's side...

Seth and Astros

'Well, that worked out alright' thought Dexter as he reloaded the gun.

Seth was the star of the show and probably could have handled everything by himself, but the blonde guy still felt accomplished after successfully being helpful, and this gave him more confidence.

This Beast was attacking Seth almost the same way as the other creature did before - and it didn't end well for it, of course. Therefore, Dexter decided to repeat what he did before, and shot a couple of those glowing bullets at the flying creature. Everything seemed to be going as he planned, he was getting better!

After that, Dexter moved towards Astros (or, at least, the alleyway where he was supposed to be), in order to be ready to help him if necessary. If the mediator could keep some kind of contact with the blonde guy, he would certainly feel his confidence rising. Finally.

Stefan and Adero

Indifferent as his body felt, he was unequivocally certain that he had been bestowed upon power -- magical power -- and now he was to assay it, to witness it for himself.

Unfolding his hood, his hand extended into his jacket’s right pocket as he withdrew his weapon. The gun – the Gymnopedie -- crafted of his own signature, was an intricate piece, as it glimmered in the night as traces of the vague, flickering lights of the alley adorned the black, metal surface with crescent slits of a shining silver. The edge of the weapon’s grip was inlaid with his family crest, the Courteau ruby, as the sanguine red surface of the jewel glistened nebulously under the little light surrounding him.

His gloved fingers swathed themselves around it for the umpteenth time. It was in that only when the gun fired that he was alive. It was the gun that elucidated his purpose. Alas, only bullets lade within the magazine, waiting to be fired.

Yet was it possible to perform the magic through his weapon?

Lost in thought, he withdrew himself into his cage of thoughts, entering a state of unperturbed, undistracted tranquillity as he decided to adhere to Ryuu's suggestion.

To use your power, you must first recognize that you had it.

A mage, he fixated his mind on the very thought, putting all else aside. A being with power. A power that he desired and that would transcend him to one capable of reaching his goals. To avenge his sullied family name.

And so he indoctrinated the thoughts within him, reassuring himself at the precise beat of which a hammer’s strike was to a nail. He was powerful. He was strong.

Sigh.

He inhaled, merely once. To the narrow sky above the alleyway he took aim, recalling his father’s teachings as he steadied himself for the attempt, distancing himself slightly from Adero and the other mysterious figures.

Firm steps, his father’s voice echoed in his mind. Firm hands. Eyes a keenness shaming the sharpest blades. To vacillate, even slightly, would be to miss the shot.

Concentrate.

It wasn’t before long before the power resounded within him, a glow slowly emanating within the weapon’s steel casing, centred around the magazine, as it propagated from within, growing ever stronger, the light increasingly vibrant.

It was within seconds that the power in the gun overwhelmed him as his grip staggered, even with both hands firm on its surface, as his hands quivered in rebellion against the force of his weapon as the magic within emerged. Concentrated to a shot, the magic escaped from the muzzle as the recoil caused Stefan to jerk backward and lose his footing, as he barely managed to firm up his legs upon the ground.

The shot, a mix of purple and black elemental light, soared as if a firework in a night sky, the blistering, unseeable flash the impossible speed of a lightning bolt. There was no burst, however; no explosion, no feedback, no response within seconds after Stefan had committed to his first magical shot.

Stefan froze as his hand wielding the gun slumped downward, as if it had been stripped away of all of its remaining strength. He lingered within a mix of satisfaction and amazement as his hands, for a rare, perhaps disgraceful moment of time, wavered and shivered as it beheld his weapon.

How far did the shot fly?
