[Spoilers] Shiny Mystery Egg

I started my 2nd playthrough and lucked out by getting a Larvesta egg, and I've been trying to SR for a shiny since, except after 150 or so I've been thinking it's either impossible for the egg to be shiny, or that I need to trade the officer a shiny Growlithe egg, or that I've just been really unlucky to balance out my good luck. Does anyone know exactly which it is? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the shiny-ness of an egg is determined when you receive the egg, not when it hatches...So...Yeah...Unless you are SR before getting the egg and THEN hatching a diferent one every time, you are out of luck...

Oh of course I'm SRing before receiving the egg but as long as it still can be shiny coming from a trade I'll keep at it I guess.

You can see in the party menu if a egg is shiny or not. There's a star in the corner: http://oi62.tinypic.com/2wftydc.jpg

So you won't have to hatch the eggs to know.

Yeah I have been rummaging through my unhatched eggs. I found a shiny Chimchar lol.

You can't soft reset to change the data of the Mystery Egg. Everything is made once you get a Starter, including what it is, IVs, Ability, and (I'm pretty sure) Shininess.

When I hatched my mystery egg, I got different a nature, IVs, and ability by soft reseting right before getting the egg.

that would be a good indicator that you might be able to get a shiny one if you tried it enough. Good luck
