For backgrounds learning how to set down and use perspective guide lines are really helpful when you are figuring out where to lay down objects. For the composition it's best to draw them out in thumbnails before deciding where the panels should be, it lets the story flow much more nicely than it would when it's limited by panels set down before everything is planned out.
