  1. I'm just waiting till we get that BA Crobat. Also, Corey threw his stash of pokeballs into the desert when he let his pokemon go, so I'm interested to see whether they'll be good, like Ultra Balls.
  2. I applaude your maturity level. Some would throw out a "don't tell your bf that" joke, but you didn't. Unfortunately I did =P
  3. Dang this is still going on? If you people don't like rants, why are you ranting about rants on a rant thread? For that matter, why am I ranting about ranting on a rant thread? This is confusing, im getting an ice cream.
  4. Pot-kettle Xrs. Tsundere (is that the proper prefix?). I doubt you waited a week to beat her. We don't even know how cruel you could have been. Maybe you set her gym on fire. That is her home. Shame on you for setting fire to her home! Arsonist.
  5. Oh and if it helps, you can try to sneaky FEAR method (Focus sash, endeavor, quick attack, ratticate). Destiny Bond with Prankster is a version of this.
  6. So in other words, we will need to rely on strategy even more, since RNGJesus is getting nerfed? Regardless, I look forward to seeing this game at full capacity (and graphical beauty) and am willing to wait the 2.5 years or whatever it takes. PS - Just realized, this is going to end up resembling a Home Alone movie, where we have this extensive plan to defeat our adversaries. This will be something to look forward to.
  7. There are also quite a few flying types. Granted they're horrible for the first gym (Thankgiving Pidgey, anyone?), but they can find use later on. I know pidgey, swoobat, noibat, pidove, and spearow are available early on.
  8. The puzzles aren't that bad. You can find the solutions in the download package, if you know where to look. If your technologically challenged (via inability to find the answer yourself or if it's not actually in there), you can try The Google and The YouTube to find The Truth (or at least the answer to what ails you).
  9. Needs more cowbell In all seriousness, I'd be intrigued to see what Ame's version of Battle Frontier is. Given how many more fields there are (and there are more to come), there are plenty of ways she could capitalize on it and make it the ultimate difficulty. As long as it's not as bad as Battle Palace in Emerald version, I'll be happy.
  10. If you don't want/have a golem, I found sandslash a tremendous asset. It has very high speed and enough attack power to boost it's STAB ground moves. Plus the shiny looks like Sonic =D Other than that, there is a sidequest in Opal/Peridot ward where you help a hiker find a room to rent. He gives you an onix, which might be able to evolve into Steelix, provided you can get your hands on a metal coat. That will eliminate their poison superiority and it still is a ground type that can use STAB ground moves.
  11. So much this. After I got caught off guard well before any of these lv 75 evil pokemon, I was smashed by Solaris. At that time, the game showed me it could be cruel. So I made sure I always packed status inflictors in my team, my main one being Emolga with Static ability, and Nuzzle + Light Screen attacks. Might I add that the glitch world will throw another Arceus your way (in a manner of speaking). But you can at least leave and swap pokes out. So let this be a lesson to you - have plenty of good status inflictors, or a damn good tank like Blissey (which is as OP as Blaziken imo).
  12. Hariyama for me. Assuming I can get something else to set up for him, all he needs is a belly drum and all will bow to him. His bulk allows him to survive some serious blows and still come back and kick butt. In my new file, Kricketune is the hardest hitter on my team, but the size of problems (weaknesses, things resistant to him, missing), makes him likely to get replaced in the future. ATM, however, he is doing really well.

    Blissey

What I heard before was you need to breed it in from a Roslia. Not sure if seismic toss is possible without move tutor.
  14. Seems neat. Is this styled in a hunger games way? I think it would be interesting to see a game based on nuzlocke rules. Anyways, looking forward to hearing more about it!
  15. What are the nature and ev/iv of your emolga? I'm intrigued because when I ran it, it would die really quick but it was a fun status inflictor that saved me against some hard opponents with it's light screen and nuzzle.
  16. This is the first time I've seen this, and I'm intrigued to see how it goes. Good luck and keep posting your progress!
  17. I found that the Sneasel in Ameritine mountain was the perfect thing I needed to beat Seel. Unfortunately I saved without verifying it had grip claw to evolve into weavile. So I ended up just ev training it with good rod at celestinine cascade. Luckily snesel had superior speed and higher end attack (plus I got icicle crash as the egg move) so it was fairly simple to walk in an ohko gliscor, archeops, and mega altaria. I'm giving this another playthrough so I can catch all the story elements I missed and/or didn't understand at the time, as well as making some good pokes this time. It's hell to go into charlotte and watch your team get swept by crack-fed fire types. Blake wasn't any easier either, as my light screen emolga would get swept buy any ice attack before it got it's turn. Overall I'm really loving this game and looking forward to the next installment.
  18. @ Hypa - A tampon in this situation is an object that is completely pointless and the only point is to make that NPC send you elsewhere to piss you off. @ AuthorReborn - Point taken on the monoruns because you only have a few to rely on. However, if you're hitting the level cap on traded pokemon, you're over relying on them. That means the rest of your team is slacking and you chose poorly. In regards to your 2nd point, I didn't want to put an ugly spoiler over my point. Anyone who reached that points knows what I mean, and anyone who hasn't won't be spoiled. Yes, I'm aware of that I'll get the badge later. If you read my previous points, you'll see I mentioned I was up to Luna at the time I started this. Currently sitting at Blake. @ Don42 - The point of the level cap is for you to raise multiple pokemon. Yes, you could rely on one pokemon, but as Vinny said above, the level cap is meant to restrict you from doing that. So you suck for abusing your poor pokemon
  19. Done. I will continue to make new posts so people can look through the conversation. Or they can just read the first post. Continuing where I left off. 8) "Reborn has Tall Poppy syndrome and gardening sheers are quickly used." GOOD! What kind of game would it be if I could max out early in the game? Rushing through with an overpowered Gyrados, Magmar, or Alakazam would ruin the challenge. Timber explained this point perfectly, and I fully agree. No one pokemon should be able to carry you through the game. This game is about a team of 6 balanced pokemon that can take on different challenges. All RPGs have this issue, and Ame fixes it here by keeping the game balanced and removing or relocating the overpowered ones until the time they're needed and/or deemed fair to use. Plus, it also allows for flexibility on Ame's part during each new episode. 9) "This guy is Fern. Fern is not a nice person." Fern might as well be from Team Meteor tbh. Is he a dick? Yes. Is Solaris a dick? Yes. Are every team leader in the offical games dicks? Yes. I will give extra credit to Fern's dickishness though. When you're in that cage and he's the only way you get out, he's ruthless. However, he does keep his agreement, unlike what I could expect from Solaris or any of the other team leaders in the official games. Sometimes you just gotta see the positives in those turd people. 10) "In the end, it boils down to YOU!" Yes and no. In general, yes, you are the only thing that will give yourself a chance of victory. However, credit must also be given to RNGJesus for those lucky saves that we have all been given. Even Timber agrees. Bad AI aside, when you get those needed criticals, secondary effects, or an opponent's attack misses, you can thank RNGJesus. This game is hard, and in the end it will come down to whether you have a clear victory path. Anyone with experience in speedruns understands this principle. YOu may be significantly underpowered, but the game gives you every opportunity you need to have a team capable of overcoming its challenges. Only those that can appreciate each pokemon's uniqueness will be able to beat this game. It is not merely a matter of finding the Haxorus or Mewtwo that is capable of annihilating everything. 11) "If all else fails..." You damn well right you're on your own. This game is not for casuals, as I stated previously, and as other posters suggested. There are still great pokemon out there that have significant weaknesses but can be just the thing for what you need. Fury Cutter Kricketune seems to be popular. For me, I like Belly Drum Hariyama. Assuming RNGJesus lets my Emolga/Gumpig/Camrupt disable the opponent with sleep, confuse, or paralyze, belly drum hariyama will come in and clean house. In fact, I managed to clear 3 of the fight gym's pokemon with that before therapist (heh) hitmonlee took it out. And when Arceus tried to kick my butt, a helping dose of paralysis and a belly drum close combat did wonders to clear it away. One more post to go. I'll summarize what I think about the pokemon, characters and story.
  20. Well, I'm back to continue this post. Just want to thank you all for your comments. Keep them coming! 4) "You will live as a hobo" This is far out of date. First, I don't even think you can get magikarp anymore. Second, why the hell do you care? Seriously, when was the last time you went into a pokemart pre E4 for anything besides pokeballs and tampons for an NPC? The only time this hasn't been the case for me is during a speed run, where I'm buying up x-attacks and the like. Quite frankly, everything is the same price as regular games. Ame was even generous enough to give you a starting sum of cash. In addition, "after you beat the first gym" is the exact same as regular games. When have you ever been able to find ultra balls and nuggets in generous amount before the first gym? I usually don't have any serious funds until the fourth gym, and even then I really don't care because I don't meet tampon starved NPCs that frequently. TMs, Battle Items, and generally end game stuff IS STILL END GAME STUFF. Stop whining. Ame is right to say no, you're spoiled. 5) "If at first you don't succeed..." Right on point! Depending on your team and the effort you put into keeping pokemon ready for rotation, this game will alter between ungodly difficult (fighting gym for me, Arceus for most) and pathetically simple (psychic double battle against slow weakinglings? meet emolga's discharge and sandslash's earthquake). If you're expecting to go in and sweep everything, give it up. That level cap should have tipped you off that this was not a game for casuals. There's a reason one of the NPC opponents tells you to save frequently, and it's not because he's recruiting for Arceus. 6) "Gym leaders have no soul and receive sustenance from your hatred." Again, it will vary depending on your team and the effort you put in. The post above gives a perfect example. Even after getting their team leveled, it took some tries for the sister to win. That's the game. You need strategy and some significant praying to RNGJesus sometimes to beat these soulless abominations. No, you cannot just go in with type-trumping pokemon. Even Smok3iT had to use a fire type at a fighting gym. Meanwhile I used everything from a fighting type to a ground type to win. This is Pokemon Reborn, not the Tampax store. Grow a pair of nuts/ovaries, and figure it out. Gyms are bosses like they ought to be, not like the wusses that constitute your "challenge" in the regular games. 7) "Beating gym leader =/= badge for level cap" Again, if you're hitting the level cap, you suck. These fights are not that difficult. It's not even a surprise anymore where you don't get a level rise. However, storywise it is obnoxious when you don't get a badge. Quite frankly, the gym leaders are assholes when they don't. They know their obligations, and instead of fulfilling them, they dillydally and *surprise* you don't get it. Maybe it's better they're not gym leaders anymore. If they don't consider themselves worthy adversaries, they don't need to be around. Most to post later, stay tuned for post 3!
  21. With all due respect to Timber Dragon's marvelous post, there are some serious flaws in it. However, many things mentioned are so spot on. I'll take some time over the next few days to break it down as I see it from my experience. 1) "Pokemon Reborn isn't a cakewalk like the official games." This is very true. The closest I have come to this level of difficulty has been during speed runs. The way Ame places pokemon so that it would be difficult to find anything powerful enough to take advantage of type trumping is fantastic. In the normal games, I have done a non-speed run with just my starter and a HM user. Pokemon Reborn takes that concept, chews it up, spits it out, and lights it on fire. You will need to keep a well-trained team of 6 pokemon or you will suffer. 2)"Pokemon Reborn hates you. It will kick you while you're down, it will make you its bitch, and you will love it." True, but not for the reasons you think (Well, unless you're into that). At any given time, your team will need adjustment or you will need to surgically repair your keester after the gym leader finishes ramming their fist up it. Even when your team is polished, and you think you have type advantage, it will still abuse you with sweepers. Kiki, the fighting gym leader, is a fantastic example of this. Even if you brought flying and psychic, her team is so well honed that they will tear them apart before you can do any significant damage. Of course, you could spends hours and hours on end grinding for the perfectly bred pokemon, and have a better chance of making the gym leader your bitch, but if you enjoy life, that's not what you're going to do. What you're going to do is actually have to use *gasp* strategy (and significant praying to RNGJesus). I ended up beating that gym after using the disable and pumble strategy, which ended up working after about 50 tries. The only thing that kept me going was that story, and that is why I love Pokemon Reborn. 3) "Reborn sees your level grinding, and raises you a LEVEL CAP" If you're maxing out your level cap in the early game (currently I'm as far as Luna), you suck. Even Pokemon Reborn does not require that. What it does do, however, is make sure you have a team of 6 balanced members, able to take on different challenges. It also encourages you to swap members out, since there is plenty of "easy" training to get those new members up to scratch. In general, you can be about 5 levels under your cap and still win without much hassle. If you're using common candies, it's time to reconsider your team and why you need to keep them so damn high leveled. 4) "You will live as a hobo" This is far out of date. First, I don't even think you can get magikarp anymore. Second, why the hell do you care? Seriously, when was the last time you went into a pokemart pre E4 for anything besides pokeballs and tampons for an NPC?
