  1. Don't underestimate Pelipper(wait until gen 7 changes get implemented, he's going to be really awesome then) either. I wrote him off as early bird fodder but he was insanely useful in my flying monorun. The ability to change fields at will(if just temporarily and even that got a buff due to the field extender) via mist is one that should not be overlooked. He's excellent support.

  2. Hmm I don't like steel all that much TBH due to how slow most of them are and how you're really limited early on. You have klink line and piplup basically :/

I second poison though, poison is flat out awesome in Reborn. To add on Rum said above, poison is also notable for being able to take good advantage of Reborn's field system as they interact with a good variety of fields, even transforming several of them to their advantage. Plus you have a slew of options whole game through and not just later on like some of the other types. Also thematically it fits the tone of the game well.

I did flying before and it was a blast. It's actually not all THAT hard save for a couple of fights. I made a thread with it too detailing my team along the way  and how useful they were.

  3. Start a new file, and honestly I feel it's better this way because you get to see some of the little changes that were made and play through with teams and such you didn't use before. In fact I always started over when a new episode released for this reason. Personally I still think ep 14 was the hardest(well so far, but I feel Shelly is  harder in ep 16) due to certain bugs, Shade being somewhat tougher and Charlotte being at her toughest there but that could be due to it also being my first time with Reborn and thus not used to things. But yeah dude you should definitely give this game another go, IMO it's still among the top tier pokemon fangames and I always come back to it eventually even with main games being a blast. They both scratch different itches for me, and Reborn's field system is still genius. I think it's the one aspect of the game that really sets it apart gameplay wise, even from the official games.

  4. Alright another question:I notice that the download came with some FPS download alongside it. I take it this is a mod or something that gives us the ability to change the FPS in options so ensure smoother gameplay? This would be extracted to the EP16 folder itself, right?

Oh... if you upgraded from E15 then you get those when you exit Ciel's room - along with other stuff. If you started a new playthrough with E16 then I don't know. If they're not available right away then you'll likely get them by progressing the story.

Hmm okay. I'm starting to think that I should probably talk to the Devon corp dudes in obsidia ward. Maybe they give it to you? Seems like I should've gotten them by now though(just beat Cain before BB wasteland).

I think it was aways possible to find a far higher lvl pokemon, but the chances were realy slim..

Actually yeah you're right, I do remember finding a level 64 Staraptor in the mountains pre-charlotte.  Has the chances increased slightly or am I just luckier this playthrough?

    Actually after fighting Shade

    Spoiler

I feel like Shade needs some revamp to his team or something, as he seems far easier than he was pre-15.  I think Doublade should be replaced with something else, maybe Mismagius?Dazzling gleam would help with dark types.

  7. So playing with episode 16 from Beryl ward onward, and I've noticed that there's been some enemy buffs compared to episode 15. This is simply what I have observed so don't take this as 100% fact, though if any of the actual devs want to fill in on the changes feel free to do so.

-Seems like the levels for regular NPC trainers got slightly higher?

-Opal rematches available much earlier on, this was stated on the site itself so no surprises here

    Corey -

    Spoiler

Actually he about the same. I don't think he changed  much from ep 15.

    Shelly-

    Spoiler

Definite buff. Her AI is now smart enough to set up rain dance immediately preventing the player from setting her field ablaze right away at least. The rain seemed to last a while too so I think she's got a damp rock on her Illumise as well. Masquerain works this strat well too by utilizing bubblebeam in the rain and half her team has a grass attack of some sort.

    Fern

    Spoiler

He switched out his Roserade when it was in yellow.  Aside from this he seemed unchanged(unless he didn't always lead with ferroseed), though this is probably his hardest fight, at leastin past episodes.

    -optional boss-

    Spoiler

Savage Beartic didn't have rest before, did he? That really screwed me over and I had to melt the ice(several times) and poison the water to end up beating him, and he seemed tougher than I recalled.

Seems like some areas have rarer pokemon that are a good deal higher leveled than the usual? I found

    Spoiler

a Beartic in Ametrine that was level 37 and dunsparce in opal underground that was level 34. Also a level 44 unown in the area where you meet Solaris.

Also, while we're on the subject on buffs/nerfs, any you want to see next episode?

  8. Gen 5 was the pinnacle of the series for me. Note that I said was, because gen 7 is off to a very, VERY good start. However, we only have 1 game in it so it's still too early to judge the entire generation overall, and gen 5 does have an edge pokemon wise, so it's still as Fern would say, "top dog."

Gen 4 winning makes me happy as it's my second/third favorite, but I can't help but  feel like Hoennbabies are the majority of voters for this poll.

  9. Let's disagree there actually. I'll give you dark but ghost I thought was just alright. I like Shattered Psyche more.

One thing about these Z moves is that the anime is going to make them look incredible. Gigavolt Havoc and Inferno Overdrive already looked super cool when they were shown. Though I can see a lot of recycled frames being used later on lol.

After beating the main story, gotta say, SM is probably my favorite pokemon game. Ending was lovely, I was getting a bit teary eyed. My god has GF evolved since gen 1.

    Loving this game so much.

  10. I fully agree on the Acid Spray and Screech part.

I love Glare. It's a paralyzing move that works on grass and ground types unlike the counterparts Stun Spore or Thunder Wave. The only thing you can't paralyze with it are pesky electric types. I don't use an Arbok on my reborn run, but I have one in Rejuvenation and it's the best debuffer I've ever had. Intimidate and a bit of bulk helps you get the Glare in, crippling their speed which allows you to get either a Screech or an Acid Spray off for certain. The parahax might even let you debuff them more or get a free swap into whatever you use to do the mercy killing.

Finally someone else who appreciates arbok. I sued him in my poison/electric run and he was useful all the way up till Terra. Dude is massively underrated IMO in that what he lacks in power makes up for his ability in debuffing opponents.

  11. Mist. It shuts down Shade pretty hard as it weakens his hard hitting shadow balls and stops his pokemon from getting field bonuses off their attacks. Bonus points if you chose Delphox as mystical fire gets buffed off it. In fact, mist is a huge reason why I kept Pelipper far longer than i would have otherwise on my flying monorun.

Any field-changing move is a godsend in Reborn.

  12. Welp, Liquid Voice has been tested. It's exactly as everyone thought given the description, no boost. So you have no reason to use Liquid Hyper Voice ever, in singles you're gonna go with Scald and in Doubles Sparkling Aria. Unless there's a Boomburst tutor next game, you're literally better off using Torrent.

The worst part is it doesn't end with Primarina; this generation seems to be full of moves, abilities, and Pokemon that Gamefreak tried too hard to not make overpowered, and ended up making them useless.

I feel some more time should be given first before jumping to conclusions about the new mons. Shame about liquid voice but eh whatever. Remember though that this is a first game of a generation and that with the lack of tutors some movesets/builds are going to feel like they're missing something. Next game we'll surely see more buffs
