"You don’t get to choose when or who you meet. However, you do get to choose who you hold on to." - from The Girl who leapt through Time
"Time waits for no one." - the tagline from the same movie
The Girl who leapt through Time was a good coming-of-age movie which incorportated Time Travel as an element in its story.
Its story focuses on Makoto Konno, who suddenly finds a device which allows her to travel back in time. Initially, she uses the device for mundane things like enjoying more karaoke, getting perfect scores in tests, and avoiding accidents to her, but she later on uses it to avoid a confession from one of her close friends Chiaki. She later realizes that her time traveling can affect others negatively, while she also realizes that her 'time leaps' are limited and she tries to fix everything she has broken by going back several times. As it turns out, two of her friends ride on her faulty bike, but because of having used her last leap, they get hit by a train; luckily, Chiaki manages to save everything because he actually is the person who brought the time travel device and he is from the future actually. Unfortunately, he has to leave because someone from the past knows about this secret; Makoto realizes that she actually likes him and confesses, and they both promise to see each other in the future, with Makoto looking forward to the future.
I like the beautiful graphics of this movie as it deeply enhanced the story; its message regarding time travel was quite vital as it told me that even if you could time travel and change things, you can't change the nature of fate. This means that if you try to escape being hit by a fire, this will be instead passed on to another person; thus, you sacrifice the welfare of others when you try to make your life better by time travelling. I also liked how Makoto changed over the story from an immature person to someone who has learned from experience and decides to pursue a path for herself.
