  1. I'm going to make this abundantly clear again: There are no features guaranteed or promised in regards to the battle system. While it will be there and there may be extra features added in, don't expect it to be much more than connect to someone and battle them. Feedback is always appreciated but I strongly suggest for ideas to be held until there is actually a reasonable chance that they can be done.
  2. So time to reveal the big secret. When E16 development started, we had a stretch goal. That was to get online battling and trading working. Turns out, that wasn't as much of a stretch as we thought. Thanks Alexandre's online functionality systems which you may recognize from games such as Pokémon Zeta/Omnicron or Insurgence, we've been able to implement online battling and trading in Reborn, While there is no guarantee this will ship with E16, it is a feature I was very excited about and wanted to share with you guys. We will probably be coming up with solutions to balance online gameplay by controlling which pokémon can be brought into battle or kept in the party and stuff like setting up our server, so there are definitely kinks that still need to be worked out. Unfortunately, while I would love to give you details and a ton of images or footage, there isn't a lot to show yet. I can give you guys this image of me fighting myself with two test trainers: or this image of me logging in: And this image of me trading with myself with these same test trainers [ (Background is weird because it's just a test build) But maybe soon we'll be able to do more. Including a showdown, I feel, that's been a long time coming.
  3. So I read almost nothing in this thread but the first post and this, and this is what I'd like to address. I came into reborn not having played pokémon since emerald. tl;dr literally one of the first things I did in this game was to get something with prankster + thunder wave and another something with destiny bond, which trivialized all the battles you mentioned above. To figure out I had to do that didn't take me more than five minutes and the oracle google.
  4. Fucks given still all zero, commander. All systems nominal.
  5. What can I say? The development team's in a generous mood. You know, it's easy to forget Reborn's roots. It's easy to look at the community today and forget where it came from - the reborn league. Tournaments like this. Lately, these have been few and far between. Hilda, Jericho and the rest of the RCBA committee want to change that. And I fully support it. And so, in an effort to promote more events like this, the development team and the RCBA committee have joined together to offer special unique prizes to the winners of Reborn's competitive battling association! To the winner of the Ruby division, we award this fiery companion: To the champion of Sapphire's division, this creature of the depths arises to become your new champion: If you can win the Emerald's crown, this mighty guardian will become your shield in battle: If you can win Amethyst's favor, you will be awarded this mighty blade: And to the one who conquers all - Whoever wins the right to call themselves Grand Champion, will be awarded a prize befitting your position: You don't play reborn? No problem. The division winners can opt between a prize of 2500 ruppees or their pokémon. The Grand Champion can opt between 8000 ruppees or their chosen pokémon, and the winner of the invitational, while not receiving any pokémon, will receive a prize of 2500 ruppees. Both Reborn's development team and the RCBA committee hope you find these prizes to your liking, and that they motivate you to participate in more similar events in the future. Good luck, trainers. EDIT: Hilda's synopsis:
  6. I'd like to point out Reborn's main characters aren't exactly know for caring about someone else's mental health. While a case could be made for fighting Kiki when it was clear that it would help deteriorate her condition was a choice for the greater good because you had to save the kids, your character literally had no other motivation to fight Shelly, a young child, right after she witnessed her best friend's father (who you can safely assume her to be at least familiar with) die in front of her gym. And then she saw his possibly very mangled corpse. Literally the only motivation the MC had then was getting the badge. Could've waited a week so she'd have the chance to recover but nope! ...So yeah, I wouldn't count on Amaria's mental health being a good enough of a reason for you not to fight her, you monsters.
  7. Same answer to the two different questions: I can host this on sundays. It's happening on the first sunday of every month so it's easier to remember and it stays consistent. If I don't employ these gimmicks, the one who'll forget about it is me. In fact, it's still very possible that I will.
  8. If I could, I'd give you one just for that. Or maybe I'll force the name to be that.
  9. You can participate in multiple if you want, but you can only win once.
  10. Goomy. Well, maybe not, but you can certainly get one in August 2nd, when the first of six tournaments giving away one of the six pseudo-legendary dragons will be taking place. Each of these tourneys will have it's own theme, and for each of them you'll be given a month to prepare. This one is the exception, however, since there isn't any preparation needed. All tourneys will happen at the first sunday of every month, at 16:00 (4 pm) EST. The first tourney will be Random battles! With a twist - The pokémon of the day will be Goondra! The winner gets a save file with Goomy as the starter pokémon. The losers get Goondra'd. There are no sign-ups. The maximum tolerance is 30 minutes, so the tourney will be starting either at 16:30 or whenever we hit more than 20 participants - Whichever happens first! Hope to see you all there!
  11. Sylveon. Surprisingly. It always has the same name, too
  12. I like the concept. Here's hoping more creative characters join up.
  13. The current save backup has no limits.
  14. Is too much of not having too much of anything bad for you?

  16. Interest check " Through it all, the city of Mithra stood proud. Even as the elves destroyed our capitals. Even as orcs, no matter the color of their blood, hammered on our gates. Even as trolls and ogres rampaged through our villages; Mithra stood proud. It's Knights undefeated. It's kingdom undaunted. The last light of hope for mankind against all odds. Even as our very civilization turned to dust in front of our eyes, as the fae and their draconic gods descended upon us, we continued. Our faith in the Mender unmoving. Our faith in our Knights unfaltering. And then they came. Clad in blinding light and wielding thunder as blades, the Knights of Mithra uncovered within themselves a power in mankind that up to that point had been exclusive to the fae: Magic. That was the turning point of the war. In our hands, we wielded supremacy. And in their eyes, shone only the light of despair. " ~ The Great War in prose, 5 MA, Alenak Morthwill. " The war was won. The humans fell to our blades and our magic, centuries in preparation. The fae united under the great elven empire and decided to put an end to the mortal races once and for all: Humans, dwarves, gnomes, all descendants of Thyrm would fall before the alliance. Only Mithra stood tall, an irritating excrescence on the face of the land. But that would soon be remediated... Or so we thought. They appeared in the night, the blasphemers. Yielding travesty given form and calling it magic, they sought not to harmonize in nature as we had - But to warp it. Their spells did not respect nature, but rather subjugated it. Mortals are volatile creatures, and thus their magic is volatile as a result. They came wielding it, their "holy" Knights, servants of a fallen God, their twisted mixture of magic and steel in hand, and cut us down. The treachery caused by the five betrayers was not forgotten, and never will be forgiven. For we will outlast mankind. And even as they forget, we still remember." ~ The Five Betrayers, 1500 ZO, Orthundil Aleeksar The Kingdom of Mithra The Elvish Empire Even now, three hundred years after a war, these kingdoms remain blind to the true threat to their planet; Because of this, the world needs new heroes. Take the role of any mortal or fae race you'd like - Human, Dwarf, Gnome, Troll, Ogre, Orc, even creatures of myth as fairies or goblins* - and play through a story that tells the legend of the heroes of the second Great War. As either a mortal or a freshly-reborn fae, your character will experience one of two different origin paths leading them to their eventual destiny. If you are a fae, learn to master the ancient spells of your kind, discovering secrets lost to even the timeless immortals. If you are mortal, master the school of your choosing and potentially reach the rank of an elite few, becoming a Royal Knight, or specialize in your school further to develop it's secrets. Don't like magic? Feel free to roll a swordsman, archer, berserker and rest assured that you won't fall behind in the power scale - Although Mithra is a kingdom ruled by mages, the elitist oft forget that true magic lies not in spells, but in the potential awakened within. Chronicles of Mithra will play much like a classic D&D campaign: Instead of a single goal or focus in storyline, there will be several different chapters with their own objectives, with an overarching plot eventually making itself known. As your characters grow in power and strength, you'll have the opportunity to interact and learn more about each race and their culture before making the ultimate decision on which side to assist when the next Great War begins, ultimately deciding the fate of the land itself. However, you must be careful, hero. Ancient evils long-forgotten threaten to awaken again, and to engulf the world in chaos anew. * The host retains the right to veto some racial choices Mechanics: Profile: Cultural information: Mortals: Fae Player-made stuff: Silver wyvern Culture, by King Murdoc:
  17. Because it is. Like I said, I'm making things up as I go, so I'm working on it when I see I'll get players for it. Oh also because I really hate double posting even though I know I can do it in my own threads here so I wait for someone to reply before saying I've added stuff.
  18. I mean that's... That's bad for you too
  19. Hi guys! Quick announcement here. Remember the save backup system? Well, don't think we haven't paid attention to your pleas of means to control it! in fact, I've nothing else to do in this thread than to let you know E16 will be shipping not with one, but with two different ways of controlling the backup system - Both should be very self-explanatory: The first option controls whether or not the system will work at all. Turn it off, and no more save backups will be created. The second option controls the maximum amount of backups in your folder at a time. The default number is 50, and it'll go as high as 100, and as low as 1. We've worked around the clock to guarantee these two implementations are 100% functional and will not conflict with the existing savefiles. The only complication here is the following: For the new-new save system to work, the backup counter needed to be reset to 0, so when you start e15 you'll notice the first backup made has 1 as it's counter, the second has 2, and so on, instead of the previous number. This will not affect your existing backups in any way, but you'll have to delete them manually. And as a side note, I personally suggest keeping at the very least ten backups at a time, since we've seen corruption go back to as many as 2~3 files in a row. That's it. Thanks for your time!
  20. I highlighted the misconception. A lot of games are in development for years. Games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, Dragon Age and so on are games that spent nearly a decade each in the drawing board, and they were simply kept quiet about until it was near release date. So to begin with, no, it is actually not. It takes a lot longer than that for a triple A title being worked on by dozens of people to be finished, so I figure a game with only two to four people working on it, all of which having other jobs (since the game is free and we need to eat) taking just two years is actually a fairly short amount of time. That said, it may even take fifty to complete; The two year thing is a popular estimate, but I'm pretty sure the development team has not anything in regards to that since, as I've said several times, we'd not like to commit to something we may not be able to follow up on.
