  1. *PLOT & WORLD* /all you need to know to make your character/ The plot of Pokemon in Space is set in a post-apocalyptic world where the whole universe (except for a single star shining bright in the distance) has vanished in an event dubbed the Great Cosmostrophe, but humanity has survived with a handful of Pokemon following the guidance of the Space Aether Foundation, which provided humans with safety from the dangers of the Anti-Space at the expense of ignorance. Space Aether has had the power to freely create independent pocket-universes known as Nexuses, each with their own ekosystems, but all inhabitable by both humans and Pokemon. Space Aether separated humans from Pokemon under the pretense of "preservation" and "repopulation". Eight Nexuses have been populated by humans to form the Nexus Grid, and 100,076,999 by Pokemon, forming the Micro Grid. Now is the year 654 of the Aetherian Calendar, counting days since the establishment of peace and the quelling of chaos that ensued following the Great Cosmostrophe. It is known that the Great Cosmostrophe itself happened more than 654 years ago, but how long ago is unknown as scriptures of that time are either lost to time or nonexistant. Peace rules the Nexuses, but Pokemon and humans still live separately. The bond they once shared has faded over hundreds of years, and humans have started looking at the Pokemon more like animals at the zoo than anything else, except in Space Aether, where they are used as help or tools to an end, that end being progress and survival of mankind. It is a truly sad time to be alive, but people barely notice they lack anything. To them, their lives are perfect as they are, lost in blissful ignorance. Except, of course, those whose hearts still yearn for adventure. These special people still feel the bond with Pokemon pulsating with their heartbeats and they cannot contain it. They are known as Space Aether Employee Cadets and are the explorers which brave the unexplored frontiers of dangerous Nexuses. You are one of those special people. -> NEXUSES <- /surrogates to Pokearth/ Nexuses are worlds within the frame of the now empty real world which are filled with limitless possibilities. On the outside, they appear as huge (some are even planet-sized) deep black marbles reflecting the starry night sky (even though there are no stars in this universe anymore), but on the inside, you never know what you're going to find. Even the main eight Nexuses still hide many secrets and are largely unexplored, as humans rarely dawdle far from their settlements. The Space Aether Foundation classifies them into three distinct categories: the Main Grid, the Micro Grid and the Unauthorised Grid. THE MAIN GRID The Main Nexus Grid is comprised of eight Nexuses, listed as numerals #00 through #07. They are the largest populated Nexuses under direct juristdiction of Space Aether Foundation. #00 - Space Aether Foundation Headquarters & Aether City The first Nexus, established soon after the fallout of the universe. There is nothing in this Nexus except for vast skies. A modern city floats around the Space Aether Foundation Headquarters building in this environment. The space within the Nexus is seemingly limitless, with no end in scanner range in any direction. Some theoretists still claim something else must exist within this Nexus, but no research has yielded any results all the years since its discovery (unknown date) and initial human inhabitation. The sky within the Nexus is constantly sunny, never shifting towards either extreme hot or cold. Weather conditions are stable with no rain nor any possible or projected disturbance. The source of the sun-like formation shining inside of the Nexus is still unknown and unclear, as scanning it has provided no conclusive results nor matches with any known compound whatsoever. It is positioned approximately twice the distance between the old Pokearth and the old Sun, putting its size to gargantuan scales. It never sets so, in order to provide the city's inhabitants with a healthy biological cycle, the Space Aether Foundation has built filters into the barrier around the city which activate accordingly to dwindle the amount of light-exposure during night time. All other Main Grid and Micro Grid Nexuses orbit around #00. The actual HQ is a huge building towering at more than 10 km in height. It is suspended in the air. Cadets' office occupies floor B9. The President's chamber is on floor 333333. The HQ & city mostly houses Aether Employees of all sorts, and has around a 1,000,000 inhabitants. #01 - Gear City The second Nexus, functioning as a massive shipyard where Space Aether Employee Metalworkers work tirelessly day after day to build newer and better Anti-Spaceships capable of penetrating the outer spatial integrity of Nexuses. A vast city where gravity is artificial, there is nothing in this Nexus except a metallic dome-like-sky and a city built in the shape of a ball. Everything inside it is artifical, save for, obviously, life. The city was not built by Space Aether, instead appearing to literally be the interior of Nexus #01 itself. How or why the Nexus was formed in such a way is unknown. There used to be wild Pokemon in the many pipe-like halls leading deeper into the construct, but all have been safely deposited in the Micro Grid in the year 103. Nexus #01 afterwards took the previous function of Nexus #05 (ship construction) as it was deemed better suited for it. The city itself looks like someone threw a whole lot of metallic buildings together and connected them via pipes, railroads and metal bars. Its power supply seems limitless and emanates from the core that is located in the deepest parts of the city where few dare wander. Attempts have been made to harvest this power but none even reached the core. This has fueled rumors about unknown dangers lurking below. At night, the sun built into the dome-sky shuts down. >12,000,000 inhabitants. #02 - (former) Village of Victors What was formerly a grand Nexus of expansive plains where grass danced with fire itself and where legends were born (according to legends, at least), has been reduced to a mere shell of its former self through the last 20 years, ever since the incident happened. These plains that used to spread across the Nexus have since been replaced by poorly contsructed slums and rows of berry-trees that bear no fruit any longer. Pokemon roam free within this Nexus, as containment and detainment of Pokemon released during the aforementioned incident was impossible to achieve without casualties due to the sheer number of them. Most people living here have flocked to the Nexus after getting fired or some other event that left them broke, so the place has become a sort of human dumpster. And it definitely looks the part. Delinquency is a rule there. Oh, and they also live in fear of Pokemon in this Nexus, though some have started changing opinions. What the future holds for this Nexus is unclear, but life is hard. People here tend to resent Space Aether for leaving them in this state and President Haether is working her very best to correct the mistakes of her predecessor. The skies shine a bright red. ??? inhabitants (presumed over 3 million). #03 - Kartantuan Jungle The third Nexus presumed to only fall short from the title of the largest because of #00's expansive skies and #04's oceanic depths. It is a jungle made from trees and plants much largers than the ones you're used to. Ferns grow as tall as buildings and trees tear the skies. It is an unwelcome environment that humans have avoided for a long time, though some have opted to live their lives in peace there, away from the business of Space Aether, starting self-sufficient small tribal societies which live in treehouses high up on the tallest branches to avoid dangers below. Pokemon roam wild within this Nexus, as containment is impossible, and mostly consist of Flying, Bug and Grass types. The bountiful environment allows them to enjoy life in the jungle. Over 99% of this Nexus is left unexplored as most expeditions fail. None of the actual tribal settlements have been discovered as of now. ??? inhabitants. #04 - The Wailuda Triangle Resort The majority of Nexus #04 is comprised of untamed, raging oceans. The only inhabitable segment of the Nexus's interior is a small triangle-shaped area around a big island called the Wailsland. Space Aether controls and regulates the weather here, making it stable. Meanwhile, in year 347, it has been remodeled into a popular resort where people from all other Nexuses can come and enjoy the charms of the seaside. There is an aquarium filled with Water-type Pokemon here open for public, though it is under heavy surveillance at all times, but what's really interesting about this Nexus are the unexplored depths. Using highly efficient Anti-Space probes, it has been estimated that the actual depth of this Nexus cannot be estimated in terms of human comprehension. An Alakazam died after being exposed to the computed results in an attempt by the Foundation to decipher them, after which further testing was prohibited. Magikarp have been imported and can be fished in the waters here. The locals make a living out of it. The Magikarp are chipped and, upon evolution, removed and brought into a containment preserve. 113 inhabitants. #05 - Storage Site 00 The grim building in front of the constantly black skies used to be the Main Grid's main shipyard until it got scratched over 500 years ago and remade into a dump. Nobody goes there anymore except for janitors and there's not much to see anyways. Just a building full of trash. Oh, and Pokemon that have escaped during the incident 20 years ago. Exactly for this reason has it been ruled that janitors be given permission to carry their own Pokemon on them, a notion largely accepted by the majority of them as most of them were trying for the Cadet position at the Aether Academy anyways but failed. 0 inhabitans. #06 - Space Aether Agricultural Lab Facility Where berries are grown. Large farmlands adorn the horizon, dotted with white buildings - laboratories, and rows and rows of GMO berry trees. This is mostly a workplace for most of the people, nobody actually lives there and it isn't interesting at all. This used to be a butcherhouse for when Pokemon meat was still used as food, but not anymore as only synthesized meat is allowed to be used nowadays. 0 inabitants. #07 - Las Spaceadise A high-tech flashy city of casinos and all things neon. It is the playground of the privileged and only the rich can afford to live here. Most of its income comes from gambling facilities and fraud, and most of the people living here are con artists of some sort. Nothing seems to exist outside of city limits (only impenetrable and impassable darkness), but everything can exist within them. It is the place where desires come to fruition. Space Aether keeps out of its affairs because of the vast riches #07 has on its disposal. Pokemon Professor Banana lives here. 576,389 inhabitants. It takes around 30 minutes from one Nexus to another using the high speed Anti-Space Bus. People constantly travel to their workplaces in another Nexus or Micro Nexus, so travelling between Nexuses has become an everyday phenomenon nobody really even talks about anymore except when complaining about ticket prices. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE MICRO GRID The Micro Grid refers to all authorised Nexuses that fall out of the Main Grid categorization because of their smallness. These include Pokemon containment preserves, academies and stuff like prisons and mental hospitals. ***SPACE AETHER ACADEMY*** The Space Aether Academy is the leading facility for training new Space Aether Employees and its own Micro Nexus. Actually there are two of these, one for people with more money and the other one for people with less money. Of course, everything is better in the richer Academy, but the less expensive one is a good alternative for the less fortunate people. After all, the 2nd Academy has been built specifically to house those that could not pay the tuition for the more expesnive courses offered. Everyone has to pass one of the courses offered at the Academy, as everyone works for Space Aether. -> The Cadet Course The most popular course taken in the Space Aether Academy, but also the most expensive one and the one with the highest fail rate. Children can start the course at the ripe young age of 7, and finish it in 4 years minimum. Generally though, people apply when they're 11 and fail at least twice before completing the course at the age of 17. The course does not accept anyone older than 21 and if you fail and you're older than 25, you cannot retake the year or the course. Applicants that fail, cannot afford the tuition, or are too old, become Space Aether Janitors. This happens to 75% of all the applicants. Yes, 75%. At the end of the course, whether you went to the 1st or the 2nd Academy, you need to take the official Space Aether Employee Cadet Exam held at the HQ which consists of a written exam and, allegedly, a practical exam. Allegedly because you've only been put through the written exam and have already been given your IDs. Who knows what kinda stuff is waiting for you or if the practical exam even exists. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE UNAUTHORISED GRID The Unauthorised Grid refers to all Nexuses that have not been approved by Space Aether. Any new Nexus that appears is first branded as such before explored by Cadets and populated or given a purpose. Through history, mostly small ones have been popping up, but lately, their mean size has begun to grow. This is cause for concern, as larger Nexuses tend to hide many mysteries. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE INCIDENT The incident that took place 20 years ago resulted in several containment and preservation facilities in the Micro Grid colliding with several Nexuses from the Main Grid (mainly #00 and #05), in an attempt made by a group calling themselves the Space Pokelluminati to reintroduce Pokemon and people while subsequently undermine Space Aether. The traces of the rebellion led the Space Aether Employee Detectives to Nexus #02 and caused its downfall. Space Pokelluminati have not been heard of ever since. ... THE LAST STAR The Last Star is the last remaining astral body in the universe of Pokemon in Space. It is the brightest recorded star in history so far. Ever since the Great Comsostrophe, humans (and Pokemon) have had an innate yearning towards the Star. It is unknown what causes this phenomenon. Space Aether is currently attempting to send probes to reach the Star, but are getting no results. It is general folklore that the Last Star holds the answer to everyone's prayers and has the power to change everything to how it used to be. ... ANTI-SPACE Anti-Space is a physical state in which nothing exists, not even Anti-Space itself. The only reason people can survive in the universe of Pokemon in Space is because of Nexuses. Even Anti-Spaceships are infused with the same kind of energy as the Nexuses in order to prevent them from falling out of existence. This makes interstellar travel much more difficult and prevents the humanity from launching real expeditions towards the Last Star. ... *MAKING YOUR CHARACTER* Name: (Boy/Girl/Neither) Age: Appearance: Personality: Backstory: Starter: Special Skill: -> Name Knock yourselves out. Future is spiffy. Write the name and then bold the gender option. -> Age Anywhere between 11 and 25. Youngest Space Aether Employee Cadets start their cadetship at the age of 11 after finishing the Space Aether Academy. The regular populace usually starts the Academy at age 11 and finishes the 4 grades somewhere at age 17 after failing each year at least twice. If you have the money, you can try again until you're 25. If you don't have money, you become a Space Aether Janitor. If you fail after turning 26, you become a Space Aether Janitor. It's simple. -> Appearance Your appearance and out-of-work wardrobe. Because Space Aether has regulations and uniforms. You can choose between a sleeveless jumpsuit + shirt and just a regular shirt and pants kind of uniform here for guys and a jumpsuit or shirt + skirt or pants for girls. -> Personality Again, knock yourselves out. Anything goes, pretty much. There's no limit to how much you write in here. -> Backstory Self-explanatory. Write which Nexus you came from and whatever else you want to put in here. I will help you write this, so don't hesitate to ask me. -> Starter The Pokemon you've requested from the Space Aether Foundation or one that you've brought in yourself, you fithly #02 street rat. This can be any Pokemon that yields only 1 EV in the official games and can further evolve, except Scyther and Cosmog. For the EV yield list, refer to here: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_by_effort_value_yield -> Special Skill Your character's Special Skill. These can be used in and out of battle and you are required to pick your category here. Attacker | Lv 1 - active | Increase your active Pokemon's ATK or SP.ATK by 1 stage once per battle | Trickster | Lv 1 - active | Add a random 20% status-inflicting added effect to your active Pokemon's Physical or Special move once per battle | Explorer | Lv 1 - passive | Allows the user to notice special Points of Interest during dungeon crawling | Technician | Lv 1 - passive | User can move first in the turn order regardless of speed unless another character also has this skill | Defender | Lv 1 - active | Increase your active Pokemon's DEF or SP.DEF by 1 stage once per battle | (I want to make spiffy graphics for the categories so you just wait a little til I get them done, ehehehe...)
  2. Oh! You've overcome Death itself. Congratulations, brave ones. However, many more obstacles stand in your way. I wonder how you'll fare in this spaceless existence... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Greetings everyone, and welcome to the official Out of Character thread for the roleplay titled "Pokemon in Space". I am Bfroger6, your host, and it will be my job and my responsibility to guide you through the many wonders I have prepared in this world of my creation. There will be fun, there will be difficulty, but I know you'll be able to prevail over it all and seize what you must seek. What that is, however, is still up for debate... Without further ado (as there have been many changes done to the original Pokemon system in order to accomodate it to a fair and judgeable rp system), let's get the techicalities out of the way before introducing the world itself, shall we~? !!!The first post of this thread will deal with the system used in this rp. The subsequent post will regard the setting and character creation!!! !!!The third post will contain all accepted character data!!! *SYSTEM* /technical aspects introduced to the rp in an attempt to allow for fair judgement during both combat and out-of-combat situations/ The system might look scary, but I'm sure everyone will get used to it eventually through playing the rp. There's one other aspect of the system that needs addressing, however. ...but before even that... NOTE: DECIMALS ALWAYS ROUND DOWN ON EVERY STEP IN EVERY CALCULATION. WHEN YOU SEE A DECIMAL, ROUND IT DOWN QUICK. (i.e. if your Nature is Brave and your SPE is 99, you'll only deduct 9 from it, not 9.9) ...let's move on... *DUNGEON CRAWLING* /the short & sweet explanation/

  4. Slumbering Giant vs Strider "..!" That was a close call! Had Strider kept going at Mommo and then changed directions, the Giant would have been caught in the explosion created by one volley of rockets colliding eith the other. As things turned out, she didn't even have to fire the second volley. A bead of sweat ran down Mommo's cheek as she gripped the controls. She was still distracted...too distracted. What did she want...why wasn't Ares's gift helping!? What did Sloth say about it..? She couldn't remember. She had to fight now! As the Giant had been turning slowly, it wouldn't have turned its torso much from the starting position by the time Strider circled to her front. Mommo quickly released two cluster grenades from her elbow compartments which exploded several meters in front of Strider, showering her and the area around her in shrapnels, while still far enough as to not do any damage to Giant itself. Meanwhile, Mommo loaded the Giant's main cannon onto the back of its right arm and prepared the rockets. If Strider escaped the grenades, she would instantly be targeted by these rockets (the same as last turn) heading in her direction and circling her out from all sides before colliding in a massive explosion.
  5. Slumbering Giant vs Strider Mommo's plan almost worked. Almost. Seems like Strider was better than she thought, and more mobile at that, if she could keep up with this icy terrain. The bullets penetrated the energy layer of the Giant's defense, but couldn't leave more than denting in her heavy plate armoring, especially around the back, so she was fine. More importantly, judging from Strider's movements, she was trying to avoid her lasers and strike from her presumed undefended point. Too bad for her that Mommo had a whole artillery hidden inside the Giant. She fired a dozen rockets upwards from her arms and they flew at Strider in zig-zaging motions, trying to cut her escape route off and strike. Meanwhile, Mommo began turning the Giant in the direction Strider was heading (so if Strider's movements suggested she was heading towards Mommo's left Mommo would turn that way). The rockets would fly at Strider from the other direction, effectively preventing her from heading there. If she tried shooting them down she would probably succeed, but that also meant she wouldn't be shooting at Mommo anymore. And Mommo was preparing the rest of her artillery to strike in case Strider broke through. A new dozen rockets was ready to fire if Strider decided to move to close-quarters for some reason, and would blast her away launching into her front in a spread if she came within a 3-m radius. "..." The Giant's weight was shifting on the ice as it turned. Mommo felt like she was missing something in her plan. A possible flaw...she was too distracted to notice it...damn.
  6. Mhm, was gonna do that when the thing actually started but I suppose it couldn't hurt to make one now, since I'm getting legit interest: https://discord.gg/SVgzWqx Feel free to join, I suppose~ Also, the official sign-ups start when I put the OoC/Sign-ups thread up sometime after February the 2nd.
  7. Ahaha, but I've already got it covered, my dear friend! Minimum is 6, and maximum is 9. Because too many can be chaotic and I need 6 so that there are at least two teams of three people active at all time to do missions and sub-missions. Also, if you're wondering about my progress so far, I've completed 7 character portraits out of 10 I'd need for the start, made concepts for the main Nexuses #00 - #07 and conceptualized a few ideas for Nexus Dungeons #08 - #17. 2 out of expected ~10-ish sub-missions (not important for the actual beginning) ideas have been firmly established and Dungeon #1 - Crystal Forest has gotten its boss with an exploitable niche for system training. Furthermore, NPC teams are falling into place one by one and their respective battle musics are in the process of being decided on. Start and end goals are set in stone, while the rest of the story focuses on slowly uncovering the mysteries of all the Nexuses and the Last Star. My progress has been slowed down by some exams, but it's all good right now and I have lots of free time in February to do everything I need to do. I'd expect the OoC out soon-ish and then I can make finishing touches as you guys do your sheets for the sign-ups. Space Aether Employee Cadet Betani -your colleague and totally not your future rival or anything; two years your senior regarding graduation from the Space Aether Academy and a battling-genius whose hot-headedness sometimes cuts her judgement short- Nexus #02 - (former) Village of Victors -an urban slum that used to be beautiful plains stretching as far as the eye could see with a small village where legends were born; it lost its splendor after its people were blamed for the incident that happened 20 years ago- -Froger out~
  8. Klaren chirped to life as Maya healed him (albeit somewhat unwillingly) and went on ahead, glad that everything was slowly falling into place. ...except the fact they wouldn't get to see what was behind that door... Moving to I18 and waiting
  9. Slumbering Giant vs Strider The railguns, targeting no specific weak spots on Mommo's armor, would bounce right off, as the most effective way to impair the giant's frontal defenses would've been heavy-powered bludgeoning. As Strider was backing away, there wasn't much Mommo could do at the time other than fire off a couple more beams from the energy cannons in her palms and prepare the reast of her weaponry (i.e. grenades, rockets, etc.) for when (if ever) Strider decided to approach her. Though if these shots were the best Strider could pull at long-range, then there was no problem. Analysing her surroundings, Mommo decided would have to make the most out of the problematic terrain. For example, if she was having trouble balancing on this ice, then Strider would also have at least some degree of issue with it as well. To take advantage of this assumption, Mommo would target the cannons at the point a few meters in front of where Strider was moving in order to force her to quickly have to change direction and then, if the lack of friction kicked in, she would have a nice target to practice and she wouldn't hesitate to shoot her down immediately with a well-aimed and timed shot of her cannons. "..." Mommo's mind was clear for now, but she was, regardless, having trouble dividing her full attention to the fight. There were so many other things on her mind...
  10. Slumbering Giant vs Strider "..." This girl...Strider...she spoke utter foolishness. Her words made no sense. They were contradictory to the whole point of this tournament-to win. Anyone in their sane mind would take advantage of Mommo's weakness and strike her down before she could regain her composure. But Strider was actually giving her time to recover...no, she was even pushing her to do so. So that they could have a fair fight because of some moral code. It was stupid, like she herself had said, but Mommo's eyes sparkled as she opened them wide at the girl's words. Was this the reason why the crowd liked this girl? Mommo never had a knack for these things...she couldn't figure it out nor could she reciprocate it. She could only pretend to understand and hope she was close to the jist of it. It was like getting lost in the whiteness of a snowstorm, and she was but a pebble on the side of the road. She wanted to talk to Strider now. She wanted to hear more...see more even. And the best way she could do that was through a battle. Slowly, she let her eyelids drop...and... Mommo raised her giant's hands to the front, aiming at Strider. Strider herself would be alerted at the cannons in Mommo's palms charging. "..." Mommo focused, holding tight to the controls once more, only this time her grip was firm. "...fire..." She whispered to herself as she released two powerful blasts of dark blue energy, beams of sorts, at Strider. Her mech's footing shifted slightly from the backlash despite its overall weight... She would need to take this into account later on.
  11. Slumbering Giant vs Strider "..." Mommo looked at Strider's mech as she heard her voice. "What...do you mean..?" She answered back, slowly. She may not have noticed but she was getting calmer now that she was focusing on something else. But she wasn't planning on holding back. Why would she hold back? She needed to win, after all...oh, wait...her weaponry systems were still off. Was Strider actually trying to help her fight? What was up with that? W-weren't they all here just to win? What would be the point if they started playing friends..? Mommo never had anyone to be friendly with. Then again, Strider did use the word 'favor'. So she was probably mocking her or something because she was losing it while she was gaining it. Not that Mommo cared. She only wanted to know right now, what the girl meant. It confused her. Still, her grip on the controls loosened a bit and the mech stabilized on the ice. Maybe she was just trying too hard. It would be better to just take a nap...
  12. Slumbering Giant vs Strider Mommo was sweating even though they were on ice and it was damn cold. This occurence could only partially be attributed to the fact she had to hold the controls so very tight as to prevent any slight misshaps as her dear Giant's feet danced on the slippery surface. She was never much for moving around, really, but she'd already seen the other contestants and experienced how strong they were, completely unlike the damn fodder she had to fight to even get here. She was starting to doubt herself even, a sentiment only fortified by the fact Ares hadn't contacted her again. She still wore his gift around her neck, but it still didn't seem to be responding...her favor was going to start running out soon too if she doesn't pull something special off... That was basically the other, main reason why she was sweating. Mostly Ares. And maybe HUNTER a bit. So when she looked at her current opponent, Strider, and heard everyone around cheering them on, her heart only sank deeper. She had no clue about their abilities nor did she have an ace up the sleeve. She was defenseless even though she was surrounded by who knows how many tons of mega super unpiercable alloy metal substance. Yet this very Strider woman was the one that saved her during their travel and Mommo felt grateful on top of everything else. So she was being flooded and confused and distracted by the emotions right now. It made her disregard the actual battlefield while focusing on the one inside her mind. So she didn't move yet. Nor charge anything. Nor prepare anything. What was she even fighting this battle for?
  13. Yes, you can get more skills later on~ And you'll have customisation options for how you want your skill growth to progress. i.e. your basic lvl 1 skill is Attacker, but then you can take Trickster's lvl 2 to handle statuses better or choose Attacker's lvl 3 and just whoosh everything away. Keep in mind your starting skill will determine your Category (Attacker, Trickster, Dungeoneer, Technician, Defender) and your Category may lock you out of gaining skills from one of the other Categories. Basically, missions award you points. There's a table with all the skills. Each skill costs points. There are also restrictions, as I've said, so you won't be able to gain a Defender skill if you already have an Attacker skill and vice versa. Be patient though, I'm gonna put it all up clearly in the OoC : d Hmhmhm. I'm looking forward to seeing all the characters, then. Though I'll still be strict to all of you during character creation~
  14. I have decided that the basic skills you can choose to start with are the Attacker (Atk/Sp.Def), Defender (Def/Sp.Def), Trickster (Status), Technician (renaming Ninja) and Explorer (renaming Dungeoneer) skills. For now you don't need to know anything more than these five categories : d Froger out~
  15. Non-dungeon missions apply to this as well. For evolutions like Golbat -> Crobat, missions done as a Zubat also count, of course. Basically they collect points that count towards Friendship by accompanying you to missions~ Trading Pokemon isn't a thing anymore since the public doesn't have access to Pokemon. So there's a guy with a link cable machine who can pretend-trade with you~ This will be restricted though, so you don't go insta-evolving your starters. Pokemon like Magneton/Nosepass and others that evolve when leveled in a certain location evolve when leveled in a certain location. There's a bunch of Nexuses, so I'm sure there's at least one with a strong magnetic field. Or lots of moss for you to coat your Eevee with~ Or a fridge to put that Eevee in, hehe How Sylveon evolves is a mystery
  16. I haven't said it but this system has been made with the idea of 3 players battling on one side to beat down tougher opponents, so battles are usually gonna be 3v1, or 3v2 or 3v3. Or special legendary Pokemon battles I'm just gonna mention now but not explain in order to hook you~ In such a system, a flinch which severely impaires the Pokemon's ability to both dodge attacks (speed drop) and clash them (moves can only clash moves with the same or lower priority) could make or break you if you're not careful, coupled with the ability to up your own chances of landing a flinch by x4.00 through accuracy and evasion... Yeah. Statuses can still work too, it's all about timing them well enough to hit your opponent. They do have a very high chance of failing though, with that they need to both logically be applicable (ie, Smokescreen won't work if your opponent uses Gust to blow it out of the way, but if you use Smokescreen when at really close range, they would have a really limited amount of time available to deal with it). Same goes for moves like Will o' Wisp, Thunder Wave and Hypnosis. Spore is a pretty rad status move since spores are kinda really hard to avoid when poofed into your face. Not to mention lots of moves have secondary effects inflicting statuses whose chance of success can be increased by either lowering the opponent's evasion or raising your own accuracy. And there's 3 of you battling, so combo it up~ Talking about that...I may change up Prankster again. I feel like I can't really get the core idea behind it to work in this system. For now it's all about balance, I think, so flinching doesn't make you outright unable to move, but it does make you a pretty sweet target while still giving you a chance to fight back Maybe I should also mention that you will only carry 3 of your Pokemon with you on missions. The others meanwhile remain in containment areas. That's so you guys could get swept even if there's like 3 of you in a battle : d
  17. Yeah you don't get any perks just by showing interest. If you want in you gotta post when the actual OoC thread is out and I tell you all that sign-ups are open. Then you character needs to be accepted. If it's not good, I'll help you fix it. But if it keeps not being good, I'm not gonna accept it. Interest checks are, to me, basically just to see if something's worth doing. Since I'm a goddamn Wimpod I would've completely abandoned this had I gotten no replies when I posted the thread. Rip me. Also, in this case, I used the interest check to showcase my new system and get some feedback from people on it. So while I definitely am grateful to you for showing interest and, in a way, cheering this project on, it's not gonna guarantee you getting in. I'm gonna be fair. Some people may not have posted here but are interested. Or some people are only gonna notice it when I post the OoC and sign-ups. So everyone gets equal chance to get in, just how it's supposed to be ~ Froger out~
  18. You should probably wait for the OoC unless you really want to send it now. I won't give you any feedback yet though even if you send it, other than about the technicalities if you perhaps missed something from the updated. I mean, I wrote a whole megapost about it, lolz, haha Also, I forgot an important category in the character sheet section - Appearance. Whoops. I'll add that, though it ain't as important right now as it's gonna be when the OoC goes up.
  19. I wouldn't be annoyed, I'd be glad~ But the viability of this varies on the goal you wish to accomplish by sending me your sheet now. If you just want to show me your personality and Pokemon without asking me tricky questions about your possible backstory now that the plot and history hasn't been revealed yet (which I honestly do expect is what you wanna send me your sheet for~), then yep, you can send it to me. Everyone can send them to me for that. Because the only reason I could see against you sending me your tentative character sheet would be that it could induce a sense of you getting some sort of special treatment, but once the OoC is up, everyone who wants to participate will have to PM me their sheets before posting them anyways, so I'd say it's okay, especially since I am not gonna reveal anything to you and if something slips from me Imma post it right in this thread and also say that everyone else can do the same if they're bored. Seeing what Pokemon you'd all wanna start with could help me balance out the early stages of the game (since I'm still inexperienced at this stuff, and usually the games only have a limited choice of mons while these Poke-rps usually let people choose ANYTHING which I'm afraid could give me problems), though I already have a design that I think could incorporate literally any Pokemon and type combination of the players' partners. Do keep in mind that overhyping right now when the start of the rp is still a ways off could lead do disappointments if I have to postpone it for any reason. tl;dr If you wanna discuss backstory, there's gonna be a time for that when the actual sign-ups start. If you want to do anything other than discuss backstory and world elements, then sure, send it~ Froger out~ p.s. I mean, it would give me something to do and look at while I'm derping, lol, so I personally ain't against it xD I love looking at characters. Also, you seem to be pretty excited so who am I to crush your drea- oh wait, yeah, I'm the GM of this roleplay. It's my job to do that~ p.p.s. Wow that was long. But I have to be fair. Have a nice image. Nexus #00 - Space Aether Foundation Headquarters + Aether City (aka, where you live at the start of the plot)
  20. You can only abuse your character's understanding of physics, if they have any~ Don't forget it ain't you that's in the actual game. Also, not all battles will be in space. It depends on the Nexus. Or if you're fighting outside of a Nexus, but that would be anti-space. It might take longer. What I wrote is still the most optimistic outcome, haha. I'll update you all on it if I see I won't make it in time. I do have the start and finish in mind. I still need to worldbuild all of the main Nexuses one by one though. And about the TMs...they don't exist in your society anymore. You think Aether still uses DVDs? Hell naw, TMs run on BlueRay nowadays. So when you find 'em, do what you want, but you'll have to consider your circumstances working in a team and under Porygon's watchful eye~ Thx~
  21. You'll find TMs in dungeons~ They'll be laying on the ground. You can also get them from some fights. ***Update*** World Map, v.1 7 main Nexuses + 1. 1,076,999 smaller Nexuses -> Pokemon facilities (stars inside the Nexus grid). 12 training facilities (only one visible on the map). Dungeon #1 Map - Crystal Forest F0 X - target (can be a PvB battle). ! - PvWP battle. !! - More difficult PvWP battle. | _ - doors (unlockable). ? - unspecified point of interest. Red - visible. Green - only visible to Dungeoneer. You can't proceed without interacting if a point of interest is in your path. -> Status Inflicting moves Moves that inflict special status conditions and things like Leech Seed have an innate fail chance equal to 100% - their Acc. They only take effect on the turn after the target has been confirmed hit and I've rolled the fail chance. Paralysis lasts for 3 turns. It drops the effective Speed stat of the afflicted by half and makes them act last in the turn order. Burn drops the effective Attack stat of the afflicted by half, therefore dropping their power. Does 1/16 max HP damage. -> Triage/Prankster Triage gives +3 priority to damaging draining moves, making them unclashable by anything in a lower priority bracket. Prankster lets you target two Pokemon at once with a status move (such as Leech Seed) that would otherwise target only one. Status moves targeting the user work normally. -> OHKO moves OHKO moves have 0 power and are, therefore, easy to clash. Well, more like disrupt, as they're actually insanely powerful. If they hit though, you get insta-KO'd. So do beware. (gee, I do wonder if flinching the enemy might help with this in some way, hmmmmmmmmmmm) -> Inclusion of PC vs Wild Pokemon battle style (PvWP) This will work like normal Pokemon battles to minimize time consumption. All moves and abilities work like they do in the games. Actually, all of it works like in the games, except stats and calculations. Trainer battles, dungeon bosses and legendary Pokemon use the new system. (PvP/PvB) -> Flinch Flinch pushes the target to move last in the next turn. Also, their attacks receive a -1 priority penalty for that turn. First dungeon will be a test-ride. Possible tweaks will happen after it's done~ And I think that's all. I'll be finishing my designs and plot overview, then posting the OoC next. Don't expect it to be out in the next couple of days, though. I'll try to make it as soon as possible. Expect it to happen in the next couple of weeks. p.s. I'm excited, haha! Froger out~
  22. @Cronos5010 I suppose there'd be no limit for nicknames though people in Space Aether don't usually give them. Space Aether Employee Cadets are usually the only ones that permanently receive Pokemon for themselves. Keep in mind this would probably be the first Pokemon you ever had or have come in close contact with unless you were involved in a certain incident as a kid (which will all be in the story part of the OoC). It would definitely be the first Pokemon you can call your own, since Pokemon are for use by Space Aether only and bringing them out into public is prohibited so even if your family was in Space Aether too they wouldn't have been able to give one to you as a child. As such, having a Pokemon will be a new and strange but also exciting experience for the PCs. Btw, when requesting a starter you'll only be writing which species of Pokemon you'd like. Once you receive them you'll be free to choose Natures, nicknames and the likes. I'll be taking care of their initial moves. ***UPDATE*** -> Exp System The Exp system will use Komodojoe's idea as its basis. New suggestion is that the Exp multiplier be determined by the difference in the number of EVs the Pokemon involved yield. For instance, Parasect yields 2 Atk and 1 Def EV, which equates to 3 EVs in total. A Fearow yield only 2 EVs. Therefore, Fearow will receive a *1.50 modifier to the earned Exp value after beating Parasect, even though they are both evolutinoary stage 2 Pokemon. A Spearow would get a multiplier of *2.00 beating a Parasect. (what the heck though, who gave Parasect 3 EVs, lol, Parasect will be the Audino of this rp except easier to kill xD) Trainer controlled Pokemon give +10 additional Exp. It takes 100 Exp for a Pokemon to level up. -> Special Skills The special skills Poke-Pro and Resourceful are removed. Instead, they will be replaced by these new skills: Attacker | Once per battle, raise your active Pokemon's Atk and Sp.Atk stats by 1 stage until it switches out or is defeated | Defender | Once per battle, raise your active Pokemon's Def and Sp.Def stats by 1 stage until it switches out or is defeated | Dungeoneer | Allows the user to detect special hidden points of interest on the dungeon map | Adding more new skills is in progress. Good thing is now we have 4 instead of 3! -> Accuracy and Evasion Moves which either lower or raise the accuracy or evasion of the battlers have their effects revoked. Instead, these moves will now affect the chance of infllicting added effects with moves by the values of *0.25, 0.28, 0.33, 0.40, 0.50, 0.66, 1.00, 1.50, 2.00, 2.50, 3.00, 3.50, 4.00. A Cleffa targeting a Riolu with -6 evasion after 3 Metronome invoked Sweet Scent will have a 40% chance of burning it after hitting it with Flamethrower. However, the same would only apply to a move such as Ancientpower if Cleffa had +6 accuracy. The Riolu's chance of inflicting added effects would not be lowered because its evasion got lowered, tho. A Cleffa with -6 accuracy would only have a 2.5% chance of inliftcing a burn with Flamethrower. So go cray cray with dem Mud Slaps to keep that Cleffa away from you, yo. I like Cleffa tho. Also, keep in mind that moves like Smokescreen can still be used to flippin' blind everything with smoke. It's just that accuracy and evasion are useless in my battle system so I just changed what they do. -> Turn Order The turn order cannot be changed mid-battle if a Pokemon raises its Speed stat though it will still let the Pokemon move faster in comparison to the opponent. -> Priority Moves Moves with priority don't act first but instead cannot be clashed with moves that have lower priority than them. They can still be clashed with the moves of the same or higher priority, though. Because status moves cannot be clashed, the abilites Prankster and Triage will be edited accordingly. Abilities like Dazzling and Queenly Majesty, as well as the Psychic Terrain still prevent moves with priority from being executed. Also, Gale Wings no longer affects status moves because of this. (haha, it got even more nerfed now~~~Talonflame rip) -> Abilities Wild Pokemon (and starters) will have one of their possible abilities randomly assigned to them upon a succesful catch/acquisition. Perhaps someone very nice from the Space Aether NPC Staff could help you if you don't like the abilities you ended up with. There's a catch tho and it's that they're only gonna do it... for a fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! o-o Oh, and there's always going to be a 5% chance that a Pokemon will have its Hidden Ability (except with Starters, rip). -> Egg Moves There's no breeding, but there's gonna be a way to get these. I need to roleplay a battle against myself to test this stuff out. For now I have no clue what to do with flinching, lol. More info will be added/changed after I do that. p.s. Do give suggestions or ask questions if you so wish ;] I'm just making these posts so I don't forget anything I want to add. Also, posting it up on the forum really gets me to think things through the way I wouldn't if I just jotted it down in my notebook because it's sort of more final, so everything first goes here before I write it down for myself and I like to hear people's opinions as well. Btw I'm still a long ways from finalizing this project. Froger out~
  23. Awww, thanks guys, I'm super glad for all your help! Without further ado, I'll be replying to everyone in order... @IntSys I don't feel like really making the maps in roll20, haha. Thank goodness I'm familiar with some drawing programs, like SAI~ @Cronos5010 Thanks for the online map makers, I opened them up and they look pretty neat. I wonder if I may be able to make full use of them running through some image editing program. I'll definitely be trying it out. Also, well, I was thinking of just letting you guys post your moves up in the OoC to keep things simpler, though I think I get what you're saying. It'd be better if people didn't know which moves the other players have in their arsenals as if not to metagame and take up moves that could beat those moves in PvP. In battles against NPC enemies this issue is alleviated because you won't even get to see your foes' stats, lol, let alone their movesets~ I'll definitely consider it @AGuyPassingThrough Yesss! I'll most definitely try to get this up there! Until then, do not lose hope, my dear friend you! @Komodojoe This sounds interesting. Would you mind if I PM'd you about it? Because I'd also need to set how much exp is needed to level up at which level which is kind of a scary issue I'm facing, haha. It'd be nice to playtest this system and see for myself how it works. Thank you for you help, of course. I'm very grateful that you'd be willing to let me borrow this system ;] There are also some things I've missed in my first post. For example, I wrote that the HP modifier is 2.00, but it's actually 3.00. I'll be correcting that. Also, I forgot to specify what clashing through meant. Clashing means that both attacks get cancelled when they meet. Clashing through means that one attack beats the other in power and only the weaker attack gets cancelled. For example, you cancel your opponent's Return with your Earthquake because you have higher Atk stat and you can still use your attack to damage the opponent. I apologize, I know it's self-explanatory and you probably understood what it meant in my first post, but I still felt the need to write a proper explanation for it. Oh, and I wrote that Silk Scarf modified the damage by 1.10, when it actually modifies it by 1.20. Natures are also a thing and modify stats by 1.10. I'll be randomizing three possible natures for a Pokemon you catch or receive, starters included, and then you'll be given a free choice between those three. On the topic of starters, as I've said, all Pokemon that evolve are available, so if you wanna take a pseudo-legendary, be my guest. However, those do usually take a longer time to evolve, now don't they~? >:] Oh, and Type:Null isn't available, btw. Pokemon that evolve by trading can also be evolved by talking to a specific NPC. You'll be able to evolve a Pokemon that evolved at max friendship after going through a set number of missions/sub-missions together with that Pokemon. You'll be notified once your Pokemon is ready to evolve. While I'm working on my concepts, I'll introduce an NPC... Space Aether President Haether & Porygon-AZ -The young president of Space Aether Foundation; cheery, outgoing and excitable; nobody knows how she keeps her hair up like that at all times- -Porygon-AZ will coordinate your missions; he's gonna be sending messages to your Aether Communicators as you traverse the Nexus Dungeons and you're gonna wanna go to him if you're looking for your next assingment- ----------------------------------------------------- The main method of communication between Space Aether Employee Cadets is the Aether Communicator, or the A-Comm. It will display the scanned Nexus Dungeon map for you and indicate your mission goal. After Mission #1 it will also display the available Pokemon in the area and serve as your Pokedex, so you'll be able to see what are your options for a new partner and have enough time to make a decision. You'll be able to use it to communicate among yourselves if you get separated or directly with Porygon-AZ at the HQ. Additionally, on every mission, the minimum number of players deployed will be 3. You'll have a choice whether to go on a mission or stay at the HQ when the time rolls around. At the HQ you'll also be able to participate in missions. Sometimes, Porygon-AZ will request for some of you to stay grounded and perform some duties inside the HQ, like investigations and whatnots. These usually yield less Exp because battles aren't mandatory and you won't get a chance to catch new Pokemon, but the info and rewards you might get out of these Sub-Missions will be invaluable. Catching Pokemon works simple when ordinary wild Pokemon are in question. You're usually gonna be able to outright catch your desired Pokemon after dropping its HP. Oh, and we don't use Poke Balls at Space Aether. Instead, we use specifically-prescribed special Space Aether Balls. They're like, totally better. There's also gonna be an evil team in this rp. What might this Symbol of theirs mean??? Froger out~
