  1. Do I really have to explain why you can't account for flinching in assessing a pokemon's bulk? That's ridiculous. As for your second point: 1. 2 set up moves = Less offensive options for an offensive pokemon. 2. Excadrill isn't going to be able to reliably set up for two turns against any pokemon by any important trainer in the game. That would require, well, a lot of luck. 3. Your "inneffective" argument is moot, because most Gym Leader pokemon aren't "ineffective". Most carry powerful STABs, coverage options, and status moves that will ruin Excadrill's day if it sits there. It's pretty obvious you have no experience with Excadrill and lack a proper understanding of its strength's and weaknesses. It's a good pokemon, but don't bother to try and say it can do what it clearly can't for argument's sake. Breeding a new pokemon with a good moveset and training it takes hours. 1 or 2 retries at the gym takes 20-30 mins, max.
  2. Nah, Durant doesn't have good bulk, that's it. 50% more health makes a hell of a difference, and Durant struggles to take a neutral special attack from anything worth its salt. This isn't the aspect of Durant you should be defending here - he is nice offensively, though a 20% flinch rate is annoying and can cost you big time. Ground, Fighting, and Fire attacks are all very common as coverage moves and you can't always see them coming from a mile away. Saying Excadrill can set up against bad/ineffective match ups isn't a point of its favor, even average pokemon can do that. Putting Sandstorm on him isn't a very good idea, for obvious reasons, that role should be delegated to another pokemon on the team. You think a team with Blaziken, Alakazam, and Magnezone, is going to need 50 attempts to make it through a gym? Reborn isn't THAT difficult.
  3. I don't think EV spreads for trainers would force you to EV train. It would give their pokemon an advantage, but it wouldn't be as bad as an egregious BST difference, which you had to deal with earlier in the game (Ex: Your likely pitiful-average pokemon vs Shade's Chandelure, Gengar, and Spiritomb)
  4. If you're relying on Donphan's special defense, you're using him wrong. In fact most of his 3 weaknesses come in the form of special attacks. You're right, Donphan has great physical bulk and attack prowess, that's what you use him for. Uh, Durant has an HP stat of 58, effectively making his defense average and his special defense wafer thing. Excadrill's weaknesses are far more common offensively than its resistances are. It's good with sandstorm, but OP doesn't have another mon running that, and his team doesn't have good synergy with it otherwise. Excadrill isn't a wallbreaker, with Swords Dance it can wreck havoc but you're not setting up in something's face usually comes with a penalty. But like I said, I'm not arguing about the viability of the other pokemon you suggested. I'm not even saying Donphan is the better option as a whole, just that they don't outclass Donphan and Donphan isn't bad enough to need the boot. OP doesn't need a "pinnacle of Reborn" team. OP: Defensively, your team is vulnerable to fighting, ground, water. You may want to consider a Grass type to replace Vaporeon, depending on if you value this coverage more than having water stab
  5. Talonflame can get Brave Bird and Flare Blitz via Heart Scale immediately upon evolution, which is very strong at that point in the game. So I'd say just introduce fletchling/fletchinder later on at high lv
  6. People too often think that OU on competitive scene = "2 broken fer game". Though true in a fair amount of cases, this is not one of them. I think Talonflame line should be available, but at the very earliest Post-Noel
  7. How does Flare Blitz inhibit sweeping? Having Blaze Kick runs the risk of falling short of KOing and then getting hit, usually harder than what FB recoil could do to you because Blaziken's poor bulk. You really shouldn't expect to 6-0 your opponent with Blaziken anyway. It can do that in some circumstance, but you shouldn't inhibit Blaziken to (marginally) improve its chances of doing so. Being able to sweep up to 3-4 pokes is good as it is.
  8. I think constraint is good - the gym leaders should always have better hold items since items are always stronger in the hands of the player than in the AI's, but I agree that our options could afford to expand more towards less gimmicky stuff if we give Gym Leaders good shizz.
  9. Your suggestions aren't bad, but none of the pokemon you listed outclass it and have their own respective faults, I wouldn't call them better options. Even Excadrill, an overall great pokemon, has its shortcomings, at least in-game (Bad bulk, common weaknesses, speed is eh, struggles against walls). None of the pokemon you suggest fit the role Donphan does, Durant, Excadrill and Archeops are all sweepers/glass cannons. Vaporeon can take a walk, though. @OP: Run Baton Pass + Bulk Up/other set up on your Blaziken. Swords Dance would be ideal but I don't know how you can breed that on. You don't really need additional coverage for Blaziken, he's not really suited to deal with the few things he could use coverage for, in that case just BP your boosts.
  10. I would actually enjoy the first. Go bananas :3
  11. Have to disagree with needing to replace Donphan. It's a very good option, Swampert is good in its own regard and a very bulky pokemon but Donphan surpasses it in physical bulk and attack, filling its own niche. You can breed one with Play Rough/Rock Slide/Stone Edge for coverage that compliments ground nicely, and Ice Shard is a good move, too.
  12. That is some downright evil placement. Props for the find.
  13. Hmm. Needs 3 Kyurem's. Use your imagination.
  14. Well, there's a difference between being broken and being impossible. This thread is for coming up with cruel modifiers. I think what I've suggested falls the lighter side of the punishment coin, it could be worse.
  15. What additional features would you put in Reborn to further frustrate/challenge players? Ex: - Giving full EV spreads to Gym Leader pokes - Expand Gym Leader's held items: Life Orbs, Assault Vest, Weakness Policies galore - Banning breeding until post game, or move to gen 6 breeding system (No TM pass downs lel) - Have Fern appear 3 times as often and at more inconvenient locations etc
  16. As others have said it lacks Mr. Mime's defining features. I like the general size/shape change and the jack in the box concept, though. Just make it look a lot more like Mr. Mime - He's a clown, a little alteration is all you need to make him nope material.
  17. Oran Berry/Moomoo Milk farming is EXTREMELY tedious. Just grind off grand hall trainers, change the date on your calendar a day forward for each battle, and keep track of where you are. Plus you'll get some juicy experience.
  18. I too would prefer a re-battle feature to the current Grand Hall trainers. It would make grinding pre exp share easier for lower level pokemon, allow faster level gain while EV training, and all that's required is that you talk to the trainer again. Just get rid of prize money from subsequent battles to balance.
  19. You have a speed boost Combusken, and Huge Power Azumarill and Diggersby. I think you're good.
  20. This. Also: For Gyarados - Replace Hyper Beam with Dragon Dance, and bite for Ice Fang (via Heart Scale). Simple, better options to work with. Golem - Get rid of Rollout for Stone Edge, hell even Rock Blast will do. Replace Double Edge with heavy slam at 69, or consider Rock Polish (Unless you're EV trained, however, it won't outspeed quite a few things, so you're probably best off without it). Delphox - Remove Future Sight/Cut for Shadow Ball/Will O wisp. Consider replacing Psychic with Psyshock to smack SpDef walls hard. 'Lucha - Replace Rock Smash with Swords Dance. May wanna replace Sky Attack but can't think of anything suitable atm. Open slot - Your team's water, electric, and ground vulnerabilities mean you probably want a grass type. Consider Amoonguss, Shiftry, Gogoat, etc.
  21. You should probably just swap Feint attack for Brick Break, keep Fire Blast and replace flamethrower with Lava Plume. Feint attack is pretty useless as a coverage move, Fire Blast is to hit hard while Lava Plume is useful for a chance to burn. Seriously, Feint attack does as much as a not very effective STAB Lava Plume. At the very least Brick Break covers rock.
  22. Try exiting the hall and coming back
  23. I disagree that Mach Punch is useless. Priority moves are always useful, it's saved me quite a few times from getting set-up swept. Punishment, on the other hand, won't even do more damage than Stab Flare Blitz in most circumstances, even if it's super effective the opponent needs at least 2 boosts for punishment to be the better alternative. Also, there are very few Psychic and Ghost pokemon who have fire resist, you could count them on your fingers.
  24. You can fight trainers with high level pokes in the Grand Hall daily (Or just switch the calendar dates) for grinding.
  25. Malamar isn't that great. Don't think TOO short term, while having an ace for a gym leader is nice, you want something that'll be useful in the long run, too. I would pick Krookodile because Dark/Ground synchronizes nicely with the rest of your team (Takes care of your big ghost/psychic weaknesses, ground coverage is nice). Mamoswine is alright but don't think you can breed icicle crash on to him yet.
