  1. As someone who decided to read the manga last week and caught up to the most recent chapter, I have to say, Gakkou Gurashi is doing this weird thing of going the same way as the manga while doing it differently. I am actually surprised at the last scene at the end of the episode as that never happened in the manga. Not to mention Taroumaru's story is completely different in the manga...
  2. That feel when a terrible and unwanted filler arc has the gall to contradict the canon. I'm looking at you, Silent Party.
  3. Nah. Railgun season 1 was littered with fan service moments because the directors decided to pad the Level Upper arc like crazy. There was also a crapton of filler SOL episodes after the Level Upper Arc ended and the Poltergeist Arc which was declared semi-canon by Kamachi through a character during Volume 22 of the LNs. And then there was the terrible Silent Party Arc in Railgun S which not only spits upon the canon (especially upon the Remnants Arc for example).
  4. Here's the problem. I am a 'source material is god' type of person. That's generally because the source material for most series is closest to the author's intentions with his/her series. Let's take Touma for example. In the anime, he's a decent character. When I watched the anime, he drew me in into it and kept me going but I did not place too much investment into his character development as the anime was not showing his character development too well, instead, opting for him to be more static. This paints an impression in most people as most people will generally not read the source material. Therein lies the problem. In the novels, Touma is a very well-developed and highly dynamic character. For example, his character development in the Index Arc was about him overcoming his own self-defeating attitude (which piled up due to numerous incidents in his past such as incidents in his childhood and things like Mitsuari Ayu's suicide) and saving a person who he does not want to lose a connection to. It's a very selfish motive that is developed and solidified throughout the volume and culminates when he decides to do everything in his power to save Index. This part of his character and his development is not translated as well. Small, but important, details were never translated over to the anime. Things like the reason why Touma did not tell Index about her hood still being at his house, things like the reason why Index came back to retrieve the hood, and things like the statement that is repeated countless times in the narration of the volume, all of which could have done wonders for Touma's character development were omitted. It's a damn shame since these sort of details were what made Touma such a well-written character in the novels. I could go on and on about this but I won't. Let me touch into something different. Remember upside-down-sensei, the guy floating in the tube? What was his name? Aleister Crowley. This guy is based off the man behind the belief system known as Thelema and a lot of this series has a huge connection to that system such as 'The Book of the Law', Aiwass's appearance, and the mention of the Aeons of Osiris and Horus. The central tenet of Thelema, "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law", is actually a very centralized theme throughout the entire series and can be shown to have been applied to the developments of all of the main characters: Touma, Accelerator, and Hamazura. As to how...I'm not giving it away that easily. You should have some fun connecting the dots on your own. As you can see, the anime had a lot of shortcomings as an adaptation. While a novel isn't on a time crunch to be read, it is on a time crunch to be produced. Though, given how much Kamachi writes (for the past two or three years, he's been churning out a new volume a month), I wonder if he even actually feels the time crunch. Ehh...Railgun had fillers...while the original Railgun I can...somewhat...excuse as they did not have enough source material to work with at times, Railgun S had no excuse because there was an ample amount of source material at that point in time... That being said...I'm still waiting on Index Season 3. There are 20+ Light novel volumes of Index that remain unadapted (excluding the side story volumes like the Kanzaki SS and the Necessarius SS). Some day...some day. But for now, New Testament Volume 14 hype~
  5. The always energetic Leivinia stood up first and introduced herself. "I'm Leivinia Brunel and I hail from Ruwella and Vaizen. I come from the 12th Team of the Air Armaments Service and hope to eventually become an Enforcer." She then held up Severing Spark's sealed form. "This is Severing Spark, my device." "Pleased to make your acquaintance." The device spoke in the voice of a young girl. "Her device form is a set of dual blades. I use the Modern Belka system and focus mainly on close to mid-range combat. My mana conversion affinity is lightning." She paused for a a few seconds and put her index finger over her mouth before putting her hands back down and giving a huge grin. "…and I think that's it. It's a pleasure to meet you all." She sat back down after finishing her self-introductions and waited for the others to do theirs. In the meantime, she would shoot a subtle glance at the admiral in her peripheral vision every so often. She was curious about what kind of person that Enforcer's older brother was.
  6. That feel when an author sinks a ship that he built up incredibly well to the point where I've begun rooting for it (and I don't root for ships normally) Othinus T_T Misaki T_T
  7. That moment when it is announced that a certain set of characters is to be featured in the next volume right after you finish writing a fan fiction about said set of characters. Do I have the magical power to influence the future of the canon with my fanfics?

i'm kidnapping you and forcing you to write PMMM and Firefly fanfiction

  8. Long Arch. Leivinia could not help be impressed by the size of the building. Even through she had seen many large buildings whenever she went to Cranagan for days off, the scenery of the facilities was still impressive. She had even seen the training area off on the side in her peripheral vision before she entered. But that was not all that made the girl excited. Long Arch was the former headquarters or the Riot Force 6 which played an instrumental role in the ending of the Sankt Kaiser's Cradle Incident. Apparently, it seemed to have been pretty well-maintained despite the fact that Riot Force 6 had disbanded some time after the Sankt Kaiser's Cradle Incident. She was too excited to even pay attention to the other members. After she took a seat, she picked Severing Spark up off where it was swaying back and forth over the chest of her AAS uniform. "This is pretty exciting, wouldn't you agree, Severing Spark?" "Quite, milady."
  9. Alright. Real talk here, for a second. You know who is an awesome girl? Othinus from ToAru. Why is that? Well, let's say this part of the character design notes should explain a small part of it.
  10. “I will protect you even if I make an enemy of the world.” Such a cliche and overused line until the character who says it actually follows through with it, in which case it becomes incredibly freaking powerful.

Well, after Touma said that, he fought Thor, the USA, Accelerator, the Catholic Church, Two independent Saints, Great Britain, Russia, and more…

      So yeah...

Well, the character I spoke of never actually said the words, but he has already followed through on them... The world kinda hates him.

  13. From that site. I came into the LNs some time while I was watching Season 2 back when it was airing in 2011. The site above was at the time translating the volumes bit by bit and were on Volume 13 (the latter half of the Academy City Invasion Arc) when I started to try reading the novels. They were fast enough that they were always ahead of the anime though the translations were rough in the beginning. Afterwards, a certain person by the name of js06 began translating the novels and translated the entirety of the series up to that point by mid-July, before NT02's release. The site's translations even got more refined overall afterwards. Once NT02 was released and onwards, the volumes would be translated very quickly and were always hosted on that site. Of course, these translations were and still are top-notch. While all of the Old Testament volume translations (1-22+SS1-2) have been removed from the site due to Yen Press licensing the series, pdfs of those volumes are floating around the internet *wink**wink*. All of the New Testament volumes and supplementary side story volumes are all still on the site, fully translated though. EDIT: AHHH! Mini-teaser's out for the next volume and the Birdway Sisters are going to play a key role! Both Leivinia and Patricia! Literally two days after I finish writing a fic about the two sisters XD I am psyched~ NT14 Preview
  14. 9/10 Better but still feels a bit on the small end...
  15. I say do it. Going back and reading everything properly is a good idea. The universe created by this series quite wide and expansive that reading the novels from the beginning would give you a much better understanding of it and the characters who inhabit it. You will be glad you did so~
  16. You missed what I was trying to say. http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Toaru_Majutsu_no_Index:NT_Volume6_Chapter7#Part_12 Go back to that and you'll see what I meant.
  17. Are you sure that's the Number 2? Accelerator does not consider him to be the Number 2~ But, guys. If you ever have the time, read the first two volumes of the Light Novels. I guarantee that you'll see the first two arcs of the series in a different light if you do so.
  18. 8/10 Would be perfect if not for size~ EDIT: Dammit, Ninja'd. 10/10 again~
