  4. ✗Story✗ 800 years ago, Remnant was overrun by the creatures of Grimm when its inhabitants were defeated at the Battle of Sword Valley. The people of Remnant were forced to retreat into small colonies to protect themselves. To defend themselves from attack, the colonies trained Blades, hunters of the Grimm. But while most attempted to strike back against the Grimm, Colony 9 isolated itself, building high walls and keeping its Blades back to defend against attacks. This strategy kept Colony 9's Blades alive and well, leading to a safe and prosperous life. But recently the Grimm's attacks have become more frequent and intense, threatening Colony 9's delicate peace. Many of its people have begun to wonder if hiding behind their walls can keep them safe forever. The appearance of a wounded woman from Colony 6 outside the wall escalates things. Before she passes out from injury, she pleads for the people of Colony 9 to send help to Colony 6 before it's overrun by Grimm. After nearly a week of deliberation, Colony 9 finally agrees to send the woman back with the assistance of several Blades. This is where you come in. You weren't chosen because you were the best, more likely you were picked because you're an acceptable loss, but you're damn well going to do your best out there. ✗Setting✗ The RP is set in the world of Remnant, which is divided into five regions with distinct geography. Vale is largely plains, Vacuo mountains and rocky desert, Mistral jungle and swampland, Mantle large swaths of white sand and strange plantlife, and Atlus a mix of frozen ice and fiery volcanoes. In the distant past, the people of Remnant were quite advanced, but the Grimm's destruction and the wears of time have made such things long forgotten. Only the crafting of weapons retains any semblance of former technological glory. What technology there is relies on Ether, a magical substance that can be mined from crystal deposits and used for a variety of applications. ✗Map Movement✗ The map is set up on a hex grid. When moving between two previously explored areas, you can fast travel freely. To explore a new hex, you must move to an adjacent hex and attempt to move into the unexplored hex by giving the direction you wish to explore (north, northeast, southeast, south, southwest, northwest). Assuming there are no obstacles, you will move into the hex and it will be revealed on the map. Sometimes (I.E. when I feel it's a good idea) an encounter will trigger, resulting in either combat or an interaction with an NPC who will provide information or perhaps give a quest. Some encounters will persist and be revisited by travelling to their hex. At the beginning of each post, please place you name, the region you're currently in, and what hex of that region you're occupying. If you're fast travelling or attempting to explore a new hex, please include this movement as well. When in a group, any member attempting to explore a new hex will count as all members doing so. Fast travel must be executed individually, with some exceptions upon request and occasionally for story movement. Due to the frequency and potential tedium of travel, you are not required to include actual writing in travel posts. Some hexes will contain powerful enemies known as Tyrants. When attempting to explore a hex with a tyrant, the hex will be revealed but you will not be moved immediately. Instead, a run check will be performed with two copies of your run dice. If successful, you will remain hidden in the hex you began in. Otherwise you will be moved and placed into combat with the Tyrant. Use an active Semblance - Activates the character's Semblance, executing its effect. Switch Form - Changes the weapon to a selected form, causing subsequent Basic Attacks to use that form. Activate Overdrive - Places the character into Overdrive, doubling their weapon stats but causing them to take 33% of their max HP in damage every turn. They cannot be healed by allies during the effect. Soul Voice - Heals an ally for your Ether stat. Pass - Gives up the current turn to increase initiative by 1. Run - Attempts to escape the fight, if successful, all allies escape. I seem to have just made my 4200th post a moment ago (this'll be 4201 and ruin it owo), and seeing as it's vaguely reminiscent of a meme I sort of like, I decided to pretend it's an important milestone. So seeing as I now understand the meaning of a hundred lives, I thought I might allow you plebians to tap my nigh-infinite wisdom by asking me random stupid internet questions. Plus by making an AMA there's like an 80% I'll start an AMA train and annoy everyone, which is Pmuch my sole purpose in life.

She was on her phone, but the instant she saw Arya and Natalie, she ended to call and rushed over. She embraced Natalie tightly, tears rushing down her face. "Oh Natalie I was so worried and I'm so glad you're okay! I don't know what I would have done if the Inquisitor had hurt you. I sent help right away but Syv wasn't able to warn me until Kindle was already here and I was so scared until I got your text. And then I was still scared because you didn't say if you were okay and what if-" "Mom!" Natalie had tried to interrupt several times; finally succeeding. "You're embarrassing me in front of my girlfriend." "Oh, sorry." Mother Opium released Natalie, smoothed out her dress, and wiped her eyes. "Hello Arya. It seems we have a lot to discuss." Though Arya wouldn't be able to pick up on it, Natalie could tell her mother was surprised. It seemed she wasn't quite all-knowing.

  9. Interest is good, so I'll be stepping up work on the OOC, no ETA just yet. Some mechanics stuff: Overdrive is gonna be a little more restricted, haven't settled on how Arts CDs are gonna be a little longer than the current examples Health is going to have some sort of natural damage reduction on it as well as increasing HP. I'm looking at 5% per 10 points but might go for a flat reduction instead. If I go the percentage route, there would be a max reduction, like 70 or 80% Setting/story stuff: Current plan is for Homs to have been a dominant force on Remnant with Grimm being an inconvenience more than a threat but then things occured and they turned into one. Homs were forced into small, isolated colonies and had to scavenge for resources. Colony 9, where the PCs are from, went the furthest into isolation, closing itself off from the world almost entirely. Only when truly desperate for resources would they send hunters outside the colony. Instead of trying to beat back the Grimm, they focused on defenses and survival. Where other colonies' hunters risked their lives to fight the Grimm at every turn, Colony 9's only went out when necessary and didn't take risks, keeping their numbers up and allowing them to better defend from attacks. But as the other colonies grow weaker, the Grimm shift their attention to Colony 9. Her unwavering defense may soon break, and the throes of desperation cause her to take a stand against the creatures of Grimm or face destruction. EDIT: Oh, and expect Nopon, Wrothians/Faunus (half-Wrothian, half-human. So just cat Faunus), and High Entia to exist. Potentially Ma-non as well if I can justify the existence of pizza. Colony 9 will have a Wrothian/Faunus presence. So you can play a warrior-cat person or a catgirl if you like.

  13. Natalie Natalie looked down at the knives and back to Arya. "I have no idea." She answered. She couldn't think about it too much, it was just to crazy. If she tried to process what just happened she would probably pass out from shock. Instead she headed for the main door, leading Arya towards their visit with her mother. Haley Haley hadn't lasted long on the field, being taken out pretty rapidly and letting the other girls get back in first. Despite this, her team had a pretty handy lead. Cici hadn't so much as glanced away from her game, but she had still effortlessly dodged every ball that flew her way. Sharp was proving to be quite the athlete, launching balls with an intense fury. Lilith was a small enough presence to avoid notice in her corner. The other Laylite that Haley didn't know were collectively average, one constantly being hit and requiring retrieval, but the other managing to hold her own. The other team wasn't doing near as well. The unknowns were easily disposed of, Naya hadn't even tried, Esyllt's wish had been granted by Sharp, and Lexi's aggressiveness had gotten her a dodgeball to the knee. Riley was completely focused on Kaede, almost entirely refusing to target anyone else. Haley wasn't sure how that had happened. She still had no clue what was up with Kaede, and Riley didn't seem the type to go after someone without a reason. Kindle Kindle sat against the wall that she'd burnt the elderly teacher's innards to, her own innards spilling over her chest and legs. The pain was gone, replaced by a dull numbness. Her fingers ached with a need to scratch at her chest more, which she unwillingly obliged despite the stings of renewed pain it brought. A figure approached her from the nearby treeline, a figure she knew quite well. "Katherine." She said with a half-chuckle. "Inquisitor." Katherine replied. "Here to finish me off?" "You know better than that." Katherine extended her hand and a bubble of orange energy formed around Kindle. Her wound began to close up, though the aching in her fingers refused to quit. "I'm surprised Arya was able to do such a number on you." "Arya? The pet? She didn't do this. Some upside-down, straw-hat freak snapped her fingers and everything went to hell." Katherine raised an eyebrow at that, it seemed she knew something Kindle didn't. "If she hadn't, I would have intervened." "Please, the pet would be long past dead by now." Kindle decided not to push the matter, she was at Katherine's mercy and didn't want to push her luck. "I'm sure it would have worked out." "Whatever, are you almost done?" "I'm finished." The shield vanished. Kindle used her scythe to push herself up. Her achy fingers wound their way to her exposed and bloodied chest, mindlessly scratching at it. "Thanks for that, Katherine." "You could stay." Katherine said, almost pleading. "Stay? Here? With you?" "We used to be friends." "Friends? Maybe. But I'm not the one who betrayed the church. And I don't intend to be." Kindle started to storm past Katherine, but Katherine reached out to stop her. "Kindle, please." "Katherine, one of your allies is a rotting corpse four feet away from you. I did that. There is no 'please' between us." Katherine opened her mouth to say something, but shut it again. She lowered her arm and let Kindle past.
  14. Welp, two of three people liked this idea better, so I'm doing this. The short of this is that it's based on the Xenoblade Chronicles games and the RWBY webseries (both of which you should check out if you haven't). It only takes inspiration and is not intended to be a part of either series directly. While it will make nods to them and uses various ideas from them, knowledge of them is not required to participate. The following will primarily cover mechanics, as I haven't yet settled on the details of the setting or story, though I will cover the very basics of those very momentarily. ~Setting & Story Basics~ The world will be split up into several large biomes each with a distinct theme. They'll be filled with monsters called Grimm and very dangerous to traverse for the unprepared. The players will not be unprepared however, participating in the RP as hunters or huntresses whose job it is to clear out Grimm, protect others, and explore the land in hopes of finding a way to stop the Grimm and secure a future for Homs on Remnant. Aside from Grimm, there are many environmental dangers, as well as hunters from other groups who may try to fight the players for the land's scarce resources. ~Map Movement~ In addition to being split into biomes, the world will be cut into smaller segments. Players will be required to move from segment to segment when traversing the map. Each segment will have an event of some kind (often combat) that must be cleared to progress. Most segments will be permanently cleared after one go, but some may be more persistent. Sometimes a segment will have useful resources available or serve as a landmark of some kind. ~Combat Mechanics~ Combat will be turn-based, focusing on strategic application of characters' abilities. Each character will have two sets of stats, one for themselves and one for their currently equipped weapon. Character stats will be focused on defense whilst weapons will serve to dictate offense. At the start, characters have 30 stat points to distribute and weapons have 60, extra points can be gained by defeating Tyrants (bosses). Characters also come with access to a special ability called a Semblance. Weapons may have up to three forms, each with a unique set of stats and their own abilities called Arts. In addition to Arts and Semblances (which I'll get into slightly later), there are three actions that every character has access to: Basic Attack: Performs a basic attack using a weapon's stats. Form Switch: Changes to a selected alternate form. Automatically activates when using a form's Art. Overdrive: Places the character into Overdrive, doubling their weapon stats at the cost of 20% HP each turn. May be activated as a free action and cannot be deactivated. Character Stats HP: 30+3Health Health: Increases max HP by 3 for each point. Dodge: Lowers the Hit of incoming attacks by 1 for each point. Minimum of 2. Ether: Recovers 1 HP for each point every time you Attack. Semblance: A powerful ability unique to the character, can be either passive or active. Some Semblances may be activated for free. Weapon Stats Type: Melee, Ranged, or Magic Power: Deals 1 damage for each point per hit. Hit: Increases the number of hits for every 10 Hit, the remainder is rolled against a d10 for a potential extra hit. Crit: Rolled against a d100 every hit for a chance at dealing triple damage. Crit past 100 is useless. Art: An activated ability unique to this weapons form. Can be an attack, debuff, or buff. Using an Art automatically changes their weapon's form to the one the art is tied to, causing following Basic Attacks to use that weapon's stats. Standard Buffs and Debuffs You're free to code your own effects, but these are a few standard ones so not all of them have to be cooked up. Also, feel free to screw with scalings or whatever. Still, me being a picky twat that's still playing games from 2013 doesn't change the fact that a lot of great stuff happened this year in the gaming world.
