  1. I'm sure the praises of this quest have been sung to death but I finished this last night and it is definitely one of my favorite quests so far. Not sure if it tops Desert adventures with Taka but it is close.

The characters it spotlights are all fantastic. I loved getting the chance to finally battle Ame and battling Heather's mom was an unexpected surprise that makes me sad how different it could have been. Elias regretting his decisions and the dinner hurt so much.

When I first saw Taube I was pretty confused as to what was happening. But as it slowly sank in who he was my heart was breaking. Then, seeing Elias talk about the Alcantara line ending and voicing everything I was thinking. It was the closest I've gotten in this game to tearing up. (There aren't many pieces of Media that have done that).

Then coming from that tragedy at the beginning to the best Champion ever! I am very biased toward bug types and I'm so happy how Shelly was handled the entire game. Good for her! I felt bad for defeating her but I'd happily just let the game make Shelly the champ if I were able. I also loved how Titania was her mentor after showing how much respect she was gaining from Saphira and Titania in the last few episodes.

Thanks to everyone who worked on this. This continues to be one of my favorite games of all time and I'm excited for the rest of the post game!

  2. I'm not sure what you expect a guy to do when you ask him to go do a boss battle that is stacked against him and he can't win without a well thought out strategy on a field he has never seen before now. Also if he loses then he loses a team member. Reading a description is not the same as actually battling on a field. Similar to how reading about or watching VGC battles won't make you good at VGC.

What else would he do other than use the one strat that has worked for him so far.

What would you guys say is the worse/hardest puzzle in reborn optional or mandatory

for me it was that magic squares puzzle you gotta do to get the darkinium z and gardevoirite that I only ever did with a walkthrough

Magic Square is the worst. A lot of puzzles in this game make clever use of new or existing mechanics. Or they incorporate the Pokemon in that environment in fun ways. This puzzle is neither. it is just you trying to solve a number puzzle with very limited controls. The controls are probably the hardest part of the puzzle.

The hardest puzzle, I'm not sure. Finding Beldum is still the puzzle that would be the most difficult to solve on your own since you really need to think outside the box. Once you know what to do it isnt so bad

Hardest mandatory puzzle is still shellys books imo

  4. I like the weakest link system. It forces him to change his team up when it under performs. I've seen too many playthroughs of Pokemon where people beat their head against a wall with the same team against the same boss until they either win by luck or they trick the AI into letting them win. Just because they don't want to grind a new member of the team up to level 70.

I'm glad TTar is willing to grind and keeps the battles fresh on each try.

  5. Spoiler

So, I was just thinking about the monstrous 3 part battle from this episode. It is by far the most difficult challenge the game offers. It is the ultimate wall to overcome thus far. However, I can never help but feel that it isn't satisfying as it should be.

Let me compare it to a gauntlet that I feel is near perfect. The Fiore Mansion Raid. In this gauntlet you are in an all out fort defense against Team Meteor. You are in a double battle teaming up with gym leaders to take on the following

    1. Meteor Grunts - A warmup battle for variety and to "wear you down". Granted you are healed after the battle, but from a story perspective it make sense.

    2. Fern and Blake (the trolls) - Two characters who share a chemistry of being the guys you love to hate. They are well established as formidable foes. Fern, being the one rival who has managed to keep on par with you, and Blake, who you battled not too long ago. This battle is satisfying. You get to take these two down and puts them in their place.

    3. Solaris and John - The long awaited rematch with Team Meteor's leader and his dreaded Garchomp. This ending is bitter sweet and makes you itch for the one-on-one battle that finally takes place in this episode. It seems like John is just there to attempt to even the playing field since you have a team mate as well. But he is just there to deny your long-awaited 1v1 against team Meteor's "Leader?" and Solaris later states that it held him back. This battle leaves you wanting more and pushes you to want to keep playing.

Now let's list off the gauntlet participants in this episode.

    1. Shelly and Cain - Both of these characters have had prominent roles in the game and have proven to able to pull their weight just fine. They both recognize you as a superior battler and their team is really the only way they could be a challenge to you at this point. 6 on 12 proves to be challenging but not impossible. This I feel is the one match in the guantlet that works.

    2. Mystery battle 1 (Luna) - We haven't seen her since in the Valley but she's back and has diversified her team. She serves the purpose of softening you up for the next battle.

    3. Mystery battle 2 (Radomus and Serra) - Two more characters we haven't seen in a while. But they team up to provide one last push to take you down. Both are likeable characters and Radomus definitely needed more screen-time to close up his story arc. Yet a battle against him and Serra just feels so out of place.

Right off the bat we can see that this battle seems to be stacked against you. You need to take down 30 pokemon in a row. Each one with similar levels to your own team. However, many of these characters have been absent for a while and have been reintroduced to the story so suddenly. Especially Serra, who as far as we know has just been in her gym until now. Now I love myself a challenge. But there is a lack of emotional impact here when compared to the Fiore mansion raid. Much of the difficulty in this battle feels undeserved. When did Radomus and Serra get so strong? Granted we have had 2 v 1 battles before like with you and Cain vs Sigmund or Sirius. In these scenarios I always imagine that their team's levels are artificially lowered to simulate their disadvantage of being in a 2 v 1 battle. So I could see Radomus and Serra getting a decent power boost on their end since it is 1 v 2 versus you now. But then why in Luna so strong? These people don't seem like they should be as much of a challenge as Cain and Shelly who have been on the front lines alongside you. So when you get wrecked by them over and over it is frustrating.

However, imagine if this battle went a different way. Imagine if everyone's pokemon were maybe 5-8 levels lower. In this scenario the fights would still be slightly challenging. But the odds would be in your favor. Does this ruin the difficulty. Absolutely. No question. But it serves a different purpose. This would change from just another difficult battle into a show of growth. You are sitting here and showing just why you are one of the top players in this region. You feel like a wrecking ball going through all these gym leaders like they're nothing. Remember when Amaria had that one awesome moment where she took on like 15 grunts at once? Well, this wouldn't be quite like that but man it would be so satisfying.

This would also help with another issue that I feel plagues this episode. It would shift the attention from the gauntlet as the ultimate challenge and bring focus back to Solaris and Hardy. To opponents who have been hyped up for a long long time and are unfortunately overshadowed by the gauntlet. Because honestly, battling Solaris after that gauntlet was like a breath of fresh air. All of his hype and intimidation are nearly gone because you are just glad you don't have to fight 30 pokemon in a row again. Making the gauntlet easier would help keep up the hype that he deserves as team meteor's "leader?".

So, okay I'm glad I finally got that out of my system. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this! I can't wait for the final episode and I will be on the edge of my seat until it is out. This is one of my favorite games ever and I just want the Devs to know the only reason I would make a rant like this is because I am a huge fan of all their hard work. I can only write rants like this because you all give me so much to dig into and think about!

  6. Spoiler

    Used a mono-rock team.

Battle 1: Tailwind Aerodactyl and Archeops rock slide almost everything to death.

Battle 2: Kind of a team effort taking advantage of sturdy golem and bulky mons like aggron and T-tar. Keeping fainted mons alive with Revives.

Battle 3: Aggron and T-Tar nearly swept. Sand Storm provided great SDef boosts and I focused down on Serra first. Radomus's lead Clefable couldn't touch my leads while I swept Serra. Radomus had some tough mons like Metagross but he couldn't handle a 2 on 1 battle.

  7. Spoiler

I was told to go to the "control center" by Hardy right when I got to Calcenon. Pretty sure he meant where Eclipse got Chandelure'd. Saw Charlotte on my way there. She mentioned how she dragged Saphira out of there.

I went to the "control center". There was no one there, so I'm a little lost already somehow.

  8. With how good Nappy has been doing I think they are set. They past the Shelly threshold as well. With Nappy tracking down all the encounters and everyone having a nice diverse team I doubt that even Charlotte or Titania can sweep every one of them. And as long as one survives the Locke continiues.

She needs us, obviously. Or uses us, that's why Lin didn't get us killed earlier in one of the many opportunities, not to mention letting us grow stronger. Maybe there is some ''magic'' in these stones preventing her from taking them on her own, maybe she needs a rival too (you know, ''the balance'' stuff, she has to have an equal enemy that she will beat or sacrifice, or she just wants to have a fair fight for once. Who knows.) or she needs us for some another magic trick that wouldn't allow her into the Arceus's domain alone - with this being the most probable.

    Lin is officially Aizen confirmed.

Master planner, grooming the trainer to be strong enough to test her ultimate power, then ends up losing to said trainer.

Well yeah there are some people who actually says that this game is unfair actually, what they don't know is that if you read a little you can do better at the gyms, all of us had struggles against a gym leader when we played for the first (I fought Julia with a frogadier and an espurr) this game is not hard actually it has a medium difficulty if you use your brain

I love the field effects as much as the next guy but I have to admit they need some tweaking. The start with the factory field is a great way to show off effects. Giving the player a guide is also a great idea. But then I start hitting some concerns.

The field guide is great, but it is still just a guide. You can't really do anything too elaborate to prepare without experiencing the effect first hand and practicing on it.

Shelly and Amaria both have well established fields in the game that by the time you get there you know what you are facing. Radomus, Aya and Luna use the gym itself or the area around the gym to prep you for what's to come. Luna can even have her field changed to other more familiar fields to give you an advantage. There is a ton of good game design here and it helps immerse the player and provide a challenge.

But the first three gyms somehow fall short of this. In each gym you are faced with a leader with an entirely new field you have no experience playing in. The player has to learn on the spot and it is asking a little much. Knowing pin missile does more in Desert doesn't mean much until you actually see how well florina uses it and how it can wreck her team. This is repeated later on with Adrien where you are thrown into the fairy tale field and proceed to get wrecked without a steel type.

This game needs a field training area or something. A way to practice with these fields. Even if it's only available once you get their entry in the field effect guide. I've mentioned before in the trainers school there are battle arenas set up already which you be perfect to foreshadow some later gyms. But they are just the generic standard arena with no field effect.
