TTG Discord

(TTG is here, I'm not going to bother re-covering the world info. Also I promise TPoS revive is on the way at some point, mostly waiting for BDB to cycle to the second dream)

Tempest, the place where mortals can become gods. The people of Tempest strive to become weaklings, gods who are nothing more than celebrities with flashy weapons. But there exist many groups who know this folly and strive to overcome it. They are few, and they are small, but they are there. The most secretive of all these groups, moreso than even the fringe science groups, is the Round Table. The Round Table is a collection of mages led by the idiosyncratic Merlin, they seek to protect the existence of magic in Tempest from those who use the idiotic mech system to falsify their actual power. Unfortunately, this false power they reject is actually a lot stronger than any mage, so they remain hidden until such a time as they can overcome this power discrepancy. But remaining hidden may no longer be feasible. The Tenth God's appearance has sent many secret societies into disarray, and the Round Table is among them. In the chaos, a member of the Table defected to a science group and has been working with this group to combine mech and magic into one system. Not only does this risk exposing the Table to the rest of Tempest, but the defector is now better at go fish than Merlin, which is totally not fair. And also heresy, thus the term "witch." In the interest of protecting the Table, Merlin has decided to send a group of her most trusted allies to retrieve the Witch and destroy the scientist's research.

This RP will be about that group.

~Magic~

Unlike mech users, mages do not get a suit of special armor to protect them and channel their power and must rely entirely on maintaining control in the moment. Mages rarely accumulate large amount of static Favor, as holding it is dangerous, and must thus find way of generating fluid Favor to maintain their powers. There are several schools of magic based on casting method, but mages are not restricted to learning magic within their school. So to keep track of relative power levels in each ability, the Round Table keeps a written record of what each member can do. There will be more information on this in the system and character creation area. Note that you can't control an entire "element" with a single statistic, pyrokinesis and pyrogenesis are completely different, for example.

Casting: Simple to understand, this is how quickly a mage can cast their spells

Concentration: The ability of a mage to maintain their concentration when casting. More concentration means more powerful spells

Guarding: The ability to cast shields, illusions, and other defensive spells. Also covers your general defense field, a force field

Manipulation: The ability of a mage to effect things that already exist. Telekinesis, telepathy, reality warping, weather manipulation, etc
Conjuring: The ability of a mage to create magical effects separate from reality. Fireballs and other elemental magics,

Supreme Aether: A powerful ability usually designated as an attack. A mage can trigger it by speaking the activation phrase when certain conditions are met. Not all mages spend the time to study and learn an Aether; it's a rather time consuming task and takes away from their other studies, and mages don't expect to be in combat very often

Spark Ability: An ability more or less unique to each mage. A mage gains this ability upon casting their first spell, although it may be hard to discover what it is. Sparks usually fit the mage's personality or interests, and often solidify the path a mage wishes to take in their magic

The schools are as follows:

Natural: A simple school of magic focused on casting quickly and easily by internalizing and visualizing the effects of spells. Studying this school is good for Casting and Concentration

Psychic: A school focused around manipulating the physical world using the mind. Studying this school is good for Casting and Manipulation

Incantation: The school of incantation uses, well, incantations to cast their spells. It's often a slow process (Although fireball! is a popular spell). Studying this school is good for Conjuring and Concentration

Summoning: A school that focuses on creating artificial allies, mindless automatons such as golems that will do your bidding. Studying this school is good for Casting and Guarding

Meditation: A school focused on maintaining focus. Studying this school is extremely good for Concentration and Guarding

~Rules~

  1. Keep calm. Things won't always go your way, don't freak out
  2. No metagaming. Your characters know very little about each other outside a few gatherings of the Table, a rather uncommon occurrence
  3. Try to keep Suism to a minimum. Instead of the default "no Sues" I'm going to keep in mind that Suism is a fluid concept and that there's no line where things go from "not-Sue" to "Sue." So instead, just try to keep yoursuelf in check. I'll certainly let you know if you go overboard
  4. No godmodding, powerplaying, and etc. The other generic RP taboos. Just because I'm not going out of my way to explain them doesn't mean you should do them
  5. GO FISH I mean, um, have fun and stuff

~System and Sheet~

I'm going to half port TTG's system and half port BDB's system. The former is a system used purely for comparison and reliant on RP. The other uses rolls as a success/failure device but not a hard and fast code. But most importantly, there will be a growth system (which is present in TTG but doesn't get used since TTG is built around max power already) Since mages use five stats instead of four, they get more variance in stats. However their stats are worth less (TTG max stats is 17, TFW maxes at 21) and they have much more trouble generating them

Anemone

Forum Name: Hukuna The Undying

Character Name: Leslie Asterlace
Alias: Anemone ((as in the flower.))
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Appearance: Leslie has hair that is a deep purple. It appears almost devoid of colour, closer to black but on inspection, is in fact purple. She almost always wears it a ponytail. She is rather short, only barely scraping over 5 ft tall. She looks quite a bit younger than her true age ((which has caused her issues in the past.)) she wears a purple hoodie over top of bright yellow jeans.

Personality: A rather flighty girl, Leslie never seems to be all quite there. She seems rather passive outwardly, however she is simply… observing. She’ll typically respond to people if they engage in conversation with her, though she won’t pay 100% attention. She isn’t shy or even afraid of talking to other people, she even does it on occasion. Some have said one can tell her mood by looking at her ponytail.

Motivation: Magic, just came natural. It flowed to Leslie without a second thought. It ended up being her inevitable path in life. As for dealing with Merlin, Anemone is hardly bothered by her. Her aspects that might be found more annoying to others tend to just graze off Anemone. Anemone’s passive observing, tends to allow her to pay attention, without paying all that much attention. She also has a pretty face that’s nice to look at. ~~((and anemone totally isn’t looking at anything else… nope. Not at all.))~~

Stats:
Casting: 2, Having no particular focus in magic, Anemone has not practiced any type of magic thoroughly enough to cast them extremely quickly.
Concentration: 6, Anemone has a great ability in observing, which translates to concentrating as a result. It is the main focus of her casting style. She makes up for her general skill in nearly all other areas by being able to crank their output through the roof when needed. She tends to have a rather adaptable style using spells that match the moment.
Guarding: 2 Read Dat ^
Manipulation: 2  Read Dat^^
Conjuring: 2 Read Dat ^^^
Supreme Aether:  N/A
Spark Ability: Anemone has the ability of Truesight, She can see through any type of magic, and discern its true nature. She can detect and feel magic even through walls or floors in a building. As a result of this power however, Anemone cannot make use of Illusions herself as she cannot comprehend them to cast them.
Primary School: Meditation: Can meditate, increasing Concentration while doing so.

Other: Is extremely fond of people watching. Can be easily bribed with food, especially pastries.

Bellona

Forum Name: Zoe_Walker (Changing to DragonRage as soon as I am allowed to)

Character Name:  Reijah
Alias:  Bellona
Age: 22
Gender:  Female

Appearance:  Bellona is a skinny, petite, unimposing twig of a young woman.  She is moderately attractive, but unlikely to attract a lot of attention.  Brown hair and an indeterminate ethnicity complete the picture of a very average person who finds it easy to blend into a crowd.

Personality:  Bellona is generally quiet, polite, and unassertive.  She likes to stay out of people’s way, and may go along with others even if she doesn’t agree with them to avoid conflict.  She will speak up if she feels strongly about it, but generally tries to keep as far away from anything that might rile her up as possible.  She isn’t naturally like this, but ever since she cast her first spell, she’s had some… unique challenges.

Motivation:  Bellona doesn’t really have a choice about studying magic.  Even if she’s not especially fond of it, it really, really likes her.  From the moment she cast her first spell, her spark ability bound her to its practice, and by mastering magic she hopes to master herself as well.

Stats:  (14)
·       Casting:  1.  Bellona is not a particularly efficient caster, and doesn't cast spells especially quickly.
·       Concentration:  3.  Bellona's spark has made it difficult to practice this, although she does value it.
·       Guarding:  3. Bellona is better-suited to attack than defense, but her telekinetic barriers, flight, and speed enhancement make her extremely hard to hit if she sees the attack coming.  And if it actually does make contact, well, that’s when things get interesting.
·       Manipulation:  7. Bellona’s telekinetic magic is very strong.  She can lift and move around very heavy objects, crush and reshape things according to her will, punch people over buildings, etc.
·       Conjuring:  0.  Bellona has zero ability to conjure anything.
·       Supreme Aether:  None.  Bellona might like to have one at somepoint, but she does not have one right now.
·       Spark Ability:  Spellrage - Bellona has the ability to convert anger into magical power.  When enraged, most commonly by physical injury, her telekinetic powers get much stronger, at the expense of other useful things like strategic thinking and caution.  When Bellona's Spellrage is triggered, she gets +3 to Guarding, +X to Manipulation, and -X to concentration.  X is 1 less than her total concentration.
Primary School:  Psychic.

Feardorcha

Forum Name: cronos5010
Character Name: Peyton Westlake
Alias: Feardorcha
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Appearance: a man that definitely still has all of his pale skin in a black trenchcoat, his face is perpetually covered in gauze except for his eyes which are covered by a thick pair of aviator sunglasses whenever possible, every part of his body is covered by an article of clothing, such as his hands which are covered by cloth gloves, and while his hair is non existent; his head is often adorned by a black fedora, he carries other articles of clothing in a small briefcase.

Personality: A well aged man with a slight temper, he mostly hides his real identity using the tired excuse of him not remembering most of it, but the truth is that he simply doesn't care much about his "real" identity anymore, as he has remembered being so many different people that to him his "real" identity is just another persona to put on if it might help in the current situation, but despite everything the constants seems to be his irritablity, a larger than life and hammy tone of voice when angered, and a constantly present sense of justice.

Motivation: Revenge. Peyton had at some point in the past entered into a one man crusade against the many so called "Fringe Science" groups that use their extremely illegal and dangerous methods to endanger the populace, uncover things that men would be better off not knowing, while also harming innocent people along the way, it was in pursuit of this goal that he joined the order, believing that they would help him master his natural magical prowess and help him much more personally in his crusade, so far they have yet to fulfill the second promise enough to satisfy him, but he enjoys his membership in the order too much to simply leave for an extended sabbatical.

Peyton actually respects Merlin for her unsurprising competence, although he is disappointed at her lack of subtlety

Stats:
Casting: 6 (Peyton finds casting magic to be quite natural and prefers to spam rapid magical attacks as opposed to one large blow)
Concentration: 2 (Peyton is about average at concentrating on his spells, but he doesn't see the point in dwelling too much on a particular spell)
Guarding: 3 (Other than his almost trademarked ability to imitate another man's face and voice with perfect accuracy, he relies on a force field of favor to protect him from enemy attacks, and he has several low level illusion spells)
Manipulation: 3 (Peyton has minor telekinetic abilities and the ability to manipulate the effect of gravity on a single object slightly)
Conjuring: 0 (Peyton has no Conjuring based spells, his entire focus is on manipulating what is already there, and his focus on stealth prevents him from seeing the point in throwing a fire ball at anything)
Supreme Aether: None, Peyton has no need for a powerful, if highly telegraphed and oddly specific ability.
Spark Ability: I am everyone and no one: if Peyton has memorized a man's face, and is able to remember  their voice, he is able to perfectly imitate both features using his magical abilities.
Primary School: Natural: To Peyton, casting magic is second nature to him, almost as natural as any other man's ability to walk or talk

Ice

Forum Name: Adamance Ascendant
Character Name: Talva Kirashiki
Alias: Ice
Age: 18
Gender: Female

Appearance: A very small girl at just under 4'11" with blond hair and strikingly blue eyes. Her hair is tied into a simple waist-length braid with loose bangs, and one particularly long strand of hair doesn't ever seem to want to lie down for longer than it stays wetted down. She wears a white blouse with a navy blue skirt, with white ruffles beneath. Overtop it, she wears a black coat cut to be worn over the outfit. Her voice is high, but not particularly so, and usually kept fairly quiet, but it is quite capable of being clear and strong, which one's most likely to hear when she's doing a long incantation. (she's basically Es ok)

Personality: An efficient individual. She focuses on the task at hand first and foremost and has little tolerance for silliness or wasted time. She is rather quiet, preferring to express herself in as few words as possible - though she doesn't seem to be particularly shy. Talva often comes off as cold or, in extreme cases, heartless; she is not one to hold back criticism for the sake of others, believing that doing so is a disservice to the one being criticized. On the other face of this, she is absolutely indefatigable in the pursuit of a goal and extremely reliable.

Motivation: Her life was saved by Merlin when she was young; since then she's been utterly devoted to the mage. Not much more to it; her nigh-obsession is enough to get her to put up with things that would normally infuriate her.

Stats: [You begin with 14 stat points]

  • Casting: 3. Not particularly quick, nor particularly slow at casting. Her spells, once they come out, usually have the desired effect very quickly or instantly, though she's still working on improving her speed.
  • Concentration: 4. Ice's lack of true defensive options is compensated by her ability to maintain focus on her offensive ones for as long as needed.
  • Guarding: 1. Conjured barriers of ice work for defense in a pinch, but she lacks proper defensive spells and the ones that work as a substitute either hinder her ability to retaliate or restrict her own mobility, and are relatively fragile besides.
  • Manipulation: 0. Ice is totally worthless at modifying reality directly.
  • Conjuring: 6. Shockingly, Ice is an expert at summoning ice, usually to drop it on people or imprison them, or directly infusing opponents with it to slow them down.
  • Supreme Aether: 0. "A Supreme Aether is an inefficient usage of one's time spent studying magic when one could simply use a longer incantation."
  • Spark Ability: Overdrive. Ice can willingly degrade her own health to empower her spellcasting, boosting both power and speed, with penalties directly proportional to the amount of boost she gets. She can localize the recoil to a specific part of her body with enough focus (for example, deciding to empower the spell at the cost of damaging the muscle in her left arm to the point of uselessness), though the situations that call for the usage of this ability generally don't allow for splitting one's concentration like that.

Primary School: Incantation

Other: Definitely not yandere for Merlin at all

Exile

Forum Name: Empiricist

Character Name: Freja Leclair
Alias: Exile
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Appearance: Neatly dressed in light, loose clothing, with colors complimenting her azure eyes and her hazel hair done up in a ponytail, Freja looks shockingly normal, though knowing her it's probably all part of some odd game, seeing how long she can pass herself off as someone normal.

Personality: Capricious yet calm, industrious yet dispassionate, Freja is someone who ran out of fucks a long time ago. Acting for her own amusement, with an often tenuous grasp of circumstances, she can come off as kooky, scatterbrained, or just plain intoxicated, though none of the three are particularly true. She is, as sharp as she needs to be, or at least, as sharp as she feels like, but lacks motivation in just about everything outside of her interests, leaving her to just blurt out whatever leaps into her head, tact and details be damned.

This general detachment from everything becomes more pronounced in more, extreme, circumstances; for instance, when faced with sudden danger she reacts with bemusement or dull surprise as she cares rather little for her own actual well-being (she figures that death and other such embuggerances are inevitable one way or another), regarding self-preservation as a game of sorts, a challenge that can be awfully interesting at times, but nothing of incredible importance in and of itself.

It is when presented with a challenge, something to solve or conquer that she finds motivation, something to strive for, some reason to care.

The possibility of failure, the possibility of success, and the feeling of accomplishment at the end are what drive her. And with a sufficiently interesting challenge, especially one where there is much to gain and much to lose, even she may find herself lost in the moment.

Motivation: To Freja, magic is something worth conquering simply because it is difficult to do so. Mechs may be more reliable, and they may more powerful, but that just makes the alternative so much more interesting - there's something to aim for, a gap to close, a chance to make some manner of difference.

Yes, godhood has a nice ring to it, but versus exploring the obscure? Especially when what lies after godhood is awfully dreary.

As for Merlin, well, she just comes with the deal doesn't she? At the very least, she's a good teacher.

Stats: 14/14

  • Casting: 2. Freja's casting speed is mediocre, she prefers adapting and altering her spells quickly rather than actually casting them quickly.
  • Concentration: 4. Being so detached, Freja finds it easy to keep her cool, allowing her to concentrate more on casting.
  • Guarding: 4. Freja's specialty is in illusions with direct defenses and maneuverability spells on the peripheral. However, her Spark allows her to leverage her illusion to enhance the other two applications.
  • Manipulation: 4. Freja primarily uses manipulation to control her illusions, though she also knows basic teleportation.
  • Conjuring: 0. Freja's Spark allows her to effectively conjure without actual conjuration, hence she has not found any real need to study the school itself.
  • Supreme Aether:  0. Freja hasn't bothered to learn a Supreme Aether, not that one would suit her combat style anyhow.
  • Spark Ability: Phase Shift - Freja can turn illusions into reality and back.

Primary School: None yet. Aiming for Summoning: Summons increase Guarding while active. Requires 6 Guarding.

Other: She has recurring nightmares of being stuck in a room with Merlin.

Chernobyl

Forum Name: Sutoratosu
Name: Tamar Braixong
Alias: Chernobyl
Age: 16
Gender: Female

Appearance: A young woman standing at 5'4 with a mixed complexion and unkempt, long black locks draping down her back. Her face is oval-shaped, with a button nose and monolid eyes that burn a bright crimson as if constantly beset by unnatural light. Her canines are slightly pronounced and if one pays close enough attention, and so are the tips of the rest of teeth. She often wears distressed jeans with a simple cotton jacket and T-shirt, her hair tied back with a crimson ribbon.

Personality: Laid back and easy going, Tamar prefers to take things at her own pace, on her own time. More than anything though, what she really cares about is the ability to make her own decisions without someone constantly scrutinizing them afterwards. Fighting feels hollow to her, a pointless affair void of fulfillment ever since the days when her mother tried to get her into mechs; The whole thing might as well be some chore and if anything would prefer to spend her time either lounging or studying at her leisure.
Character Theme: Power Plant Zeta

Battle Theme:

Motivation: Even as crazy as she is, dealing with Merlin's madness is still better in Tamar's eyes than being at home and constantly listening to her mother's overbearing lectures and curfews whenever she gets into something. It was a fair trade off, really. That and she was totally shit at basic mech design anyway...so shit in fact, it actually takes legitimate talent to be so bad. And when you're that bad, people don't tend to let you live it down easily...

Stats: 14/14
Casting: 2 [The largest focus in Tamar's combat style is not in being able to get a barrier up at a moment's notice, but instead maintaining the ones she already took the time to set up. Still, while her casting time may not be terribly swift, it's not the slowest affair in the world either]
Concentration: 4 [maintaining multiple defenses at once or just keeping the one you have immediately active from collapsing under the stress of an assault requires at least a moderate degree of focus, focus Tamar has made sure not to neglect honing.]
Guarding: 6 [Tamar simply prefers letting her attackers kill themselves off the backlash and ambient radiation levels caused by her shields and Spark Ability. She additionally knows numerous warding charms to try and help mitigate the effects of assaults seeking to get around her barriers, and several illusionary charms, though she hardly uses the latter]
Manipulation: 2 [Tamar knows basic Telepathy and can manage bouts of short range teleportation with adequate rest beforehand, but beyond that doesn't know much else on reality manipulation]
Conjuring: 0 [with her general dislike for actual fighting, and the passive-aggressive style that she came to rely on thanks to her Spark, Tamar has seen very little reason to spend time studying the art of creating blasts and beams of energy that she'll never even fire in anger]
Supreme Aether:  None
Spark Ability: Chernobyl Flux
[Tamar is unable to successfully cast any form of directly offensive magic (such as blasts, explosions, fireballs, etc), however, all shields she creates take on Radioactive qualities, and when struck will immediately reflect damage back onto enemies.  The ambient radiation they give off can additionally weaken the stats of any enemy who stands in proximity (approximately 5 meters) to them for too long (approx. 1 minute or longer)]
Primary School: Summoning

Other: "Don't ask about my mother."

Sense

Forum Name: Strider
Character Name: Fletcher Norwick
Alias: Sense
Age: 17
Gender: Male

Appearance: Fletcher is quite tall, around 6'4". He is rather duck-footed, and in general looks rather ungainly. He has short blond hair that has a tendency to stand up in strange places, sometimes looking like lopsided horns. He often wears a pork-pie hat to cover up this slightly embarrassing feature. His choice in clothes is arbitrary, and usually depends on what is the most easily available, though he has a preference for clothes with buttons.

Personality: Around strangers, Fletcher tends to put on a facade of friendly exuberance, something he does this quite well. However, around close acquaintances, he is actually far more subdued. He will murmur, and sometimes mumble a fair bit around these people. This occurs for two main reasons. First, he is perfectly willing to simply exist in the company of his close friends, without having to constantly talk. He enjoys silent companionship. The second reason, however, is that he is an incredibly judgemental person internally. He is keenly aware of this fact, and works to repress it, hiding it when he can from the people he doesn't wish to show it to.

Motivation: Fletcher finds Merlin to be a fascinating person. Her strange habits, occasional fits of lunacy, and general erratic behavior just make her a more interesting and entertaining person. In addition to not minding her quirks, Fletcher respects her competence and power. He himself wishes to master magic because of the power it grants. He tells himself that he wishes to bring low the users of mechs for their arrogance in wishing to ascend to godhood, but in reality, he may be ever so slightly jealous of them.

Stats:

  • Casting: 5 Though he may seem languid and subdued among those who know him, Fletcher is mentally adept, and can cast fairly quickly. This works well in combination with his spark, as a barrage of even the most obviously unreasonable emotions can be quite strong.
  • Concentration:2 Fletcher is only mediocre with his concentration, part of the reason for his inability to plant reasons for the emotions that he creates. This might also explain why he so willingly puts up with Merlin's mercurial nature.
  • Guarding: 2 He is fairly poor at guarding, simply by nature.
  • Manipulation:5 Fletcher is fairly adept at manipulating that which he sees around him.
  • Conjuring:0 However, creating something where none existed before is something he has immense difficulty with. He is invested in the world he sees around him, and finds it difficult to imagine, and then create something entirely new.
  • Supreme Aether:  N/A He just never got one.
  • Spark Ability: Fletcher has access to limited mental manipulation. These take the form of flashes of emotion without an obvious cause in the subject's mind. He is unable to create a realistic reason for these emotions, but when combined with personal skills and circumstance this ability can be quite useful. Due to the incompleteness of this mental manipulation, those with strong willpower (concentration) find it easier to ignore the irrational emotions.

Primary School: Aiming for natural

Other: Up for a game of Go Fish whenever. Tends to slouch.

Forge

  Hide contents

Forum Name: Twinwolf

Character Name: Laura Deidra

Alias: Forge

Age: 18

Gender: Female

Appearance: Basically the image below, minus wind thingy. Laura is a shorter girl, with sort of off-white hair, and a rather slim figure - except for certain *cough* assets. She has purple-ish eyes, as well. She tends towards traditional "school" type clothing, although she does have casual clothing as well that is varied and colorful. In terms of mannerisms she rarely stays still, often twirling a finger in her hair or shifting from foot to foot when idle. When serious matters are at hand, her expression defaults to a sort of emotion-less state as she focuses on the task.

  Reveal hidden contents

sample_44ae7c705533c2314f8be35ad89e6169795e3490.jpg

Personality: Laura tends to act serious when actively on the job, but at other times - or even when working, if among friends - she will usually act rather upbeat and friendly. She is quite nosy however - “My business” and “Your business” is a blurry line to her. She's a good enough student, although tending towards scrambling to finish things at the last second.

Motivation: While Laura would quite like to gain power, she largely distrusts the mechs - she argues that because it’s a machine, it’s far too easy for one to be turned against it’s user. Her reason for wanting power is more personal - [Thousand yard stare]. She doesn't usually talk about it.

Stats: [You begin with 14 stat points] 14/14

  • Casting: 4 - A lot of Laura’s abilities rely on getting the job done quickly and accurately, being often reactive or targeted - therefore, being good at casting quickly is a must.

  • Concentration: 2 - That said, you can do quite a lot with her metal when you have the time to focus on what you want to get done.

  • Guarding: 2 - Laura summons a sort of metal-barrier, usually via converting whatever ground is in front of her into magically-strengthened metal.

  • Manipulation: 2 - Laura can screw around with metal a bit. Magnetize it, move it a bit, etc..

  • Conjuring: 4 - Laura mostly uses this to conjure and control metal. For example, make a wall to defend herself, conjure spikes to toss at the enemy, make a precision knife to cut something she can’t reach on her own, etc..

  • Supreme Aether:  Nope.

  • Spark Ability: Laura can sort of... sense, things that occur near her creations. She'll know if you step on her conjured caltrops, she'll know where you're going with that conjured disc of metal, etc..

Primary School: Not currently in one

Other: Laura is a raging (not literally) lesbian. Not that surprising given present company but nonetheless true.

Bartek

Spoiler

Forum Name: ElfCollaborator
Character Name: Oskar Kemmerich
Alias: Bartek
Age: 24
Gender: Male

Appearance: A very large man, standing tall at 6'5", a striking figure for a mage. His frame is sturdy, reminiscent more of a brick wall than a scholar. His hair is a messy nest of blonde strands, refusing to yield to the taming influence of a brush, contrasting his steely grey eyes. He wears an improvised chestplate of armor to defend himself from attack, made of random scraps of metal and leather crisscrossed across his chest in a surprisingly resilient pattern. His leggings are thick, leathery trousers, supplemented with metal boots lined with cotton to keep him warm and a large belt with several pouches strapped to it, carrying things from various knick-knacks and one waterskin full of milk, his favourite drink. His voice is deep, but not guttural, with a warm quality to it akin to the crispness of a hearthfire.

Personality: Oskar is very much loud and boisterous; the kind of man you'd find in a tavern roaring for the next round of drinks even after everyone else has long become too drunk to raise their heads instead of having his head down in a library studying forbidden arts. His boisterous nature fits well with his friendly nature; Oskar is often the one to resolve arguments or help people out. Where others criticise, Oskar encourages; where others abandon, Oskar extends a helping hand. He is protective of his allies and others, preferring in a fight to block a hit instead of retaliating. He is also quite loud in battle, his yellings tending to involve some sort of long-winded oath to deliver justice and protect the innocent. Indeed, his strong sense of justice, hamminess and friendliness makes Oskar appear to be a buffoon to others and conveniently distracts them from the very capable and intelligent mage beneath the larger-than-life exterior; despite his seeming stupidity, Oskar is very much capable of the same feats of intelligence his peers are. He also bears a keen instinct for survival especially in the lands far from civilization, borne of experience.

Character Theme: Heart of the Freljord

Battle Theme: Kagayaki

Motivation: A former mechanic whose family were once nomads of the wastelands, Oskar grew tired of seeing hardship around him and within his people. Initially, he had worked in a small band of rescuers who helped people escape the harsh wastelands when they accidentally activated some of the ancient tech from times gone past, but when these rescuers died themselves in an accident, leaving Oskar alive and alone, he decided that he would pursue the art of magic, so that others may never be hurt again on his watch

Stats: [You begin with 14 stat points]

Casting
:  2. Oskar is neither better nor worse than average at using incantations than your average mage.
Concentration: 6. Oskar is at home anywhere, whether in the heat of battle or the buzz of a pub. His ability to remain at calm in battle is thus unparalleled, allowing him to protect others with ease.
Guarding: 6. Oskar has always had an affinity for protective spells, especially those of the barrier kind, allowing him to use his magic as a bulwark upon which all else breaks.
Manipulation: 0. Telekinesis is less useful for protecting others than a giant shield-wall.
Conjuring: 0. Oskar never had time to learn to summon fireballs or anything fancy.
Supreme Aether: None. Why fix what ain't broke?
Spark Ability: Walls of Jericho: Oskar can create magical 'walls' that block things, whether they be bullets, blades, fireballs or even abstract magical concepts. These 'walls' can be of any shape or form.

Dreaming Guardian

Spoiler

Forum Name: Komodojoe
Character Name: Katrina Belle
Alias: The Dreaming Guardian
Age: 20
Gender: Female

Appearance: Standing at 5'4 with a slim build, Katrina has yellow eyes and long brown hair. Her clothing mainly consists of easy to wear stuff, mainly robes. Don't worry, she still wears her undergarments with them. She'll sometimes wear a simple t-shirt instead, but that's not often. For leg wear, she'll just wear a simple pair of sweatpants. Kat will almost always wear either slippers or sandals on her feet unless it's super cold. The one thing she wears that you'll almost always recognize is on her head, which is pretty much a witch's cap, except with two points on the top instead of one. The points are side to side and sort of resemble cat ears in shape.

Personality: Katrina might be one of the nicer people you'll meet, but she'll also be one of the laziest. She will be that one person who'll use her magic to get a glass of water she left on a table 10 feet away "just 'cause it's too far away". Among other things, she likes sleep, books, mints, drinking tea, and half-decent jokes, not to mention she might mess around with people from time to time, but only if they don't get angry about it. She also really likes cats, hence why she usually goes by her nickname "Kat", but that's neither here nor there since they're supposed to be going by their aliases. She might dislike work, but if there's one thing she really hates, it's someone who takes things too seriously. Company is supposed to be fun, not a pain in the butt. Despite her laziness, though, she does like to keep up her appearance to an extent. If you're just gonna sit around, you might as well look pretty doing it.

Motivation: You know what they say: "If you love your job, you don't have to work a day in your life". Katrina's liked the idea of using magic since she started being read those kind of bedtime stories as a kid. Like, seriously. She was almost obsessed with those stories. Then she heard this odd rumor about some girl using magic and began to investigate.

...She wasn't disappointed. Once Kat put in enough effort, she was happy to find out that the rumors were correct. It was like a dream come true. She immediately signed up and began studying magic. She apparently had quite the knack for it, too. She was pretty happy with this group despite the work she had to put in, and has been doing this ever since. Even now it was like she was living the dream that she had all those years ago.

Stats:

  • Casting: 2. The faster Kat can cast a spell, the faster she can stop doing that and get back to what she was doing. So naturally, she's trying to work on this.
  • Concentration: 1. Concentration is a lot of work. She might also have to work on this to make things easier, though.
  • Guarding: 7. Fun fact: Katrina also doesn't like pain. Then again, not many people do. And thus, she protects herself with a powerful barrier to prevent attacks from reaching her, and she can also provide a portion of said barrier to help protect others as well.
  • Manipulation: 4. Kat can do a bit of telepathy and telekinesis, but where she really shines here is using the objects around her to summon artificial creatures like familiars, golems... artificial cats, etc. and use her Spark Ability to give her summons a better form. She totally would misuse her telekinesis to get that glass of water, though.
  • Conjuring: 0. Fireballs and stuff like that are a pain in the butt.
  • Supreme Aether: None. Kat's got nothing for this right now...
  • Spark Ability: Summon's Reform. When she uses the objects around her to summon, Katrina can change the shapes of said objects to her whim, allowing her to alter and even merge objects to better suit her preference. Even steel is not safe from her power. Additionally, she can also remove unwanted materials and use an object's power source to further increase her Summon's capabilities... you know, if they have one. One thing to note, though: a lot of her summons have cat ears... What? She really likes cats.

Primary School: Summoning. Kat's too damn lazy to do a lot of the work herself, so she set out to learn how summoning works so her creations can do a lot of the job for her.

Other: She's also a pretty decent gamer. She has a pretty big range of games, but her favorites are usually RPGs and fighting games. She tends to keep a handheld on her in case things get dull and boring.

...And yes, she is one of Morgan's older sisters. For those that don't know, Morgan is one of the characters from TTG.

Merlin

Character Name: Mackenzie Cloud
Alias: Merlin
Age: 25 indefinitely
Gender: Broomstick

Appearance: A tall, light-skinned woman with red hair, green eyes, glasses, and freckles. Wears a black bikini top and a short black skirt. Her head wields a wide-brimmed and pointy black hat that folds over itself at the tip. Has a small pouch on a strap attached to her right arm which she uses to carry a deck of playing cards. Carries a wooden broomstick and has a very strange accent which gets stronger when she speaks in English

Personality: A hyperactive and eccentric young woman with altogether far, far too much time on her hands. She almost seems to have lost her mind decades ago. Were it not for occasional outbursts of sanity and her extreme competence with magic, she would probably be locked up for her own safety. Fortunately for the world, those bouts of sanity aren't random, she's still got a perfectly good head on her shoulders and can be helpful when she wants to be. She almost always seems perfectly together, if a bit distract-able, when teaching magic. But most of the time simply being in her presence is infuriating in itself

Motivation: Merlin only puts up with herself because she's stuck. If it were up to her she would kick herself in the shins and force her to learn poker. Her reasons for learning magic are unknown, and it's likely she didn't bother to remember them

Stats: (Merlin gets a full 21 because she's better than you)

  • Casting: 5. Merlin has a hefty focus on casting lots of spells very quickly, shooting out blast after blast and explosion after explosion
  • Concentration: 0. Merlin is far too hyperactive to concentrate, but luckily for her she doesn't need to.
  • Guarding: 2. Merlin mostly relies on her Favor force field to keep her from suffering bodily harm. She is also capable of flight, allowing her to avoid short ranged and grounded attacks with ease
  • Manipulation: 3. Merlin is capable of basic telekinesis and teleportation, as well as creating weak gravitational fields
  • Conjuring: 8. Merlin is a powerful conjurer capable of creating magical blasts out of virtually anything she can think of. She has a particulary affinity for explosions, and a good chunk of the things she throws at you will likely blow up. She's rather limited to a brute-force method of attacking, but makes up for it by having a whole lot of brute force
  • Supreme Aether:  Halloween Bomber - Merlin summons several black spheres with strange orange faces emblazoned in them which she then blasts at her target, causing several fiery explosions upon contact. The conditions for this Aether are, "I have them on the ropes, time to nuke them down!" Nobody is quite sure what Halloween is, but Merlin seems to be quite enamored with it
  • Spark Ability: A Wizard Did It - Merlin's special ability seems to let her cast freely without regard for concentration at all. There's a proper explanation for this, but when asked about it she simply insists that a wizard did it

Primary School:

  • Traditional: Merlin has studied traditional magic extensively, she broke it into the smaller schools to make it easier for her pupils to grow quickly by focusing on a single aspect of it. She gains a bonus to all stats except Concentration when facing any other magic users

Other: May or may not be obsessed with keeping a crappy ancient card game alive

Sister Charity

Character Name: Kayla Green
Alias: Sister Charity
Age: 16
Gender: Female

Appearance: A young girl with smooth dark skin, most of which is hidden under a catholic nun's habit with a black veil. She wears a silver cross necklace around her neck. Her eyes are charcoal black. She has silver hair, which is rather striking considering her dark skin and almost all black attire

Personality: Sister Charity has fire for a heart, full of passion and devotion to her god, and really just full of passion in general. She always puts the full of herself into everything she does. Some might say she tries too hard, she would almost certainly disagree with them. She believes you should always try your best at everything you do

Motivation: Charity is the most recent in a long line of nuns. Being a chaste group, each nun must recruit her successor to continue the tradition, convincing them of the power of their god. To do this, the nuns study under Merlin, who teaches them how to channel their god's power. Charity's master passed away prematurely, leaving the young and untrained Charity to search out her own apprentice under Merlin's guidance

Stats: (Sister Charity is at 17 stats)

  • Casting: 0. Charity uses only incantations, as such her casting is always slow
  • Concentration: 4. Charity is very focused on her casting thanks to her devotion to her god
  • Guarding: 4. Charity knows many wards which help her prevent attacks against herself and others. Casting the right ward requires she know what attack she's dealing with, but once she does she can completely cancel it
  • Manipulation: 0. Charity has learned nothing of manipulation
  • Conjuring: 6. Charity uses Conjuring of some form to summon powerful holy attacks
  • Supreme Aether: Fire from Heaven - Charity calls down a powerful bolt of lightning to strike down her foes. This is an extremely powerful attack but requires that her opponent be sinful and unrepentant (as in, she literally has to get them to admit verbally that they aren't sorry for whatever sin she has them pegged on)
  • Spark Ability: Righteous Devotion - Casting incantations as prayers increases the strength of Charity's god, in turn increasing her magic's strength. She gains 2 Conjuring while using prayers

Primary School:

  • Incantation: Increases Conjuring for every 20 words in an incantation. Requires 6 Conjuring

Other: Anything else to share?

Gypsy - Deceased

Character Name: Gavin Storm
Alias: Gypsy
Age: 24
Gender: Male

Appearance: An average height guy with a lot of muscle for a computer nerd. He has blonde hair that falls just past his ears with long bangs covering his blue eyes. He usually wears jeans and a plain white button-up shirt

Personality: Gypsy is an easygoing fellow who likes to hang out and play games. Merlin would say he has, quote, "techno voodoo." As he's managed to revive some of her ancient game systems that broke down ages ago. He generally just helps out with random chores or really whatever needs done, working silently and not asking for thanks

Motivation: Gypsy is a time-warping gamer. Does he need a reason to hang out with the girl in the sexy witch cosplay?... Yes? Oh, okay then. He hangs around because he's got a mega-crush on Merlin. He even wrote a program to let her play go fish on her HUD. Magic isn't easy for him, but he makes up for it by studying hard

Stats: (Gypsy is at 21 because he's also better than you)

  • Casting: 3. Gypsy uses simple and quick spells but is very much limited to using one at a time
  • Concentration: 2. Gypsy is rather poor at focusing on complex spells and generally sticks to simple casts to prevent discharges
  • Guarding: 5. Gypsy can create telekinetic barriers which block projectile attacks and melee weaponry. He also has extensive knowledge of counterspells that let him nullify incantations before they're cast; he prefers to avoid casting these as they require him to concentrate quite a lot
  • Manipulation: 7. Gypsy has his teles covered, possessing strong telekinesis, telepathy, and teleportation. He can also freely modify the age of an object if he so chooses (doesn't work on living things)
  • Conjuring: 3. Using incantations, Gypsy can conjure simple elemental objects. He cannot conjure anything without an incantation
  • Supreme Aether: None
  • Spark Ability: Tarot - Gypsy has a peculiar power which lets him temporarily travel forward short distances in time using tarot cards to set coordinates and dictate how long the warp will last. He's only capable of setting up one warp at a time, but if he warps to a point after he would return, his non-warped self and warped self can meet and work together

Primary School:

  • Psychic: Increases Manipulation when around other Psychics. Requires 6 Manipulating

Other: Recently became Merlin's first hire as a teacher, taking on the job of teaching counterspells

She's a slow thinker but once she gets going she's actually extremely smart; she has a knack for biology. A very compassionate and caring young woman, she never had a cold enough heart to be "professional" so most of the other scientists disliked her. She's very good with young children.

Ballista, D279: Caliber

Small, rounded nose but sharp chin and cheeks. The conditions for this Aether are that the enemy must look into her eye and that it must be three minutes after she last used it
  • Spark Ability: Energy Casing - Caliber can craft the arcane energy she conjures into various projectiles with greater specialization and power than a simple orb of energy would have. These projectiles are fired from her hands, using her fingers to direct their initial trajectory

Mech Appearance: Covers Accelerator in light metal plating of a silver color. Has a pointed helmet with a red visor. The toes are made into a single point and each finger ends in a point as well. Inside the center of the back is a glowing red circular device. There are small thrusters scattered all across the mech. In each wrist is a circular opening serving to fire the mech's various weapons

Personality: Very angry and antisocial. Basically refuses to say anything to people except how much she dislikes them. Has a soft spot for younger kids and tends to get along with Genie because of it.

Mechs Stats: 9

  • Speed: 4 - Accelerator has a special anti-gravity device that allows her to float freely through the air, using her thrusters to maneuver at high speeds
  • Melee: 0
  • Firepower: 5 - Each wrist has access to three different weapons it can cycle through. An armor piercing gun made for precision attack. A shotgun that fires in a wide spread to use against harder to hit foes or enemies that get to close. And a high fire rate machine gun intended for general usage.
  • Armor: 0 - While the mech is technically armored, it would only block the most pitiful of attacks

Signature Attack: --

Special Ability: Accelerate - Accelerator can greatly increase the travel speed of her projectiles as they fly, allowing her to strike quicker and more accurately from increased ranges. As well she can increase her own travel speed while levitating

Arata, F135: Meltdown

Spoiler

Character Name: Arata "F135"

Alias: Meltdown

Age: 15

Gender: Male

Appearance: Pale skin. Short, light brown hair small yellow eyes, but not quite small enough to be described as beady. Rather tall

Mech Appearance: Covers Meltdown in light metal plating colored black. Has a pointed helmet with a purple visor. While it does possess standard legs, the mech more commonly moves about using a set of eight spider-like legs protruding from its back. These legs have sharp tips which can easily be stuck into many surfaces. Its fingers are pointed with similar tips which, while not as useful for maneuvering, can still be used as dangerous claws in close combat

Personality: Sarcastic but generally not so witty, in fact he tends a bit towards stupidity at times. Very headstrong and unwilling to admit when he's wrong.

Mechs Stats: 9

  • Speed: 4 - Capable of moving at decently high speeds, but more importantly capable of moving at consistent speeds across nearly any surface. The versatility provided by the spider legs is hard to match
  • Melee: 5 - The versatile legs can be used to stab and slash opponents with their tips, as can the sharp fingers on Meltdown's hands. They can also be used at close range to hold an opponent still or otherwise improve grappling skill
  • Firepower: 0
  • Armor: 0

Signature Attack: --

Special Ability: Melting Acid - Meltdown can spit a vicious acid from his mech's palms which melts through the opposing mech until it dissipates. Given enough time, this acid will melt through even the toughest armors. It also inflicts great pain when contacting the pilot directly

Cassidy, E06L: Willow

Spoiler

Character Name: Cassidy "E06L"
Alias: Willow
Age: 13
Gender: Female
Appearance: Tall, white skin. Pale purple hair, black eyes, the left of which has some sort of indistinct red mark on the iris just below the pupil. Wears a purple and red pleated skirt, black tee, black hooded jacket, white socks, and black tennis shoes.
Personality: Cassidy is an extreme introvert, interacting with other people is extremely draining for her. Despite this, she tends to be rather outspoken, albeit it's very quiet speaking. She generally avoids human company, but won't shy away from it if someone reaches out to her, though she may be suspicious of them at first.
Stats:

  • Casting: 0
  • Concentration: 5. Cassidy has to have good concentration, not only to keep from causing a backfire but also because it helps her maintain her powers for longer without straining her mental defenses.
  • Guarding: 0
  • Manipulation: 9. Cassidy has only a single ability, but she has it in spades. She can project her Dream Space around others, causing her target to see visions of the horrors contained. It's nearly impossible to keep her from getting into your head. She can target an indefinite number of people, but each addition strains her a little more and increases the chance of her horrors striking back at her.
  • Conjuring: 0
  • Supreme Aether: None
  • Spark Ability: Nightmare - Cassidy's Dream Space is filled with pure fear, eldritch horrors so beyond imagination that the mere sight of them instills extreme fear and rapidly drives one to madness. Cassidy is mercifully shielded from these effects, but it's not total, the fear and insanity are always edging at her mind, trying to break through. Prolonged use of her powers will degrade her mental defenses.

Primary School: Psychic

Other: Roman numerals

~Foes~

Ansuz

Spoiler

Character Name: N.T. Child
Alias: Ansuz
Age: 16
Gender: Male

Appearance: Ansuz is a short, girly-looking boy with medium-length brown hair and bluish grey eyes. He wears a white and black jumpsuit with a mini jacket and tall white shoes

Personality: Ansuz sees himself as having two faces. The person he is in reality, and the person he pretends to be to be accepted. His real self is emotional and unpredictable, prone to making irrational decisions and wallowing in self-pity. For the sake of fitting in, he puts on a facade of normality and kindness. He often traveled with Merlin where she attempted to help him learn to socialize more comfortably, and because of this most of her students know him. Many think of him as a second teacher and even treat him as Merlin's younger brother

Motivation: Ansuz's reasons for joining Merlin were because he saw her and magic as an escape. He left because he began to resent her attempts to change him, deciding that she could never really accept him as he was

Stats: [Ansuz is at 17]

  • Casting: 0. Ansuz can prepare spells in advance, meaning he can take his time and doesn't need to practice increased casting speeds
  • Concentration: 4. Ansuz may not require concentration in battle, but he needs it during preparation of his Runes
  • Guarding: 0. Ansuz relies on setting traps for his foes, so he rarely needs direct defense
  • Manipulation: 5. Ansuz's runes can be used effectively to manipulate the space around them. Everything from gusts of wind to gravity wells to teleportation
  • Conjuring: 5. Ansuz can also use his runes conjure the various elements and even create simple summons from them
  • Supreme Aether: Unknown
  • Spark Ability: Rune Crafter - Ansuz can prepare runes on any surface and infuse them with a spell for use later. He can also create "blank" runes which he can use to mimic other runes he carries

Primary School:

  •  Mech: Ansuz has learned to integrate the mech system into his magic. Benefits unknown

Other: He's actually not the Witch at all, Merlin's just a softy

While I am quite interested in anything involving fireballs and heresy I would have to ask how fast paced this RP will be, also I am reserving this post for a potential character sheet.

Motivation:

Revenge.

No idea how fast it will go. when I'm GMing (well, in the style I'll be GMing in here, go look at BDB for a good example) I usually let my players set the pace. So it'll mostly come down to how active everyone is

Also, Merlin sheet up soon(TM). I ran out of time and didn't want to risk my PC bopping this post when it ran out of power so the OOC shipped without her

Merlin exists now. You should be concerned

Other: She has recurring nightmares of being stuck in a room with Merlin.

post to probably make a sheet eventually

Character Theme: Blizzard

Battle Theme: Harudomerugu

Since Emp asked, Ima real quick mention it here: Most of the combat will be "infiltration mission" type stuff, kind of like BDB but without the world itself trying to murder you... most of the time

Hmm... I could get behind this. Few questions, though. Even if a few of them are as obvious as I think they are, I just want to be sure.

Will this be taking place during the events of TTG?

...I'm guessing yes.

What would the limits on summoning be? Or more specifically, depending on our strength in it, what would we be able to summon and how much of it can we summon?

Err... scratch that second one. I think I misread that.

Edited by Komodojoe

Yes, this is happening at the same time as TTG. There may or may not be a cameo or two in the thinkies

The limitations of summons is dependent on how you create them. Conjuring them from nothing means you can make more and make them faster but they're going to be worse and less controllable. Using items present around you with Manipulation gives much more control and stronger summons, but takes longer and generally can't make as many. Under no circumstances may you ever summon a being with a Dream Space (soul) of its own and the closer to that you get, the harder a summon will be to create and control

Cronos. Where did Peyton come from?? Can that not just be his alias? Because everyone is going to call each other by their aliases

There's a slight flaw in his backstory. Organized crime doesn't exist in Tempest, or at least not mobs and gangs. Communication issues and an inability to get transportation illegally (unless you're making it yourself) make it virtually impossible. The closest thing would be the fringe science groups who perform experiments of unquestionable illegality but are hard/impossible to track down for the Gods

Spoiler

Character Theme: An Empty Tome.

Battle Theme: Rhapsody of the Forsaken.

Pretty sure I said no to this effect, I guess I wasn't clear enough, my apologies. TL;DR this lets you see untransformed werewolves, I can't let you have any ability strong enough to let you see untransformed werewolves (No, there are not werewolves in Tempest, but it's a good way to communicate where the line is)

About the gender bit thing, sorry about that.

Concentration thing, I changed it to not mention his illusions.

The name is Irish for "Dark Man" which fits with his undisguised appearance since let's face it, he wears all black.

I added those arbitrary limitations because I didn't know how powerful a Spark Ability should be.

So yeah in general, sorry about that, and thank you for bearing with me for a moment.

This is my character sheet.  I'm happy to change whatever needs changing.  Final Version.

Spoiler

Other Notes:  Bellona will try to conceal her... response to anger for as long as she can, and is generally fairly good about not letting the genie out of the bottle, so to speak.  Unfortunately, bottling up your emotions isn't the healthiest choice.  Contents may be under pressure.

·       Casting:  1.  Bellona is not a particularly efficient or versatile caster.  She has mastered a single spell, rather than branching out.

Casting is how quickly you can cast, not how versatile you are. There's not really anything that covers versatility

18 minutes ago, Zoe_Walker said:

·       Concentration:  3.  Bellona actually only knows one spell, Telekinesis, although she has gotten to be very, very good at it.

Concentration is how good you are at casting

18 minutes ago, Zoe_Walker said:

·       Manipulation:  4. Bellona’s telekinetic magic is very strong.  She can lift and move around very heavy objects, crush and reshape things according to her will, punch people over buildings, etc.

This isn't that strong a Manipulation stat

18 minutes ago, Zoe_Walker said:

·       Supreme Aether: Spellrage – When Bellona is hurt, and it isn’t self-inflicted, she flies into a Spellrage.  This increases her Manipulation and Guarding by 3 as it shrouds her layers of telekinetic force, enhancing her body and spells.  While in a Spellrage, Bellona has the raw power to take on even a mech, if the pilot isn’t too experienced.  But with the immense power comes an inability to strategize, as her mind is consumed by a burning, magically-fuelled frenzy.  Thus, an experienced pilot would win every time by outthinking her.

That's a really strong buff for such an open condition. Also a strong mage (like everyone here) can most definitely take down a weak mech user, that's a given. It's when you look at strong mechs where you question it. Merlin is the weakest of mages that can contend with a top tier mech, and most max power mages will just barely fall short

·       Spark Ability:  Aetheric Clog – Bellona, unlike other mages, cannot discharge solid favor.  Once she has it, it clings like an octopus.  This makes her magic extremely powerful, but also unstable.  When Bellona uses a spell, it has a 10% chance to have doubled potency.  It also has a 10% chance to force a roll on this Wild Magic Backfire table, rerolling any results that this system, world, or GM disallow.  Both special effects cannot happen at once. http://www.traykon.com/pdf/The_Net_Libram_of_Random_Magical_Effects.pdf

All of this is no

Primary School:  Psychic.

You need six points for a school. And since it wasn't clear before, you are not required a school immediately

Wait.  You can level up in this setting?  Huh.  That was not made obvious to me.  Okay then.  So then, what does make a strong or weak stat?  And what are spark abilities and supreme aethers actually supposed to do?  Because again, this is probably clear to some people, but I'm apparently not getting it.

I probably should have asked these questions first, but hindsight is always the clearest kind of vision.

Going to make a sheet for this. I notice there are few male sheets and do not intend to remedy this fact.

A few questions:

How does combat, if there is any, actually work? I understand that there will not *be* much, going from the description of the "Supreme Aether", but how would it work if such a situation arised that required it?

How do level ups happen? Do they happen as you will it or is there some known criteria for getting more powerful?

How many players max?

But most importantly, there will be a growth system

I'd probably put a strong stat at 8, since that's >half of your starting points but theoretically you could put as much as 21 into a single stat. If you want her to be able to do everything off of one stat, you're going to need to put a lot into it

Sparks are an ability that helps define your mage and their magic. An Aether is an attack (usually) that's designed to only work under certain circumstances but be very useful in those circumstances

Aether:

"Getting hurt" is a very broad circumstance and +6 stats puts you near the max 21. Also you made a lot of assumptions about the relative power levels of mechs and mages

Spark:

  • Removes the standard weakness for mages entirely (this alone is not bad with the right drawbacks)
  • Gives you a chance of a powerful bonus (also not bad alone)
  • Adds a lot of extra rolls for me to make (Okay, this is not necessarily bad either, but it's still something I'm not particularly excited about)
  • Defines numbers that are unrelated to the system at hand, potentially disrupting balance
  • Adds tabletop mechanics with no attempt to port them made whatsoever
  • Favor backfiring would either cause you to literally explode or turn into a soulless husk, not sure which. Either way if you're failing a spell you want that shit out of you or you're dead

TBH, this is a trend I was hoping for

Combat will work pretty much just like BDB. And the amount will depend on you guys

When I feel like you've earned it, you'll get to learn more stuff

Arbitrarily determined by the GM when she feels like she's at capacity

Tentative sheet edited in. I presume stabbing people with a mundane knife and the like won't be particularly effective?

Favor>mundane, always

Oh and I might shift the numbers around depending on what Murdoc and Hukuna yell at me to do.

No problem, I'll look a bit later

This is pretty okay. Once you're good with it I'll accept it unless you make drastic changes

Not much more to it; her nigh-obsession is enough to get her to put up with things that would normally infuriate her.

this amuses me. Because she would probably absolutely hate Merlin under normal circumstances

Spark Ability: Overdrive. Ice can willingly degrade her own health to empower her spellcasting, boosting both power and speed, with penalties directly proportional to the amount of boost she gets. She can localize this to a specific part of her body with enough focus, though the situations that call for the usage of this ability generally don't allow for splitting one's concentration like that.

How do you mean "degrade her health?" I'm pretty okay with "scaling buff with scaling drawback." But it needs a bit more tangibility. And focusing to specific parts of the body, I didn't think she was casting self-buff spells?
