Global Mods Dreamy Posted November 26, 2017 Global Mods Share Posted November 26, 2017 it would be pretty cool to use the shiny, but I kind of consider ghost and dark to be doubleups on a team, so I think its fine to not. also I'm guilty of using 4 different Megas in my AS team all pretty equally. Was fun to use 1 for each E4 member.
Filthy Casual
Chapter 13: BLOWN BACK Last time, we had completed our team of six, and were in pursuit of Team Magma. Unfortunately for us, we were too late, as the submarine had already be commandeered. Because of this, we quickly made haste to the Magma hideout in Lilycove. While there, we found a multitude of things, such as Nuggets, the Master Ball, a couple wily Electrodes, and five interesting trainers. Of course, it was obvious that these quintuplets would get blown away. After all, just like in past games, this only means we would have to face them five times in a row. While that's quite the nuisance, it's at least still good experi- Oh? We get to challenge them all at once? So what, is this a double battle? Wait, a horde?! Come to think of it, why don't more evil organizations do this? Yes, the battle is a joke, but I bet the Poochyena's become Mightyena's with the ability Intimidate just to throw people off in the inevitable rematch (you know it's going to happen at some point). Regardless, we ended up finding Courtney, who told us it was too late. Now, let me just be the first to say that once again, this battle is a joke. Achilles (Swampert) OHKOd with Surf. However, there's something I'd like to talk about as a side note, and that's the excellent Pokemon Generations special. I had watched it last year with a group of friends, and finally have a better context in terms of what that scene is compared to that of the games. As such... Spoiler If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it. It's really good! Assuming you've gone and done that, here are a couple miscellaneous thoughts I have about the scene: 1) Brendan is an amazing trainer. He not only invaded the Magma base with just a Sceptile, but he OHKOd a Golbat with Leaf Blade. How badass! 2) In the game, Courtney just stood there before we showed up. There's at least a couple boxes of dialogue where it's just ellipsis. Here, it's nice to see that Courtney is actually starting to question whether or not her boss is doing the right thing. 3) I prefer the Origins dialogue Courtney has here rather than the OR dialogue, but that's just personal preference. Courtney's robotic tendencies creep me out more than make me chuckle. 4) I know Camerupt is a camel, but I still don't think that cry fits it. Still better than the anime Beheeyem cry. With that out of the way, Courtney decided to taunt us, telling us that if we wanted to catch up to Maxie, we would need to find a way underwater. While the MC isn't supposed to know what that means, it clearly means "Get a badge to advance", so we traveled the ocean to do just that. Along the way, we fought a multitude of trainers, until we reached the next town. Charlotte (Vulpix) even learned Flamethrower! As such, we decided it was time to give her the Fire Stone! Our team is now fully evolved! Upon entering the gym, we were surprised to see not one, but two gym leaders. These two, Tate and Liza, specialized in double battles. This is quite an amazing concept, as double battles are a huge part of the Hoenn region! Without hesitation, we went to battle! Spoiler Quick question: why is it Liza and Tate here? It's not a big deal whatsoever, but coming from RSE, it's kind of strange to see the names switched. The battle begins with... ...Solrock and Lunatone getting BLOWN THE FUCK BACK. YOU DIDN'T EVEN GET A TURN OFF! GET SOME MORE MONS! With our victory, we were able to attain our seventh badge! Next time, we'll be... ...this is new. ...wait, how? I literally just finished the battle! We were quickly rushed into Steven's house, where he explained to us that Team Magma had found the resting place of that "ancient Pokemon", and he needed our help to stop it. Because of this, he gave us a gift: I'll need to find another Pokemon to use it, because I'm not giving it to my Swampert. Regardless, next time, we'll be attempting to put a stop to Maxie's plans once and for all! Filthy Casual
Chapter 14: Armageddon Before traveling to the Seafloor Caverns, we needed to enlist the help of a particular HM slave. After all, we didn't have anyone who could use Dive. As such, let's meet the newest HM Slave! Spoiler In all honesty, I couldn't think of any unique names that haven't been said before. While down there, we discovered that Team Magma had already made their home within the cave. However, we also noticed an incredible TM! Achilles (Swampert) is now even more busted. Despite this excellent addition to our arsenal, there was no time to relish this glory, as Maxie had defeated Archie in convincing fashion. Strangely enough, Maxie seemed excited to see us. Apparently, he wanted to relish in his victory, even allowing us to meet this ancient Pokemon. OH MY GOD I LOVE GROUDON! He's always been my favorite legendary. Despite his excitement, Maxie still had one thing left to do: to take us down. In fact, before the battle began, he decided to tell us this: That's right. Mega Camerupt was finally about to be revealed. It was time to stop Maxie once and for all! Spoiler The battle begins with the coolest background known to man. Apophis is easily able to KO Mightyena with a Play Rough. Achilles walls Weezing while KOing with Surf. Crobat gets off an Acrobatics before Rock Slide KOs. You already know what this means. With two megas on the field, it was time to reveal our hands. Indeed, this would be the battle of the... ...five seconds... You have to love how much personality they gave Maxie with animations alone! Despite our victory, Maxie seemed determined to summon Groudon. In fact, he was about to summon him until Tabitha stopped him. Tabitha tried to warn Maxie about his findings in the weather institute. Apparently, if Groudon was awakened, not only would the land mass expand beyond expectations, but the world would die. Unfortunately for Tabitha, that was the last thing Maxie wanted to hear. Obviously, Maxie is still a moron for thinking this. Still, it at least fits in with his character. Unfortunately for everyone else, though, this meant disaster for the world. Indeed, because my character decided to NOT SEND OUT HIS POKEMON FOR SOME REASON, Groudon was awakened at last. He only craved for one thing... ...a big hug. In fact, another funny thing happens this cutscene. Groudon decides to jump out of the cave in order to make his way to Sootopolis. Take a look at the sky as he comes out. Just a moment later, however, the sun's rays intensify. Groudon is able to intensify the rays of the sun at his will. Meanwhile, the "Sunne" Pokemon, Solgaleo, can't. Eat your heart out, Solgaleo. Also, for those of you wondering how Groudon could travel over water all these years, here's your answer at long last. While Maxie was certainly happy about his accomplishment at first, optimism quickly gave way to despair as he realized it wasn't a good idea to unleash a monster capable of killing everything unto the world. With everyone heading up to the surface, Archie informed us that Groudon was heading out to Sootopolis. As such, next time, we'll be heading there to put a stop to Groudon once and for all! Filthy Casual
Chapter 15: Burning Spirits This was it. Groudon was rampaging throughout the Hoenn region, and it was up to us to stop it. Before we could chase after it, however, we had to meet up with another new character! Look closely at what he says here, as it reveals the best part about this game... FUCK YEAH! WALLACE ISN'T THE CHAMPION! Wallace explained to us that the power of Primal Reversion was dormant in the Cave of Origin. However, Groudon finally had access to it once more. As such, Wallace granted us access to the cave. Along the way, however, we were met up with Team Aqua and Magma. Maxie had supposedly been working with the Devon Corporation (Tabitha had apparently been a part of the corporation) in order to create a suit that would allow them to meet up with Groudon. However, there was one person who could wear this suit... ...the fucking ten year old. Seriously, Steven, why can't YOU try to stop it? You're the FUCKING CHAMPION, and you LET the ten year old save the region?! It bothered me back then, and it bothers me now. Regardless, with all of that out of the way, Steven gave us some BS speech about how the power of love and friendship will pull us through. Despite all of that, we were still pleasantly surprised to see someone else see us off! Hey, it's May! It was always strange how she didn't come to help in the originals, so it's nice to see her here! Of course, she was quite confused to see Team Aqua and Magma working together. However, she quickly abandoned that thought, realizing that all of this was now out of her hands. She decided instead to give us some support. Thanks, May! It's nice of you to- ...wait, are they trying to ship the MC and the rival? Imagine what that could mean for the future of the franchise if they are both- All jokes aside, we quickly made our way into the Cave of Origin, where we decided to quickly catch another Pokemon. Spoiler Eventually, we made it deep in the Cave of Origin, where we were forced to put on our conveniently ten year old shaped Magma suit. With the power of the Blue Orb, we were able to even draw out none other than Groudon! In this situation, what do you think the most logical thing to do would be? If you said jump on Groudon's back, well, you'd not only make my inner child happy, but you'd be right! I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY! With all of that done, there was one thing to do: face off against the legend himself. You know, part of me wishes you DID go primal. It would make for a better challenge. ...no, wait, I take it back! I TAKE IT- SHIT! The battle took an extremely long time, as Groudon refused to stay in the ball. Luckily, we had two MVPs in Raff (Vileplume) and Cirrus (Altaria). With their help, Groudon was finally caught! I wanted to name him "My Ex Wife", but I've done that too many times. Also, "Better Solgaleo" didn't fit. With that completed, we saved the world, allowing us to once again enjoy the peaceful climate of Hoenn. After a long talk about forgiveness, Maxie decided to entrust us with the power of Groupon's Primal form. If that wasn't enough, Steven followed that up by giving us access to the first ever ride Pokemon! Eat your heart out, Sun and Moon! Despite our victory, our adventure hadn't ended yet! We still had to defeat Wallace for our final badge! Wallace himself sensed our newfound sense of confidence. Indeed, it was time for a battle! Spoiler The battle begins with Luvdisc hitting Lundgren with Attract. It only proves to be a nuisance, as Luvdisc gets blown away by Megahorn. LOL Raff is able to tank an Ice Beam, hitting Milotic with Sleep Powder. Raff KOs the Milotic with a couple well placed Giga Drains. Lundgren decimates with Close Combat. Raff is able to easily finish the fight with a Giga Drain. Easy. With our victory, we obtained our final badge! However, that wasn't all! Wallace was nice enough to reward us with this amazing HM! Indeed, this means next time, we'll be taking on Victory Road, as well as running into Wally and his Super Potions (if it's the same as RSE)! Current Team Spoiler On a side note: I replayed Emerald in December for the first time in years. When I beat the Elite Four, everyone on my team except for Swampert was level 46. Look how jacked everyone is! This is the problem with gen 6: the game wasn't built around the EXP Share. USUM do a much better job with that mechanic. iDunno
20 hours ago, Filthy Casual said: There was not reason for Gamefreak to do this if all she had was a Camerupt. Why, you may ask? Because this is the same fight as Tabitha, who also only had a Camerupt. Needless to say, the battle lasted one turn. That's one of my biggest problems with Team Magma and Aqua that they didn't fix with the remakes: every member uses the SAME Pokemon. Couldn't they mix it up? Maybe give Courtney a Claydol, or a Ninetales, and give Tabitha a Flygon or a Magcargo? *sigh* 9 hours ago, Filthy Casual said: FUCK YEAH! WALLACE ISN'T THE CHAMPION! Yeah, I think everyone agrees that was the weirdest change ever. It was cool to have Steven be a Bonus Boss à la Red, but Milotic doesn't make for a very compelling Final Boss. Are you gonna get the National Dex after the E4? Because it unlocks a couple non-Hoenn Pokemon on the region, and there are Victory Road trainers with non-Hoenn Pokemon
Filthy Casual
Chapter 16: Showdown of the Starters After defeating Wallace, we decided to quickly stop by to visit our Mom. She told us that she was proud of us, even giving us an Amulet Coin for visiting her! That wasn't all, however! We found this: So is Mewtwo in this game? I feel like Mega Mewtwo X gets nowhere near as much love as Y, and would love to at least try it out. That wasn't all, however. We stopped by to visit Birch, who upgraded our Pokedex to the national dex! We would now be able to see Pokemon that hadn't visited the Hoenn region for a thousand years, perhaps a side effect of saving the world. With that done, we had one thing left to do: finish Victory Road... ...and my goodness, what a facelift! Victory Road is a marvel when you realize you're walking through a cave within a greenland within yet another cave. It's so much more amazing just for that. Not only that, but some of the trainers even used Unovan Pokemon! This is making me wonder what the Elite Four is going to use. Will they use new Pokemon, or will they keep their teams the same? While pondering this question, we continued onward until we ran into a familiar face... Wally had apparently beaten us here. He proceeded to tell us that his crushing defeat back them motivated him to become much stronger than he was. He had prepared for the inevitable rematch for some time. This didn't stop him from becoming nervous, however... That's when something awesome happened: the guitars kicked in. We'll let Wally say the next part for us: Spoiler The battle begins with Lundgren being forced to immediately switch out. Apophis (Absol) is hit with a Dragon Pulse. One Play Rough dominates the Altaria. ...you still have a Roselia? Regardless, Charlotte easily handles the creature. Wait, why do you still have a Magneton? Charlotte is easily able to KO Magneton, as well. One Close Combat decimates Delcatty. This left Wally's ace: the famous Gardev- ...WHAT?! He's got a Gallade now?! Not only that, but it's his mega! I anticipated that he would only have Mega Gardevoir! However, with the stage being set, it was time for a showdown between our two first Pokemon! While Achilles is almost able to KO with Earthquake, Gallade tanks the hit and lands a Close Combat. Next turn, Gallade attempts to conserve PP and go for Psycho Cut. Achilles tanks the hit, KOing with another Earthquake. Indeed, Wally has fallen once more... ...but honestly, I'm kind of disappointed with this fight. Once again, they kept it too similar just for the sake of keeping it similar. In a remake, that's generally acceptable. There's only one problem with that, though. At this point, you have the National Dex, meaning there was no reason not to give him a Magnezone or Roserade. That would have made the fight feel even more fresh and memorable. It's still great, but it could have been so much more. With our victory secured, Wally seemed really frustrated with himself. However, he quickly pushed his emotions aside to congratulate us on a well fought battle. With our victory, he decided to give us a gift in order to commemorate this battle. In fact, with Wally's newfound confidence, he decided to tell us this: With Wally defeated, we quickly decided to leave Victory Road. One Mewtwonite Y later, and we finally noticed we had at long last made it. The Pokemon League was right in front of us. Next time, we'll be taking on the Elite Four! Current Team Spoiler We'll be doing this part a bit differently. I'll be talking about what I think each member is going to contribute in the league. Achilles is my anchor for the team, and will continue to be throughout the league. Whenever someone needs help, Achilles will be there to pick up any slack. While a lot of people know Swampert is my favorite, Vileplume is actually my second favorite. Unfortunately, Raff is probably going to be generally useless. However, can still be a trump card for Glacia's Walrein in case I need Sleep Powder. LOL RIP Drake When I get in the league, I'll be replacing the Absolite with the Life Orb. For the first time in my life, Phoebe may be a joke. She always gives me the hardest time, so this will be satisfying. LOL RIP Sidney Charlotte is going to be decent for two fights: Glacia and Steven. Still, she's been fun to use. Filthy Casual
Chapter 17: Knocking on the Door of Destiny After doing some quick training, it was finally time. Indeed, it was time to fight the Elite Four! I was really excited to see what they would do with this one, as I personally believe that this Elite Four was where expectations really started to heighten. Upon entering, said expectations didn't disappoint. Look at that! That's such an amazing way to enter! Not only that, but the first leader, Sidney, has a chair now! Sidney, the dark type leader, seemed excited to face us. Without hesitation, we went to battle! Spoiler Let me just say that while the presentation is overall great, I'm really disappointed by this remix. The mixing wasn't necessarily great, as the sound just blended together without anything really standing out. Then again, that could also be me missing my trumpets. HOLY SHIT LOOK AT THIS BATTLE BACKGROUND! ...anyways, the battle begins with Apophis going for a Life Orb boosted Play Rough. Mightyena goes down. Spoiler alert: Lundgren spams Megahorn to win. Not going to lie, Sidney. You were always one of the worst Elite Four members, even in the originals. Despite having a relatively easy time, Sidney assured us that we'd have a much harder time in the next room. While I knew what was coming (mostly), I was still scared, as this next member always gave me a boat load of trouble. Regardless, we proceeded on through an eerie backdrop. Upon entering the room, we met Phoebe, a person who looks like she belongs in the inferior tropical region Alola. Without hesitation, we took to battle! Spoiler The battle begins with Apophis KOing with Night Slash. One Play Rough destroys Sableye, but the Life Orb damage is starting to worry me a bit. It all culminates in THIS GUY showing up. This takes me completely off guard, as this wasn't in the originals. In fact, Dusknoir is so bulky, it not only takes the Adamant Life Orb boosted Night Slash, but almost KOs with Ice Punch. Phoebe uses her Full Restore while Apophis KOs with another Night Slash. Time is used to heal Apophis. Afterwards, all it takes is a Night Slash. One more Night Slash seals the game. While this was a slaughter, Phoebe successfully managed to waste some good PP on Apophis. I'll have to be more careful using him going forward. Despite my worries, we were able to pull out a victory. With Phoebe down, we continued onwards to the next room, where there was a sudden change in atmosphere. Seriously, that floor immediately froze as soon as the door opened. How is his feet not frozen to the ground? All jokes aside, we traveled into the next room, where we ran into a confident woman named Glacia. Our third challenge awaited us! Spoiler The battle begins with Charlotte getting a critical hit on Glalie with Flamethrower. Raff is sent out to put Walrein to sleep with Sleep Powder. He then goes for two Giga Drains, taking it out. This also happens to catch me by surprise. Unfortunately, Charlotte gets haxed by Confuse Ray. While she isn't taken out, the damage is done. The next Froslass almost takes Charlotte out with Shadow Ball. Luckily, Charlotte manages to outspeed and KO with Dark Pulse. Charlotte finishes the job with a Flamethrower. Charlotte has really been picking up her slack as of late! We managed to crack through Glacia's intimidating team. However, there was one last challenge we had left... ...Bruno from HGSS. Okay, while the setting is extremely similar, it's not Bruno. Instead, it was Hoenn's dragon master, Drake! Unwilling to back down, we decided to take the fight to Drake! Spoiler The battle begins with... ...wait a minute, doesn't Altaria become part fairy when it mega evolves? That was by far the easiest battle. I should also add that the only one to get any damage off was Salamence from a Zen Headbutt. Hell, because of that slaughter, Cirrus is now the strongest member of the team! With Drake defeated, we thought we had finally become the champion. However, Drake informed us that we were not done with our challenge yet. Next time, we'll be taking on the champion for the right to call ourselves the strongest trainer in Hoenn! Current Team Spoiler
Global Mods Dreamy Posted November 28, 2017 Global Mods Share Posted November 28, 2017 I have to say, both 6th gen games did an excellent job of making the pokemon league feel epic. the bridges in OR/AS and the rooms in X/Y were both great. Also excited to get this delta episode rolling after this. I do think it's a shame that the E4 members lack mega evolutions on the first pass. Filthy Casual
Chapter 18: Judgement Day Indeed, throughout many trials and tribulations, we had finally made it to the end of the game. Only one long corridor awaited us before the champion. With such intense and epic buildup, we quickly made sure our team was in peak condition to fight. Afterwards, we walked in, and... ...well, who else could the champion be? Steven proceeded to congratulate us for making it so far. He also acknowledged that we had made it through a multitude of trials to get where we were. However, Steven was still interested in one more thing... We'll let Steven elaborate on what happened next... Spoiler HERE WE GO! CHAMPION STEVEN WOULD LIKE TO BATTLE WITH HIS... ...lackluster remix? Yeah, I was extremely disappointed with the choice of instrumentation here. Having said that, the fight itself MORE than makes up for it. The battle begins with Charlotte going for Flamethrower as Skarmory sets up Spikes. After a Full Restore, Skarmory goes down. Charlotte gets off free damage on Aggron before going down to a Stone Edge. One Close Combat from Lundgren is more than enough to bring Aggron down. Lundgren is able to outspeed and KO Claydol with Megahorn. Close Combat KOs the abomination to all mankind Cradily. However, Cradily is able to get up a Confuse Ray. Steven is able to fit in one more Full Restore. Lundren is unfortunately able to KO. Armaldo, in turn, KOs Lundgren with a critical Crush Claw thanks to the previous Close Combat defense drops. You already know what time it is. Achilles dominates with Waterfall. I had a feeling that this Metagross wouldn't be any normal Metagross. Unfortunately, my suspicions turned out to be true. Achilles is able to hit Metagross with an Earthquake. However, Metagross counters with a Zen Headbutt. LOOK AT ALL OF THAT POWER! Since Steven had been healing at will at this point, I decide to use my first Hyper Potion. This turns out to be the deciding play, as Metagross goes for Giga Impact. Achilles tanks the hit, allowing him to get off one more Earthquake to secure the win. What an incredible champion battle. Steven has always been a great champion. After one of the greatest battles I have ever partaken in, Steven proceeded to congratulate us, stating that our victory wouldn't have been possible if the bond with our Pokemon wasn't so strong. As such, he proceeded to announce our new reign as the Hoenn champion! ...wait a minute, let's zoom in on that face for a bit... Even with silly faces, Steven looks suave as hell! Of course, anyone who played these games knows what happens next. May barges in, attempting to give us advice, while Birch says that we have grown so much. Steven then invited us to the Hall of Fame, where we got to register our amazing team! Spoiler The surprise of the squad! She really pulled her weight by the end! Lundgren really dominated by the time Sidney came to town! Even Steven had trouble finding an answer to it! Ah, Play Rough Adamant Life Orb Absol. You'll always be one of my favorite encounters, and it was nice to see you dominate a character that walled me so hard in the past. Mega Cirrus is power! Drake had nothing for her! Unfortunately, Raff didn't do much. Having said that, he's still been an awesome member to the team. Also, his take down of Walrein was extremely satisfying. Swampert always has been and always will be my favorite Pokemon of all time. His fight with Mega Metagross made my little kid cry out in happiness! After registering our team, I expected the end credits to play, like in the originals. However, we were instead treated to something new. What happens next is something honestly quite touching. May might make for a boring rival, but she also makes for an incredible friend. With that, we end the main story of Omega Ruby. On the ride home, however, we ended up running into one of the most unique end credits sequences I can remember. The game shows you all of the Pokemon that helped you on your journey throughout certain points. As such, here are some of my personal favorite moments from the game: Spoiler Oh, the first Poochyena battle. This is where the nostalgia train hit me the hardest, and it was nice to travel through the region with my favorite starter. Admittedly, this fight was pretty boring. However, it's here because of this face: You know, that first scene with Steven was really neat! It also reminded me about an old yet useful team member lost to time, Aero Smith the Swellow. I'll always appreciate how helpful he was during the story. At this point, it was mainly seeing what an embarrassment Aarune was. Still, looking back, it was still hilarious to think about how cringy he was. This backdrop was amazing for this fight. A volcano battle background during the night makes for an intense confrontation. This was a really fun addition to the game looking back! It's nice to see the Latis have more importance in the story. This was the fight that made me realize Cirrus was going to be a monster. It was also the reward for waiting through the painful Swablu stage. While there are no pictures for this one, there's only one reason this is here... This gave me flashbacks to Pokemon Generations. Having said that, it's also silly to think about my trainer slowly training a Heracross in the middle of an intense situation. All it took was one turn to end the fight. Easiest battle in the game by far. BEST LEGENDARY. Also, A BETTER BEING OF THE SUN THAN SOLGALEO. While he's not here, I would love to see Raff (Vileplume), as well. He also assisted in putting Groudon to sleep, after all. Finally, JUST LOOK AT THIS POWER! With that being said, what were some favorite moments of yours of this LP so far? What about during your own LPs? What were your champion teams? Generally, you'd think after all that, we'd be done. However, there was still one thing left to do. Despite our nostalgia coming back, there was one more thing May wanted us to do. Indeed, it was time for what I'm assuming is the TRUE final rival battle! Spoiler While Charlotte is more than able to take Swellow out, I make the decision to give the mons who didn't fight as much in the E4 more time to shine. As such, Achilles is brought out for Charlotte. One Rock Slide dominates. Mega Achilles sends Magcargo to the Shadow Realm with Waterfall. One Giga Drain is more than enough to take Wailord out. Raichu sets up the Light Screen turn one. While Sludge Bomb eventually takes out Raichu, Raff is paralyzed first with Thunder Wave. There was only one reason that May would challenge us to a rematch. Indeed, May had discovered the power of Mega Evolution, as well. Unfortunately for her, however, Raff not only broke through paralysis, but hit Sceptile with a critical Sludge Bomb. That battle was quite fun, as well! It's not hard, but it's a nice farewell to the main story. Despite her loss, May seemed really grateful for our battle. After our victory, the two of us decided to head back to Littleroot. Along the way, we saw a nice meteor shower. As such, with that, the main story of Omega Ruby is finally complete. However, we aren't done yet. Next time... ...well...
Global Mods Dreamy Posted November 28, 2017 Global Mods Share Posted November 28, 2017 Nice champion fight! I think Steven is still my second favorite champion. Excited to see how the delta episode goes for you and your reactions. I don't remember my last 2 members, but my main 4 in AS were Blaziken, Altaria, Sharpedo and Metagross (from event beldum). Just curious, how much did you use the EXP share? from memory I switched it on and off quite a bit throughout the game to keep me at a balanced level (but a bit under)

Just curious, how much did you use the EXP share? from memory I switched it on and off quite a bit throughout the game to keep me at a balanced level (but a bit under) I kept it on the whole game. I only used three members until halfway through the game, and didn't want Swablu to fall behind. I eventually forgot I could just turn it off. Even so, I'm disappointed in the EXP Share. Not because it makes the game easy (heck, I had the option to turn it off whenever I wanted), but because the game isn't designed with that EXP Share in mind, like in USUM. Still a big fan of this team, though. I'm not sure how this ranks compared to my top rank Emerald team (Swampert, Breloom, Crobat, Torkoal, Grumpig, Electrode), but man, this OR team was really fun! Also glad to see you've enjoyed the play through so far! I'm looking forward to seeing what this delta episode has to offer!
Filthy Casual
Chapter 19: Mixed Signals With our defeat of Steven, we were officially the Pokemon league champion! Traditionally, this means the end of our story. However, in this case, it marked the beginning of a new episode: the Delta episode! I've been hearing a fair amount about this episode, and am quite intrigued to see where this goes. Unfortunately for us, this episode doesn't seem to bode well for our heroes. Indeed, it seems like the plot of this episode is going to be very similar to Michael Bay's 1998 movie Armageddon. A meteorite is threatening to crash into the earth, and its up to us to stop it. However, after hearing this news, the scene quickly shifted to an area I assume is the Sky Pillar. ...wait a minute, weren't you that one grunt who showed up in the beginning of the game? Are we finally going to actually meet you? Admittedly, while I don't know what's coming, I do know about Zinnia's existence. Mainly, I know she's relatively popular amongst the community, and that her battle theme is good. It'll be interesting to know what role she plays, as she clearly wants to use Rayquaza to save the world from the meteor. In fact, she even claims that's why she was with Team Magma in the first place. I'm honestly pretty sad Zinnia didn't show up in a game like Emerald, where Rayquaza does show up. It may have been more interesting to see her plan pulled off. Regardless, we're quickly pulled back to our house, where our father commends us for our increased strength. Afterwards, he gives us a gift. Norman proceeds to tell us that he was going to go with our mother, but his gym called him back. Strangely enough, he tells us to invite May. That would be fine if he didn't call her "that cutie". I'm starting to get vibes that the game is actually trying to ship the two MCs now. As such, we tried to hand off the tickets, but along the way... ...excuse me? I just saw you for the first time. How are we in sync at all? Despite that strange introduction, Zinnia decides to introduced herself to us. She then proceeds to compliment us, describing us as the strong new champion of Hoenn. As she was talking to us, the Whismur, who seems to be named Aster, began pestering Zinnia. This caused her to say this: What alone? What were you planning to... ...oh, dear. May proceeded to tell us that she was heading out to Petalburg next. Of course, we quickly ran off, only to find that a familiar foe had beaten us there. Courtney had been determined to steal Wally's key stone. Wally, unfortunately, refused to battle her, as his key stone was also stolen by Zinnia. That didn't stop Courtney, however, as she was determined to try and defeat us in battle. Spoiler alert: the battle lasted one turn. Courtney's definitely distraught from Maxie deciding to change his ways. I feel like she might be more of a "problem" in the future. I put "problem" in quotes because we all know that the next time we fight, it's going to be one turn. Regardless, Wally thanked us for our help, claiming he was going to watch and protect his family. As he was leaving, we received a phone call... ...wait, what? Apparently, Steven had been developing this app for the Pokenav for quite a while. He only planned on using it in case of emergencies, and unfortunately, this seemed to be quite a shocker. We were told to meet up with him at Rustboro, where we received quite the text dump. I'm going to be much nicer and put it in a spoiler bubble to prevent this post from extending too much. Spoiler Indeed, we met up with Steven and his father, who gave us some pretty hefty backstory into the company. Why am I getting X and Y vibes from this? So now that I think about it, this is the third war mentioned by the Pokemon company, as Surge fought in a war during the events of gen 1, and the two brothers fought in a war during gen 5. Souls. It ran on souls. ... !!! HOLY SHIT! THEY'VE BEEN HARVESTING POKEMON SOULS TO CREATE THEIR TECHNOLOGY! THAT'S FUCKING DARK! After hearing this horrible truth, the president told us that they plan on using these souls in order to find a way to stop the meteor from hitting the earth. In order to help out, we would need to travel back to where we met Steven and retrieve a meteorite shard. TLDR: Shit gets dark, we're required to get a meteorite shard. As we get there, however, we found ourselves face to face with Zinnia once more! ...this is the second time we've met. I don't call that "an awful lot". Excuse me? Does anyone know how old Zinnia actually is? I only ask because my character is only ten, and I'm getting a lot of flirtatious vibes from Zinnia. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but that's pretty creepy if she's an adult flirting with a child. Of course, there was no other way to resolve this, was there? Spoiler AND WHY IS SHE A MONKEY LADY NOW?! Regardless, the battle begins with her sending out... TYRANTRUM?! THAT'S AWESOME! It really does show that we've finally made the post game. Regardless, all it takes is one Close Combat from Lundgren to finish Tyrantrum off. Apophis dominates Altaria with a Life Orb boosted Play Rough. Salamence gets off an Intimidate. Dragon Claw almost takes down Apophis. Unfortunately, Apophis can't KO due to the Intimidate. In addition, the recoil damage from Life Orb takes Apophis out. Luckily, one Achilles Rock Slide finishes the job. I'll give you this, Zinnia. You actually managed to take one of my team members down. Zinnia seemed quite excited for our victory. In fact, she was so excited, she decided to reward us with the meteorite shard we were looking for. However, as soon as we received the shard, our original meteorite began to glow. Even Zinnia took notice. It seems as if we're finally going to see what the meteorite will be used for. Given the timing, it's probably related to Rayquaza somehow, but only time will tell. As Zinnia was leaving the cave, she decided to try and instill some philosophical wisdom upon us where absolutely none was needed. Alright, Zinnia, here's what my truths are. All you've done is steal from two of my friends and then try and act way too friendly around me just to get on my good side. I know the game doesn't want me to trust you, but I'm more annoyed than anything else. Besides, I know this game's going to make me the good guy anyway no matter what I do or say, so none of these "truths" or "ideals" I have really matter in the long run. What about all of you, though? What are your thoughts on Zinnia as a character? Despite all of that, we received a call from Steven, who told us to head down to Mosdeep as soon as we could. Next time, we'll be continuing on with the Delta episode by doing just that! Current Team Spoiler
iDunno
13 hours ago, Filthy Casual said: What were your champion teams? In my first fight against the E4, my team was Sceptile (with Sceptilite), Gyarados, Gardevoir, Aggron, Manectric and Beautifly (yes, Beautifly. She was the only one of the team with a Bug and Flying attack, so I kept her throughout the whole game). The Gyarados was a shiny one, found as a Magikarp after Chain Fishing in Dewford Beach (found a Shiny Tentacool too), and the Aggron had Head Smash AND Rock Head, found with the DexNav in Granite Cave. My favorite moment in my LP was in the fight with Mega Metagross, were I was able to defeat him using only Mega Sceptile, hitting him with a Focus Blast that took half his health, and finishing him off in style with a Leaf Storm. The End Credits of ORAS is really awesome. I don't remember much about my original Ruby run, but I remember my team was terrible, with Pelipper, Exploud and Walrein being the only ones I remember, alongside Sceptile. 2 hours ago, Filthy Casual said: What are your thoughts on Zinnia as a character? I think she's really cool, just wish she was in the game a little bit more, or that she appeared in future installments. Also, her Battle Theme is my favorite piece of music in all of Pokemon. 2 hours ago, Filthy Casual said: Does anyone know how old Zinnia actually is? I don't know if it was intentional or not, but that's pretty creepy if she's an adult flirting with a child. Welp, she is definitely older than the MC (who I think is 13, actually). Some characters refer to her as "woman", while others refer to her as "young lady", so I would guess she's around 18-23. She doesn't look older than that. SPOILERS, don't read if you didn't finish the Delta Episode: Spoiler There's heavy implication that the original Aster, whom her Whismur was named after, was her daughter (or someone she had a mother-daughter relationship with) who is currently deceased, but it's never really explained. Honestly, my head canon is that it was a little sister that she looked after like a daughter, because she doesn't really look old enough to be a mother (for a Pokemon game)
Filthy Casual
Chapter 20: Unhinged With Zinnia defeated, Steven told us to meet him back at the Mosdeep Space Center. When we arrived, we ran into both Steven and... ...professor Cosmo?! It's nice to see you're not relegated to side character role this time. Cosmo had once again explained that a meteorite was coming to space. However, using the power of Pokemon souls Infinity Energy, they had found a way to avert the crisis. Cosmo had explained that if they created a warp hole, the asteroid could be warped away from their world. This could spell for the safety of their world. Steven, however, was still quite curious, wondering what would exactly happen with the meteoroid. Cosmo then gave us a really neat Easter Egg. HOLY SHIT! THEY'RE REFERENCING OLD TRADING! For those who don't remember, before Gen 4 and introduced the series to wifi, the earliest they got was using a Link Cable to trade and battle among friends. As a veteran, it's really cool to see this referenced! In fact, the plan seemed to be perfect, as this world would be left unharmed... ...but as it turns out, not everyone was quite on board. Zinnia decided to show up to express her displeasure of the idea, even going so far as to say this: While Steven tried to give his point, rather than express her points in a mature manner, she told Steven this: WOW! Worst of all, though, after saying ALL OF THAT, She has the balls to say this: WELL FUCK YOU, TOO! YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY HERE TO BLAST THEM FOR DOING WHAT THEY'RE DOING! I had recently been introduced to a comic from the webcomic "xkcd", and I think it exposes Zinnia's horrific attitude. This is what it says: Rather than explain or have a person experience a fact, Zinnia belittles you for not knowing something. If she truly wanted to save the world, she would take her time to explain her position, not get defensive... ...oh, I should probably explain that. After her outburst, Steven and I decided to try and find another meteor shard from Meteor Falls. When there, however, we found this interesting individual: This person turned out to be a descendant of the Draconid people, a clan who worshipped Rayquaza as the protector of Hoenn. Zinnia turns out to be a descendant of those people, and the only person capable of summoning Rayquaza. It's quite obvious now that her alternative is to use Mega Stones in order to summon Rayquaza and stop the meteor, but it would have been nice if that was explained to us. After retrieving the shard, we headed back to Rustboro, only to find a couple unfortunately familiar faces waiting for us. Indeed, Team Magma had not only attempted to best us in battle (LOL), but they had stolen something that could save the world... According to the professor, Team Magma had headed out to the space center. We quickly ran, only to discover a familiar sight. ...my prediction is coming true, isn't it? Called it! Unfortunately for the quintuplets, Achilles (Swampert) also has access to Surf. They never stood a chance... With them tossed aside, we ran into Steven, who was trying to talk sense into the one responsible for putting the world in immediate peril... Indeed, Courtney had been extremely traumatized over the past few days based on her leader's actions. She had claimed that Maxie's attitude, as well as all she knew, was changing rapidly. Of course, she decided to put the blame on us. Courtney's own despair brought her to a horrific conclusion... ...don't tell me... But the meteor's going to- Oh my god! When you consider her emotional state, this is one of the most high stake battles in a Pokemon game to date! Steven and I wasted no time, as we both quickly went to battle! Spoiler The battle begins with Achilles activating Mega Evolution. However, we were shocked to learn that Courtney also achieved this technique. Luckily for us, one Waterfall took Camerupt down. This allowed her to send out her next Pokemon... REALLY?! HOW THE HELL IS A GRUNT GOING TO BE A HARDER CHALLENGE THAN YOU?! In fact, I didn't even pay attention over the next couple turns, and as such, and as such, fell into Weezing's Destiny Bond trap. That's right, a FUCKING GRUNT put up more of a fight more than you! Seriously, where's the Torkoal? Ninetales? Magcargo?! CLAYDOL?! NO! This is the post game! There should be a more intense challenge than this! I don't care if it's still for younger audiences, this fight should have reflected the higher stakes of the situation more! With Courtney defeated, we were once again ready to save the world... ...only for Zinnia to sabotage our plans completely. With the dimensional shifter now in Zinnia's control, she decided to explain why she stole the shifter. Steven tried to ask what she meant. However, Zinnia gave the most arrogant answer she could possibly muster... SCREW. YOU. That's when she decided to explain that if the meteor was teleported, it could possibly teleport to another dimension. A place where... ...well... That's really cool! Referencing the old games is always a treat! However, that's when a couple things began to hit me... Spoiler 1) I didn't show it off in the beginning as I thought it wasn't relevant, but I remembered that one of the researchers in the intro cutscene said it was alive. 2) Since it's multiverse theory, there had to have been a universe where the meteoroid WAS sent to RSE So let me get this straight... crashing meteoroid... a thing that's alive... space... HOLY SHIT! WE'RE GOING TO FIGHT RAYQUAZA AND DEOXYS! With this in mind, Zinnia took this time to destroy the dimensional shifter. She then decided to do something completely in her character... ...be a stubborn jerk. Indeed, rather than actually explain why she was going to do it, she stole Courtney's key stone. In fact, that wasn't all. She then ran to Maxie and even stole his key stone. With her objective complete, Zinnia said she could finally go to the Sky Pillar to summon Rayquaza. Maxie, fearful of what would happen, decided to give us something to assist us in our battle. With that out of the way, Steven called us, requesting that we visit him at the space center once more. Next time, we will be finishing off the Delta episode. Indeed, it'll be the final part of the whole play through soon! Filthy Casual
Final Chapter: The Emerald Epilogue With Zinnia now on her way to Sky Pillar, we needed to find out how to catch her. After all, the Sky Pillar had been sealed off for years. Fortunately for us, Steven had an excellent solution for us: With Wallace's help, we were able to access the Sky Pillar. However, before we were allowed to access the sacred tower, he had one last request for us... Indeed, it was time for a fight! Spoiler The battle begins with... OH GOD, NOT HIS EMERALD TEAM! In all seriousness, Raff begins the fight by OHKOing Warlord with Giga Drain. A Sleep Powder and Giga Drain combo wear down Milotic. Ludicolo gets off an Ice Beam before Sludge Bomb takes it down. There was one this to do... Achilles is able to KO the Gyarados thanks to a couple of Rock Slides. LOL One more Earthquake is able to finish the job. You know, his Emerald team is a lot less stressful when you have a broken EXP share on your side... With Wallace defeated once more, we were granted access to the Sky Pillar. When we entered, we were greeted to none other than Zinnia! Zinnia decided to give us a long story about the history of the Hoenn region. However, here's the condensed version: Rayquaza can mega evolve. With that taken care of, we began to have a more heart-to-heart moment. Man, that would have been nice if you told Steven that. I guess he just doesn't "get it", right? And what relevance does that have to do with this? Where are you going with this...? Oh, your Whismur! That's nice to- ...did you just- WHAT?! So Zinnia lost either a daughter or a sister when she was younger (depending on her age), and that's why the Whismur is named Aster. I still hate Zinnia, and think she's my new least favorite character in the franchise, but I can't hold that against her. That has to be tough. Who knows? Maybe I can even gain a bit of respe- ...WAIT! SCREW YOU ZINNIA! With that our of the way, Zinnia was finally ready for the ritual. After a chant, as well as the sacrifice of a few mega rings, enough power was summoned to call upon none other than Rayquaza himself. Much to Zinnia's pleasure, she commanded for Rayquaza to mega evolve, allowing the world to be saved once and for all. However, unfortunately for her, the Mega Ring wouldn't react. As it turns out, even Rayquaza had been drained of energy after years of doing nothing. Side note: just look at the MC's face here. Don't you love how he's going "Hey, dumbass! I thought you were the one who was supposed to 'get it'!" All anger aside, after all of this buildup, our meteor FINALLY decided to activate. With the meteorite giving off intense energy, Rayquaza came up to it and... ...oh, dear... Indeed, it was time to fight the legendary protector himself, Rayquaza! Spoiler The battle begins with Achilles going for his mega form and going for Rock Slide. Unfortunately, Rayquaza knows it can eat a hit. As such, it sets up three Dragon Dances. Rayquaza decides to go for Fly. I decide to bring Charlotte (Ninetales) in on the switch. Needless to say, Charlotte got BLOWN THE FUCK BACK! Another Ultra Ball unfortunately fails. Rayquaza goes for Fly. I switch out to... RIP in spaghetti, never forghetti At this point, I decide to use Apophis to waste PP. After all, he DOES have Pressure. One Ultra Ball later, however... Indeed, we had conquered over an incredible legendary. With Rayquaza caught, we decided that a being of his status could only be named one thing... Shenron was forced into our party. Because I didn't feel as if she would be used for long, I decided to send Charlotte (Ninetales) back to our PC. Zinnia couldn't believe herself. Now, before we continue on, we have to zoom in on her face. It just screams "OH MY GOD THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME WHY?!" All jokes aside, as one of her final duties as the lore keeper of the Draconid people, she decided to teach Rayquaza one more move... ...and it allows Rayquaza to break the game. Before we could stop the meteor, however, Zinnia had one more task... REALLY, ZINNIA?! THERE'S A METEOR HURLING TOWARDS THE EARTH! WE DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS! However, she wouldn't hear us. There was one thing left to do... Spoiler Let me get this out of the way: I don't like this fight. The music's alright. To be honest, it's quite good. However, a theme as epic as this doesn't belong to a fight like this. The battle begins with Shenron going for a Dragon Dance while Goodra goes for Ice Beam. However, before he gets off the DD... It's safe to say Goodra didn't deserve a chance. Shenron then decides to- That thing didn't even- CAN YOU JUST LET- I'M TRYING TO- WHAT?! THAT WAS THE INTENSE FINAL SHOWDOWN?! The reality of this fight is that it's pointless. There is a giant meteor coming to the Earth, and frankly, I've already proven I'm worthy catching Rayquaza by CATCHING HIM. With Zinnia defeated, she finally decided to concede her role of protector of the region to us. With that out of the way, we were treated to quite the fun cutscene. With the Magma Suit in tow, we decided to ride on the back of Rayquaza, allowing to mega evolve in the stratosphere. With the meteor in tow, there was only one thing left to do... ...save the world. However, that wasn't the end. As soon as the debris cleared... ...well... I FUCKING CALLED THAT! Indeed, it was time for the most intense- At last, our adventure had come to an end. While returning to Earth, we had received a letter from Zinnia, saying that she had finally completed her job. As such, she was finally free to move on. Afterwards, we were treated to a multitude of cutscenes. Wait a minute... WE?! YOU DIDN'T DO JACK SHIT! Meanwhile, as seen above, Wally had received tickets to visit the Battle Frontier. Wally has indeed grown quite significantly as a character, and it's nice to see his adventure on high note. Meanwhile, at the Team Magma base... Courtney was quite guilty for almost destroying the world, even going so far as to be brought to tears by her own actions. However, this caused Maxie to say the most mature thing he's said all game: Maxie admitted to Courtney that he had not realized how loyal Courtney had been to him, understanding that the sudden change may have shattered her psyche. As such, he understood that he also held responsibility in this scenario. It's quite nice to see Maxie develop so much as a character. However, that leads us to my least favorite scene in the game (even if it's because of bias)... Don't tell me... YES! LISTEN TO HIM! YOU DON'T WANT TO LEAVE WALLACE AS THE CHAMPION! HE DOESN'T DESERVE IT! In fact, now that I think about it, why is this even happening? STEVEN'S NOT THE CHAMPION ANYWAY! This is a really lazy way to explain why Wallace is Emerald's champion. Worst of all, if they were going to have an explanation, it should have been in Emerald. All feelings aside, the next scene involved none other than Zinnia and her grandmother. Indeed, Zinnia had been told that regardless of her previous duties, not that they had been completed, it was time for her to move on. Frankly, however, I hope we never see her again. What happened next, however, led to some interesting foreshadowing. ...you're really shipping the two MCs, aren't you? Wait a minute... WAIT! OH MY GOODNESS, WE'RE ACTUALLY GOING ON A DATE WITH MAY! Yes, I know it's not actually a date, but the implications are still there. In fact, she even tells us this: With the show completed, there was one thing we could do for May... ...take her home. With that completed, we entered our house to meet our loving parents, where... ...well... While I'm not a fan of the Delta Episode as a whole, I had a blast playing and sharing this game with all of you. I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to read this. This was quite an enjoyable game, and it was really nice to share my experiences with all of you. With that being said, I'll see you all next time.
