sound of silence
Spiritomb gets a mention from me on this playthrough. If you want a way to get an easy win against randomus, set up nasty plot and smite everything in your path with dark pulse. The priority attacks also help a ton. Was very lucky to get pain split on it from its event which was a nice way to get another early tank of a pokemon. Infiltrator also helps against screens which become common after Aya. Also a great killer of all those tauros on Route 1 as they cannot touch you due to only having normal/psychic attacks. Also decent against boufflant but megahorn is a bit more problematic. Hoping to see it pull its weight against Samson soon.
Nivircity
I have to pick Arbok. the combination of Glare + Stockpile turns this snake into a destructive devil.
Shurreal
Lopunny Normal types with fighting type moves are assholes they just want to escape weaknesses from psychic and flying types Seriously, them and their smug faces
Cobalt996
It isn't surprising that Volcarona is useful. It is surprising that it solos... all leaders from Randomus on. (as of EP15) Mightyena and Houndoom are great SUCKERPUNCHERS at regaining momentum, despite movepool and stat... issues. Okay, let's be honest, I used them almost exclusively for Sucker Punch STAB. Vanilluxe, while a late addition, held its own in Charlotte's gym quite well. Oh, and Ciel. How else could I forget her? Luxray proved itself useful against Sigmund, and somehow held its own 1-on-1 with Swalot. Still not understanding that one, but... \_()_/ EDIT: Heatmor gets honorable mentions for soloing Solaris' Garchomp the first time. Growlithe, Numel, or Slugma could've done it too, but... Arisato
Adding to the Meowstic train. Also, Swalot literally saved my life against Noel. I probably wouldn't have beat him without it.
not-a-spoon
As someone who hasnt played a pokemon game between Silver and Reborn, Protean Greninja was really a special treat.

BlackEclipse
Noivern and Shedinja. Noivern once it evolves, is ridiculous high speed and with some good moves like such as hyper fang, boom burst, and hurricane, it can sweep through a lot of pokemon (when used smartly). I used one Noivern so much that it was a struggle keeping it's lvl down other wise it would disobey me. Shedinja was a big surprise to me on how much it saved me in a number of battles in later game. Thanks to it's wonder guard and having little weaknesses, I can use it as an impenetrable wall as I heal the rest of my teammates.

Personthing
Ekans/Arbok are actually pretty good in the early game, and I would have never given them a second thought before. Also the fact that you can find level 43 Donphan and Beartic in Citrine mountain means that you get 2 pokemon that are quite easy to put into your team and get to work immediately, you just gotta use a repel (if you're mid level 30s they will be the only things that show up if you use repels), and some common candies so that they don't disobey you. kithas
The volt-absorb + bide Pachirisu made my first half of the game, seriously.
Personthing
Hoothoot is actually quite a useful early game Pokemon. Its special attack isn't anything special, but getting Uproar at level 13 is pretty bonkers. Shooting off 135 base power attacks (STAB included) before you even get the first badge is quite useful, although until it becomes a Noctowl it's hindered by a base special attack of 36, and when you combine that with tinted lens, you get a hard hitting Pokemon that doesn't worry about resistances and can contribute for a good chunk of the game before Pokemon with superior offensive stats get better moves. Not to mention Hypnosis and Reflect support which can come in handy in many instances. Edited January 23, 2016 by Mighty Kamina

Lilleen
Two Pokémon suprised me during my run of Reborn, which is Pachirisu and Stoutland. Sparks (the pachirisu) was very useful in the first gym, since she had volt absorb as her ability, making Julia a piece of cake. I kept Sparks on the team for a long time, but sadly had to replace her with Dolly (the amphoros) because she was too weak to beat Ciel (which took me forever to beat even with type the advantages) Lucas (the stoutland) was a Pokémon I didn't expect to use. I thought he would stay in the PC, like a whole bunch of other Pokémon you can obtain or find wandering in randome buildings. When I first obtained the Lillipup from the old man, I didn't expect anything from him, but decided to give him a chance. Once he evolved into herdier, I was shocked at how strong Lucas was, helping me beat Shade with chrunch. He is one of the oldest member (if you can even say that) in my team beside my starter. Nevermore13
For me, it was a Wingull/ Pelipper in the early gym leaders as a water/flying type and Drifblim too. Stunky and afterwards Skuntank was until the end of the game with its Toxic move, saved me a bunch of times and Swalot in the last Gym leader.
