I'm sure there'll be moments in existing places where more options are given to us that can add/subtract rep points. I don't really see how we can get so many points otherwise, unless certain events have a rep value greater than 1, which is quite possible.
Why bother getting "competitive" mons ingame anyways? Sure, people will inevitably battle each other when the online features are ready, but any serious battling would take place on Showdown regardless.
The best way to reduce the level issues without breaking the level cap or creating crazy restrictions without taking away from trainer battles would be to reduce all incoming EXP. Even a small amount, like 5% makes a huge difference lategame with next to no notable effect early. It's not even noticeable unless you have exact EXP values memorized for some reason. Just food for thought.

They're registered as different forms of the same Pokemon, same as Castform, Mega Evolutions, and Rotom (etc)
