If you are at the beginning of the game, there is no wild growlithe avaible. In the future homewer, u get a ditto to breed more easily

I wouldnt suggest alakazam as it lacks serious offense power due to lack of move tutors and the TM's. But in the other hand gengar would deal with em without a huge worry, only downside would be getting oneshotted by the psychic mons.

This is generation 6. Sawk learns reversal at level 50. Try leveling it up before u go in again
