  1. As you mentioned, Greninja is hindered much by the lack of TMs/Tutors, and you will feel that until very late in the game. Torchic is an easy mode. Generally, fire starters are the best choice, but on the other hand, you have access to growlithe early in the game.

I would like to add that I am also having trouble balancing the translation and showing what was really wanted. An example of this would be in this part:

You see, the translations are either faithful or beautiful. The whole art is balancing it, so it sounds good and carries the original, widely understood meaning, as far as possible.

Also i started translating the extracted text file, just because i felt like it......and even though i translated somewhere between about 200-300 lines of dialogue by now, i am still nowhere...

Add all items' and moves' descriptions, pokedex entries - this is a hell lot of text. I'm planning to translate Reborn too, but as years pass by, life happens and I have less and less time - definitely a team is needed for that. I used to translate scientific papers (both ways) as a side job during my uni, but localising the whole Reborn is on another level. I don't want to think about working on Terra's lines. Also, in general, the names should not be translated - but for instance, "Florinia": this is so good material to create a gentle, better sounding name, I'd make an exception here (not to mention Shade, lol). The creativity is time consuming, and there are so many things like that...!

  4. The developers are okay with the translations, you can search the forums, I'm pretty much sure the teams will assemble for every major language. Somebody even already extracted the whole text from the game (including moves, descriptions, etc.), but I strongly recommend waiting with that for the very final release of the game, for various reasons. This will be A LOT of script to localise, though.

Considering that the EP19 story part is already done i highly doubt that Ame will change any part of the story. However, if Elias does survive the story somehow and is still around in the post game, i wouldn't be surprised if Ame may consider using our random theory crafting (or whatever comes out of it) for a post game encounter.

But in all honesty i wouldn't bet on that....

Well, main story line was finished, in case big bad powers came in and decided to make us disappear. Adding few variables, copied from Amaria's gym fight (she has two teams, right) and adding one more team to Elias doesnt need to be very demanding, though I'd understand if there are no chances for that.

Even better, if this choices were independent from those shade/anna +1 choices that are supposed to be leading to the best ending.

  6. For the champion battle we will receive something special. Dont forget that technically, Lin is the Champion now. As of E4, it is Elias, Heather, Laura+Bennet, double battle (given the story circumstances and this garden-or-so field, it is almost certain) and Anna. The other options are Laura and Bennet separate (and no Anna), but taking into account the fields and the plot, this is the least possible. Alternatively, the spot in E4 remains the same, but it depends on our choices if we fight Laura OR Bennet. So or so, we have no other candidates for E4 left, unless we will receive some twist like Cal, Blake or Sirius getting into E4 out of blue, but this would be wrong if we take into account the characters development; there's not much room here left.

I've seen some posts online about players/fans seeing some benefits from the queer characters/stories. Have these queer characters/stories affected you in some way? How does it feel to have queer characters in a Pokemon game? What would you like to see in terms of queer characters/stories in the future?

I can answer all at once: as one of the very 1st characters we meet is gay it was somehow remarkable, later on I can only see the effect of these characters through the prism of story/design/depth, similar to my previous post. In short, as long as these characters are well-designed and fits into the story, I have no expectations towards them.

Do you mind sharing the abstract or at last the title of your thesis?

  8. A paper done on Reborn, that's interesting. Developers might be proud 😄

What led you to Pokemon Reborn?

Once I stumbled upon a screenshot showing all starter pokemon available somwhere in the internet (some forums or 9gag it was?), decided to give it a try, mainly because original Pokemon games are targeted towards younger audience what has a lot of consequences to the gameplay, plot, topics covered, etc. Plus, the creators are very rarely listening to the fanbase and fan games tend to mend the flaws.

What do you think about the battle system in the game?

It is demanding and, unless you achieve victory by some cheap tactics or pure luck, satisfying. Forces you to make changes and adjustment for the upcoming challanges. Of course there is always brute force and 100 tries methodology, but from my point of view, the point of this battle system is to go out of the box -  abuse the enemy's and its field traits, adapt, take a step back and rethink your strategy and the most importantly, it sometimes forces you (and shows you) that sometimes party members that are generally considered useless or weak, may turn out to be your ace and the trump card.

What do you think about the stories/narrative in the game?

That's what keeps us here for all these years, waiting for another chapter. The grim tone of the game finally utilizes the variety and potential that Pokemon world provides. The scenario quality has its ups and downs (I'd say with more downs in the later chapters), but still outmatches a lot of stories, professional or fan-made, that I know. Important thing to note: a lot of the characters and parts of the plot are based on real people and real events - I caught myself thinking about one part ''what a rather poor cliche'' just to learn afterwards that this actually happened.

In particular, what do you think about the queer characters in the game, like Cain and Adrienn?

While generally well-written and rooted in the in-game world (Adrienn is great, Cain even in his cringy and too much of a stereotype moments (comic-relief I guess) somehow still fits), I find these pieces of plot being slightly overrepresented - this impression might come from the Titania-Amaria story arc (lesbian couple) that in my opinion takes way too much screentime and weighs over the story heavily.

(On the other hard, since the very beginning we meet a lot of strong, meaningful and distinct female characters, while for big part of the game the only expressive, masculine characters are in the evil team. To put it into perspective - on the ''good'' side we have the whole range from caring Amaria, through cold Florinia, to caddish Charlotte (and the rest of the sisters, including killer-instinct Sapphira), while all males on our side (with significant amount of screen time) consists of girly Cain and child Noel. There is also Fern, who is completely unlikable character. I guess my above claim may be backed in this imbalance of characters).

I hope you share with us your thesis, or at last its ''Reborn'' parts!

good I was worried that I might have made the game too easy for myself.

It really depends on the individual, your playstyle, your team composition, etc. Gyms considered too hard by the majority may be easy for you and vice versa.

Fern is likely going to help fight against team meteor once he's backed up against a corner in the interest of self preservation and probably be targeted from his betrayal. I have a hard time believing he would be killed and would be saved by his own sister

This. Way more likely than a redemption cliche. He will not die, and after all, it seems he really does care about Florinia in his own way, as mentioned above - like, he knows it would be much better if she was finally able to cope with her feelings. I dont think he would seriously hurt anyone by a direct act, he would like to be the best, but through a rather regular competition (in the school he was respected) or joining the power house. I just cant wait for a clash between these sibilings, the outcome gonna be interesting - Florinia applying ''corrections'' to Fern, or Fern actually winning at last.

That wouldn’t really count though since you’d still be alive at the end of Episode 19. And it’s not good for drama in any case for death to be something you can walk off.

I'm not saying it would be good, I'm saying it may happen, even though I don't think so. I think we can expect Sirius and/or Solaris to die, we will be revealed what kind of creation is Lin, Zero may lose his mind completely. I dont think Fern or Florinia will die, but I cant wait to see their clash.

  12. You guys keep forgetting that levels are somewhat only and pure in-game mechanics ''for us'', meaning game characters are not aware of any levels (with the exception for leaders telling us about the level cap), it is more like level reflects a mixture of trainer's ability to command and use a pokemon in battle, how well it was trained and mon's own power and experience (in literal meaning, not exp. points).

  13. Naaah, this is too subjective. Too much of it depends on the team and the player. For example, Noel or Charlotte never caused me much trouble, Shade varies from one playthrough to another being harder and easier, while Ciel is a pain in the back to me almost always. I'd never place Titania, Amaria, or Charlotte that high anyway, Amaria is a total pushover for me invariably, but Hardy turned out really strong against in my last play. We may all agree that Luna is weak, but there is really few leaders we may easily and objectively classify like that.

  14. I'd put Delphox one level up, or even two, and Charizard up two levels (Delphox has VERY useful typing in reborn, usefulness throughout the whole game, while Charmander destroys early like it's nothing, only slightly dropping off later when you get access to better fire types), Decidueye one level up (he's suprisingly decent for a very long time, and even later you can rely on him - he's constantly good, not perfect, but all time good in many situations and settings, you just dont need to try hard to get him rolling in reborn). Greninja is disappointing in reborn, as mentioned in many posts above, down two levels.

  15. And that future follows shortly after...

''That future'' is our ''now'' - Anna sees that they cannot prevail the enemy, so she wishes for us to save the world again, so our story follows the events described in the prohpecy. From the prophecy perspective, its future is our now.

Shining armor strikes, Azure hair is re-dyed red. An enemy of his own blood stands before him, And beaded hope breaks apart upon the tattered stones of a city forced to live up to its name once again.

If we break this down a little bit, we have few options:

    1) Shining armor strikes, Azure hair is re-dyed red. - Titania strikes something, maybe dies during the process - saving Amaria? Titania's blood makes Amaria's azure hair red? - this one seems farfetched. Also, it may mean Cal goes back to Meteor, what would fit this weakling.

    2) Azure hair is re-dyed red. An enemy of his own blood stands before him - if we assume these two sentences are describing the same event, this may imply it is Cal vs. Blake.

    3) An enemy of his own blood stands before him - this sentence solo may mean Taka standing against Solaris's will, Cal vs. Blake, Florinia confronting Fern (no way Florinia is a Meteor)...

    4) An enemy of his own blood stands before him, And beaded hope breaks apart upon the tattered stones  - ...or Corey (beaded hope?) compromised in front of Heather, killing himself as a consequence. Or Fern losing to Florinia, breaking apart on the streets before her, as he is ''beaded'' in the same prophecy. Or all of the above. Imo, this ''prophecy'' has nothing to do with our future events, it reaveals that Shade is actually a taciturn woman, that Reborn go in cycles, etc.

  16. If u smash quick save button quickly, in few moments, like after the battle but before the dialogue starts (or when the characters are moving in the even, but not talking yet, you get it) you can save, this works in most of the other chain battles etc. - tough keep in mind, you might want to go back and set up for the fight differently, so you may want to keep backup saves.

If I recall correcty, you need to stay downstairs in order to get Saphira kidnapped, what makes for branched story part where Laura is partner for you afterwards in Meteor battle, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Like, 95%, but not 100%.
