While it doesn't make much sense to blame global warming for every localized and individual phenomenon, it's a fact that the warmer oceans are, the stronger hurricanes get. And global warming does make oceanic waters progressively warmer.

Irmas are likely to be more common in the decades to come, especially if the pace of global warming increases.
