  1. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Mio nodded as Jason pointed out the Magnemite. "No, I think you're right," he whispered. "They're probably feeding off the electricity here... we should avoid disturbing them, in my opinion. Not only is this their territory, we're both at a type disadvantage. I don't want to get into any fights we can avoid, especially not when we're so far from a Pokecenter."
  2. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Mio gasped as Brendan and Jack vanished, but despite being worried, he held his ground. Panicking wouldn't help anyone; he had to think. In all likelihood, it was the same sort of anomaly the group had experienced earlier. Jack and Brendan had probably just warped to somewhere inside the building. Still, it didn't hurt to be cautious. "Jason, I don't think we should run in after them right away," Mio said. "We don't know what's on the other side, and we might not even be transferred to the same place as they were." Mio looked around and grabbed a long, thin stick off of the ground. Properly armed, he walked up to the door, stopping just short of where Brendan and Jack had disappeared. He stuck his makeshift tool through the doorway, trying to use the stick to see if there was anything dangerous on the other side of the warp.
  3. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig up the Dreamyard!" - Mio "In my opinion, it'd be a waste of time to go look for another way in." Mio said, examining the group's dilapidated surroundings. "Even if there were any, a lot of them have probably collapsed by now and it'd be dangerous to try and climb through any broken windows. Why don't we break off into pairs and go floor by floor? It's safer than everyone going off on their own, plus we can still cover more ground than if we stuck together."
  4. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Jason's comment left Mio feeling oddly defensive, but before he could figure out how to respond, there was a disturbance in the underbrush. He caught a glimpse of a bright pair of blue eyes, but they didn't stick around for long. As soon as Jason was finished speaking, whatever Pokémon it was took off through the underbrush, leaving behind a trail of disturbed grass. "Well, yes, but--" Mio began, but Jason didn't bother to wait for a response before speeding after the mystery Pokémon. "Jason, wait!" He ran after his friend, pushing through the tall grass with some difficulty. Being unable to see the ground slowed him down, but he managed to keep Jason in his sight until the other trainer suddenly vanished. Guessing the jist of what had happened, Mio pushed forwards until, sure enough, he found Jason lying on his back in the dirt. "You should really be more careful." he said, leaning over and offering the other trainer his hand. "What would we do if you got hurt?"
  5. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig Up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Mio nearly jumped straight out of his skin as someone leaned into him. For half a second he panicked, thinking the weight on his shoulder was Jason, but he relaxed as he realized it was only Brendan. "Arceus, you scared me!" he laughed. "Um, yeah, I'll try and warn you before you swing anything over twenty pounds into the air, but maybe start by not picking up random wild Pokemon in the first place, ok?" He returned Brendan's grin with a half sheepish, half reproachful smile of his own before swinging into full nerd mode. "And, yeah. I saw a fletchling in the lab and... looking at the data, it seems like a good choice. The typing would help cover both Loam and Meena's weaknesses, and Loam covers or will cover for most of its weaknesses. Plus, it seems pretty easy to get along with, which is pretty much a prerequisite for anything that's going to be on a team with Meena." He frowned as he continued. "But... Meena hates birds. They're a phobia of hers. So I'm worried she might not react well to having one on her team." He shrugged, the movement suppressed by Brendan's weight. "You... probably weren't looking for a rant on team dynamics though, huh." he forced a laugh. Brendan was a nice guy--they were all nice guys--but Mio still wasn't sure how much he could talk before they started getting annoyed.
  6. Dreamyard - "Let's Go Dig Up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Mio blinked as Brendan hefted the slowpoke into the air, trying to remember the average weight of a slowpoke. He couldn't remember exactly, but it was in the ballpark of 'fairly heavy.' "Wow, Brendan," he said. "You must be pretty strong! Aren't slowpoke... seventy pounds or so?" He pulled out his pokedex and scanned Brendan's new friend, eyebrows raising as he looked over the data. "Wow, yeah, eighty pounds on average..." he trailed off as he studied the other information, eyeing some of it skeptically. He barely noticed the noise that had Jason on edge, and merely nodded absently as his friend urged them onward. "We should probably stick together as much as possible, too." Mio said, although he was still concentrating mostly on his Pokedex. He hadn't had a chance to really look into the data from the Fletchling he'd scanned earlier and was now going through that. A flying type would be a fantastic addition to his team, especially considering Loam's soon to be double weakness to grass-types. But Meena was terrified of birds... he frowned, deep in thought. Still pouring over the Pokedex, he started to move forwards, narrowly missing a pool of water.
  7. Striaton City, Fennel's House - "Let's Go Dig Up the Dreamyard!" - Mio Mio had passed out almost immediately after reaching the Pokecenter the night before, both Meena and a freshly-revived Loam curled up next to him. Consequently, he was feeling refreshed and energetic. As the group approached Dr. Fennel's house, he was practically bouncing with excitement. Dr. Fennel's research wasn't exactly within his field of study, but he made it his business to know as much as he could about any given science-related subject. Her recent project on Castelia's power source had been of particular note to him, although that was mainly because it involved Electrode. They stepped into Dr. Fennel's house and Mio could barely restrain himself from letting out a small gasp. It was a fairly small area, but every inch of it had been converted into lab space. He craned his neck as Dr. Fennel's assistant led them to the stairs, deeply regretting he couldn't stay and examine some of the experiments. He really wanted the data on the various Pokemon scattered around the room. Upstairs, Dr. Fennel wasted no time before launching into her explanation of the "errand." She seemed harried, which he decided meant that she would not appreciate any off-topic questions. When she was finished with Brendan, Mio chimed in. "About the Dreamyard, is there anything in particular we should know? Unusually strong Pokemon, active security systems left over from the facility... anything else that could be used as a trap? Or... just anything out of the ordinary in general, actually." He definitely didn't want to walk into another Braviary-type situation without some forewarning.
  8. Striaton City - "A Long Awaited Arrival!" - Mio Mio winced as Bianca snapped at him, but he didn't have time to mumble an apology. Before he knew it, the Emboar he'd been drooling over grabbed him by his backpack and lifted him into the air. The group made off towards the Pokecenter, leaving Benga's group behind without further ado. Mio was ecstatic. He wasn't exactly heavy, but still, seeing firsthand the raw strength of a fully evolved, three-stage pokemon was a treat. Especially when it wasn't trying to kill him. He reached for his Pokedex and scanned his ride with it, devouring all the information it gave him. He reached up and patted the Emboar's arm as he did so, both as an appreciative gesture and to get a sense of its musculature. "Mega Fire Pig," he mumbled. "Average of three hundred and thirty pounds, fire and fighting types... oh, there's no details on anatomy." He scowled at his dex. "Well, most organic pokemon have fairly high bone density and extra fat for padding... Fighting types also tend to have higher muscle mass than other types. What I really want to know is how you produce your fire." He craned his neck up to look at the Emboar's 'beard' of fire. "I guess it's some kind of chemical produced by the skin? But there must also be some kind of internal organ..." He trailed off, realizing Bianca's pokedex would probably have more information. Still, she'd clearly been in a bad mood just a few minutes earlier and he didn't want to push too hard. Bianca was a little too high-energy for him, but she wasn't like Benga and company. Mio actually cared about her opinion of him. "Bianca..." he began, but changed his mind mid-sentence. "Um. N-never mind. Sorry." He gritted his teeth, berating himself mentally. That was almost worse than just spitting it out.
  9. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio let out a shuddering sigh as Meena's attack landed and Helios went down, thanks to Gomez and Jason. All the adrenaline in his system vanished with the last dregs of dust kicked up by the battle, leaving him weak and exhausted. It took all his strength not to just fall over on the spot. Meena trotted over to him, bruised and battered but otherwise fine. She was riding high on her conquest, although she did spare a grateful nod to Gomez. She was proud; not stupid. Even she knew she would've been toast if he hadn't have been there. Mio leaned down and and jumped up to his shoulder, curling around his neck as he stood. She practically radiated heat, and the combination of that, her soft fur, and her gentle purring made him even sleepier than he had already been. Still, Benga's little speech made his gut swirl with mixed emotions. He was glad to be praised by such a strong trainer, and glad to see that he wasn't as cruel as he'd originally seemed, but Mio wasn't happy to hear that he'd be back. He took the money Benga offered and shoved it in his pockets to give to Hugh later. "I guess next time you'll have to take us seriously," he said. "Maybe try and get better taunts by then though? My dad is--" He nearly jumped out of his skin as a crash sounded from behind him and he whipped around, suddenly back on high alert. His eyes lit up like the sun as he spotted the source: a massive, imposing Emboar. It was probably two feet taller than him and looked like it could crush him with its bare hands. Letting out a soft gasp of adoration, Mio hurried over to the Emboar without a second thought for his new rivals. Meena dropped from his shoulder as he did so, clearly not sharing her trainer's love for disgustingly powerful Pokemon. She instead sat rather huffily next to Jason, her tail thumping the dirt in irritation. "An Emboar!" Mio cooed, sounding more like he was talking to a baby Lillipup than a full-grown sumo-wrestling pig that could kill him with ease. He looked around, trying to deduce who its trainer was. Not Jack's, probably not the creepy pink girl or her friends', which left... "Bianca, is this... are you this Emboar's trainer?" he asked, eyes glittering. "Can-- May I have a look? It's been so long since I've seen a fully-evolved, three-stage pokemon up close out of battle, I have to study it, do you mind?"
  10. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio "I thought that much was obvious," Mio mumbled in response to Benga's taunts. In reality, he'd just plain forgotten about those studies, but no one needed to know that. Besides, they were relatively new and Mio was both caught off guard and under a good amount of pressure. Jason's double attack plan was cut off before it could be launched in earnest, but Mio was undeterred. Following Jason's shout of encouragement, he nodded and turned to Meena. "Meena, use Scratch! Put all your weight behind it, but watch out for that Ember!" Meena spared no time, setting off in a sprint as soon as Mio was done speaking. She reached the edge of the gooey mess Helios had made and tensed her back legs, as if she were about to jump, but instead darted left, circling around behind the Larvesta as fast as she could. She leaped at him, all four sets of claws bared and ready to dig into her opponent.
  11. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio gritted his teeth as Meena took a full-on hit from Benga's Larvesta, but judging by Jason's anguished cries, Gomez was in much worse shape. After making sure Meena was getting back up, Mio whirled around to see Gomez laid out flat on the ground, barely awake. He sucked in a breath, but the Treecko wasn't out of the fight just yet, although Benga and Perona seemed to think differently. Speaking of the pair of bullies, they were starting to get under Mio's skin yet again. Perona in particular was having an effect, although not in the way she was probably expecting. What was with these people and the "Mommy" thing? All his life people were asking where his mother was. He was tired of hearing about it, and tired of explaining that she'd never existed. Even before his papa had died, everyone was always asking about it. Mio had never understood why it was so damn impossible for people to understand that he had two dads. Then again, Perona and Benga were clearly just plain jerks. They made fun of Rascal, of Loam, they called Meena filthy, and now they were using Gomez's near-defeat as fuel for their insults. Mio didn't mind a little trash-talk, but this utter lack of respect for Pokemon was obscene. He reared back, ready to snap, but Gomez got there first. Mio's jaw dropped as the little Treecko practically exploded with power and totally overwhelmed the Misdreavus, providing the best comeback possible in the midst of a battle. Mio had to restrain himself from cheering as Perona recalled Talzin. Respect, he reminded himself. He didn't want to be anything like these two. Benga insulting his own friend cemented that feeling, although the following jab at Jason threw him for a loop. "Boyfr--" he cut himself off, shaking his head and trying desperately to stop himself from blushing. Judging from the burning sensation in his face and ears, he was failing. Praying no one would notice, he turned to Jason. "I, uh, I've only heard about it in class, but I'm pretty sure that was Gomez's ability." he began, stuttering slightly out of embarrassment. "It's called Overgrow. When a pokemon with Overgrow is low on health, they get an increase in power that strengthens their grass-type moves. Once they're out of danger, it dissipates." Mio had to physically restrain himself from blabbering on about similar abilities in other types. They were still in the middle of a battle.
  12. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten And Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio "Alright Meena, let's go!" Mio called. They were too slow to stop Helios from scoring a hit on Gomez, but the Treecko was still in the fight and they were going to make sure he stayed that way. "Use Screech, then follow up with Scratch!" Meena turned on Helios and took a deep breath before letting out a horrible yowl in an attempt to throw him off-guard. Wasting no time, she then sprinted towards the bug-type, feinting to the left before going in with claws bared.
  13. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio glowed with pride as Meena sank her teeth into Talzin, though as usual, she seemed a bit too enthusiastic. He wasn't exactly in the mood to tell her to take it easy, though. She landed gracefully on her feet after the Misdreavus threw her off, but Gomez had barely managed to dodge an Ember from Helios. The treecko was obviously having a hard time, and probably wouldn't survive a hit from Benga's Pokemon. Meena wouldn't be able to take him out on her own, but maybe she was fast enough to harry him into ignoring Gomez until Talzin was out. There wasn't a lot of time to strategize, but Mio addressed Jason quickly and quietly without taking his eyes off the fight. "I think we can keep that Larvesta off of you guys until the Misdreavus is out," he muttered. "But if you have any better ideas I'm definitely listening."
  14. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio "Ah, shit," was the only thing Mio could think to say as Loam's shot of water whizzed into the distance. Helios's absorb drained her straight into unconciousness, and Mio was forced to return her to his Pokeball. "Sorry girl," he said. Benga's taunts were definitely hitting home, but Mio refused to respond. He'd been too riled up and it cost Loam another battle, so this definitely wasn't the time to get bent out of shape about some ginger prick's jibes. He nodded at Meena, who stepped forwards into the battlefield. Time to step it up, he thought. Helios was still a problem, but this Talzin was too good of a support to be left alone for long. "Meena, let's start things off with Bite on that Misdreavus!" Meena darted past the Larvesta as fast as she could, bounding towards Gomez. She leaped over him, her fangs covered in an evil aura, ready to take out a chunk of Talzin's health.
  15. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio swore. He hadn't noticed the Psywave coming for Loam, and although she hadn't taken much damage from it, it made it clear he needed to step up his game. As the Misdreavus's amulet shone and Confuse Ray appeared in Loam's face. Meanwhile, Helios was charging her with a Take Down. Gomez managed to throw it off a bit, but if Loam didn't dodge, she'd be in bad shape. "Loam!" he shouted, but Confuse ray had done its work. She stumbled from side to side as if drunk. "Come on girl! Dodge!" Mio called, desperate. Loam managed to dive to her left just as Helios careened into her, but she still took a hard hit. Stumbling to her feet, the little Mudkip winced as she stumbled around to face Benga's bug. Mio gritted his teeth, but he wasn't ready to call Loam back just yet. If she could just take out that Larvesta, Meena and Gomez could handle the rest with relative ease. "Loam! Give me one last Water Gun! I know you can do it! Aim straight ahead!" Loam planted all four feet as best she could and inhaled, her cheeks swelling with water. Her vision was swimming and doubled, but she managed to fire her attack in the general direction of Helios.
  16. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio There wasn't time to think before the battle began in earnest. Within seconds, Rascal was confused and Jason was forced to withdraw him, Gomez taking his place. Mio gritted his teeth in frustration. Benga and Perona were clearly people who could back up all their talk. Still, Mio and Jason had come out ahead with worse odds. Once Gomez had Helios restrained, Mio responded quickly. "Loam, Water Gun on the bug!" Loam didn't need any further prompting, letting off a shot of water aimed at the Larvesta's face. Mio didn't think that would end it, but maybe Gomez's attack could drain away enough of the Larvesta's health for the next hit to KO. Unfortunately, he had no clue what to do about Psywave. He hesitated, wondering if it would work, before ordering: "Now, try and throw off that Psywave! Water gun!" Loam obeyed, whirling around to fire another bullet of water at the wave of psychic energy headed for Gomez.
  17. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio's urge to fanboy over Benga's rare Pokemon was dampened by his exhaustion, but he still had to tear his gaze away as Jason spoke. "I think our best bet is with Loam," he said. "She has the type advantage over Larvesta, which will probably draw their attention away from Gomez. She can take more hits than Meena can, too." On cue, Loam pranced forwards to stand next to Gomez. Her confidence was obvious from the way she held herself, but Mio wasn't so sure. He gritted his teeth and glared over at his opponents, trying to shake off his unease. "Let's not be reckless..." he muttered, mostly to himself. It was true he was tired, but he still wanted to win.
  18. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio released Meena and Loam, the two pokemon already raring to go as they emerged. Meena sensed the tense nature of this battle and quickly quelled her partner's cute, excited dancing. She eyed the enemy Misdreavus with apprehension, well aware most of her attacks would do nothing to it. Loam, however, was confident; she'd faced down a lot worse than some silly screaming ghost that day. Mio clenched his fists, waiting for Benga to release his Pokemon. He couldn't help but try and guess at what is was -- Perona had something befitting her quirks, so what would Benga have? A dark type? Maybe a Pawniard? He just hoped it wasn't something ridiculous. They'd be in deep shit if they went up against a Dragon-type.
  19. Striation City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio drew back as his challenge was accepted, ignoring Perona's little display. He was beginning to cool off just enough to think logically; some trick from a hex maniac wasn't about to disturb him. The best partner for a double battle had to be... "Jason," he said, looking back at his friend. "Wanna take 'em out with me?" He attempted a winning smile, although his gritted teeth made it feel more like a grimace. Loam and Gomez together had good type coverage, and Rascal's helping hand would be a boon no matter what. Jack had Lara, but she didn't get along with either of Mio's Pokemon. Bad teamwork would end a fight before it started, and Mio wasn't about to lose now that he'd finally taken a step up. Especially not to these over-groomed, jumped-up gangsters.
  20. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio massaged his temples and shoved his money back in his pocket as Hugh paid up. Maybe it was just the fatigue talking, but the self-righteous, stuck-up brat was starting to get on his nerves. Why couldn't he have just gone to the damn Pokecenter? What was so important that he had to risk his neck while Mio and the rest were out here trying to protect it? Pride? And to make matters worse, the gang's attention was now focused on Mio himself. It wasn't like he wasn't used to it, but it was still grating. Especially after nearly having died several times just that day. Jason moved in front of him, defending Mio with measured tenacity. It was sweet, and pretty cool, but Mio was just too tired to swoon the way he normally would have. Then the crown-haired trainer made some jab about Professor Juniper, and that was the last straw. "No," he said. It was both a reply to Jack and his own inner thoughts spilling out. "You know what? No. I'm done." He moved around Jason, walking straight up into "Benga's" personal space and stared him down. He had reached critical levels of exhaustion, and he was ready to do something stupid. "First of all, I don't have a damn 'mommy.'" He spat, jabbing a finger in the red-haired man's face. "Second of all--" he whirled on the crown guy. "--Professor Juniper has done more for the scientific community than your tiny little Slakoth brain could hope to accomplish in a lifetime." He hissed as he spoke, eyes narrowing nearly to slits. "Lastly," he said, turning back to Benga, "The only thing I forgot to pack this morning was enough patience to deal with some punk with too much hair-gel and his little band of freaks." Each word was accompanied by a jab of his finger, prodding his enemy's chest. He might regret this later, but right now all his common sense and learned fear was gone. "So let's just get this shit over with so I can go take an Arceus-damned nap, okay?"
  21. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio shuddered as the group proceeded, feeling someone's eyes on him. He stared dead ahead, trying to avoid making any unnecessary eye contact, even as he saw out of his peripheral vision that the gang was fanning out in a rather threatening way. He was so tense that the sudden appearance of the Misdreavus scared him so badly he actually jumped backwards a bit, but it wasn't the Pokemon itself that had scared him. In fact, he adored Misdreavus; he had fond memories of playing with his father's Mismagius as a child. He almost wanted to stay and check it out, but the sound of the bloodthirsty woman behind him dragged him back into the reality of the situation. Mio was very tempted to take Jack's advice to the next level and just book it to the Pokecenter, a desire which was exacerbated by Bloodthirsty's enraged shouting. Still, he couldn't help but snort as she called herself 'cute.' She looked more like a possessed doll than a person. But at the apparent leader's behest, Mio turned around. The adrenaline flooding his body was somehow managing to make him even more tired than he already was, and seeing an easy way out, he latched onto it. "A-alright." He nearly choked on the word. "I-- I dunno about everyone else, but... I'll pay up." he rustled around in his pockets and pulled out half his Pokedollars, scowling at the meager amount he'd be left with. He held out the money in his fist for the other trainer to come get, reluctant to come closer to the other, larger group of trainers. BAG Update: - 100
  22. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy! - Mio Mio gave a small start as Jason touched his shoulder. He'd been wrapped up in considering the gang of trainers and how they'd respond to Brendan's plan, but his friend's kind encouragement brought him back down to earth, though he had to fight off a blush as Jason gave him one of his award-winning smiles. Even as he turned away and deferred leadership to Brendan, Mio couldn't help but feel a swell of admiration for him. He followed Brendan with some hesitation as the group approached Hugh and his tormentors. He nodded, polite but terrified, to the gang as Brendan spoke and hurried after him as he steered Hugh away. Mio knew he was a target; no need to end up catching these bullies' eyes.
  23. Striaton City, Gate Battlefield - "Beaten and Bloodied! Stop the Feeding Frenzy!" - Mio Mio couldn't help but let out an audible groan as he saw Bianca waiting for them. He was so exhausted. He just wanted to get to the Pokemon center and have a nice, long, rest. Knowing Bianca, and for that matter, his luck, he was probably going to have to fight a giant hydreigon with his bare hands or something. And sure enough, he walked into the scene of yet another small crisis. At least she's not gonna try and kill me, he thought, watching the end of Hugh's fight with a cute but creepy girl in pink. He retracted that thought when he caught her licking her lips, bloodlust practically oozing from her. As if that weren't bad enough, she was quickly surrounded by five others, all equally as terrifying, and all converging on Hugh. "I think it might be bad if we started a fight now..." he said tentatively, voice lowered to keep the veritable gang's attention away from himself. "Is there a way we can avoid this? I don't think I could really talk them down-- I'm very, um... bulliable. And tired." He winced as he spoke, feeling the weight of both the day's exertions and his troubled childhood.
  24. Route 2, Russet Ridge - Mio Mio reluctantly dragged his attention away from Gary to the discussion at hand. The Ranger clearly knew what he was talking about, rattling off specific local Pokemon species and biology with easy confidence. It was safe to say that if he thought his Pokemon was fine, it was probably fine. However, Jason's plan was a more difficult problem. Part of Mio wanted to just get on with it and get to civilization as soon as possible, but the prospect of traveling the ridge at night didn't seem safe to him. Plus, he couldn't deny that he wanted to spend more time speaking with the Ranger. He clearly had a wealth of experience and knowledge that Mio could stand to learn from. "Guys, I think we should listen to Mr... uh, the ranger," he said. "I'm not really eager to camp out but I'm also really not eager to do more sprinting. I think we could all use a rest, anyways." He bit his lip, wondering if he came off as angry or mean and then added: "...but I'll do whatever everyone else wants."
