Route 2, Russet Ridge - "Onwards to Striaton City" - Mio Mio leaned heavily against the wall of the canyon, forcing himself to take slow and deep breaths. He could barely hear Jason over the sound of his own heart pounding, but he nodded anyways. Never hurt to look like you were paying attention. The sight of a Bibarel pushed him out of "rest mode" and into "check out that Pokemon" mode faster than the newcomer could open his mouth. Mio whipped out his Pokedex and scanned the fat beaver with an enthusiasm only slightly dampened by exhaustion. He got down on one knee to look closer at the Bibarel, noting with some concern its vacant, or perhaps just disinterested expression. "I don't mean to be rude," he began, addressing the man in the red cap without looking up from his Pokemon. "But is your Bibarel okay? It seems... unfocused." Maybe it was standard for a Bibarel, but Mio couldn't be sure without asking.

Route 2, Russet Ridge - Onward to Striaton City! - Mio Mio took off just after Brendan, following his advice as best he could. It was getting harder to keep up though; the steep incline and fast pace both taking their toll on the young man, who was beginning to realize just how much he wasn't a cross-country runner.

Route 2, Russet Ridge - "Onwards to Striaton City" - Mio Mio plodded behind Brendan, panting. He hadn't gone on any long runs after getting his skates. Especially not with such an intense uphill slope. Or an angry Braviary trying to kill him. His exhaustion made him slow when the screeching bird-dad swooped down, talons extended to catch or gut any unsuspecting humans. He shut his eyes, preparing for the impact, but luckily for him Brendan got to him first. The other boy caught Mio by his jacket and yanked him hard against the wall of the overhang, his back thudding against the hard rock. The Braviary screeched its rage at being denied revenge. "Wow, ok," Mio laughed, heart fluttering. "Super thought I was gonna die there, so... Thanks." He had a feeling he was going to almost die a whole lot more before he got to Striaton.

Route 2, Russet Ridge - "Onwards to Striaton City!" - Mio Mio gulped audibly as he watched first Jason and then Jack propel themselves across the gap, but as the Braviary let out another screech above him, he knew it was either jump or die. He took a deep breath as he backed up for a running start, throwing himself into a run and launching over the drop. He scrambled for a purchase as his stomach hit the edge of the divide, panic giving him strength. With Jack and Jason's help, he pushed himself over the ledge and crawled away from it, winded and sweating the way only exhilarated fear can make you sweat.

Route 2, Russet Ridge - Onward to Striaton City - Mio Just as he was going to call to the others to be careful, someone snapped a branch. The silence that followed made a cold wave of dread wash over Mio, one that was immediately confirmed by the cacophony of terrified squawking that came next. As if that hadn't been bad enough, one of the young Rufflet came tumbling out of its nest, hitting its head on the way down. The little thing let out an almost comical wail, tears pouring out of its eyes. He was tempted to help it for the half second before he spotted what was presumably the young bird's father. Mio let out his own frightened squawk as he spotted the large, angry raptor barreling towards his group. He broke into a run, careful to avoid the downed baby bird.

Route 2, Russet Ridge - "Onward to Striaton City!" - Mio Mio had been making the climb in pensive silence before remembering that Jack apparently had a story to tell. He opened his mouth to ask, but his attention moved elsewhere as a loud squawk sounded above him. He looked up and spotted bright orange beaks at the top of the ridge, followed by a near cacophony of squawking. "Woah," he whispered. "That's a lot of birds... I'm glad I put Meena up." His voice was low and quiet; he had no intention of startling such a large flock of bird pokemon.

Route 2 Main Path - Onwards to Striaton City - Mio Mio hummed in curiosity after Jack hung up, the other boy's enigmatic response leaving him filled with questions. "Jack says he'll meet us there," he said to Jason. "He sounded ok but it... looks like something happened? I hope it's nothing... y'know, like earlier." Mio shuddered, remembering the attack on the Pokécenter.

Route 2 Main Path - Onwards to Striaton City - Mio Mio's XTransciever rang not long after his original call. He picked up immediately, scanning Jack for any signs of injury or distress through the video feed the XTransciever provided. "Jack! I was worri-- um." He cut himself off, flushing slightly. He couldn't tell if it'd be weird to express concern or if the other trainer would be uncomfortable, so he decided to play it cool. "A-anyway," he continued, clearing his throat awkwardly. "I'm just checking in. We're meeting up at the big ridge in the middle of route two, right? Alecks called and said he and Alice were almost there, so I just wanted to make sure you knew and stuff."

Route 2 Main Path - "Onwards to Striaton City!" - Mio The young trainer nodded as Jason explained his Pokemon-catching strategy. "You have to be careful with Buneary though; I've heard they often have fighting-type moves, and they can pack a real punch." He realized after he spoke that while they'd heard from Alecks, Jack hadn't been in touch since they'd split up. "Speaking of meeting up... Jack knows where we're meeting, right? Maybe I should make sure..." He fiddled with his XTransciever, hesitating over the call button. Would it be weird to call? They didn't exactly get off on the right foot, what with Meena and Lara's not-so-little spat, but it wasn't like Mio and Jack themselves didn't get along... Gritting his teeth against his rising anxiety, Mio pressed the dial button and waited. And waited. But Jack didn't answer. "Uhm. That seems a little..." He muttered, suddenly overcome with worry. "I hope he's not in trouble or anything..."

Route 2 Main Path - "Onward to Striaton City!" - Mio Mio beamed as Jason praised Meena's skill and agility, puffing up somewhat. "Yeah, she's pretty awesome..." he said, smiling down at Meena's pokeball. He leaned over to take a look at Alecks's call, eyes widening at what looked like a whole colony of Buneary. He whistled as Jason hung up, amazed. "I'm a little jealous!" He said, beginning to chew on his lip again. He winced as he bit down on the spot he'd bitten through earlier. "Ow-- Buneary are so cool; I heard they can punch with their ears! I have to wonder how that works... maybe I'll get lucky and they'll have brought one back with them..."

Sounds interesting! I'll keep an eye on this for sure.

Route 2 Main Path - The Top Percentage - Mio Mio slumped in relief as Joey gave the order to surrender. He hadn't been awake but six hours and he already felt like he needed a nap. Meena groomed herself with barely restrained pride, glowing with self-importance as Mio took the youngster's money and sputtered something between an apology and encouragement. The kid took off before he could finish, however, and the anxious trainer was left in a cloud of dust and bemusement. "...Well, anyway," he mumbled, reaching for Meena's pokeball. The scrappy cat was down to under half her health, and he didn't really feel like carrying her. "Good work, Meena. Let's all take a break." The cat gave him a wounded look as she was swept back into the contraption. Loam, however, didn't put up any fuss as she was converted to light; she was probably more used to her Pokeball than the Meowth. No sooner than his Pokemon had been returned, Mio turned around to find that Brendan and Jason had already headed off. Embarrassed, Mio sped after them in his skates, pulling up beside them ever-so-casually in an attempt to pretend he'd been just behind them the whole time. "That sure was something, huh?" He said, trying to make conversation. "Feels weird having a normal Pokemon battle after all that other stuff today."
