1.
When you go to the website of the Default Gateway, it brings you to a Gateway Summary right?
Yeah, sounds right. Go ahead and follow the instructions on the link you have, as they seem mostly correct. However, when you get to the step where you are Adding/Editing a User-Defined Application, use the following information:
Application Name: Pokemon Online Protocol: TCP Port Range: From 5080 to 5080 Protocol Timeout: 86400 Map to Host Port: 5080 Application Type: None
I'm not positive that the Application Type is correct, as I can't see what the other choices are, but I'm not sure how much it'll matter in the end. Once you've finished everything, ensure that the server is running on port 5080 (that's the default, so if you haven't changed it then don't worry about it), and that any software firewall installed on your computer is also going to allow it access. At that point everything should work ... hopefully.
 2.
If you're behind a Dynamic IP address and you can't make it static, you won't be able to port forward and you won't be able to run a server.
There are ways around it. The server is hosted on a standard home connection, so it has a dynamic IP as well. I use No-Ip to handle the IP change. There's also DynDNS which does something similar. However, my IP changes so infrequently that I usually have to go click a button so they don't think my account is inactive. As for the topic, it's rather difficult to explain over the internet, espcially with so many different routers and whatnot. Grox was headed in the right direction from what little I read of that conversation. You need to open a command prompt and type `ipconfig` (sans quotes), you'll get results similar to:
Windows IP Configuration Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.2.15 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.2.2
The main thing you need out of this is your IP Address (v4 to be specific; nobody likes IPv6 yet), and probably the default gateway. At this point you want to open a webbrowser and point it to your default gateway, so using the above information I'd go to: http://10.0.2.2 . Hopefully it'll take you to your router's web interface (or ask you for a username/password, that's a good sign). What's the brand and model of your router? You're going to have to navigate this horrible site and figure out usernames and passwords (unless you know them already) to get into the web interface. In general, once logged in you'll want to look for something that mentiones Port Forwarding or Application Rules or something similar. You need to create a new rule to allow port 5080 for the IP address you got using ipconfig. All of this is rather vague, I appologize, but I'll be more specific once I know your router stuffs.
 3.
I also code websites. [...] op on some IRC channels, plus I've owned/worked on quite a few websites, including this one way back in the day.
Awesome, what IRC channels? I always need more to lurk in =/ Oh, and hello~, suppose I should've started with that.
 4. Sorry about that guys, dunno why I could not get it back on the registry without restarting ... for future reference an advanced connection to sadpancake.com should work. Bear, if you want, you could CNAME something to sadpancake.com, then we could have advanced connection names that are based on this domain ... po.pokemonreborn.com, perhaps?
 5. Yeah, so crazy things have happened and I'm still not quite sure what the cause is. Unfortunately there isn't much I do for my own server over the phone, so it'll likely be down until I go back home at the end of the quarter (sometime in March). On a less sadful note, I purchased (I think, the whole setup thing is really confusing) a VPS for a month, so hopefully I can get that up and running. Assuming it works like I want it to, Reborn's PO server should be much more stable and responsive, but I have no VPS experience, so we'll see how that goes... Update: VPS is up, running, and hosting the server.
 6. Whole network is down and it's not a problem on our end, so Reborn is down until our ISP decided to actually work again. Also I'd change the topic title but I can't long-click things on my phone... EDIT: Yay that was fast; online again.
 7.
Poke-Place died. Ame found a new server and started it back up. Poke-Place Reborn died. Ame found a new server and started it back up. Poke-Place Re-Reborn died. Ame found a new server and started it back up. Poke-Place [Reborn] died. I made Ame a Poke-Place sub-forum at MonkeyPro when HGSS was announced. Ame found a new server and started it back up for real again. Here we are today at Poke-Place [[Reborn]].
I like the naming process. Also, it turns out I still have my logs of when things started (for me anyway) ... it's the very first thing Bear said to me on whatever account he was using at the time:
16:05:27 Bear :: Okay so brb actually but as soon as I'm back I need to talk to you about potentially running a serverthingy 16:05:36 Nyu :: Kay 16:39:43 Bear :: Okay, so hi. otherNick was trying to run it but couldn't because he was missing a library and had the wrong bit linux and god knows what else, soooo do you think you could try/keep it up? 16:40:12 Nyu :: I can try
The End (read: Beginning).
 8. Online, and I assume stable until right before the league starts again, because for some reason everything likes to blow up right around that time =/ Also I have no idea if the DoS thing was actually correct. It's very possible that I was just dumb and misreadng things, although the pretty graph did show a ton of requests from that on IP ... I dunno~ either way stricter firewall rules have been set and IPs have been blocked.
 9. Online again, although not always showing up on the registry. Advance connection to sadpancake.com works, though.
 10. IP changed, so if you were trying an Advance Connection with the old IP it would have failed. Seems like it's working now for me, sorry for the downtime.
 11. There was talk on the IRC earlier about Beta Server being unstable and the Registry crashing. I'm not quite sure how that would affect Reborn Server specifically (other than not showing up on the Registry), but it might be a cause.
 12. Wow ... this is lame. I really wanted to transfer a bunch of data to/from my server tonight, too. My life needs more Google-provided internet ... or I should just buy a VPS or something. Who was it again that was going to host a VPS for me? Mashy? Whoever it is should get on that faster. EDIT: And back online now ... for now =/
 13. Hmm, not sure if it's my fail internet connection or the server is crashing. Either way, it's back now Mods: The restart-link that you used to use now works properly with the new server ... so feel free to try that next time. EDIT: There's now a script that runs every 5 minutes and attempts to start the server if it's not already running. Not sure if it'll help out or not ... but it's there.
 14. It seems the whole network at my house is down and now it's too late for me to ask them what's happening. So, offline until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Sorry.
 15. If you want I can always downgrade the server or run both a 4th-gen and 5th-gen server or something. I don't see why the league can't just continue normally as people can't modify their teams anyway (although new people would be an issue). But, yeah ... whatever works for you~
 16. Yay~ my server is alive again with no data loss <3, so Reborn is back running on it.
 17. Until Thanksgiving ... unless somebody wants to go to my house and figure out why it no longer boots up. [More Updates] Good news: my sister was willing to crawl into the little cabinet and hook up a monitor and step through the boot process. At least there's someone willing to try to work on things. Bad news: The hard drive will no longer boot. There's a small chance that this is fixable, but most likely I'll have to go buy new hardware ... which would definitely mean no server until Thanksgiving. Curse you power outages! [update++] Now hosting the server on my laptop, which will probably suck but it's worth a shot. Hopefully I'll just never take my laptop to class. Also I can't get to the old database file so all the user information is lost. At the very least I'll try to auth the proper people when/if they show up.
 18. Yeah ... either the internet went out or a power outage broke everything. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do at the moment. I can't even host it on my laptop since I don't have the files needed nor can I get them from my server. And this is why hosting stuff from a home computer kinda sucks. [update] Yep, power outages. But they're all gone now and everything should be working ... but it's not. So most likely the outage majorly screwed up something and I have no way of fixing it. Grrs.
 19. From what little I read on PO's IRC channel, Steve (the guy that usually hosts Beta Server and the Registry) is no longer involved with PO due to conflicting ideas. Anyway that means both Beta Server and Registry had to quickly go find a new host ... which caused Reborn not to show up. But it seems everything is back to normal now, although it's very likely to screw up again soon (I think the current host is only temporary).
 20. Kay, I'ma use a new formatting implementation eventually, 'twill allow it so things don't have to start with the name. Basically, use %s for the person's name. So:
I am a peanut and I eated %s's face
Would end up displayed as: "I am a peanut and I eated Nyu's face" ... it's a direct replacement of %s and the person's name. This would mean that all the current deaths should be:
%s Was punched away by Breloom's FALCO PUNCH >3
... but since that's annoying you can leave out %s if the person's name is to start the sentence. So basically, if you want the death to start with the person's name, don't use any %s anywhere. And if anybody wants it, the current complete list is here: http://s.sadpancake.com/pokeleaves.txt
 21. Requesting that these be listed 1 per line, and to not include the username or whatever in the line ... 'twould make my life so much easier. So, like:
got blown away by Gardevoir's Psychic! got exploded by something because Nyu fails at thinking of another example
22. *High five!* Too bad Brawl has completely destroyed my ability to play Melee.
