@Wolfox I don't remember much, but at some point we were talking about Hunger Games simulations.

@Zargerth It's simply a clash of perspectives. I am a bit bitter about how things ended up. Needless to say, some pokemon will always be better than others. Centralizing is a problem though. Z-moves are a problem, due to their playing a huge role in modern gameplay. They either force certain strategies or force bans on certain pokemon simply because they might abuse said strategies (even if the pokemon was completely viable without a Z-move or even inferior and needed it). 

My point on "mindset" is the tolerance you mention. Limitation inherently destroys creativity. I keep bringing Gen6 as the most common relevant example because its main asset was the multitude of threats and possible teambuilding scenarios. Teams kept going more diverse (with the casual 'waves' of stall, then HyperO, then balance and so on). 

I was asking for more Megas because the basis was good. IMO, if they expanded on that, they could improve te gameplay, provide some alternatives and further boost our poke-pool with the new pokemon with new type-combinations (etc etc) in the following generations. Dropping all that for something inferior feels cheap. 

You argue that it's ok to play in a frame that limits gameplay, because in the end it forces you to improve. I disagree, because I argue that creativity promotes progress. Right now it's more like grinding.

I find myself trying new pokemon in Reborn, because I can no longer do it on showdown. 

@Jess No worries. Just relax. If need be, make multiple accounts and use some of them to test new mons in the most popular tiers. I ended up with 30 teams in Gen6 because of that tendency. 

@ZEL On the old site, 100 was the limit. Me and Bibs found out. 

There was love for weak/forgot pokemon. Audino, Lopunny, Manectric, Blastoise, Steelix, Aggron, Pinsir were all below RU in their previous generation. Granted, fan-favorites like Lucario and Garchomp also got theirs, and it was to be expected. 

There is no "competitive mindset". I've been laddering up to 1800s since Gen5. It's repetition that bores people. The notion of fun does not change. Seing the same pokemon abusing the same mechanics over and over again bores people. It bores me as well. I don't mind my teams not reaching high enough, but I do mind being forced to carry certain mons (and thus build a certain way) after a while just because certain Z-moves will kick my ass if I don't. 

As for Psychic, I was aware and thus mained Bug. They were inexcusable, and they needed intense pressure from the players to remove Hoopa-U from monotype. However we should not mix what the guys in Smogon do with what Nintendo produces. If nothing else, they work with what they get. 

Anyhow, I trust Jess will find xyr way by playing for fun or choosing less popular tiers to play. 

To be perfectly fair, this used to be a thing for previous generations for loads of people (just not me).

Competitive exists to satisfy your need to use a pokemon to its maximum capability, something 'campaign' cannot provide. It's up to you to find tiers that you feel content with. 

Megas were not all that bad, even if they forced every single team to carry one.

Had they proceeded to add more Megas and improve the forgotten pokemon, they wouldn't need the Z-moves.

Besides, gen6 was the most balanced in terms of competitive play. 

That's Gen7 competitive for ya. Try going for lower tiers. It might help.

Z-moves should have never existed, but people call me weird when I say that. 

Monotype is more fun since bans actually make sense. I suggest going for Psychic or Flying.
