  1. Glads have access to a Tuner to make Stardust? O.o That aside, I wish you could expand on your personality/backstory a little bit. I know I said there was no need to make a masterpiece, but you are kinda stretching it: keep in mind that the more others know about your personality and backstory, the better chances there will be to develop relationships and interactions, so yeah, I am saying this in your own interest. As for the "capable of using a Rank 3 or 4 Number" thing well, beat one of the various NPCs with generic Numbers you'll meet along the way, and their Number is all yours Well, as I said earlier Blue-Eyes decks are very viable nowadays, because they got a crapton of new support. So yeah, look it up on Google, I am sure you will be able to find the ideal build for you... Or I could just help you myself, I used to run Blue-Eyes myself in the past. Just... Not now: it is 3:20 AM here, I need to go to sleep, I will check out all further replies tomorrow. If you want my help for a deck, send me a private message and I will answer you tomorrow: you can post your app in the meantime. It would help for you to know at least what the mechanics that were introduced since season 1 (Synchro/Xyz/Pendulum summon) are tho. Or you could give a shot at the Arcana Numbers. Geez, I was expecting people to claw each other's eyes out for a protagonist spot, how come nobody seems to be interested in that? P.S.: I hate to break this to you but, while Blue-Eyes decks are really good nowadays thanks to new support, Shining Dragon i kinda a crappy card... And truth be told, it has always been. I mean come on, having to actually summon a 3 materials vanilla Fusion monster (that's a clean -3 on your card advantage, or should I say disadvantage) is bad enough without tributing it immediately afterwards... But ehi, if you are really adamant in using it I won't stop you. Just be ready for some frustration. Hell, friggin' Dragon Master Knight is actually easier to summon...
  2. If by "customized" you mean with original cards (AKA cards that don't actually exist and you came up with yourself), then no, sorry. If by "customized" you mean you mean "a deck you came up with that is not mentioned in the OP", then yes, actually that is kinda the point of this roleplay. I kinda am worried about how a deck built years ago could work nowadays tho: Blue-Eyes recently got a metric ton of new support, you might want to check that out! Also, I give to you the suggestion I gave others: why not trying your luck with the personality test for main characters, before making your definitive decision in regards to your deck? Very well. Editing the OP to signal that Chronomalies are taken. Feel free to edit your character's app accordingly (dunno, you might want to add an interest for archeology and/or some personality traits fitting of the meaning the Hermit has in tarots... Oh and now it is the time to fill in the "Deck of choice" entry...).
  3. So, your results are the Chronomaly family, Rhongomiant, the Heart-eartH family and the Rank 2 fiend family, in this order. Since you are the first to apply for a protagonist spot, you get the luxury of choosing. So, which will it be? (If you are not very familiar with the cards and/or their related archetypes, feel free to check out the Wikia pages I linked in the OP, and/or to look them up on Google, before deciding).
  4. I need you to take that personality test linked in the "Arcana Numbers" section of the OP, and communicate to me all the results you get that are higher than 90% ! That aside, you are good to go And since we are here, might as well post my own app: Name: Anna Reinier Gender: F Appearance: Pic A tall (1,88 m), attractive woman whose age is difficult to guess. She has platinum hair and golden eyes, along with a rather pale complexion. She is always seen wearing blue clothing, and she always carries around a mysterious book, which looks just like the one depicted in the artwork of the card "Spellbook of Secrets". Personality: A polite, composed, knowledgeable individual, who is respectful of everyone and apparently enjoys conversing casually with the students... Who might feel a bit intimidated by such demeanor, but she tries her bet to be friendly. She seems to have an interest for supernatural topics, and she enjoys predicting the future by using the monsters of her deck (which are, after all, inspired to a tarot deck). Backstory: Well this is the problematic thing about her. Everyone seem to know her, but somehow nobody can really remember her. Ask anyone around the school: they'll tell you that they of course know her and that she has been teaching at the school for a long time, but if you ask them which class she was in charge of, say, last year, nobody will be able to remember. Just who is she really? Number Holder: Long story, let's just say "no". Deck of choice: Prophecy/Spellbook (she has more than one variant of that actually).
  5. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12974 Things are starting to get in motion, but we still glaringly lack major Number Holders and villains... Don't be shy people!
  6. What with all the foxes?

    1. Gentleman's Hat

      Gentleman's Hat

Oh I do enjoy the site of foxes running around carelessly.

It reminds me of the Hunt

  7. Another one not interested in being a protagonist... Sigh... Oh well, your app seems to be ok, so welcome on board! Machina is ok as far as I am concerned, so don't worry, enjoy your self-summoning tanks Just... Just keep it pure, ok? Machina monsters (the good ones of course, Gearframe/Cannon/Fortress) along with the Gadgets and little more. Don't start mixing it up with Cyber Dragons or it will really cross the line. And figuring out DN shouldn't be a problem, but should you have difficulties feel free to ask
  8. Guys may I remind you that being, you know, the protagonist by fetching a Number is also an option? I mean, not all Numbers are Deck Locked, you might luck out and get the chance to BOTH use your fav deck AND get a Number... So yeah, my advice is: give it a shot! If you get a Number you don't like, you can always say "no thanks" and decide not to be a Number Holder...
  9. Just so you know, the limitation on Atlanteans and Mermails is that they cannot be used together. As long as they are separated, if you want to make a deck that focuses more and more on Atlanteans, go right ahead! And regardless, welcome to the RP!
  10. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12974 Started my Yu-Gi-Oh roleplay. Wish me luck!

  11. IMPORTANT PREMISE A lot of people tend to be scared by roleplays in YGO environment because they are not familiar, or only marginally familiar, with the actual card game. However, I cannot stress enough how, in this roleplay, storytelling and character developement will be MUCH more important than, you know, "lol noob I beat ya cuz I'm stronk". Therefore, you can join in even if you have little to no knowledge of the game (it will be your chance to learn, I am confident I can teach people about it), and/or you are unfamiliar with the competitive scene (most decks that have high competitive value will be severely restricted if not banned outright), and/or if you are not good at building effective decks (I am, so I will gladly help you). This is going to be a relaxed, interaction-driven roleplay, so don't be afraid of joining it if you are bad at YGO, or if you don't know the game at all: it might actually be your occasion to learn, or to develop an interest in a game you didn't think you could like. STUFF RELATED TO SETTING, PLOT AND CHARACTERS Plot and setting Characters and template for app STUFF INVOLVING NUMBER CARDS The Number cards are the focus of the plot (albeit with a different backstory than the one stated in the Wikia), meaning that people who are in possession of one or more of them (the so-called Number Holders) will inevitably be in the spotlight as the story unfold. However, it is not mandatory to be one: a Number Holder is expected to develop a strategy that revolves around his/her Number(s), exploiting it (or them) as the ace card(s) of the deck. And since Number cards are Xyz monsters, this means the deck of a Number Holder will focus on Xyz summoning. If this is not your cup of tea, you can always decide to be a normal guy, who is into things merely as friend/classmate of the Number Holders. So yeah, keep on reading this section only if you are interested in being a Number Holder. The Major Arcana Numbers The Seven Judges Numbers that are not in the two groups above will be in possession of various NPCs played by myself throughout the story: defeating these NPCs will allow you to get your hands on their Numbers, so yeah, even a guy who starts without a Number will be given the opportunity to obtain one at some point. But please if possible do prioritize the Arcana ones, as the story needs protagonists to get started. Also please, stay away from Barian Hope, as it will be needed later for plot reasons. STUFF INVOLVING DUELS When to duel Where to duel Banlist We shall follow the TCG banlist as far as forbidden/limited/semilimited cards go, because that is the default one used on DN. If you don't know what this means, don't worry: the system will automatically show you which cards you can use in 3 copies, which you can only run in 2 copies, which you can only run in 1 copy, and which are forbidden outright. This aside, there are some decks and cards we will be forbidding/restricting in this roleplay. Always keep in mind the main philosophy: we are roleplaying, duels are just a side dish. Therefore, fun decks that allow fun exchanges, and that can support the Number(s) you have regardless of their actual competitive viability, are to be prioritized over decks built to win at all costs. In the spoiler below, the decks AND INDIVIDUAL CARDS that you won't be allowed to use no matter what (reason in brackets) In the spoiler below, decks that will only be allowed to be used under specific restrictions (contact me privately to know the restrictions) If your deck is not in any of the above spoilers, congratulation: you can use it to your heart's content! And remember: character development comes first. Duels are just a side dish. So do not obsess over them, one way or the other. To keep track of things, here is a list of characters in the RP so far (thanks to Cyaloom for the crucial help with this). In brackets the DN nicknames: Here is a list of recurring NPCs that appear during "After School" topics. Finally, here is the RP-specific rules we shall enforce: KING MURDOC IS OFFICIALLY THE CO-HOST OF THIS ROLEPLAY. Episode 1: Heartland Homicide (At School - After School) Episode 2: When the Kids Are United (At School)

  13. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12936 last time I spin this. I will probably start the actual roleplay later today, the interest seems good...

  15. Being Italian, I had assumed we'd go by the TCG banlist (it's the one I am familiar with), if everyone is ok with that. Of course, we'd still use the simulator-exclusive format, by this I mean that simulators have, in their database, ALL the cards, TCG and OCG alike, so of cours it would be fair game to use both (I know you didn't need this explaination, but probably some of the other guys did).
  16. While I agree, I gotta ask: since when did Crystal Beast become a "competitive deck"? Heck, of all the deck choices I would strongly discourage (or ban outright if really forced to), I can think of at least 28 archetypes whose ban would be much more urgent that Crystal Beast's... :/
  17. 13 replies, 84 views, 5 potential roleplayer. Is that good or bad for an interest check?

  18. 1) Yup. Honestly, I am against the hipster "OMG that deck is popular so we shall ban it forever and ever!" mentality, and I believe that making an OOC topic that states "these decks are forbidden" would kinda turn people off. However it is true that some decks are ineherently better than others, so I'd do my best to encourage diversity, and to prioritize low-tier decks that fit the characterization of one's PC and/or the Number they got over top-tier decks that are built only to win and have little to no roleplaying value. The fact that virtually everyone will be a Number Holder, and that as a rule of thumb each person will be encouraged to have a unique deck, will surely help, because there are many decks that are currently top-tier, like Qli and Nekloz, that really wouldn't know what to do with any Number card, meaning that such decks would naturally be left behind without the need of explicitly banning them... 2) All cards that currently exist would be fair game, provided they stay within the limitations stated in the previous point. And much like in anime, characters would evolve from a personality point of view and... Well, nothing forbids they tweak their deck too along the way. So yeah, once you have picked an archetype you gotta stick with it, but if new support for that archetype comes out in the future, you will be free to edit your deck in order to include it. 3) Well no, I cannot possibly think of a Number-themed story without Utopia. But don't worry, I am already preparing a creative system to assign Numbers to players, so that they wouldn't claw each other's eyes out to get their hands on the best ones... EDIT: and as far as the "DN vs DevPro" thing is concerned, I think that, since so far it appears all our potential roleplayers are not on any simulator, it would be better to go with DN because, for a newbie, it is easier to access DN (no download required, easier registration process).
  19. I was afraid of this. Well, each system has pros and cons. The DevPro/YgoPro system has auto-rulings, meaning rules are automatically enforced by the system: if a card cannot be used in a given situation, you will be prevented from using it, and if a card can be used, you'll be prompted a message asking you if you want to use it (thus eliminating the risk of "I forgot I could use that card in that situation", reducing misplays). Cons are that this auto-ruling system is sometimes prone to bugs, also we are tlking about a program that needs to be downloaded and installed on one's PC, and then you need to register, and then you need to validate your registration with a confirmation e-mail. On the other hand, DN is eaier to join (registration process is identical to most forums out there including this one, and you don't need to download anything), also it has no auto-rulings, meaning that players are free to enforce special rulings for roleplaying purposes (like the anime-exclusive "Only Numbers can destroy other Numbers in battle" effect Numbers have). The con is that no auto-ruling means nothing prevents people from cheating, rule-sharking, misplaying, and all the complications you'd get hen playing a TCG IRL. Granted, drama shouldn't arise from this given that we are dueling to further a plot and not for actual competition (so there shouldn't be the risk of "you f***ing cheater you stole my ladder points!"), but still... Personally I already am on both, so it would be up to people to decide. Also I like how we already have 4 potential roleplayers, if you guys could spread the word and get more people to check this, it would really be great
  20. As I told Sparky, Google is your friend. The Yu-Gi-Oh Wikia has extensive articles on the Number cards, so yeah, as long as you are familiar with the Xyz mechanic in general you should be fine. Don't bother reading the backstory of the Number cards because we are gonna make a new one for our roleplay. We have all been through that period And now I need to ask an important question: how many of the people who posted this far actually have experience with online duels? And what do you use, DevPro or Dueling Network? I need to know this because, if the majority of the would-be roleplayers are on, say, DN, might as well tell those who aren't on any simulator to come to DN... Each simulator has pros and cons, so if there isn't a definitive majority on this (or merely if people aren't on any simulator) I think we should definitely discuss this...
  21. As stated, the whole idea for this roleplay was born from the fact that I don't like the Zexal series of the anime, meaning that I am hoping to create, with this roleplay, a completely different storyline for the series. So yeah, as long as you know what Number cards are (a knowledge you can easily gain via Google) you are fine, you don't need to have followed the anime to jump in Of course, if by "I haven't followed since GX" you mean that you are also unfamiliar with game mechanics introduced after GX then yes, that might be a problem, but again, Google is your friend, and I am pretty confident I can explain one thing or two, as well Well if you are familiar with the anime, you at leat know the basics. Which means the only thing you lack is experience in building an actual deck, but I can easily help with that. However, we cannot of course roleplay if it's just the two of us. Let's wait for more people to join before dissecting all the details and actually starting the roleplay.
  22. http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=12936 I wonder how many people would be interested in this...
  23. Well, the title says all really: I used to be in a Yu-Gi-Oh roleplay community, but I had to leave it for various reasons. Still, I am starting to miss roleplaying in Yu-Gi-Oh environment, but apparently the aforementioned roleplay community is the only one around the web that is decently active and, rather than starting my own (I have no experience in forum management) I thought I'd try my luck here, in Reborn's wonderful roleplay playerbase. So, if you follow Yu-Gi-Oh anime, you know that the Zexal series was absolute garbage, so yeah, this roleplay would create an alternate story for that very series: this basically means that, much like in Zexal, the plot-driving cards would be the Numbers, however such cards would have a completely different backstory compared to the anime. Major protagonists (and villains) of our story would therefore pack one (or more, in some cases) Number cards, and would be expected to build a deck around them: fortunately, many new Number cards have been released after Zexal ended, meaning it would be easier for us to create Number Holder characters that are original, and don't merely emulate characters from the anime. I have actually come up with a creative method to assign Number cards to players (I'd use it to prevent people from fighting over the strongest ones while neglecting the weaker ones), but I'll explain it in due time. Something noteworthy about roleplaying in Yu-Gi-Oh environment is that there are many simulators around the internet, like Dueling Network and DevPro: this means that having PvP combat would be pretty easy as people would only need to get on one of these simulators, build their deck, and duel it out, thus eliminating all the need for stats, PvP-specific rules, and the host acting as the "referee" when arguments arise. All that matters are the actual rules of the card game. Which by the way is the reason why I am embarking in this adventure: with PvP combat made so easy, it is of course easy to host such a roleplay, meaning I can do it on my own despite my busy university life (but ehi, if you wanna co-host go ahead and say it, I appreciate help). Something I cannot stress enough is that poeple would NOT need to be good duelists, with extensive knowledge of the card game, to take part in this: granted, you are expected to know the basic rules, but that really is enough. You don't need to have a grasp of the competitive scene because most decks that are competitively strong would probably be either forbidden or severely nerfed/limited (you know, to avoid "it's not fair! He got the best deck!"), and you don't need to be a great deck-builder because, modesty aside, I am, so I'll be more than happy to lend you a hand in creating the ideal deck around your character's personality and/or your favorite card. Of course, if you do have such knowledge and are thus able to make a good, fun deck on your own, all the better. So yeah, for now I just want to see how many people would be interested in this idea. I'll provide more details on the plot and the rules if I see enough interest.
