  1. There's probably a bigger need for people to play older areas of the game over the newer areas to give various feedback. Plenty of people will just only play the new V11 story areas and that's it...I mean all the content along that path. As long as you go at a rate faster than I do (2 more years until I catch up), it should be fine. You can give a lot of good feedback even after an hour of playing. And bugs. Always report bugs. And obligatory what not to do for an app is obligatory:
  2. People have been begging content creators (not just Ame) for years upon years pestering them time and time again. I'd argue it's one of the most requested things in the entire Pokemon fan-game community bar new gen Pokemon. If there was a feasible solution, we would be hearing it really loud and really clear and so many devs would migrate towards it in a heartbeat (unless they are really deep in their dev time). The biggest issue would be due to how old and outdated RMXP is. It's like trying to run '98 games on Windows 10. You don't really think much about it as a software dev. If you want to be the hero who finds the solution after 1-2 years of development time be my guest as you'd be a hero to the community and probably one of the most praised people in the community, but right now we don't have anything even close to say it's possible. My best advice is to convince your friends to join forces and buy a cheap $30 or $40 laptop as all people should really have them. Trust me, Reborn can run on some really low end stuff. Edit: Well I found something interesting and...yeah...good luck getting it to work
  3. (Deep breath) If you've seen the lady on the bench, you need to step on a specific place on the map after doing various things to make her disappear into the forest. Once she is in the forest, you need to heal her with a secret potion. Once you do that she'll be on the bench by the Pokemon Center IF you have the correct weather. If she's not in either location, you may need different weather from what I'm looking at. I don't know where you are struggling at since you could be mistaking it for defeating Pulse Abra for all I know. What is she saying that's giving you so much trouble.

  5. For anyone reading: DO NOT DO THIS! The demo is a version of E17 and not E18. Releases do take a while to get out so often times I keep an earlier release version of the game up to try it out and see. We'll eventually see some playable E18 version but not for a while. Even though I'm silent, I do set plans out for worse case scenarios and sometimes delay working on it for school and other things. Because of that, I don't look at this thread often so if there's an issue, it might be wise to @Commander me so I notice sooner rather than later..
  6. Attention all Reborn members! Inuki needs your help to give the ultimate birthday bash to the squid king. What he will need is 15 meme posts, 1 post about all his life achievements, and hundreds with generic birthday messages, but you've gotta act quickly. Just send us your username and password and you too will be able to give an epic message to an epic user. ...and I realized Inuki just did it. Oh well. I'm running low on sleep anyways. Happy Birthday, dude.
  7. >Makes a thread about how he'd balance the game a few days earlier >Says to bring one of the most problematic characters back If this is a joke, it ain't funny
  8. For those who don't understand the title: Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn Review and Retrospect Grab a chair because this is going to be a long one. So you've probably heard people rave about Tellius and how much they love it. I'm not going to sugar coat anything despite Radiant Dawn being my favorite game in the series and pretty much my favorite Wii game. This is the game that nearly killed the franchise and they should never do something like this ever again. There's a lot of good ideas that have come and while it would be cool to see them, I feel like it would sell horribly to today's market. There is a lot to talk about why this game was a failure and why fans pretty much hated it when it came out. Though over time this one suddenly became a classic and well recieved and often gets praised being the second half of the Tellius games. And if you thought Fates brought bad ideas, Radiant Dawn has some "what the hell were you thinking moments." It's a good game worth picking up, but it is a mess. So let's dive in and for those who haven't played the game you are in for a treat. The Game is a Sequel So Radiant Dawn is an odd duck when it comes to how it works. It's kind of like FE1 and FE3 where the second game takes place a few years after the first. And while you don't need to play Path of Radiance, it is highly recommended as many of the old plot elements are tied in and answered in the sequel. One of the biggest issues with these games is that they are rare and at the time, they both were on different consoles. Fortunately the Wii was backwards compatible which solved one issue, but there would be many newcomers who wouldn't be able to find Path of Radiance being first introduced in Smash. This was one of the biggest mistakes they made with the game and it caused the game to bomb in sales. FE11 and FE12 didn't do much better but they sold at least more than Radiant Dawn when they needed to make a new game to bounce back over remakes. A lot of people hate on Awakening and the direction FE is taking not realizing the route they were was going to bring their demise. I don't really blame them for milking on Awakening for Fates when death was knocking on their door. I'm not here to bring doom and gloom, but I do have to acknowledge every mistake this game made and this was the biggest sin especially with how connected the two stories are. Edited Note: So I went back and RD sold just under half a million which isn't too bad coming off of PoR's 600,000 copies. That's a pretty big drop from FE8 being closer to 900,000. Tales of Symphonia sold 1.1 million units which really just kind of shows the sudden gap. There's a lot more factors such as the Wii being much more popular, but it was not good given how expensive the game probably was to make. It's not a good number for a Nintendo big named game. It would be interesting to jump into a what if Awakening didn't happen, but that's for another day. I do not believe Fire Emblem would have died, but we may not have gotten anymore FE in the west. Since the games are so connected, I have to mention Path of Radiance and while I don't feel I'll need to do a review, I'll at least give you a short one on my thoughts. Path of Radiance is the FE7 of the console releases. It has everything that there is that makes what fans feel is a true Fire Emblem game with a really, really good plot for FE standards, a very likable lord, great supports and cast, the classic gameplay, and a wide variety of maps and missions. The thing about it is that it's catered more as a gateway game and veterans will feel it's way too easy. The biggest issue was the graphics certainly didn't age well on top of how slow the game is. The games before and after the Tellius all focused on being swift and flashy making PoR feel quite laggy in return. It really needs a port with updated graphics and a speedup button and I think it'd do quite well. Most of the mechanics and everything else is in Radiant Dawn, but they added some extra layers. I really recommend doing a hard mode run of PoR if you're a big FE fan as there's so many little things that make the run worth the while. Just don't expect the greatness people make it out to be. I'm going to say this as a disclaimer. Everything I say from now on is my own opinion and many of the things I'm going to say may make an saying "Fire Emblem Awakening is a masterpiece" to an elitist of the older games look tame. Whenever you see me say something, just let me finish before you burn the forums. Also, I'll be talking about PoR a lot since the two are similar, but pretty much what Fates is to Awakening. Graphics and Animations The best way to describe this game is that it's huge and this is the only small area to cover. If I had to describe the best looking Fire Emblem from style, graphics, and animations, it'd be Radiant Dawn second to none. Fates and SoV may look cleaner and both have their own amazing styles, but this game really has everything...except forts. The best way to describe it is that enemies look like they come from hallways and stairs when appearing as reinforcements. Everything is in 3d and even the elevation really adds depth. We'll get into that later. I think the character portraits are the best looking in the series and look so, so much better than PoR's kind of ugly ones. The animations actually look good and while crits and abilities aren't flashy like in all other titles, they looked cool to me and I love when a peg dashes off the screen at high speed. My favorite it the halbedier pretty much doing flips when entering combat. It's not as streamlined as Fates or SoV, but characters felt very alive and you could now make out a number of details on them. I liked how everything looked and moved...though I can see why people would be really annoyed with armor knights. Whenever they attack, they move pretty slow in combat slowly walking up to the opponent then beating them up. I think the game looks great, but the mapping absolutely destroys anything seen in the 3ds titles. So an issue I have with most Fire Emblem games is that many maps have graphics that feel rather samey at points. Radiant Dawn I couldn't even tell you what map kind of reminded me of what. Some maps take place at night which look different then ones fought in the daytime. There's even one fought in the sky. And if you hated a map, you wouldn't ever see it again such as the mud pit. It used a lot of assets from PoR which maps looked really good, but I just recall more RD maps from design over that one. And there's no issue with depth perception compared to fates where I sometimes couldn't tell if something was a walkable tile or not. And don't get me started on the Mila tree. My favorite thing though: We'll get into story later, but I will say the Tellius games managed to do a lot with only a little. Fates and Awakening focused on many scenes being similar to a clipscene in video games, but Radiant Dawn tells its stories in 3 different perspectives. The first is the tried and true "sprites" talking to each other in a standstill more or less using their portraits. Though in RD and PoR they use their full torso instead of focusing on the head. The second is using the maps to tell the story which I think is pretty well done sometimes using mechanics in clever yet amusing ways such as shoving people into the pits. The Tellius games do a lot of neat things with their maps which isn't seen much in other games. Pretty much Fate's Dragon Veins done right in most cases. Anyways, my favorite are the murals I have always thought the murals topped cutscenes. It's certainly better than scenes of Corrin swinging his sword hitting someone then getting hit back...all the time. These things are gorgeous and really give vivid imagery of what is happening and really express what a character is feeling. Oh yeah I guess there's cutscenes, but those are very few and far inbetween. While the voice acting isn't stellar, the scenes look really good and are a step up from Path of Radiance. I'll end this saying that the cutscene at the end of part 2 is one of the most iconic moments in Fire Emblem history. There's actually a lot of things that happen in part 2 one of which is graphical related, but I'll save that for the story. One problem with talking about Radiant Dawn in certain aspects is that everything feels connected and that's really important. Things will feel like a mess but just bear with me. Music When you think of Fire Emblem music, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? Is it the medley from Smash Bros Melee? Id (Purpose)? Ocean's Gray Waves? FIRE EMBLEM HEROES!!!!! We all have our own opinions and what Fire Emblem music should be is different for everyone. This is the song that often comes into my mind: I'm not going to say RD's ost is a pure masterpiece or the best one. RD has the Fire Emblem like soundtrack or at least an OST geared towards what FE was. There are many great and memorable songs including the player phase jingle for Part 1. It's been a very long time since I've touched RD and I remembered this theme so fluidly. Sometimes the music can just go to the back of your mind but never had I said a song was bad or not fitting. It doesn't have any of my favorite songs, but I think it does it's job damn well really, really is a beautiful soundtrack to listen to while playing the game. Oh wait it has my favorite recruitment theme. I will say that going from PoR to RD soundtrack wise is like going from RSE to Pokemon Coliseum. I really do think the way the game sounds probably was my favorite part of the game. The soundtrack really fits and basically every time you hit an enemy, a thundercloud sound would be heard when you do damage. I prefer this over most sounds weapons make because it makes your attacks feel more powerful. You really have to play it to understand what I mean as listening to it alone doesn't really convey the feelings they are meant for. I'm done fanboying this game now as I wanted to get these two topics out of the way since the game looks and sounds great and it really should be acknowledged. You don't hear these things too much when people talk about RD instead... Story Before I get into this demon, RD's story isn't garbage in my eyes. The game is very fatiguing especially in the later parts so often times one poor writing decision can feel much, much worse than it really was. The best way to put it bluntly is that the parts are much better than the whole. Some I feel were contrived for making some really interesting map ideas and you kind of have to make your own basis on if you let something pass or not due to this. Maps and story are very connected so I decided to pick story since I'd rather get that out of the way and not have to explain it twice. Be warned, there will be many spoilers beyond this point as we have to cover ALL of it to even explain why it's a mess. So here's the funny "what were they thinking moment." The game is separated into four parts. Once you finish a part, you get a teaser trailer treating the next part like some movie trailer showing clips of the cutscenes from that part...even if there's only one cutscene in it. And the narrator tries to make you hyped for it. I'm not making this up for those who haven't played the game. And I just remembered the chapter cut in. I love when the chapter cut-in appears. Anyways, one thing I really liked about this game is that the transition dialogue was narrated instead of having to read it and pray you read all the text before it continues to autoscroll. If you played any of the old Fire Emblems you know about the dealeo of how there's text explaining how the character got from point a to point b where the chapter takes place. And now we begin with part 1. Each part focuses on a main lord with Micaiah being our lord for this part. Our story opens to an oppressed Daein (the bad guys of PoR...probably misspelled) which Bengions treat them like crap. Micaiah and a couple members of the Dawn Brigade try to escape until they come across a critically injured boy from a soldier attack. Micaiah uses her magical powers to heal and save this boy. Though doing this really exhausts her. This introduces a heal mechanic where Micaiah heals a party member but loses the same amount of HP as she heals. She also is forecaster of future events. We'll get to that later. They escape to safety, meet up with the Daein army, and free Daein from oppression making Pelleas the king. Typical Fire Emblem stuff. I don't remember all of the writing since it's been a while but it's good for what it is though...there is one question probably looming on everyone's mind: is Micaiah a Mary-Sue. I'm looking back and honestly, I think Micaiah is a pretty solid character in part 1. There's just the issue with having to know quite a bit of lore to understand her character and not want to pull your hair out. Micaiah pretty much is a kind-hearted girl pushed into a role she really didn't want. She's a Corrin don right in my eyes. She's also one of the oldest being around 25. She's also a branded which means she likely didn't have many people to hold close to her as humans and Laguz shun them (read up on Stefan if you're interested). She was a beggar who really only had Soothe and later joined the Dawn Brigade lead by Nolan to free themselves from the 3 year oppression from Bengion. She's someone who cares more about helping others than winning a war going out of her way endangering herself to save a boy. Her special powers which actually come from her being the true apostle which isn't explained all that well are what people jump and call her a Mary Sue instantly. Bengion has been oppressing these people for years now and after being ruled by a gruesome mad king, they were desperate for change. We have this girl who wears a heart on her sleeve with incredible powers. She is treated as this savior who will free them for all these bad things pretty much pushing her to be a leader. So here we have a lord who likely knows jack shit about tactics leading an army. It doesn't help that her only true friend has his head stuck in the clouds about the glory PoR days. There is one character that she really trusted due to being a branded like herself which was Pelleas. She really has no idea what she's doing so she kind of put blind faith in Pelleas and the very, very questionable Izuka. The game doesn't explain this well which is why you often question her stupidity. She also doesn't think too much about what being the savior means and took a walk in the forest and was almost assassinated. And now we get to one of the questionable choices the game threw at us. Micaiah let a critically injured Jarod escape in honor of his comrade's sacrifice. Unlike Corrin, Micaiah will kill in order to survive but they didn't go out of their way to do so. It was a kill or be killed world sometimes. Maybe someone killed her caretaker and left her to live changing how she lived and behaved, but we never really find out because this game have very, very limited backstory on characters. It really makes no sense why she'd let him go under normal circumstances given all the cruel thing he and his underlings had done. She then has a vision telling her that she screwed up badly. Well at least it's consistent she isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Still smarter than Corrin letting the entire Hoshidian army get away scoot free. And at least Micaiah's actions had consequences for being an idiot. We really could use something to expand upon all of this because we got so little on Micaiah. And now we get into Part 2 where we play as multiple characters who perform as the lord while Elincia is the main lord. The entire story is that the people of Crimea aren't so welcome to a hidden from public princess has risen up to rule their country and changing many of their laws and policies regarding Laguz. And then we stop the rebellion. The end. Also, Ike shows up to kick ass. There's a general consensus that part 1 is too hard, but still good, but Part 2 has conflicted opinions as it's unnecessary. Personally, I really like this segment as it's kind of an epilogue to Crimea after PoR. Elincia has been struggling in this uphill battle and now has to deal with a war where she worries for Geofferey's safety and her best friend, Lucia becomes a hostage. Luvdeck surrenders and is taken hostage but then an ultimatum is thrown her way: either turn her throne over to Luvdeck or let Lucia be hanged. They could have gotten out of Elincia answering this question so easily, but she answered it clear. She would not give up the throne and was ready to watch Lucia die to her dismay. It's kind of nice for a female protagonist to act like a leader (even if she's only the protag for a short time) as we've seen Celica surrender to Jedah, Eirika give in to Lyon's obvious trap, Corrin breaking down after killing Ryoma...and many other things. She may not be an official lord, but she is in my eyes and we could honestly use more characters like her taking the lead role. And now we've hit Part 3. For the most part, you play as Ike as the main lord and you get some of your allies from the Dawn Brigade here pretty much usable for the rest of the game. So the plot is basically a war between Gallia against Bengion with Daein helping them later. You do pretty good but something that usually doesn't happen in FE especially this late is the fact that Ike's side is losing and is forced to retreat. You escape and are pushed back to near Crimea's borders. This causes Elincia to go into the battlefield, without a weapon, says GTFO of her country like the badass she is and it worked....mostly. Crimea pretty much is neutral towards this whole war so Ike isn't getting much help from them. Eventually Sanaki is found causing Zelgius, the general of the army, to cease his army only leaving Daein left in the equation. So for a couple chapters you switch back as the Dawn Brigade fighting off the Laguz army. And they start to question what they are doing...and here comes the most hated plot convenience in the franchise. The Daeins have to keep fighting on the side of Bengion because of what is called a blood contract. Basically if Daein turns against Bengion, they'll die. It's a confusing plot device, but honestly it never really bothered me all that much. The rules behind it are confusing so I'll leave that out. Even Ike kind of wonders why the heck Daein is still fighting like mad seeing they have no reason to. Like if you get worked up over this, just look at all the other asspulls IS has pulled and get over it. Is it a terrible part of the story? Probably. And it eventually leads to a big clash against all the armies waking up the Dark God and they pull an Ultron...before it was cool. And everyone but playable characters and the Senate are statues...also Dragons are fine for some reason. And then we get to part 4. Well a mix of both. So Micaiah's bird, Yune, is the good half of the goddess referred to the Dark God of the Fire Emblem. She basically controls and replaces Micaiah for the remainder of the story. Probably a good thing because Yune at least knows what she's doing. She explains a bunch of lore dump and then you're set off in three groups racing towards the tower. It's pretty uneventful until the finale where you pick an army and storm the five maps and behold a very, very heavy text dump explaining and giving background to a lot of the antagonists of this game. Some of which I haven't seen because they require new game plus. They are pretty interesting and really add to the lore of this game which is quite good...thanks to Path of Radiance. Ike beats the goddess and the world is saved. The plot isn't anything reward winning and it can be a bit all over the place from being solid to awful and it's a jumbled mess to think about. Personally, I think what we had is fine, but there's so much more I wish we got since we really only lightly touch on these characters due to no supports. Most only have one or two info conversations. You DON'T need supports to flesh out these guys as Aimee certainly was pretty memorable and unique. That's the item lady in love with Ike...who Ike is terrified of. I don't need a more fleshed out support system but I think having a lot more info conversations each chapter could really, really help many of these guys out. Aran is basically a generic soldier. We get some like Zihark and Meg. I hope if there's every a remake or enhanced port, IS takes a lot of time to expand on the many aspects of Tellius as much of the foundation is well built and easy to expand upon. The Dawn Brigade needs it the most though. I personally think it's fine, but there are parts to be desired instead of simply speculating. Gameplay Remember how I said most of this all goes hand-in-hand. There is a lot to cover in terms of gameplay so I'll cover all the simple and short ones first: The camp menu is a godsend and should be brought back instead of a hub area, supports are fine albeit a bit weird, I hate that you need to transfer game data on top of making sure you do an A support from that game, on top of playing new game plus to unlock all the story content. Some of the requirements are pretty ridiculous such as fighting a character who may one shot you. Biorhythm sucks. In terms of basic mechanics it's just a more polished Path of Radiance. So another obvious big flaw about Radiant Dawn is that it has a very, very unbalanced roster due to the army being split into three perspectives. Some characters have plenty of availability while others aren't available for very much time. Part 1 is very flawed as it has multiple ways you can game over on top of having a bunch of weak characters. You eventually get some tier 2 characters, an Oifey (a meh one), an exp hog, a bunch of tier 2, and units who can effortlessly beat maps one of which is pretty much untouchable. What the game doesn't tell you is that you better make sure to train up the characters you really want as part 3 will bit you in the ass with those defense chapters. And they will bite. I do think they should have added more Dawn Brigade chapters and I think a remake would likely address that...I hope. And some of them leave the Dawn Brigade like Ilyana and Tormod. Fortunately you do get yellow units which do help alleviate your mistakes a little bit. So the cool thing is despite the unbalance (still better than Rev's) you can pretty much pick up and salvage anyone on normal mode which is actually hard mode. PoR Hard Mode is Normal mode making for quite the rude awakening for the unprepared. You are forced to deploy certain units in the finale but BExp really helps make characters who you damn well wouldn't ever use otherwise be usable. It's basically the ultimate fix your screw-ups which it being my third game certainly was well needed. I also don't regret using the bulk of mine on Kurt. There's also Battle Saves which you pretty much can save at any point in the chapter and abuse the heck out of that. They got rid of that pretty quickly, but I really am going to miss that mechanic since it prevented having to restart the entire chapter over again. There's just so many mechanics I could write an essay on that alone. You have strength determining the speed reduction (I'm not the biggest fan, but better than not having one), rescue, shove, and canto strats, the anima magic triangle, laguz, and weapon refining. Laguz are fun to use, but their biggest issue is gaining experience as they make Jeigan in chapter one look like he earned a lot. Those characters are slow and hard to raise to the point you really don't use them all that much. Except Mordecai because that smite is nice. There's also elevation mechanics which anyone but calvary can climb and being on a level above grants more accuracy and being below counts less and only ranged weapons can hit. This added a much needed variety to maps. Doors can also be damaged to open instead of requiring a key. Wyverns were also broken because they are not weak to bows, only thunder magic. Why do you think Haar is referred to as a god? The game is much more balanced than PoR as it doesn't promote spamming calvary to win...unlike a certain mobile game at a certain point. Now I said before maps all looked and felt unique due to design, but there's a second half to it. Every map has a main goal which could be to seize, escape, or kill boss. They are quite varied and P3-E has one of the most unique requirements being tied in with the story. The big thing about Radiant Dawn is all maps have multiple objectives. And it's not like PoR where it's just try to finish a map in a certain amount of turns. Often times you will come across maps with green units some of which are super damn hard to protect for the BExp. You can choose to easily clear maps, but sometimes you want to go get an item or have to choose between killing an enemy or letting them escape for BExp. This game's maps and story go very hand-and-hand. Like take Elincia's Gambit the famed defense chapter. You are defending your castle from an endless amount of enemies (100 wouldn't be shy) and you get a message Geofferey is headed his way. The game gives enough time for Geoffery's team to come in at the top right and charge in where the big boss stands to try and take him down. We haven't seen our already used allies return in the heat of battle since FE8. There's also random horses you can use for a sabotage map mission. My favorite is the sky battle where you're playing like it's thracia where you one unit keeps getting captured. Oh, and sometimes avoiding to kill certain enemies nets more BExp. There's also the battles where Ike and Micaiah clash which you can sway certain characters from Micaiah to Ike if you want to train them up (but you probably need them over there). The game is pretty great, but if you don't like big and long battles, it certainly isn't for you. Many times it isn't just your playable units on the field as you often have both green and sometimes yellow units to aid you on your journey. You can control yellow somewhat, but green just do whatever they want. It can be a big turn off seeing this big battles with 100s of characters on the screen, but personally I really liked it and love how epic they are. Except Part 4. While I didn't mind it too much, the battles really drag on and enemies are all tier 2 while you're tier 3. And it's reinforcements galore. Part 4 is really slow and while I like the idea of splitting your army into three groups, it wasn't always the most exciting but I will take advantage of Elincia's route next playthrough. On the bright side, P4 has pretty much two of my all time favorite boss fights in the series. I should mention hard mode as it's really weird. I mean it's really weird. It basically removes any ability to detect enemy ranges and you have to manually count all enemy movements to figure out placement. On top of that, the weapon triangle and battle saves have been removed. It's probably not a good idea to start on that if you want to play classic and familiar fire emblem. Closing thoughts This post probably is like the game being all over the place because it certainly isn't anything short on faults. The best way I can describe the game is a pink diamond with a large crack down the side and a bunch of chips. It's really going to be hard to tell if you like the game by listening to others say due to what they take out of a Fire Emblem. I've only scratched the surface on some aspects as there's just so much to really talk about when it comes to the details and all the little stuff the game does. Some people may think the game is horrible or one of the worst due to the horrible balancing, not very strong narrative, and mechanics that don't work like Laguz and Biorhythm. Those are the ones who see something cracked or damaged not very valuable or enjoyable to look at. Then there are people like me who really enjoy all the different things brought to the game and made it such an enjoyable experience that despite it not being the best Fire Emblem, it easily is one of our favorites from the experience. One thing I did miss is that Micaiah is a glass cannon lord. She'll never be your best unit and I really think we should go back to that as it goes back to the old chess style older FEs played more on. A lord is a king which is the most valuable piece on the board as if they die you lose. Often times, they aren't very good and need protected but sometimes they can be of use. I really like that style of lord vs Ike who basically doesn't need an army to be successful. I don't think IS will ever do that again as they try to make the lead broken or very strong so you use them more instead of strategically. A lot of people hate Micaiah because she's a "terrible" unit. And we're back to square one. It's really weird when you can talk about a positive of a game also being a negative. And I skipped over so many things so if you want me to talk about something else like tier 3 units I certainly can. If you really like Conquest, this game is easier, but you'll get some feeling from that game in this one, but if you hate Conquest you'll probably hate RD as well. One game I should mention is 3Houses. Despite how unbalanced it is, Radiant Dawn really did handle the shifting perspective pretty well as switching lords didn't feel like torture or agonizing...except 3-13. I hope we actually see this idea exercised in that game as we're seeing a lot of Tellius influence in that game. And as for a possible remake of Radiant Dawn, please add more Dawn Brigade chapters in part 3. That's the main thing I'd really want, supports or at least more info scenes as a side. And sniper 3-13 with the RD soldier voice for Heroes.
  9. From my experience, don't expect anyone to do such a thing. Trying to make one leader perform well at a level 90 range made me want to slam my head against the wall and you expect 18 of them? It's anything but simply raise their levels up as you have new options and what is strong at a low level can be weak at a high one. Hardy didn't even get his proper team or strat it's so hard to perform or cater to doing so. No person is going to go through with this because if they were, we would've well seen this already as I had the foundation to make it work. Hell, you could just make a room for that purpose. Sorry to pop your hopes and dreams, but you're probably going to have to wait on Ame to see something like that.
  10. Okay, this probably should have been one of the first things you did. When someone doesn't explain why they are doing something, it's hard to really understand what people are trying to say or convey because we don't know what issue you have with the current patch system. While you can say it's for fun, there probably was some reason you wanted to do this. Are you tired of constant patches? Or is it simply that the changes are too little in your eyes? Maybe you wanted to go in depth on how you think they are doing patches and why it's good or bad. And I think it's great to judge how someone does do something and have your take on it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it and it's boring if you don't at least go into it a bit. Also, the spacing and how I wrote it this way was intentional as it's so hard to read this way. I'll likely edit it tomorrow so it's easier to read. Mobile it looks fine, but on PC it's so easy to lose track where you're at. I can barely read your post, let alone analyze any of your posts. Gonna stop doing this before it drives me up the wall. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why is it critical that characters who don't meet this benchmark need buffed or nerfed? And why do ones that fit the criteria need to be considered? If they meet the criteria, then they shouldn't even be looked at since that more or less means they are fine. A benchmark pretty much is just a way to filter who to not bother looking at as much or even at all. You talk about how 75 characters is not that many, but that's way, way higher than most fighting games have especially when many of them are very unique and way more varied then pretty much any fighting game. We've doubled Brawl which had a ton of characters at the time. There's not too much else to talk about for me saying how much time should be placed in since that's a thing you should talk about, but I can at least go into characters who do not meet the benchmark. Low tier characters are a good thing. I'm a Ganondorf main and I still use the Jiggly so yes, I know what bottom of the barrel characters feel like. The thing about low tiers doesn't mean the character is bad or not fun to play as, but the fact they aren't able to handle well in most matchups. Buffing characters will not simply solve this issue and most people realize that. Jiggly's main problem is that she cannot combo as well which if that was fixed she'd be top tier and a issue...just like in Melee. Do you want Jiggly to dominate the meta? I'm pretty sure most people don't. I'll say it again for good measure: being low tier does not mean the character is bad. With Ultimate, I personally think having 12 or even 15 characters who don't meet the benchmark would be a good and healthy meta letting low tier characters face low tiers...which Ultimate even thought about with the ranking system. Matchups should be more evenly matched compared to Sm4sh. High tier characters are a different story. Anyone with a brain would tell you a low tier character isn't going to dominate the meta, but Melee Fox is the king of Smash. He and Brawl Meta Knight rule supreme as the best fighters in Smash history. Bayonetta is now the strongest current Smash fighter and it seems she's been worked on...but she'll still be top tier no matter what. But from the looks of it, Sm4sh's Meta is much healthier than any of the previous Smash games (unless you count no MK Brawl) so if the S tiers got nerfed slightly, it'd be a very, very healthy meta. Nerfing 3 characters would be easier than trying to buff 40. A set of 5 or 6 characters ruling over everyone else isn't a bad thing either. So long as they don't eclipse all other fighters, it lets them stand out and for people to practice and prepare for them more. It'd be nice to get rid of the S and G (or whatever the bottom is) tiers but everything else in Sm4sh looks pretty good in my eyes. ZSS is not an S tier but she still manages to do quite well. So how important is that tier? By the way, Greninja is still pretty good even after all the nerfs. And we go back to where we are now. Sm4sh in terms of competetive is great and the balance patches made it better for most people to even get into the competitive. I'm not big on it and I've done online matches quite a bit for the heck of it. They took what was a really good system and quite successful and made it better. Ultimate has so many good thing going for it and so many things to talk about, but it is not flawless. You didn't even talk about all of that stuff simply saying what you would do giving very vague whys. Why does the game need to be more balanced? So many characters are fun to use and we've seen many highlights from all the tiers including a funny Ganon disrespect. Why do you think this system would make the game more enjoyable and how much experience with the meta do you have? We were presented in the last direct from a man with many years of experience learning from his mistakes present something improved of a good product and the reasons behind it are more sound. Of course I'm going to side with that when you've given me no reason not to. And I don't make these long posts to piss people off (that's more of a side effect which is sometimes fun to see angry people), but sometimes as a way to try and help make yourself come across more clearly. You don't have to make nightmare to read posts like I do, but it is nice to follow people's logic, even if you don't agree with it. For all I know, you're just angry about Smash Ultimate because you can be given all the posts before. And yeah, you can throw an idea out for fun, but certainly there had to be some basis of creating it. Without that, I'll stick with my stance that this is somebody who has no idea what they're talking about and stating and using obviously basic information to create a discussion. Good day.
  11. I'm not afraid of anyone calling out on my bullshit so I'm not afraid to do the same to others. This pretty much is just someone who is just stating what they pretty much are doing, but making it sound like they know what they're saying and that Sakurai's team isn't doing their job. It's just a load of ignorance. I'll say bluntly I have no idea on how to balance stuff or the metagame and I definitely will not step on the line because it is not one meant for me to even say what should happen or suggest. Sm4sh had a bunch of tweaks to try and boost variety in online matches and while some may be nonsensical such as nerfing Greninja to death, others did make since and improve the game. I've heard from many people Marth greatly improved over time. These guys add and make changes for the game to try and make it more fun and add a lot of variety. They took a ton of notes when designing the Ultimate characters and even at every demo Sakurai was making notes on what needed tweaked or changed. These guys are going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to tweaking these characters for both better and for worse. The main issue was getting data to make good decisions which elite mode helps trim the fat for the competitive aspect. It's a smart move on top of trying to get people to be better at the game for bragging rights. We now live in a world where we can fix things and patch them out so balance patches aren't something you simply say shouldn't happen. There's pros and cons towards it, but at the end of the day it has promoted more character usage vs the very limited tech focus Melee had to offer. A shifting meta is one which characters often stay high ranked, but others can rise to the challenge allowing for those better at adapting to changes have more chances of reaching the top over those with experience and reaction times. I'm not going to say if all these changes are for the best because I'm not a competitive smash player. We have a few and they'd give better opinions on it. And one last piece of advice: tier lists are subjective and for the most part are unhelpful when thinking about changes or adjustments. Ninetales is PU therefore it should get huge buffs because it's worthless (I'm the guy who used it quite effectively despite that). Things to look for are issues with moves. Let's say a character has a move that's hard to counter or avoid with most characters and it's often the most effective method to win matches easily. You could shorten the range so while it still is useful, players can counter if they rely on it too much. Sakurai is really good at Smash so I hope to god he'd have more knowledge and insight over a couple guys who have been at it for a year or two. Players can give a lot of insight devs do not think about, but nobody has a surefire or perfect way to spectate or know what the best thing to change is or even focus on. I'm going to flip this scenario a bit: Every change is going to have backlash and every new character is going to have backlash. I hope you have the spine to cope with people constantly hating your product and think you're an idiot or dumb person. There are people who think Sakurai is a terrible game dev and should step down and have someone else do it. Let's say you do this system and constantly it ends up failing and making the game progressively worse to the point some characters are now no longer usable and old characters and now the most broken and dominating the meta more than the game was originally. Going back to how it was before is not an option. Tell me, how are you going to fix this? Edit: I reread the OP and I do think I overreacted but then begs the question why is this here? Honestly, I am tired and have no idea what the OP is even trying to say or convey. Like is this saying they are doing a good job or a bad job and why do you think that your way is better? Just ignore little ole me as I have no idea what's going on anymore.
  12. This isn't a list about how good I think each fighter is as not everyone is a competitive smash player and many of us just play as casuals using who we really like just for fun not worrying about being the best. Since I've played every single Smash since release this is a good way to give a more positive post. If you guys want to do all 75 of this nightmare as well feel free or talk about your favorites, but gods don't force yourself to. And yeah I don't know all the nitty details of each change in Ultimate as this is more the entire series as a whole and not how good they are in an unreleased game. Smash Mario - I never really played him much in the original but I loved using him ever since Brawl. He was alright for me in Melee but Brawl is where I started using him to the point I could say he's a secondary. Mario can do pretty much anything, but I love how grounded he is in smash being closer to his Mario 64 incarnation using punches and kicks and then adding his flood. He's just average and standard when you think about it and for a guy who can do anything with power-ups that really does speak volumes. One thing I disliked was how boring his taunts were making him grow large and shrink. As for his games, I love the 3d exploration and many of the spinoff like Paper Mario, but I never could get into Super Mario series except World. Super Mario World was one of the few games my older sister liked so the inclusion of the cape does have a special place in my heart. Mario has always played a big role in my childhood even if I was terrible at it and probably more influential than Pokemon so I'll always have a bias to liking Mario. Donkey Kong - Meet the 100 man melee cheeser. DK is kind of one that's weird for me. I loved him all the way up to Sm4sh, but I just don't like using him in that one and I don't know why. He was always the coolest one to me in the original Smash and the down+b mashing never got old. If I pick up and play older titles, I'd use DK in a heartbeat just due to my bias. As a series, I never got too into DK as I played the original DK Country which was a blast and one of the first games I ever played. I loved DK 64 which I only got to the fifth world, but that's all my experience with him. I really should spend more time so I can get better at using him, but he really just doesn't fit my tastes like he used to. And yes, I will try to cheese 15 minute melee with him again like always. Gotta get that Falco. Link - So my first experience with Link was actually with smash and I absolutely loved to use this guy in the original. It was mostly due to the boomerang. I'm not a very good Link player, but I would be willing to make a fool of myself and use him since I really, really am a huge Zelda fan. Why I don't use him as much anymore is because I feel he's a little bit on the slow side for my tastes. He's still often the first one I go into a new single player mode to scout as since I still can use him decently. As for my Zelda experiences, I played OoT but I never did get past the Deku tree due to not figuring how rolling with fire destroys the spider web. Minish Cap was my second game and I loved it just as much, but it wasn't as amazing as being lost and confused in the original OoT. So now let's talk about Ultimate Link. I actually have mixed feelings with his main outfit being his BoTW canon attire. His moveset is fine and remote bombs are nothing new, but it's Link. His signature is the green tunic and the green hat. It's a small gripe, but I do respect the BoTW representation and will still play him...just with the Green tunic instead. Samus - So here's a fun one. I've never really played Metroid all that much nor was I ever really good at Samus. I'm kind of meh with her as I think she's a cool character. Like many of you, I thought she was a guy when I first saw her as well, but that was corrected when I reached Melee and read the trophies. This might be due to never playing a Metroid game as the first time I played Metroid was Metroid Prime well into the Wii's life cycle. I love those games, but I never really got into Samus's moveset other than her giant scare laser ball of doom. I do prefer her over Zero Suit though. Yoshi - I love him in Melee and Brawl, but I just haven't used him that much ever since. Flutter kick. That's all I ever needed to love using the guy, and I have plenty of stories of him. Being the home run contest hero unlocking a stage is one that I'll never forget in Melee, but my favorite is Mewtwo. For those who don't know, you have to keep the GC on for 24 hours in a match to unlock him and I did that with Marth and Yoshi expecting Marth to take the crown. Guess who won? Yeah, I had to face Mewtwo with Yoshi who wasn't my best fighter and I won. I still feel proud of that achievement. I'm not very good with Yoshi, but he's kind in the middle of the pack. As for games, it's mostly Super Mario World where I used him as I never touched a Yoshi's Island. I did do a tad bit of Yoshi's story, but I've never gotten around to getting and finishing it. I'm so glad he got the stampede in his final smash as I loved Melee's opening and watched it almost every time the game started up. I love the dino, but I'm terrible at him. Kirby - Didn't like him in Smash, but he's one that I use quite a bit and people hate when I use him as I played as him so many times. There is one thing that really changed my mind on him and that came from Melee. He got a hammer. I don't like the hammer changes since then, but I still love using Kirby. Kirby just has so many fun and flashy moves it's really hard not to like the guy. I remember a lot of my friends would use Kirby's grab and slam foes down for the fire effect. I can't hate the guy even if people gripe he's the main character and I really am kind of happy Kirby is our first fighter again. As for his games, I first tried Kirby 64 and I adore that game and don't care if it's awful by today's standards. I haven't played most of the series but the ones I have are a blast with my favorite being Return to Dreamland. I'm not the biggest fan, but I am a Kirby fan and maybe I'll see if I can find some of the 3ds titles like planet Robobot. Kirby isn't one of my mains, but he's pretty close so I'm always familiar with him. Fox - I've always been neutral towards Fox as I don't care to fight him, but I really liked using him in Melee. I haven't used him that much since, but he's fun to use still once in a while. He's definitely one that deserved his spot in the older games, but it's kind of scary thinking he might not have made the cut if we are looking at Star Fox today. We definitely wouldn't have Wolf and Falco added since Star Fox isn't as big as it was. As for the games, I've played bits and pieces and I've grown to like the games more to try and finish Star Fox 64, but I never played much. Pretty much Smash was my first experience towards him and his franchise. Pikachu - I hated this guy forever. I really did not like using or facing Pikachu due to that bloody thunder move when I was little. I've grown to like him more around Sm4sh. I mean it was more a love-hate as some days I didn't mind him and others I didn't want to look at him. I'm definitely going to try him out again in ultimate since I usually play the original 8 a bit before trying new characters. All of them have a soft spot in me due to spending so much time. As for Pokemon experience, I think I actually watched the anime first and I really liked it as a kid even if I grew tired of Pikachu. Very tired. I do like the way Pikachu has always felt to control. Oh yeah I've played both Pokemon Blue and Yellow but I never actually beat Yellow until like 2005. Blue I beat in 1999 or 2000. Yes, I'm old. Luigi - This is gonna sound weird. I love Mario, but I just don't care too much about using Luigi. I don't think he's awful to use, but I just don't really care to use him. His moveset is hilarious though. I do like how the Polterguist has been added in Sm4sh which is a huge plus. I played the original Luigi's Mansion a couple years back and loved that game...Dark Moon not so much. I never unlocked him in Smash so Melee was my first experience with him. One really odd thing is that I prefer Luigi over Mario in pretty much everything but Sm4sh. Especially Galaxy. Ness - If someone is a worse Ness player than me, please let me now. I just can never get the PK thunder recovery right. I think Ness is an amazing character and I welcome any Mother character to Smash no matter what. I never unlocked him either to Melee was my first experience with him. As for the Mother series, I still need to play and beat both Earthbound and Mother 3 the latter which I got rather far. I stopped playing Earthbound as it just wasn't the game for me at the time but I do plan to tackle it rather soon. Also screw whoever decided to bring those Mushrooms into Smash Ultimate. Hate those things. I'm not a Ness player, but I really like the Mother series and it's kind of sad knowing it's dead now. Captain Falcon - Another character I first experienced in Melee. Also, I've never played any F-Zero games as I'm not into racers all that much. So I thought Captain Falcon was cool, but not as much as most people. Though Falcon Punch to this day is the coolest looking attack and always worth pausing to see. I've never been a big Captain Falcon player as he just never really clicked for me and I don't know why. He's definitely fun and flashy, but I just never put the time to get good at using him. Jigglypuff - I LOVE THIS THING AND I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. *Ahem* I have some explaining to do. So Jigglypuff is the only Smash bros character I unlocked in the original smash. This was pretty much my OG smash main as I always really liked Jigglypuff coming off of the anime. She's such a fun character to play as even if she gets nerfed to the ground in Brawl barely being usable. I still really like her and it's really only Smash as I've never used Jigglypuff on any of my teams in any Pokemon game. I've liked her since Smash and even more than Kirby so I'm kind of happy she's pretty much a permanent roster member. Yeah, I know she gets a bad reception due to being really good in Melee, but if you like a character for the character and not how good they are, there shouldn't be any shame in using them once in a while. Melee Peach - There's only two Peaches I really liked: Paper Mario's Peach and Smash's Peach. So I think the funniest thing is that Smash Peach was basically created due to localization. So the game most of Peach's moveset is based off of wasn't even a Mario game in the first place and one cosmetic change for the West sparked the playable Peach we know today. The one time censorship was a good thing. As for Peach, I thought I'd hate her, but ended up loving her because she was hilarious to use from throwing Turnips to her butt bomber (I think it's called Peach bash). She's never in my priorities but I definitely would pick up and use Peach for fun whenever I can. I never really use Peach that much outside of Smash as her voice does irritate me. Bowser - Bowser I didn't like until Brawl. I never hated Bowser, but I really only used him for the belly flop suicides in Melee. It was Subspace Embassy that got me into really liking Bowser due to being a heavyweight and being able to take damage. Bowser was the heavy hitter who did damage to the boss while waiting for the Trophy Stand to spawn especially for the bosses on Intense Mode. I did get every single boss trophy though and Meta Ridley and Tabu were the biggest salt moments...especially Meta Ridely. I haven't really used Bowser since then, but he definitely has a soft spot for me being the MVP for getting boss trophies and especially Galleon's. I might try to use him more since I really do like how heavies controlled in Sm4sh. Ice Climbers - Like most people, I've never played Ice Climbers outside of the Smash Demos. As for the characters, I really do like them, but I see why people hate them in competitive as Brawl they were immune to sliding on ice and Melee the could trap people easily to KO them. As much as people hate them, they kind of are rather interesting being from a game most people probably wouldn't even know existed if they weren't in smash and are that little guy who left a big splash. I love the idea behind Ice Climbers and they definitely were one of the most unique fighters brought in from Melee so I can't hate them and it was always fun seeing Nana get KO'd and still being able to fight. It was sad seeing them cut in Sm4sh due to online limitations, but it's gonna be interesting how a room of 4 Ice Climbers works. Sheik - So I know a lot of people love Sheik, but I never really got into using her. I'm just not too into speedy characters, but to each their own. I said I was a big fan of Zelda, but OoT isn't my favorite Zelda game by any means. It's a good game, but it didn't wow me as much as Wind Waker and Minish Cap for me even with my childhood nostalgia of Kokiri Forest. I'm not very good at Sheik mostly because I just really don't use her like at all. Kind of funny how I have so little to say about a top tier Smash fighter. Zelda - Unlike her Sheik form, Zelda is a not so good fighter, but I adore her from Melee and even up to now. So Twilight Princess is a game that I know a lot of people loved, but I only thought it was okay with a lot of annoying aspects like how slow it is to travel hyrule field the first time....if you go the wrong bloody way. I also had mixed feeling about Twilight Princess Zelda as she looks so much better than N64 Zelda, but TP is the odd one not being blonde and not a good representation of Zelda. I love the redesign and so many people do. I always liked blonde Zelda and looking back she looks like a really, really similar to her old Melee model, but way better. I have always preferred using Zelda over Sheik and pretty much have used and tried Zelda in every Smash game since Melee. I probably won't main her, but I definitely won't shy away from using her especially with her awesome new design. Who needs to be good when you look that good? Dr. Mario - So I have a cool story behind this character. So I saw a smash bros Melee demo with one of the fighters being Dr. Mario and feel in love with this game because it looked amazing at the time. And it was amazing. He was one of the characters I was excited to unlock and play as due to watching someone fight as him. He's...okay I guess, but he introduced me to Melee. As for the games, I've only played the N64 game at a friends house and...I guess the games are alright. Never been a huge Dr. Mario fan. Only missing one game is pretty good and I might try to use him more in Ultimate as I just rarely have really touched him all that much. I love the pill sound effect as that alone is worth messing with him. Pichu - So the first time I played Pokemon Gold was when I was really sick and a friend loaned it to me. I had a lot of fun with that game even using Ho-oh and Gyarados (ah, youth). As for Pichu, I'm kind of neutral towards him. I know a lot of people disliked him over Pikachu being Pikachu but damaging himself whenever he attacked. Personally, I'm really glad he's back as it was one of those nobody would ever think would ever come back in a million years. And for those saying older Pokemon games aren't getting love, Pichu comes with a Team Aqua Bandanna. I'm not going to use him, but it's amazing to see him back. Falco - I really didn't know who Falco was until Melee kind of introduced him to me and I really liked his character. I still really like him though Wolf definitely if my favorite in terms of personality from the Star Fox games. I really haven't used Falco all that much, but I just don't care to use any of the Star Fox crew. Maybe I'll try him out more in Ultimate, but probably not. I don't dislike him and even used him a bit in Melee. Marth - So Smash Bros has a large variety of characters and often times one just clicks for you. That's Marth for me. First time I used him, I just knew he was going to end up one of my favorites for a very, very long time and still is my favorite fighter to use. I actually almost bought Shadow Dragon for DS I love this guy so much. As for where I first played Fire Emblem, it'd be Awakening after hearing so many good things about it. I was deeply engrossed in that game and I wonder what things would be like if I started with Shadow Dragon. It's too late now and I'm now a big Fire Emblem fan and have finished Shadow Dragon. FE12 on the other hand...I still need to work on. Also, I love Japanese Marth to death, but I think I'm starting to like Marth talking in English. Completely different character than I thought he'd be. Young Link - Oh this character is certainly something. Melee had a lot of clone characters and Young Link got replaced by Toon Link. While WW Link is my favorite Link in the series, I secretly kind of missed Young Link seeing as Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game. I gave up hope ever seeing the Hero of Time ever make another appearance in a Smash game. The best way to describe this is that seeing Young Link in the announcement trailer was to me as Snake was to quite a number of people. Young Link is my second favorite Melee fighter and I while I don't think I'll main him, I'll likely try using him a number of times. I wish he had a cooler final smash, but him being in the game is beyond enough for me. It's a miracle I never expected to happen in a million years as we all figured Toon Link was Young Link. Ganondorf - So we had internet at this day and age and when I saw how to unlock Ganondorf...I had no idea what a Ganondorf was (I didn't get far in OoT). This guy kicked my ass so many times in the event that I was so pissed when I screwed up the match to recruit him having to go through that song and dance all over again. You can bet your ass I used him after taking so many beating and he was pretty fun to use. Then Brawl happened and oh my god he fell so far down the chain. He got completely changed and he was so much slower and it hurt my soul. Then Sm4sh happened and all was good and I really, really like him even better after that to the point he's one of my mains. Do I need to mention all of the Zelda titles I beat? I will say that I like his TP design about as equally as the Ultimate design. Kind of wish they kept the TP one, but I won't complain as both are good looking. Mewtwo - You know when you work hard for something, it feels so much better when you get it. That's Mewtwo for me. Mewtwo already was one of my favorite Pokemon so him being in Melee was someone I was going to use. He also was really fun to watch seeing him spam Shadow Ball, his back throw, and flipping people in the air. He also was my MVP and savior going through both Pokemon Stadium games including a struggle fight between Blissey. Him not being in Brawl really kind of upset me being my third favorite fighter in that game. Yeah, Lucario certainly didn't help swallowing that pill. And yes, it was a grand time using Mewtwo online and having fun being able to finally use him again. Roy - So Roy really was only good for one thing: Home Run Contest. Roy's charge shot was one of the most amazing things in Melee and it was hilarious how far it could launch that Sandbag. I wasn't too fond of him other than that as I much preferred Marth, but my little sister loved Roy. I haven't finished Roy's game either, but it was not a good time for our boy. And then he came back in Sm4sh and my opinion of him completely changed. I always thought he was a cool looking character, but Sm4sh really did wonders for him making him feel much different than Marth and his own character. I'm so glad Roy is here to stay even if it made a hilarious comic compilation. And while I'm talking about Fire Emblem, the FE theme on Hyrule Temple is my favorite in Melee. I love the recruitment theme from Marth's games. Mr. Game & Watch - Whoever thought that the final character should be this guy lead to one hell of an anti-climatic final playable character and you had to work for it. I don't hate Game & Watch, but I never really liked him either. At first he was a very alienated character not fitting in, but now he...still is. Nobody is as weird as this guy, not even Piranha Plant. He's a 2d character fighting in a game with 3d characters. I do think Ultimate did wonders to this guy and I think I might give him a second chance as I liked him from what I used, but there just were a few things missing for me personally. As for playing, I've played things similar to G&W but never an actual G&W and don't plan to as I'm not a fan of those things. Still probably the most out there character in the game. Brawl Meta Knight - Oh this is a fun one. I'm probably the one person who didn't care for MK in Brawl, but grew to love him in Sm4sh. I did have some Kirby under my belt and I really loved how Meta Knight played when you controlled him in those games. As for why I like him in Sm4sh, I like swords and I like Kirby's multi jump recovery. It's just kind of like Marth where it just clicked for me in Sm4sh and likely will be using him a lot in Ultimate as he's amusing to help train up Amiibo. Also, can I just say he has one of the coolest looking swords. Maybe that's why I use him so much. Pit - We probably should have read the writing on the wall with the Melee trophies as we might have seen him and Meta Knight coming. Pit is the character my little sister ended up really liking (probably because he looks like Roy) and I pretty much was rather neutral. I don't hate Pit, but I didn't care for him since I didn't know him much. Can I just say I love Kid Icarus Uprising for everything but the controls? I never played the old games, but that game is worth playing on the 3ds for the writing alone. I kind of went 180 seeing Pit with a personality and he's really quite likeable. I'm really glad Sakurai added him and I really hope there's another Kid Icarus game for the switch. I'm not even mad about 3 Kid Icarus reps after playing that game. Zero Suit Samus - It's funny seeing as all three of these characters (plus one more) were all revealed at the same time. I kind of miss the days where character reveals weren't so big and there were big surprises left for the official release of the game. Anyways, Zero Suit was a nice surprise I was expecting and over time I've grown to like using her more and more. I just have to block Other M from my mind every time I see that suit. I like her a lot more than many of my so-so group, but I don't think I'll ever main her. Definitely has a fun kit. Wario - And the winner for the most WTF just happened trailer should go to this guy. The man ends the trailer with a nuclear fart. I've never been the biggest Wario fan, but I've only played the Warioland games which are really fun. I've never tried the Microgames, but I definitely respect them for building quite the unique series. Warioware is probably the randomest game you will come across where you can pick someone's knows and play fire emblem within 2 minutes. As for the fighter himself, I really dislike using him. I just don't see him much fun to use outside of the Motorcycle and then seeing him eat it. I do wish they had a tad bit more references to Warioland within his character, but he is based off of Warioware so I can't complain too much. Snake - I had no idea what a Metal Gear was when he was introduced, I still have not even touched a Metal Gear game despite owning a collector's addition, and I still don't know much about Metal Gear. Snake is probably the most odd one out fighter in Smash, but he certainly was a fun one to use. It's characters like Snake that make you wonder how Brawl got that T for teen rating. He was a fun one who helped out with trophy collecting and I'm both surprised and glad Snake is back. I'm hoping the conversations are back, but I'm not holding my breath. Those alone made Snake the best addition to Brawl. I'm not the best with him, but hey he was our first crossover character and he certainly left a bang. I do want to note that these 5 plus Sonic were the only ones revealed until the game's release. Ike - I didn't care for him in Brawl. He wasn't Marth and didn't feel like Marth so I just brushed him off. It actually wasn't until I played the Tellius games that I gave him another chance. I think knowing who Ike is really made me like him more so I started using him more in Sm4sh and I'm pretty comfortable as while he's not one of my mains, I definitely use him almost as much as Meta Knight, Ganondorf, and Marth. And if I'm honest, I think he's a better inclusion than Roy as Marth. I really think Marth, Ike, and Robin really are the 3 best fighters to represent the Fire Emblem series and well the Tellius games are my favorite. And while he looks much older than he really is, I prefer buff Ike over PoR Ike being one of the odd Lord designs at the time (later being used for Chrom). Ragnell also is a cool looking gold sword and definitely caught my eye the first time I saw it. Kind of scary thinking he may have been the last Fire Emblem fighter due to the series almost being killed off. Pokemon Trainer (Red) - I'm not sure how I felt about Pokemon Trainer in Brawl as I didn't care much for him as a fighter. I loved his inclusion and I'd vouch for him being my favorite of the Pokemon fighters, but I really disliked using Charizard. Ivysaur and Squirtle were fun to use and I still think I'll mess with them from time to time. But Smash Ultimate had another surprise for me with them including Leaf, my favorite protagonist design in the main games. I am what they call a Gen Wunner but I really, really loved the Fire Red and Leaf Green remakes more than the original to the point I can safely say I enjoyed them more than HGSS which I could praise those games to the heavens. Pretty much when I saw Leaf I was like "Take my money I'm already sold." I always shrugged off alt colors, but this game has some absolutely amazing ones I might start using them more. Diddy Kong - So another fun one. DK 64 is where my feelings for Diddy sprouted. He's my least favorite Kong to use in that game and I really despise the jetpack mechanic thrown at me as the controls felt so clunky. I did like his guitar though. I hated using Diddy in Brawl though and while I have a better handling of him now, I really, really do not like using him at all. I think his moveset is really neat featuring a lot of DK 64 in it, I just don't care to use him. A DK rep is a DK rep and I think it's good we finally have 3 for his series. Lucas - So my first experience with Lucas was in Subspace Emissary and can I just say that Brawl does not do him justice at all leaving me with an impression of Lucas is kind of a meh or terrible character. He was just a cowardly boy who gained courage following Pokemon Trainer. Ness had such a cool intro in Melee it made me want to try his game vs Lucas who had just not the best entrance. Playing his game made me flip my opinions on Lucas making me super glad he got in on what would be a game fans would be dying for to get localized for years and more years to come. You don't understand the cry to get this game localized until you play it which is a damn shame. One of the best RPGs on GBA and one I'd argue is the best and we're talking about big competition like Golden Sun, Fire Emblem, and KH: CoM. I still don't like using him much but I'm definitely more of a Lucas fan over a Ness fan and would go for Lucas in a heartbeat if I had to choose between the two. By the way, I am so ecstatic Kumatora appears in the final smash. She's my favorite in the game with Boney being a close second. Sonic - Oh boy Sonic. The best way to describe the Sonic franchise is they were on par with Mario, still decent when going to 3d with the Adventure games, had many misses and falls since then, and fell flat on their face many times, but is still going somehow and still a big gaming icon. Sonic was bound to be in Smash eventually as what was a rivalry kind of is an awkward friendship. I never really got into the 2d Sonics, but I loved Sonic Adventure and all it's awfulness and clunkiness as a whole. Adventure 2 almost as much...except for the space emerald hunts. As for Sonic in Smash, I don't really care to use him in all honesty. They did capture him perfectly being able to piss people off with his homing attack and for being so fast. It's really fun in special to do bunny hood and curry with speed x2 as Sonic as you're not fighting your oponnents, but trying not to fly off the stage. I don't like controlling Sonic at all but he'd be fun in that F-zero race to the finish from Melee Adventure Mode. King Dedede - So my first experience with this penguin was Kirby 64 and I really, really liked him especially the segments you control him. I didn't know who he was because Kirby 64 had a weird way of storytelling, but Dedede definitely is one of my favorite in the Kirby series and I like his battles much more than Meta Knight's. Masked Dedede's theme is so crisp. As for a fighter, I'm kind of neutral towards using him as I can't really get the knack for him, but like his moveset. Then again, he's a goofy penguin with a hammer aka my favorite Kirby power-up. I have quite a bit of bias towards him, but I don't think I'll ever end up using him more. Olimar - I don't think I played a single Pikmin game until near the end of the Wii's lifespan, but those games are really fun. My first impressions of Olimar were always just so-so and I really did not like his fighting style with the Pikmin as it is kind of annoying trying to find and use the right one. I don't think I have Pikmin anymore, but I did beat the original one which I'm so proud of. Never beat the second one though or even tried the third. I really like Pikmin as a series and am glad for the rep, but Olimar just isn't the fighter for me. Lucario - Oh boy this Pokemon. This was one of the most hyped Gen IV Pokemon if not the most hyped Pokemon in the history of the franchise. He was even treated almost like a legendary and was really hard to get as you needed to get an Egg after doing a full optional sidequest. He was so frail and died super easily I was so let down and kind of hated the guy. It didn't help that so many people loved and praised the damn thing. Brawl certainly didn't help things. Imagine one of your favorite fighters being cut and this guy showing up who felt oddly similar to Mewtwo. I was so pissed probably like many other Mewtwo fans at the time. I refused to use him unless absolutely necessary like collecting his smash trophies. I don't mind him as much now, but I still am kind of reluctant to use him and would rather keep on using Mewtwo. I'm not a big Lucario fan, but I kind of may try him out more in Ultimate as he has some fun stuff. By the way, I actually was interested to see what Lucario brought until I saw how similar he was to Mewtwo so I did give him a chance in Brawl. ROB - While Subspace did a lot of things wrong, I do think it showcased every character in its own special way and really made what would have been a nothing and a wtf character be a lot more welcomed to the team. I never had a ROB, but I really like him in the game. I'm just absolutely awful and the recovery controls I could never get a handle on. I did like him a lot more in Sm4sh, but I don't ever think I'll main him or really use him all that much. I can't find it anymore, but I still remember that video with R.O.B. doing a dance. I wish I could find that video because it made me like the Robot even more. Toon Link - First, I'll always call it WW Link still because he's WW only at heart. He's my favorite Link in the series just due to being so expressive and making some of the goofiest sounds still ingrained into my head. I never actually have used him all that much actually though there's not too many reasons why I haven't. I guess I just stuck with normal Link all this time. Wind Waker is pretty much what got me hooked into Zelda as while sailing was a tad bit boring, exploring all the islands was still fun and the graphics looked gorgeous at the time. And pictographs were fun too making all those figurines despite how tedious it was. I never did 100 percent it, but man what a game. I will complain that I feel the art style in Smash really doesn't convey what I'd call the water color style in Wind Waker as much and one of the very few (or maybe only) I feel the original looks better than the smash version. He's not bad looking, but he just doesn't feel the same as he was in WW where he almost looked 2d even. Wolf - I didn't know who Wolf was for the longest time despite reading the trophy in Melee. I connected the dots now. This guy pretty much was the Ganon of Brawl for me giving me pain and suffering. Only this time I had to go through a full level just to try and get him. I never really liked Wolf as his specials were just so weird compared to Fox I thought they were impractical. I've never played much Star Fox so I never met Wolf in those games, but I know the classic line. I'm glad he's back in Ultimate as I'm willing to give him another shot to see if I end up liking him since I really didn't in Brawl. Sm4sh Villager - So if I had to pick a favorite Sm4sh announcement, it'd have to be for the villager. I loved Animal Crossing ever since the Gamecube so it getting a rep made me super happy. I didn't play much of Wild World, but I loved the original, City Folk, and especially New Leaf. It's also one of the opposites where I knew the franchise before it was introduced into the games. As for Villager himself, he's a weird character that I don't see myself playing much. Don't get me wrong. He's really fun to use, but I have plenty of other fighters I prioritize using. That ax meme though is great. Megaman - Was anyone surprised by this one? Mario, Sonic, and Megaman are just this odd trilogy where it feels wrong if you have two but not the other. I never really got into Megaman as a series nor as a character in game and I really haven't fully played a Megaman surprisingly. It's one of those things I really need to do at some point but I'm not the biggest fan of 2d platformers. I've always thought Megaman was cool, but I just don't know why I never got into it. I never could get into using him as a fighter either but I love how they included all the Megaman in the final smash. Wii Fit Trainer - She's weird, but it does make a bit of sense why she's on the roster. Wii Fit was a pretty popular thing with a big gimmick so it's not too surprising they'd include her if you really thing about it. I played some Wii Fit myself and some of it was really fun. As for the actual character...what a weird character. Someone really was on something when designing this as it's such an interesting moveset, but I really could never get into using her. That trailer was also absolutely amazing being one of the funniest to date. Rosalina & Luma - I love Mario Galaxy. It's nowhere near Sunshine, but I had a blast 100%ing that game with all its wonky platformers. The exploration purple coin missions were always my favorite though. Anyways, I always loved Rosalina's design in Galaxy though I figured she'd be one of those one and done type of characters. Nope, she's pretty much considered one of the main Mario members even appearing in Mario Party, Racing, and 3D World. It's interesting to think about, but the last Mario character introduced who constantly keeps reappearing is Bowser Jr. followed by Waluigi. I'm not a fan of using her or the Luma mechanic (I suck at her basically), but I never would have guessed a character I liked who I figured would be a one-off would end up in Smash. Little Mac - So whoever thought making Little Mac a super tiny assist trophy was brilliant as I thought he looked so weird it was pretty funny seeing him kick butt. I haven't used Little Mac all that much, but I love Punch Out for the Wii. I should play it some more. If we have to have a new character give the conversations, I really hope it's Doc because he's pretty hilarious. He pretty much was made to be in smash being the little boxer who took down Mike Tyson. He also had such a cool intro video. I know a lot of my buddies picked him as they thought he was fun, but I never could really get into Little Mac, but he's a fun character. Greninja - With Smash, you can never win with whatever Pokemon you pick. Greninja to me was pretty much "Really? We're doing this again." Lucario was one of the most popular Gen 4 reps and well Greninja pretty much was the most popular Gen 6 rep with little inbetween. So I kind of broke my tradition of always picking the water starter because I just didn't really like Greninja. Then you get it slapped in your face whenever you talk or battle competitively because of how "good" and "broken" it was. Unlike Lucario, I actually really like playing as Greninja in Smash as he was rather fun and had a bunch of fun moves. I should probably use Greninja more but there's just so many characters it is just easy to neglect or forget about a character. Mii Fighters - You know it's both funny and painful remembering all the videos with both Reggie and Iwata facing off against each other as Miis. We got Reggie in Smash which was probably one of the funniest campaigns we've ever had. Miis are pretty much the customization of everything Nintendo. They really aren't so fun to use in battle, but I love all the outfits they get and I personally was the Black Knight slaying thy enemies one Eclipse at a time. As for gaming, the Miis were the highlight of the Wii U watching all those pictures drawn and shown. It's so sad it's gone now as some of those were pure works of art and you could sit there waiting to see if your favorite game got art while watching the chat. Miitopia was also a blast and one that really surprised me. I like the Miis and they kind of are that little customization that the game needed, but it went beyond Miis given all characters more than just their original moves which is crazy to think about. Palutena - So I didn't play Kid Icarus before this and I thought Palutena was going to be this character I probably was going to hate (this is a recurring theme I see), and she sucks to use in Sm4sh. I for the life of me cannot use Palutena without getting destroyed I'm so bad at her. No seriously, I am not worse at any character as much as I am at Palutena. Despite that, I love her in Kid Icarus Uprising and she's half the reason to even play and try out that game making fun of Pit all the time. Seriously, that game is worth playing for the dialogue alone. I really hope she's better in Ultimate as she deserved better than what she got. Pac-Man - Fun classic arcade game everyone with Google has played. I...actually haven't used Pac-man like at all. He's an odd character, but with such a big cast he just kind of got neglected as he didn't interest me all that much as a fighter. He was alright from the like two matches I used him and that final smash is so funny. I wish I could say more, but I never played much Pac-Man. Lucina - I love her design...that's about it. I don't like her as a fighter, her character in Awakening is so meh, and there's a better character to talk about Awakening with. She's just not easy to talk about as her character is the size of her chest. I don't hate her and was excited to try her, but she's just a worse Marth in my eyes. Then Roy happened and now she's pretty irrelevant. Robin - Of the custom characters, Robin reins supreme in the Fire Emblem franchise. I predicted they'd put Robin in and I was right. It was a pretty obvious choice given Awakening being a huge boom and Robin bringing the parts of Fire Emblem that were lacking. I never got super into Robin trying to figure out the whole durability ordeal but I might try him out more seeing as there's a display for it now which is nice. As for Awekening, I love that game as it got me into the series and I will defend it is a good game. And I think we all were a little glad the Chrom leak was fake as we got something more interesting and better. On thinking on FE, I'd like to petition for Capt Falcon for Heroes for a rematch. Shulk - Of the big names that all made it to Sm4sh, I'd argue Shulk most likely the least known of the entire roster. Pit would have been if not for Brawl and Kid Icarus, but Shulk was quite a big named hero...in anywhere but the States. Even the Xenoblade port was kind of a too little too late Wii game but certainly left a bang and got a lot of people excited, myself included. A lot of people were really happy to see him included as it was kind of a dream come true. A Xeno character in Smash. That's about as close to Square Enix anyone would think we'd ever get. I adore Xenoblade Chornicles and it's one of my favorite Wii games so of course I tried out Shulk as one of my firsts (I love the Xeno series). He was...to be desired to me. I like the idea behind him, but I just couldn't get into him to really use him. He got a good change in Ultimate being able to easy select the power you want, but I don't see myself using him that much. Bowser Jr. - Welcome to a character who added insult to injury with our missing boy, Roy. While I like Bowser Jr, I probably would've preferred him playing as Shadow Mario, but he's a fun character. He's just overused as a villain, but at least he's better than the Koopalings. Oh wait, they're here too. I like Bowser Jr as any time you face him things are bound to get interesting and has some of the best Mario fights in the franchise. As for a fighter, I actually really liked playing him with my favorite attack of his being the drill. I may invest more into him, but I don't know as we just have so many characters it's hard to really pick from all but the ones you're really good at. Though I do think at the time it was kind of annoying to see another Mario rep after Rosalina given we have so many Mario characters. Duck Hunt Dog - ...That dog still mocks people to this very day. So what makes Duck Hunt one of the oddest characters is that all of the above Sm4sh characters were huge hitters that people would get very excited about. I'm not counting Pittoo or Dr. Mario as those were alts. So Duck Hunt really wasn't someone anyone asked for, but the leak had some surprising reactions and the reveal still had surprising reactions. It was a little guy. Nobody got upset or went on rants with his reveal and people were actually excited. I was mostly happy to beat him up from the bits of Duck Hunt I played. I'm not really a fan of his playstyle as it's really weird and I can't get used to it. Props to any Duck Hunt mains though. Pittoo - I wasn't sure where to place him in the order but he never did get an official confirmation if I remember right. Anyways, he's a great character introduced in Kid Icarus Uprising and quite amusing as well. He's kind of a Pit clone and I could see why people were mad about 3 Kid Icarus representatives, but hey he probably didn't take much effort to make and just added a slot on the roster. You can't really hate on clone characters now given we got some awesome ones in Ultimate. My guess this was partially an experiment to see how they were recieved if they wanted to add more. Ryu - It's about damn time he made his way into Smash. I kind of expected one of the old big fighting game names to make their way into the ultimate crossover fighting game. I've never played a Street Fighter game as I'm not really into fighting games (Smash is like the one exception), but I love Ryu in Sm4sh and he's one of my favorites to play as casually. I'm not the best at the combos, but I've gotten the hang of it at one point. Though I do need to practice to get good at him again. Cloud - Remember how I said I never imagined a Square Enix Rep appearing in Smash. If you told me one was, I never would have figured Cloud would be the one. Cloud made a lot of history with his announcement since not only was he the first SE thing for Smash, he also was the first character who never appeared on a Nintendo Console before...until recently. This pretty much tore down the barrier that anything was possible and while I hate FF7 Cloud (I thought the game was only okay), I love how Cloud fights in Sm4sh. He pretty much is the only Sm4sh character who I'd probably even main. As for other FFs, I played up to X. V and IX are my favorites. VI is overrated, and VIII is a mess but I still enjoyed it way more than VII. I haven't played an FF game in a long time though. Now if I'd ever ask for anything else for Cloud, give us either a Chrono color scheme or a Zack alternate outfit. That's the only way to make me like him more. Corrin - Yet another Fire Emblem character. I can't say if we'll hit 8 fighters for FE or not, but we really didn't get a FE rep this time so I'm okay with DLC. I'm kind of mixed with Fates. I love a lot about the games, but there's a lot that I didn't care for to the point I never want a repeat of this. As for Corrin as a fighter, he's weird, but I kind of like him, but I never played him enough to really say if I'd use him more or not. It was so weird learning his controls and it just didn't click. Also, I disliked the censor to Female Corrin's pants at first, but that change kind of has grown on me. Corrin is unique enough that I'm not really upset about them adding a 4th Fire Emblem character in Sm4sh (Roy, Lucina, Robin, Corrin). Maybe I'll try them out some more as I kind of want to play Sm4sh after I'm done here. Bayonetta - If you want to blame a character for ruining the smash community, Bayonetta would be a pretty good guess as a culprit. I know people get annoyed about how good she is competitively to the point you could say she's broken, but it's actually a series of events that follow after her that I think are the issue. So Beyonetta was a highly requested character from the poll which was a dream come true to so many Bayonetta fans wanting to see her in the game. I never played Bayonetta or Bayonetta 2 so I don't know much about these games. I will say out of all the new DLC characters, I had the most fun trying out Bayonetta. She's so much fun to control or use and I don't think it's wrong to like playing as her. If you really like a character, you should be allowed to have fun playing as her. Now if you simply play her because she's good and easy to win with, that's a different story. I guess what I'm saying is that I really like Bayonetta. Ultimate Inklings - You want to know the biggest surprise for me was: Inklings weren't in Sm4sh. Unless you live under a rock, Splatoon was a smashing success and so many people really like it. It even now has a second game. I was so surprised they didn't get in as DLC, but thankfully Ultimate gave them a deserving slot. They deserve to be in Smash Ultimate and I still have yet to open and play my copy of Splatoon. I don't think I'll be playing them that much but they do seem like a fun character to use but not for my tastes. Daisy - For all the people whining about Waluigi not being a fighter, your wait was nothing compared to Daisy fans. People have been wanting Daisy in Smash since Melee and I even remember some of those campaigns. They didn't just want the Peach Costume, they wanted an actual Daisy fighter. I'm more of a Daisy fan then a Peach fan so I guess I'm happy. It's just weird to think about Daisy being an actually playable fighter when the odds seemed really stacked given how much she looks like Peach. Now I never have to worry about using Peach ever again. Oh yeah I loved Daisy since I first saw her in Mario Party 3. Never cared for Waluigi and will never get why so many people like him. Dark Samus - Meet the first American Smash character. There's not much to talk about. I never made it far in Metroid Prime 2, but I did get to that first Dark Samus fight and I struggled like hell to beat it. I really like Dark Samus and I'm really surprised they'd include her (or is it him) in Ultimate. If I use Samus more, I'd probably use Dark Samus since I think they look cooler. Ridley - I think we all thought the same thing seeing this reveal "Holy shit, Sakurai actually took a meme and made it a reality." It's Ridley. Nobody ever though he'd be more than a boss, but here we are now seeing him as a fighter and a really fun one at that. I'm not sure if Ridley will become a main of mine or not given I really like what I see with him. I've never actually faced Ridley in a boss battle other than Brawl and the Demo on the Brawl game but...I always liked how creepy he looked. Also read the Melee trophy description and was rather amused by what he was. Are you starting to see why I'm sad to see trophies go? He also was a part of the issue I'll go into later. Chrom - Chrom is where things start to become an issue with the fandom. If you didn't notice the pattern yet, it feels like they used the poll to determine what characters to create and add which got people excited. Chrom is pretty much like Lucina. I like him as a character Awakening, but I don't know why he's a Roy and not an Ike clone (I know why but I still don't see it). He's fine, but I'm only going to use him to see if Robin's final smash changes which I don't think it will. I'm pretty sure he was a highly requested character and I actually would have rather had pretty much any other FE lord, but likely no FE characters were planned to be developed by the look of things. I don't blame them as we now have 7. Admit it, Eirika would have been a cooler Roy Echo fighter. Simon - I may have completely forgotten about the Castevania series. I just never could get into it as I'm not a big fan of Metroidvania. I wasn't sure about this guy, but I could see me playing as Simon and being one I use a lot since he seems close to the kind of characters I really like and I love so many of his attacks. He does look kind of ugly, but you never send a pretty boy to hunt demons and vampires unless... Richter - I have no idea who this is, but I like him. I know he's an echo of Simon, but I think everyone likes him more than Simon just because he kind of looks like Joseph Joestar. I can't say much but I'll definitely be trying one of these two guys out as they look like a blast on top of that iconic whip. So much love for Castlevania. K. Rool - And meet the number one problem child for getting people's hopes way too damn high. People expected too much after this reveal so there only being two fighters was something people outright would deny. I love how K. Rool looks and fights, but my only real experience seeing what he does way DK 64. I'm not actually sure if he's going to be one I use or not as he has a lot of interesting attacks. He's another I'm likely going to pick up and try and if I like him I'll try to get good with him. Isabelle - Since the first time I met her in New Leaf, I've always had mixed opinions about our little secretary. I honestly think she's grown on me over time. I was kind of upset that the reveal was Isabelle being a smash character over a new Animal Crossing game, but we got the confirmation which made me happy. From what I've seen, Isabelle might be the most broken character added in Ultimate. I was kind of meh on a second villager, but I really like her and will try her out. I doubt she's going to be one I use a lot, but I love all the references they threw in with Isabelle like the fishing rod. Ken - You didn't need to see a leak to make a good guess Ken was coming to Ultimate. I saw the name and figured he likely was a character and we got him. Ken may become one of my mains at it solved the one issue I had with Ryu: I wish he was faster. And like many people have said, Ken looks so great in Smash compared to any of the street fighters recently. I'm happy for his inclusion and I really am surprised he's not a direct clone of Ryu and almost can be considered his own character due to those little changes. Incineroar - I was upset with Incineroar...for about a millisecond and I love him. Expectations were set way too high for this game and so many people were upset, but what's really upsetting is we haven't seen any little guys or the wtf as almost all of these are behemoths being a representative of a new franchise or highly requested. While Pokemon is popular, we've got the Pichu of this generation. Nobody really wanted him and would rather have had Decidueye. Those people should get over themselves as you got two of the most popular Pokemon at the time in previous titles. It was probably unintentional, but I actually like the underdog being in Ultimate. He looks really fun as well. He's going to be the first one I'm trying in Ultimate and I could totally see him becoming one of my new mains. Actually, I think he will be added to the mains crew. He's basically what I wanted Bowser to be. DLC Piranha Plant - So many people were "upset" about the Smash direct and the DLC character that was revealed certainly didn't help. In all honesty, I think our plant overlord made a fine addition and certainly will be rather interesting to see how viable he is. Maybe he's really good or maybe he's terrible. But if I had to describe smash using one character, Piranha Plant would honestly be the most fitting. Smash bros isn't about giving players the most popular and wanted characters. It's a fighting game where all of Nintendo clashes against each other and anyone has a shot of getting in. Sometimes it sparks new life in old characters. Nobody ever thought about Piranha Plant because he pretty much is considered more of a hazard than an enemy. Now we've got him as a mobile fighter which is kind of crazy. I don't think Piranha Plant will be someone I use a lot, but we really, really needed an out there unique small character after hitting so many of the popular ones. (I may edit and add thoughts whenever a DLC is announced) Afterthoughts: Honestly, I'm looking back and adding such a small cast of newcomers might actually be a good thing. I've played the original Melee cast quite a number of times I'm comfortable talking about them all, but Brawl I had a couple I only lightly touched. Sm4sh I have plenty I have to think about if I even used in the first place. So is it really a bad thing if we only have 6 new fighters to learn how to use? It gives me plenty of time to try out a bunch of the oldies I have been neglecting and get more comfortable with them. One day, I will be good at Palutena. One day.
  13. This is why segmented releases shouldn't go above 10. People do have a hard time when they can't use their fingers.
  14. Sigh...EA isn't this special snowflake doing something like this. It was an immoral but not illogical move as the mobile market thrives on this. So I don't get why it is important since it's going to be played by another company down the line.
  15. I can't since I'm on mobile but the best way to describe it is that you are probably missing this small opening to the east or west between two trees that does not look crossable.
  16. Showdown usernames and passwords are different from Reborn Forums. If you have a showdown account saved anywhere, you should be able to use it on any showdown channel or server. Reborn forums are completely separate from it. Pokemon Showdown is a battle simulator which has its own system as well and you just use the sidebar of create a new team and go from there. If you are referring to the online play in the game, it's the same logic, but uses in-game teams to fight people on the game's server to battle or trade. Again, it's a separate thing from showdown. I hope that clears up any confusion though I'm not really sure what you're asking for.
  17. (Plays Get Over the Barrier while working on stuff)

  18. And if you hate a game so much, just don't buy it. Nobody is going to belittle you for not playing a game they love. Nobody honestly cares. And just to add insult to injury, this affects your reputation around here... not that weird mechanic thing. The more maturely you handle something the better the feedback and responses usually. Otherwise, we will just end up rolling are eyes and ignoring it. Gadot, you forgot to mention Piranha Plant. It seems like he is the new Rob and a nightmare for anyone with close range styles. I'm not an expert on smash though. ...only of it's bitter and full of salt. Stop asking for attention as I think Gadot and I are beyond done with this ordeal. You want to continue, fine but I'll be chilling with the fun people to talk to Smash about.
  19. I thought you'd be pro censorship since Incineroar is a Mexican wrestler and should be removed for being racist. First off, the G&W removal is a joke playing on the fact he's the color black. Secondly, he's not going to be removed over a stupid reason like that. A slight cosmetic alteration is very, very different than removal of a character. We're talking about going from upsetting 10,000 people slightly to a million people being outraged. They would retract the removal of G&W instantly because that's cutting a character purely for a weak stance. Trust me, we have very, very little worry about content getting cut...for now. Nintendo has really loosened their censor policy lately. I'm just going to at least explain why it happened. The ESRB was created as a level of censorship and anti-censorship to prevent certain age groups from viewing certain things but as well as not forcing localization to remove as much content. Certain things would be axed from some games which some were nonsensical such as removal of blood to keep a teen rating. It's why you see some nonsensical stuff or weird changes with localization. We've gotten A LOT better and more open then before. Then Sony takes a step back and we're seeing some ridiculous censorship. One game ready for release got canceled due to the change in policy. That's important as I'll come back to it in a minute. There are some fields Nintendo and anyone doesn't want to trend. They will not fight a political battle if they don't have to. Publishers don't want to deal with racism which could possibly be dealing with court stuff, but very, very unlikely. So if it's not that impacting, it's best to avoid that and the controversies it'd start. All it would do is leave a worse image over something small. We saw this change in Bravely Second as well because of cultural reasons. I'm not really going to pick a side here as while it is censorship, it's something they would have done eventually it seems due to their beliefs. I'm against it and I will fight it, but it's a battle I'd take the loss for over other things. Fight the battle knowing you'll probably lose is what I'd call it. This isn't anything new and we'll do this song and dance again and again. I'm against censorship, but this has been this way for at least 25 years. I'll take this if I have to but we've had games who've had it much, much worse such as Fire Emblem Fates being one of the more recent. Nearly every game you played likely has had some form of censorship actually. Let that sink in before making a vague post to panic people. It's when you blindly go at things it causes issues.
  20. Finally after over a year, I finally got the most rep for a day.

  21. Resident Evil is one of those series that it's so up in the air that I can't really say "Oh they'll include him" or "No, they won't." It was only due to begging from what I remember that Snake got in so I can kind of see Sakurai being on the fence about including shooters or violent. We have on top of it so many characters with so many guns and weapons he just doesn't add all that much so I don't particularly see anything that can be brought to the table. It's a mostly blame Snake over anything. From my eyes, I see very little what he'd bring, but being theoretical and pretending Snake doesn't exist, he would not be as out there as you might think. Resident Evil is a pretty iconic series and we've seen Fatal Frame make a nice little appearance so another horror series being represented wouldn't be so much as a stretch now. RE appeared on a Nintendo console so it's definitely a possibility. I just think it's unlikely since I really don't think Sakurai is too fond of shooter characters. His odds are much better than anyone in Golden Sun if that makes you feel better.
  22. From the sound of it, it'd probably be Pyra or Mythra (or however you spell those name), but it sounded more like they already have a good idea who they want for the 5 and decided not to go with Xenoblade 2 which is why they put in all the XB2 stuff. If we're getting another Monolith rep, my best guess would be KOS-MOS given the ties with Bamco and it kind of being the signature of Monolith soft. I don't think we're going to get anything from Monolith Soft though. As for my guesses, I'm going by Sm4sh and going with third party candidates: Yuri Lowell (Tales of Vesperia) - I know a lot of people say Lloyd, but this guy is to Tales of as Cloud is to Final Fantasy. And before you complain about a sword fighter, Yuri is kind of like a hybrid of Marth and Ryu. While he uses his sword quite a bit, he also uses his fist being designed to do swift combos. He's got a ton of tools to work with including throwing Repede into the mix if they wanted. He's way more unique than Lloyd who'd kind of perform in a manner similar to Marth. I'll be very surprised if a Tales character isn't one of the DLC and given the upcoming remaster of Vesperia just makes Yuri a more logical sense for Bamco to push a little bit. KOS-MOS (Xenosaga) - While I don't think she'll make it in, I'll at least mention she'd have quite a unique moveset probably being Samus but with the ability designed to fight in close quarters more than range. She's got a lot to work with and I mean a lot. Her signature gatling guns, the dragon, x-buster, sabers, a giant mech, and plenty more. She was the first crossover character in Xenoblade 2 for a reason and for a dead franchise, she's come back to crossover games like Project X. Hey you could throw in a T-elos model as well for a costume. Segata Sanshiro (Sega Saturn) - I'm mostly kidding with this guy, but it'd be awesome for the Sega legend to return and I couldn't think of a better WTF character to top Piranha Plant. Project x Zone 2 gave him a number of new moves but I'm not sure if he'd have enough material to make him a workable fighter. It would make my year though. Dragon Quest Protagonist (Dragon Quest Series) - It's kind of a hard pick between DQ and BD in terms of if they'd get a second SE Rep. DQ is more famous and they could even throw an octopath traveler into the mix if they really wanted to. The reason Geno has little chance is that he's facing the Mario Rep pool and the SE Rep pool both of which have so many behemoths. I mean Toad and Paper Mario kind of have priority over him. DQ Protags have a variety of classes and while I'd prefer Tiz, they have an endless supply of what they are capable of. SE just is a behemoth and I'm not even sure if we'll even get a second rep from them. Dr. Eggman/Tails (Sonic Series) - Another I'll be surprised by is if we don't get another Sonic character into Smash. I'll be very, very surprised if Eggman isn't either a boss or a DLC fighter because he's a rather fun one with all his toys and gizmos. He'd probably use his Adventure 2 robot to battle, but who really knows because he has a near limitless amount of machines. If he is, I really hope the Egg Carrier or Death Egg is his final smash. Tails would be my second guess as he's got quite a bit of gadgets and the iconic tornado airplane. Just for the love of god don't give Tales the Tales doll. Heihachi (Tekken) - We haven't seen anything on this guy while Akira was an assist trophy now. He's a pretty good guess as I'm sure at least some new IP fighter is going to show up and this is the only one I have to go off of. You'd have to go to an expert for a better guess, but I'm only going with what I know and this guy was a Mii fighter outfit. Saki Amamiya/Ray MK III (Sin & Punishment/Ray MK) - So these two have an interesting story. Both of these character have appeared in multiple Smash bros games through trophies and other means. I'm leaning more towards Saki since his assist trophy model just kind of...vanished. I think Ray MK would be way too difficult to make a model which is why he got the cut and got a Mii fighter outfit. And that goes back to Saki Amamiya which pretty much only needed a tad bit of polishing to be an assist trophy in Ultimate. I'm not too familiar with the Sin & Punishment series other than its a shooter but it always looked interesting so you'd have to go to an expert to really digest what their moveset would be. My 5 guess would be Yuri, KOS-MOS, Heihachi, Saki, and Eggman, but I really, really doubt all 5 or maybe even of those 5 could be the DLC. It's just an example of what candidates they could choose with sound reasoning in a dark tunnel.
  23. Shadow has pretty much 0 chance since Sakurai said no Echoes for DLC. Shadow is to Sonic as Ken is to Ryu and they considered Ryu as an Echo when there's a tad bit to differentiate the two. Anyways, we really have no leads on what Sakurai wants to do but most likely it'll be relevant or active characters in a franchise (so RIP Isaac fans and probably Geno fans and I guess Black Knight). We are completely in the dark in terms of DLC other than that. Hate to kill your hopes, but none of the ones who people are really hoping for are looking too hot right now.
  24. I've waited so long to use this gif
  25. First, I thought the Last Jedi was an alright movie. Secondly, you've made a number of posts to the point it's where we laugh instead of taking what you say seriously (then again, angry people on the internet are always fun to laugh at). I mean I really, really didn't want Isabelle in the game, but do you see me making a whole bunch of posts saying she should be gone and how much I hate her? No, I just simply accept it's a part of the game and just probably won't use her. That and Animal Crossing game hype. *Ahem* You can keep going and making a fool out of yourself, but at this point, I'm not taking anything you say seriously.
