  1. Jacob nodded as Danielle's battle finished, a small smile playing across his lips. He then turned to Claude once more. "You know, I'm glad Danielle won. I mean Kristen is what she is to me and all, but she's been so rude to Danielle that I can't help but feel as though she had it coming. I'm sure she's not taking it well, though." He paused, looking around at the other students for a moment. His eyes lit on Mareek for a moment and he met Erce's glower with a stare of pure and complete shock. "Claude..." he whispered, unable to take his eyes off of the Scyther that had looked at him like he'd killed someone. "I think I really messed up. I know Mareek can take a loss. He's a great Trainer, and great Trainers know that a loss is a learning experience. But he's really upset," he finished, not able to complete his thought out loud. Was it something I said? Was it something I did in the battle? he wondered, feeling terrible about the impact the battle had had on Mareek. He's a classmate and, as much as I'm hesitant to say it out loud, he's one of the people I've learned the most from this semester. He began to feel disgusted with himself, the things he'd said to Mareek playing back in his mind. How could I of all people have implied he doesn't care about his Pokemon? He has close bond with all of them, even that new Cubone. Jacob got up without a word and walked off, lost in thought as he went in the direction he'd seen Kristen storm off in after her battle. I need to make this right somehow. But I just don't know how.
  2. Jacob nodded in approval as he watched Danielle control the pace of the battle. He turned to Claude, pointing at the field. "See how she's able to react to Kristen's moves? That's the mark of a good Coordinator from everything I know. She's able to think on her feet and use what moves she has available to her advantage. In a Contest battle, I'm quite sure she would have taken a few points away from Kristen simply by blocking that move." He then put his hand on his chin. "I thought Kristen would have known better than to save Skrelp for last, though. That thing, believe it or not, would probably have done better against Zared. With high special defense and the ability to leap over Zared's maw using its tail, it would have been able to counter anything that Mawile could throw at it. I have to wonder why she sent in her Marill instead. Showed a real lack of forethought," he said offhandedly as he commentated on the battle.
  3. I'd say that's markedly untrue. PIkachu is shown to only have the Static ability when he battles Volkner's Electivire. I think they embrace the possibility of evolution-driven Ability changing much more than it actually occurs in the games, though.
  4. Jory nodded and rested his head on top of Carissa's, tired from the day's hiking and fighting. "Yeah, I suppose so. I just hope we get to Snowpoint soon. My toes are getting cold." Shredder scoffed at his Trainer and continued loping alongside the group, making sure to keep an eye on the Acolytes.
  5. Jory nodded and wrapped an arm around Carissa, holding her against him. "Yeah, things worked out. But we won't be able to rest easy until we get into the city." And even then, these Acolytes might turn on us the first chance they get. We'll have to be on guard no matter what, he thought to himself as he eyed the Acolytes suspiciously. This was all a bit easy... But for now, he was content to remain warm with Carissa on the walk to Snowpoint City.
  6. Jacob nodded. "Exactly what Claude said. The future is what you make it. So let's forget about that for a bit and watch some of the matches! I know there's one I'm particularly interested in..." he trailed off as he turned and began watching the battle between Danielle and Kristen. Maybe I shouldn't even watch, though. Then one of them's gonna make me pick sides... he thought to himself.
  7. Jacob sat in shock, unable to fully process Ryan's story. "Kage met... a... Celebi?" he asked in wonder, the events hitting him one at a time. Then, once he realized what the rest of what Ryan had said actually meant, he looked horrified. "Ryan, that's..." he said, unable to think of anything helpful. "That's heavy, man. I don't even know what to say to you. All I know is that I'm here for you, bud." He then looked up at Claude, his eyes screaming "help me."
  8. Jacob nodded and followed Claude over to Ryan, sitting next to his friend and putting his arm around his shoulders. "Yeah, man, you really stuck it to him! That attitude of his must've made winning even more satisfying, huh?" He frowned as he saw that Ryan didn't seem to be in a bragging mood. "What's eating at you, buddy? You know Claude and I are here to talk if you need us."
  9. Jacob sighed sheepishly as he overheard Sissy and Robert and Shiro's conversation. Looking to Claude, he decided to remove himself from the situation. "Hey, Ryan looks pretty down over there. You think we should go cheer him up?" he asked his friend, looking toward Danielle and Kristen's battle. I don't know who to cheer for. Danielle is my friend, but things could work out between Kristen and me. I guess I'll just have to hope they tie, otherwise I might find myself torn between the two, he thought to himself. He then returned his attention to Claude, waiting for a response.
  10. Jacob chuckled at the Coordinators' excitement, then turned around as he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to find Spitfyre and Arete looking quite anxious. "Are you guys hungry?" he asked his Pokemon gently. They both nodded enthusiastically and their Trainer got up, walking a bit away from the crowd. He released Chalchi from her ball, finding the Lapras still exhausted from her bout with Mareek. He took an Oran Berry and two Sitrus Berries out of his backpack, then handed the Oran to Arete and a Sitrus to Spitfyre. The two began to eat quickly, Spitfyre's bruises and scratches noticeably fading as he consumed the nutrient-filled fruit. Jacob walked over to Chalchi and lifted the Lapras's head, smiling at her. "You did great, Chalchi. Now eat up." He held the Berry in front of her mouth until she was done eating. The Water-type gave a satisfied cry, then curled up to take a nap. "Alright, Chalchi. I'll let you rest up." He then scooped up his Togepi and walked back over to the others. "What's this I hear about Claude's 'big surprise'? And Claude, I swear if you take off your pants I'm running in the opposite direction."
  11. My magical edits and I have no idea what you're talking about >>
  12. Jacob cheered as Claude managed to take out the Noibat. He then turned to Slade, grinning sheepishly. "Sorry if you felt like I was ignoring you, bud. You just seemed content to sit there quietly so I didn't think anything of it." He began to look around at the other fields, sighing as he saw Ryan walk off the field that he'd battled Henry on. What'd Henry say that's got him all twisted up? If there's one person here I'd want to beat it'd be Henry and his snide attitude. He then turned his attention back to Danielle and Slade. "Hey, you two are the only ones who haven't battled yet, right?" A look of fascination began to spread across his face. "That means you're going to be against each other! Ooooooh, this is gonna be exciting!"
  13. Yeah, I feel like anyone with a combat-based ability is going to be impossible for anyone to take out head-on. Although I'd been thinking about other superhero based storylines (such as DC and Marvel crap) and I've arrived at the conclusion that a lot of the "mutants" or "meta-humans" have one thing in common: the ability to heal faster than regular people. So while most of them don't have Wolverine-style regeneration, they can all survive conflict with one another without totally killing suspension of disbelief because even if they're badly injured they can be back in the fight relatively soon. Just a thought.
  14. Gotta agree with DarkLight here. Keeps the people who are waiting from having to sit out during pre-battle banter.
  15. Jacob was about to sit down when he heard Claude call to him. He looked up and smiled at the Coordinator, happy to see another friend. "Oh, thanks man! I didn't even realize you were watching. And it wasn't just me out there. Chalchi nailed that first bit, although I think I'm getting a little predictable with that Frozen Field," he said thoughtfully. "I'm going to need to draw up some new strategies, or else Mareek is gonna pick me apart if we battle again. Spitfyre, though..." he trailed off, looking toward the group of Pokemon. Arete was getting along with Danielle's Pokemon much better than before, even going so far as to gesture emphatically to the Murkrow while she chattered away. Spitfyre could only grin and close his eyes, shaking his head at the excitable egg. Jacob then blinked a few times and looked back toward Danielle. "Look at that. Got so carried away thinking about my Pokemon that I forgot to sit down," he managed to squeeze out between chuckles. He sat where Danielle had indicated with a heavy sigh of relief. He turned to Danielle, smiling broadly. "I'm excited to watch your battle! Are you gonna dazzle me?" he asked half-seriously, cracking a grin. He then turned back to Claude. "Anyway, Claude, do you remember what I said to you in the forest earlier about Spitfyre?"
  16. Jacob chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "No problem. And whoever you battle is gonna really have to watch out for your team. You have some unusual typings for a rookie trainer, and I get the feeling that's gonna throw a lot of people off." He smiled as he looked over at Spitfyre, who seemed to enjoy the attention he was receiving from Danielle's Pokemon. He looked particularly interested in Corona, having not spoken to another Fire-type since the day of his capture. "Looks like Spitfyre is a bit more sociable than I thought he was," Jacob commented offhandedly. Arete was squirming to get out of his grip, so he let the Togepi down to toddle over and join the conversation. "Look, when you battle you just need to remember one thing: winning isn't something you do 'at any cost.' It takes perseverence and thinking on your feet. You need to keep a cool head. The minute you're caught off-guard, your Pokemon will be too. Don't worry, though! I'll be rooting for you," he said with a smile. I'm glad things are back to the way they were, he thought to himself. It would've really stunk to lose a good friend like Danielle over something as silly as a crush.
  17. Spitfyre actually sees Teo as his rival because he's still sore about losing to Teo when they first met. Additionally, Spitfyre wouldn't see Java as his rival as there's no real interaction between the two outside of that one battle. Spitfyre's driving force in the rivalries he develops is a kind of "power jealousy" in that he'll only see someone as his rival if he loses to them the first time they meet because then he has something to prove to himself. Similar to how Spitfyre joined Jacob to become stronger and not out of any real affection for his to-be-Trainer (although he develops it), he sees a Pokemon who he can become stronger by defeating as a rival.
  18. Jacob nodded to Mareek, returning his "Good match" before rushing onto the field and wrapping his Fire-type in a big Beartic hug. "You did awesome, Spitfyre! Although we really lucked out that Zuko happened to be on the other field, you did great!" Suddenly, Jacob had to shield his eyes as his Charmander began glowing in his arms. Knowing what was coming, the Trainer set Spitfyre on the ground on front of him and watched intently as the glowing white form began to change shape. This is actually happening! Jacob thought excitedly. My first Pokemon evolution! A huge grin was spread across his face as he observed the amazing process. Spitfyre appeared to be growing quite a lot, and on top of his head the telltale ridge of his next form was beginning to show. Finally, the glowing light died down and Jacob looked at his newly evolved Charmeleon. "Char!" Spitfyre said coolly, blowing smoke out his nostrils. He looked up at his Trainer and nodded gratefully. Jacob returned the gesture and beckoned to Spitfyre to follow him off the field toward Danielle. He was smiling like an idiot by the time he reached her and couldn't keep from looking down at Spitfyre. Once they were off the field he bent down and rubbed the flame lizard's head affectionately. "All our training paid off today, Spits. I can't tell you how proud I am of you, especially using Dig like that in a pinch." The Trainer then took Arete's Ball off his belt and released the egg Pokemon. She wandered curiously over to Spitfyre, inspecting him head-to-toe, even going so far as to lift his tail with her stubby arms. She gave a satisfied cry and toddled back over to Jacob, raising her arms to indicate she wanted up. Her Trainer complied, lifting her up and smiling broadly as he walked the short distance to Danielle. "I don't think any victory Spits has had so far compares to besting Java. Mareek is a great Trainer, no doubt about it." He then looked at his friend, who seemed quite nervous. "Danielle, you're going to do great. I know it. You need to have a little more faith in yourself and your partners," he said softly. "BUT HOW FRIGGIN' COOL WAS SPITFYRE EVOLVING?" In response Spitfyre smirked and looked away, proud of himself but not wanting to be a part of his Trainer's overenthusiasm.
  19. Jory gave an inward sigh of relief as the Acolytes complied with Carissa's demands. Good. I really didn't want to have to follow through on that threat, he thought to himself as he watched Adam and Carissa take control of the situation.
  20. Yeah I was just confused as to the whole "seems like he has two abilities" thing, but the way you explained it makes sense.
  21. "Spitfyre, collapse the tunnel before it can get to you!" the Trainer shouted. A muffled grunt along with the sound of cascading dirt could be heard from the other side of the tunnel. Sounds like he took part of that attack. He's a tough one, though. He's not going down that easy. Plus, the harsh sunlight's been drying the field this whole time. "Now, finish him with an aerial Incinerate!" The Charmander quickly tunneled behind the Porygon and burst out of the ground above the level of the Porygon, the harsh sunlight illuminating the various scratches and bruises he'd received from the Tri-Attack. A ball of orange flame began growing in his mouth until he unleashed a wide, powerful gout of flame toward the Porygon. The heat from the attack was palpable even on Jacob's side of the field, his field of vision obscured by the refraction from the stream of fire.
  22. Lux sighed, taking a seat next to the man. "It's a different story when we're in our base of operations. You can never be too careful. You of all people should know that, Anver." He then reached over, extending a hand to the man. "I'm Lux. And it's not that we mistrust you. Again, we just have to be careful these days."
  23. My point was that a Pokemon with Trace/Analytic/Download still takes damage from ground-type moves, which means that to some extent it's still grounded. To not take damage you'd have to have Levitate, so I assumed that to not get wet from the ice melting or to not get hit by the Discharge's field effect you'd also have to have Levitate.
  24. Lux pulled his hand up into a gun position and pointed it at Anver, a deadly serious look on his face. His fingers were sheathed in a corona of light that seemed to be shuddering as though it wanted to escape forward. "We're in his office. You're not leaving this room until you speak with him, so I'd recommend you take a seat and wait it out." He gestured to the chairs in front of the boss's desk, the young man's fingers still glowing. "I don't mean to threaten you, but I'm sure you understand the need for secrecy. And until I get the boss's okay, I can't let you into the rest of the building. So please, as I said earlier, just wait here. He should be back briefly."
  25. Jacob looked a bit confused, then shrugged. "I've never heard of a Pokemon having both the Levitate and whatever ability your Porygon has, but I suppose there's always room for new things." ((as in 'he doesn't have Levitate so how did that not affect him')). "Spitfyre, you've been watching Teo for two days and practicing with him. Time to take a page out of his book! Use Dig, and get far down so the moisture doesn't hurt you!" The Charmander nodded and got underground, insulating himself from the electrical effect. He burrowed across the field underneath the Porygon. Then, in Spanish, the Trainer ordered, "Now, Dragon Rage it from beneath!" The Charmander opened up a hole underneath the Porygon and fired a powerful blue firebolt directly upward, hoping to score a hit on the Porygon.
