Gyaradoskiller Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 Every four years there is the FIFA World Cup. A worldwide football (soccer in the USA) tournament in which countries all over the world compete it. And this year it is in Brazil. So let's discuss about the event then! Quote
Veterans Azeria Posted June 7, 2014 Veterans Posted June 7, 2014 #Netherlands sure A certain few would Agree Quote
Guest Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 U'kno, i live in Brazil, and i think that was an awful idea, the country is has shitty government economy, and we aren't ready to host an event this big, it'll also be in MY town too! and NOTHING is ready and/or on schedule around here, considering brazil's history, i'm predicting some sort of mess is going to happen... Quote
Notus Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 ^ Agreed with Telos, I don't think the Cup was a good idea for the country right now (Holy crap, only to imagine São Paulo's traffic in a game day makes me shiver). One thing that I'm not sure everyone noticed is that here in Brazil, this Cup has a tremendous political value. I think it's safe to say that the results of this year's elections depend on whether it works or not and even if we win it or not. So, there's a lot in play there. Well, right now we can just watch from the sidelines and pray for a good show, but I would not be surprised if things started going wrong, Quote

Mexico had to host the Olympics, and a massacre happened. Just remember that. Quote

Guest Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Despite everything, the Brazil idea was bad, as is the Qatar idea. Russia seems alright. But.. I mean for teams. Most people would back Brazil or Argentina, as I would usually, however, Brazil looked rather unconvincing in their recent friendly, in the 1-0 victory (where Fred scored the only goal), so I really really doubt Brazil right now.. Especially with the local upset and whatnot.. Maybe Germany.. but there's a big blow without Reus, despite having an array of midfielders etc to choose from such as Schurrle and Podolski. France were never contenders for me. Spain and Netherlands are there, I don't back Netherlands, because really, I haven't been particularly impressed with their form, I mean wins yes, but against an understrength Wales, the margin should be more than what it was. But.. if I were to be honest, I'd say Brazil for a South American pick. If it's European I'd say Germany. Dark horse Belgium. And if an Asian team gets lucky enough, Japan. Quote
Khayoz Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I'm curious to see how well Ghana will do this time. Will they replicate their run in 2010 or will they fail horribly just like Cameroon all those years ago? Quote
Guest Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Doubt Ghana would make it past their group stage. Their group consists of the USA, Germany, Portugal and themselves. A group with Portugal and Germany are tough, obviously. I wouldn't even write off the USA at all, since they have a decent national side I would almost gamble on to qualify. So, no, I doubt Ghana can replicate the feat of 4 years ago. Quote

Belgium <3 The hype is crazy right now. And yes, Qatar was the worst idea ever. It's not even a football nation and it gets way too hot to play any games in the summer. Personally I think Spain or Brazil is going to win. They can basically put 2 different teams on the field. Germany usually goes far on tournaments. Uruguay is also a dark horse. Decent team and they got Suarez, Cavani and Forlan as attackers. Quote
Gyaradoskiller Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 Can Mexico move past the group stage? I mean, Brazil, Croatia, and Cameroon are in the same group. Quote
Khayoz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Uruguay are solid, I expect them to make it to the semis at least again. Quote
Notus Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 ^ It would be funny to see a repetition of the "Maracanazo" of 1950. I can but imagine everyone's faces. Quote
Yash Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 I have to support Argentina.. Like i've been doing since 1998.. .. But seriously.. This year is one of the best chances for them.. An easy group stage should have them finishing on the top.. Round of 16 has them facing no 2 from group E, another easy group france being top contenders, thus ecuador, swiss and honduras as the likely opponents making another possibly easy match.. the quarters are where it gets a competition for them with chances of meeting GER, POR, USA, RUS being the highest.. The most dangerous of these would be GER and POR, but considering its the quarters its acceptable.. all in all chances for argentina are good.. plus they will be having a lot of support from fans.. so it should almost be like home games for them.. It would be brilliant if brazil and argentina are in the finals.. that will definetely be an epic match!! Quote
Notus Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 ^ Kkk I think if Argentina wins the cup here we will have a civil war XD. But yeah it would be very nice to have a game like that in the finals. Sooo What you guys think of the opening game? Quote

Veterans Azeria Posted June 13, 2014 Veterans Posted June 13, 2014 Yup Spain Got messed up By the Netherlands my birth country Yh Quote
Notus Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 And now that Chile won with two goals of diference, Spain's life is worse than ever. Correct me if I'm wrong, but either they have to completely wreck someone or they cannot lose any more games, right? Quote
