Feareth
Was about to make a topic about who to choose I have never played X nor Y as i do not have a 3DS. Wanted to start a new game.
Naphiro
Chespin seems to be great when it comes to being defensive yet dealing heavy damage. I haven't tried the others myself, but it seems Froakie specializes in special attack and speed. Funneki also specializes in special attack. Bearadactyl
I went with Froakie. I always pick the water starters, and Greninja fills a spot in my party that I seldom have filled in the first place. I have a lot of tanky and stall types usually, with my taste being Posion Type. Not only that, but having a Dark/Water pokémon is a boon. Greninja can dish out a hell of a lot of damage, and you will seldom encounter something faster. Gyaradoskiller
I chose Chespin. He was cute, and I loved Chesnaught.
Vinny
I chose Chespin. Apparently, i'm always choosing the bulkier starter, for no reason...
Tempest
I just stick to my Empoleon, Blaziken, or Sceptile. To be honest, I really don't like the 6th Gen starters. But if I had to pick, I'd get a Greninja.
Skullkin
Fenniken. Have no regrets, Even though Protean froakie is badass.

Nova
I picked Chespin in my Reborn playthrough, but i don't have a DS (anymore) for the official Pokémon games
Gaunt
Froakie, usually i go with the fire starter but the 6 gen one is just ugly (like the 5 one) so yeah the ninja frog. Edited February 20, 2014 by Gaunt
EternalJinn
I went with chespin in y and froakie in x, greninja has ninja swag but chesnaught is a mega tank so I took both
Kalina
I've chosen the Water starters for a VERY long time, so I went with Froakie. But because my first ever Pokemon was a Bulbasaur, I then chose Bulbasaur at Sycamore's lab =) Then having the Torchic rounded off the types perfectly
Naphiro
I'm really enjoying Chespin. Just sweeped Fern's team with just bite alone.
natesuck94
Whatever you do don't pick a water starter because you won't win against Zel Only if you train all pokemon till level 35 Edited February 20, 2014 by natesuck94
Slicster
Froakie.
natesuck94
Unfortunately protean doesn't work so froakie is not that good
Omega_Ra1der
chespin and froakie in y first playthroughs in x and y but I seem to prefer the grass types because mostly they are jack of trades of pokemon Edited February 20, 2014 by OmegaRa1der
Amphouse
I plan to pick Froakie in anticipation that Protean will be fixed in v.11. Because Protean is an awesome ability from what I can tell(never actually played with it before).
Vinny
Because Protean is an awesome ability from what I can tell(never actually played with it before). Protean is amazing. In fact, Protean is the "reason" why people use Greninja in higher tiers... EDIT: Greninja Speed and Sp.Atk "helps", but Protean makes him a lot better... Bearadactyl
Whatever you do don't pick a water starter because you won't win against Zel Only if you train all pokemon till level 35 Speak for yourself. I always choose Totodile. The rest of my team is more than balanced enough to handle him/her/it.

Remember that Greninja is highly capable of going physical too as shown by this Greninja sweep
