Administrators Amethyst Posted February 6, 2011 Administrators Share Posted February 6, 2011 Stallitoed Politoed (F) @ Leftovers Trait: Drizzle EVs: 252 HP / 140 Def / 116 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Boil Over - Perish Song - Protect - Toxic/Hypnosis/Encore Despite the name, this set is not meant to stall anything out by itself, but instead take hits like a boss as it switches in and out in a weather war. Boil Over is preferred, given the chance of burning, weakening a physical attacker's advantage over Politoed's lower defense. Perish Song is an evil way to end an opponent's final Pokemon if it happens to be a staller that's giving you trouble- or to force out a set up. The fourth move is up to preference. Hypnosis' mild accuracy should be off-putting though, while a well-predicted Encore can get a jump on early set up (Cloyster, anyone?) or set-up leads. However, Toxic is preferred as rotect exists to afford you an extra turn of leftovers while still letting the poison (or burn or perish song) take its toll- it also will let you completely evade a Ninetales' Solar Beam the turn after you switch into it. A Belly Drum Set, however, will turn it into a sucide lead- which if you won't need it again is great. But that means you should not expect this to win any weather-wars. For this reason it tends to work well against unsuspecting and enemy rain teams, but other weather teams will walk all over you if it goes down. Sub on the first turn, hope they didn't attack- most enemy Politoed like to try a toxic, hypnosis (which, with your maxed speed, your sub should basically always block) or will run away. In any of those cases, you're golden. Drum on the second turn- your Salac will activate bringing you to 393 speed. Unfortunately, this means a max-speed Jolteon can still have its way with you (Hidden Power type depending!) but the risk is usually worth it. Earthquake and Waterfall makes an excellent attacking combo resisted only by grass types and a few dragons, in which case your rain boosted +6 waterfall does have a chance of flinch for you to continue on your merry way even if it doesn't OHKO. You've got Toxic if you want to drain away your opponent's HP, HP Grass to fend off other Water types and Swampert/Quagsire. Surf deals more damage and Scald has a 30% chance of burning your opponent. Ice Beam is for taking out Dragon types. Geo Posted February 7, 2011 Share Posted February 7, 2011 Notice how all of you forgot to /Water Absorb in all the sets, there are some places that don't allow weather and some people use Normal Toad just to keep from being Typical or common like everyone else. you can't expect everyone to love Drizzle. same with drought. Base 120 power focus blast either OHKOs or puts a severe dent in Tyranitar, and Ice Beam hits dragons hard. This politoed even works as an Excadrill counter, as it always lives an unboosted EQ even with Steal Rock damage and revenge kill with Scald. [b]Surf[/b] is the main STAB, and not Hydro Pump because it's reliable. [b]Hypnosis[/b] will give you some options or force a switch. [b]Ice Beam[/b] is a coverage move. The main reason for this set is to score some surprise kills on Politoed's usual counters. Now you may be thinking.. " why not just run a regular specs or scarf set and do the same thing via prediction?" Simple, more experienced players are going to be conservative with their checks. In other words, they will more than likely be able to switch into appropriate pokes predicting what move you lock yourself into. This is where ChestoRest comes into play, I mean, it's kind of like an expert belt set when you think about it. You go for the appropriate move, they switch in their check, you switch out to see what type of set they're running and then depending on your Politoed set, there are numerous ways in which you can eliminate them next time they switch in. For example, if they think you're locked into Hydro Pump and bring in a Gastrodon. Chances are they won't want to switch if they have nabbed a Storm Drain boost. This is where you surprise them with the HP Grass and score some nice damage or a kill depending on how much health they have. Now as for ChestoRest, I personally think it works better with a max HP set but any form of recovery is always appreciated on any poke(especially when it's a weather inducer that needs to be alive for most of the battle). Perish Song is viable for the obvious reasons, but you will probably find either Hidden Power to be more useful on this set. Politoed (M) @ Choice Band Trait: Drizzle / Water Absorb EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Waterfall - Ice Punch - Earthquake - Return / Brick Break / Sleep Talk So today I was staring blankly at the computer with a friend yapping in my ear about Bioshock and how messed up the game apparently was. Eventually, the conversation rant turned to karate frogs. I don't remember how he got there, but that's besides the point. It got me thinking. Karate frog...well at first I thought Toxicroak. Then Poliwrath...then Politoed. Yes, it got that far. Physical Politoed: Mostly for surprise value, but man, does it surprise. A Choice Band makes its Attack go over 400, which means Waterfall hits nicely hard. Ice Punch is some follow up coverage; although it's nowhere near Waterfall in power on Politoed, it still OHKO's many birds including the feared Tornadus-T after Stealth Rocks. Steels can be a pain in the ass, so Politoed has a bunch of options for them; namely Earthquake. If you're fortunate enough to catch something like Raikou asleep at the wheel then you can OHKO them, along with Steels and other Pokemon that threaten to pop your balloon of joy that comes with using CB Politoed. You have numerous options for the last set. Return is an all-around solid attack that's reliable and your best option on things like Gastrodon. Brick Break makes a statement against Tyranitar, telling that son of a b**ch to stop switching in on your damn rainfall. Sleep Talk is a good option in case Amoonguss got the better of you. Get some Stealth Rock support and you'll be good to go. Seriously, do it. It turns 2HKOs into OHKOs. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
