If this was any commercial release game, and a weapon or item was deemed too powerful, would it not be removed or nerfed? Nerfing the pokémon would make the game untrue to the reality of the franchise, so we're left with that one alternative. Quote

Or does this only apply to Pokémon that have been caught after a certain date? Quote
