  1. Showed him http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1867&hl=moody&fromsearch=1 with Control+F on Moody. Don't see how the meaning of that post could possibly have been misconstrued. For whatever reason, if he didn't comprehend it, there's still no justification for going to the lengths he did.
  2. Yes, I'm sincerely appreciative of the thought you're putting into tournament adjustments. That portion of my post was addressed to others. As for the rogue mod, I'll provide more context. I had just won beaten an Ubers team with a NU team. On my NU team was an Octillery with Moody and a Clefairy with Minimize. After the battle, my opponent stated in the main chat that Moody and Evasion are banned, those who use them have no skill. I responded with, "No, moody isn't banned, and if you think otherwise, show me where it says so." Obviously he couldn't, but another player intervened at this point and said that I still shouldn't include Moody and Evasion on my teams because it "takes the fun of battling" as well as being "unethical". The hell? I responded that if he wants to hold himself to invisible standards, fine, but he has no business restricting others to the same guidelines. I posted http://www.pokemonreborn.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1867&hl=moody&fromsearch=1 in the main chat and told him to do a Control+F on "Moody". That would have been the end of it, except Kiozo told the chat that "although no such rule exists, it's still something that you're just not supposed to do." Multiple other players began spamming ^, referring to Kiozo's message. I asked Kiozo to show me where it says we're not supposed to use Moody, and he responded by telling me to respect authority. Um, no. There is no such thing as someone above criticism, especially when all the evidence is against you. All other points made by Kiozo were ad hominem attacks, the last resort of one cornered by logic. If you use Moody, it reflects badly on your character; you're arrogant, selfish, and in lack of discipline. This is how much we love our tiers. Sure I forgive, but I never forget.
  3. Answers to common rebuttals below: 1. Reborn is a community server, not a laddering/tournament server! Let's prove it. If Reborn is a community server with greater camaraderie between players than Smogon and PO, then there shouldn't be complete silence after someone wins a tournament. Your assertions don't match with observed behavior. 2. Both timed and quota based tournaments have their pros and cons. Yeah of course. My argument is that the net benefits of quota based tournaments outweigh time based tournaments. By refusing to test quota based tournaments, we are throwing these benefits away. 3. Reborn tiers are different and we're proud of this! I cannot believe someone actually has the audacity to bring this up. Can any of you explain why A REBORN MOD was telling players in the main chat to follow PO and Smogon tiers? He didn't stop there, but decided to go one step further in the opposite direction by condemning players who used Abilities/Moves/Pokemon allowed by Reborn but not by other servers. In his own words, although not technically against the rules "it's something you're just not supposed to do." This belief wasn't isolated to this one mod either. Other players jumped to support him on the sole basis that he was a mod, telling those who disagreed to "shut up or be kicked." So Reborners are proud of their tiers? Yeah. Fucking. Right. Unrelated to any of the previous points, I'd like to point out nobody has stated how implementing these changes will make Reborn less of a community. Congratulating players after a tournament win and battling in new tiers will only serve to increase the cohesion between our members.
  4. Beast of a monoice team. I'm totally in love with the double team on your Walrein - that's so clever...so clever. You really need to watch out for stealth rock, but other than that, this team would be a top contender in the BL tier.
  5. Glad to have you with us Ben
  6. Theme isn't that important. We can get to all of them - just begin.
  7. Iostone, how will implementing these features make Reborn less of a community? If anything they'll serve to increase the cohesion between players.
  8. Spirit. This is what separates us from the premier servers. There is no excitement, no drive, no oomph here on Reborn. Let me provide a few comparisons using tournaments. Reborn: -Time based tournaments signups constantly leading to small tournament sizes and players complaining they missed out -What you hear when you win a Reborn tournament: -No record of tournament wins -Overused tournament, overused tournament, overused tournament, overused tournament, overused tournament, overused tournament. PO: -Quota based tournaments. The bracket isn't posted until the designated slots have been filled. Leads to larger, more exciting tournaments while remaining adjustable in size. -What you hear when you win a PO tournament: "Congrats!" "Nice job!" ""Way to go!" "Gratz MARIK!" from dozens of people -You can check all the tournaments a player has won in the past 30 days by using the command /tourrankings [playername]. -Little cup tournament, Gen 4 OU tournament, Rarelyused tournament, Wifi Ubers tournament, Monotype tournament, Monocolor tournament, Metronome tournament There are literally hundreds of other examples, ranging from Mafia to Trivia and everything in between. These I won't even mention. Why? Because Reborn doesn't need all of this to be amazing. Small things will keep Reborn lively. Someone wins a tournament - congratulate them. Someone asks for a battle - battle them. Someone asks for a LU tournament - support them. Right now, Reborn's spirit is deader than Kim Jong il. With your cooperation, we can bring it back.
  9. My debate partner back in high school is currently enrolled at Harvard, and while I thought her clever, it wasn't at the level of genius. In many ways, your transcript better reflects your level of commitment rather than a gift of higher intellect.
  10. Can't believe this one isn't here: Choice Scarf Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Drizzle EVs: 252 Speed / 252 SpA Timid Nature (+Speed, -Atk) - Scald - Focus Blast/Hypnosis - Ice Beam - Hydro Pump A very offensive build, hydro pump and scald get two 1.5x boosts from STAB and rain. Base 120 power focus blast either OHKOs or puts a severe dent in Tyranitar, and Ice Beam hits dragons hard. This politoed even works as an Excadrill counter, as it always lives an unboosted EQ even with Steal Rock damage and revenge kill with Scald.
  11. Batl Skard Posted Today, 07:51 PM "Also; while the odds of you winning every battle are short to none, you do have the means to win every battle. I'll leave you to study and find it for yourself, because experience is the best way to learn. Good luck." No, trainers do not have the means to win every battle. The best way to expose the fallacy of your statement is through logic. If Player A and Player B are in a battle and both make the best moves possible, one of them will win and the other will lose. Suppose Player A wins and Player B loses. Under your reasoning, Player B was supposed to have the means of winning every battle. How could he have won this one? He already made the best moves possible. There is nothing else he could have done to win this match. You see, when both players perform optimally, something still has to give. For every winner, there is always a loser.

  14. Bahaha, that clefairy & machamp one totally made my day
  15. I'm going to Richu a cheque
  16. Here's what one Harvard student had to say after encountering Clefairy for the first time: "I started another game, and I lost even quicker. To add insult to injust, this time I fell victim to a Clefairy, one of the pinkest, most cuddly, most harmless looking Pokemon." (Retrieved from http://www.thecrimso...gon_university/) Sorry Ms. Veritas, but you were probably battling me. Nobody expects a Clefairy sweep. Sweeper (Clefairy) (F) @ Eviolite Trait: Magic Guard EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk) - Cosmic Power - Softboiled - Minimize - Stored Power Clefairy always comes in at full healthy, regardless of what hazards your opponent has up, thanks to Magic Guard. It allows gives Clefairy immunity to burns and poisons. With eviolite, Clefairy hits 376 SpD with 344 HP. With 1 cosmic power, she reaches 298 Def and 564 Special Def. Not only that, but Clefairy is one the few Pokemon blessed with Minimize, raising its evasion by +2. If your opponent finally lands a hit, it will do almost nothing, or take another 5 turns before he's able to land another. Softboiled shrugs that damage off. With only one weakness it is SO easy to set up. Once you've maxed out, hit them with a base 380 Stored Power. Practically invincible in NU due to the lack of phazers/darks, I've experimented Baton Passing quiver dances to it from Masquerain to raise its Speed and Special Attack. Insanely fun. With a Special Attack of 468, Clefairy kamehamehas a base 620 Stored Power, annihilating anything without a psychic immunity.
  17. Amethyst > Acid Trip This is the first time I've ever heard of "zalgo characters", and I was definitely unaware that some computers had immunity while others were vulnerable. For this player to fearlessly ladder at a time when DC attacks were rampant is very unusual. How does he know his computer has the immunity? If he ever did disconnect during a ranked battle, his rating would plummet ~30 points (takes about 10 wins in a row to recover from). It could be a coincidence. I'll keep an open mind. Should I DC against the same player again though, I'll be much less convinced.

    Haunter

I used the same set (with the exception of sash over scarf) for my NU revenge killer. Works very well in conjunction with Wish Audino.
  19. Is there a search function so that we can see whether a thread has been made for a particular pokemon?
  20. That's completely true. No matter how carefully you build your team, no matter how well you read your opponent's next move, there will always be battles that you simply cannot win. This is why I'm convinced this player rose from below 1300 to above 1500 (in 3 hours!) through illegitimate means. Btw, I have every monotype team and they're totally fun. Send me a message if you ever want to monotype.
  21. When the PBC first came back up ~4 months ago, I was laddering there. The reason I now choose Reborn over PBC is because the mod Acid Trip (who was ranked #1 in Wifi OU at the time) kicked and banned me right before I was about to beat him in a ranked battle. I will never return to that disgrace of a server. It's incredible how one individual can so badly tarnish the reputation of a community.
  22. "Discuss the ever-evolving vortex of strategy inherent in the meta-game here." Someone has just taken a old strategy to new extremes. Read on to see how you can effortlessly achieve a 1600 rating. As of the time of this post, the top rated Reborn battler has an OU rating of 1534. If you've held a rating of 1400 or higher, you'd know that when you reach that threshold, most rated battles have +2, -30 variations, or even +1, -31 variations. This means that should you win the battle, your rating will increase by 1 point. If you lose the battle, your rating will drop by 31 points. You can imagine how difficult it is to ladder once your rating becomes high. Not only will you mostly battle other talented trainers, but your win/loss ratio needs to be at least 15:1 just to break even. You're placed in battles you cannot win no matter how flawlessly you play, whether it's a bad team matchup, a series of important crits by your opponent, or a string of misses by your pokemon. This is why laddering at the top is so difficult. NOT. You see, earlier today I was on a new account (~1050 rating), testing out a team I had just made, when I was placed in a +82, -8 variation battle. My opponent at the time had a rating of 1284. Oh, it was a good battle, and he was clearly very skilled. Yet the battle got to a point where I was in a no-lose scenario. Then, for the first time in 2 months, I was disconnected from the server. Oh well, it was a new account, and ratings didn't matter much on it. I logged back on, tested the team out against several other players in ranked matches, and became convinced that it was a solid team. I transferred the team to my main account and logged out to work on a class assignment. A few hours later, I logged back on and began laddering with my new team on my main account. The instant I clicked "Find Battle", I was matched against the player I disconnected against earlier. Something was unusual though. This was a +17, -15 variation match, instead of the standard +2, -30 I'm used to. In the span of 3 hours, the player had gone from a rating of 1284 to over 1500. I couldn't believe my eyes. He was good, but no better than several other talented players I've battled on Reborn. Unfortunately for this player, I knew his entire team, having fought it earlier on a different account. He, on the other hand, had no idea that account was mine. This battle was not even close. On the verge of 4-0'ing him, a player joined the battle, spammed a wall of text, and I was disconnected for the second time in 2 months. If you're not convinced this player is related to the disconnects, answer me this: 1. We were both in the same battle. Why was he not affected? 2. These incidents took place during a time where all ongoing battles were being attacked by a spam disconnector. Tournaments rounds were being disrupted, moderators were advising players to turn spectators off, and to not do ranked battles. With a rating above 1500, he would be losing 30 ratings every time his battles were targetted. Yet he continued to ladder non-stop. So, the secret to breaking a 1600 rating? Have a friend disconnect your opponents! If you're a good battler, you'll never be caught because you'll only have to resort to this when you're just about to lose. Keep Reborn pristine. Do not tolerate those who DC for ranks.
  23. It's a good team, but depends too much on the weather. It might be better if you replaced some of your pokemon with ones that can function well independent of weather. Also, swap cross chop on Magmortar with overheat or a similar special move. His nature lowers his attack, and his SpA is much higher anyway.
  24. You're a very talented battler, keep it up
  25. In case you missed it, earlier this year The Crimson (Harvard's campus newspaper) published an article on competitive Pokemon battling. Titled "Welcome to Smogon University", it describes how one self-confessed beginner pulled an all-nighter building what she believed to be the perfect team after being introduced to PO by her roomate. My reaction? Ah, so this is what our brightest minds are doing! In all seriousness, I was rather pleased that Pokemon had evolved (ha-ha) from being a game solely for children to one that targets older audiences as well. What are you thoughts? You can read the full article here: http://www.thecrimson.com/column/getting-geek-speak/article/2012/2/14/welcome_to_smogon_university/
