  1. As far as I can tell, the game did away with giving the MC a gender designation in one of the previous Versions, and consequently yours went to the default when that aspect of the game was lost.

This shouldn't have affected the sprites, though- those are expressly labeled in the files and are supposed to follow those labels, so you're supposed to have the pink-haired backsprites still. I did check the files as far back as I can (I seem to have deleted or overwritten my V9 at some point, so I used V10 instead), and the labels for the sprite line between those two...

Unfortunately, I can't help in a more tangible manner, but hopefully my insight be helpful for someone who can?

As i recall, Neved mentioned something about an energy that is released when humans die? So far, the logic of Team Xen's plan is never explained.

It's not too unreasonable an idea, for what that's worth. We know pokemons' lifeforce can be harnessed thanks to both OrAs' Project Azoth and the Garufa's tendency to sacrifice them as part of their powerful rituals, and we aren't really all that different from them if we're to take Sinnoh's mythos at face value (which would be reasonable, considering how much of it we've seen in action directly).

Similarly, we also know that negative emotions, the other thing Team Xen was trying to gather at Blacksteeple IIRC, can have an impact the energy of the world thanks to both Gates To Infinity and Super Mystery Dungeon, the latter of which is a known inspiration and resource for Rejuvenation.

So as far as I'm concerned, the question is less "how?" and more "why?".

In all seriousness, I did enjoy last year's Revel, so I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully IRL shenanigans won't bar me from attending~!

  6. This could be a bit tricky to properly pull off, due to the fact that such a mod would require two different computers communicating with each other to even function. That's not even accounting for the fact that unlike thge Let's GO! games, Reborn and co. are already chalk full of Double Battles, many of which already have an allied NPC taking up the slot that the second player otherwise would've. And since there doesn't seem to be any code for Triple Battles, well... Let's just say the coding's gonna be a lot more complicated than the idea sounds on paper. 😓

  7. Uuuh, this certainly a tough question to narrow down answers for. I'm just gonna list three 'mons in no particular order for each Gen., counting Megas as the base pokemon's Generation (if I vastly prefer it to the base stage) and Regional variants as "new" pokemon in their Gen. (so Alolan Exeggutor would be counted as Gen. 7). I'm also not counting Legendaries, 'cause they'll easily eat up to a third of the list on their own, and nobody's here to see me be basic. Without further ado, let's get on to the list~

    Kanto: Ivysaur, Mega Pinsir, Alakazam

Johto: Crobat, Espeon, Houndoom (No wonder most of my Crystal team were Gen. 1 'mons... 😓)

    Hoenn: Swampert, Aggron, Cradily

    Sinnoh: Magmortar, Drapion, Probopass

    Unova: Cinccino, Gigalith, Eelektross

    Kalos: Delphox, Slurpuff, Malamar

    Alola: A. Muk, Dhelmise, Araquanid

    Galar: Dracovish, Cursola, Orbeetle

I, uh, feel like I'm a bit all over the place here. Whoops?

  8. I've played up to the entryway for Motostoke City (haven't actually entered the town yet), but I've been enjoying myself so far. The Max Raid Battles are actually pretty entertaining even with the crummy NPC allies (my friend doesn't have Nintendo Online, R.I.P.), but I'm not sure how well they'll hold up in higher star ratings. But even at just 1 star, these things can really feel like proper boss fights:

    Spoiler

    >Unlike when you Dynamax your pokemon, they have access to both their normal moveset and the respective Max Move versions (the ralts I struggled with packed Psybeam, Draining Kiss, Disarming Voice, Hypnosis, Max-Starfall (100 BP), Max-Starfall (90 BP), Max Guard (I've yet to see a Raid actually use this one, BTW), and Max-Mindstorm (120 BP))

    >The Raids can occasionally attack twice in a single round (it seems to be a combination of a Max-Move and a normal one when it happens, though)

    >In addition to their attack options, the Raid can use a turn to reset the stat changes of all pokemon on the field, ala Haze (I had really hoped the Defense drops would stick on the duskull Raid, but alas, it had other plans)

    >All the Raids I've dons so far have had the same lose conditions: either have the battle take 10 rounds, or lose a total of 4 pokemon over the course of the fight (whenever a pokemon is downed, they respawn two rounds later, meaning the same magikarp could potentially represent all 4 deaths)

    >While they're HP may be inflated even by Dynamax standards, their other stats still hold true (the ralts I mentioned OHKOed my Dynamaxed grookey with Max-Mindstorm before I got the chance to do anything, apparently due to being 9 levels higher than me; the AI trainer with the dhelmise hard carried me for that one 😅)

They're some tough cookies, but seeing as they all drop some nice rewards on defeat (even if you fail to catch them), it's definitely worth the effort. I wouldn't have guessed that I'd have the ability to teach things attacks like Drill Run and Psychic to my pokemon well before the first Gym, yet here I am~!

Oh, and whoever decided to give rookidee access to both Power Trip and Power Trip naturally by the time it even gets to Lv. 8 should probably rethink their sense of balance. The thing just deleted Hop 2 from existence!

are the boosts given by these crests permanent? what will happen if i use haze on any of these like the boosts to the stats? will they be reverted?

The Crests are essentially like weaker Mega Stones, which means that the opponent cannot interact with them in any way. They can't be Knocked off or stolen with Thief, and since their bonuses aren't in stats stages, Haze, Clear Smog, and Freezy Frost won't get rid of them.

Edit: It would seem that I've been accelgor'd. Whoops.

  10. Spoiler

Hm, as limited as toxel's movepool is, it does have enough to make work in the first Gym if need be. A kit like Nuzzle/Power-Up Punch/Flail/Venam's Kiss with a Telluric Seed and Rattled might be able to actually do some work for that early in the game, but it'll be pretty far from her best pokemon on the team- mechanically, there's little reason to trade out stuff like her mareanie or grimer for it. It has to boost to make its Physical attacks worth mentioning, and its Special kit is even worse...

I do agree that this beast should be on her team for every other battle against her, though- it is too thematically fitting. I could see her nabbing a Low-Key one and naming it after her idol, to be honest.

  11. Spoiler

Rillaboom's gonna stay, no problem. The other Types had top-end starters from the get-go while Grass was left wallowing in the dust (I don't think serperior quite holds up well to the likes of greninja and blaziken), and while the Crests have gone a long way to help out a couple of them, they're also really far in the game. Dealing with the non-starter specimens is as simple as just delaying its accessability to the late game for the people who didn't choose it in Jenner's Lab, no tweaking needed. The bigger problem starter-wise is honestly scorbunny, as it gives Fire access to the fun that used to be Water's domain alongside a signature move that can be best summed up as "Flare Blitz without many of the drawbacks of using Flare Blitz"- and frankly, I don't see that going anywhere either.

As for non-start powerhouses, one has to remember that the balance of Rejuvenation (outside of the pokes obtained from Jenner's Lab) comes very heavily from where the pokemon is found. Galarian darmanitan frankly isn't going to be unbalancing anything if they wait to put in the second area that it'd make sense in rather than the first- Neverwinter is going to be far more on par with its power level than the Tower of Theolia would be. What I want to know about this one is actually whether or not they'll let it use the Darmanitan Crest- I find G!Darmanitan's Zen Mode to be a hilarious design, personally, and don't really want to deal with the snowball afro to get to it.

There's honestly no need to remove the moves that GameFreak did, I feel- we have our own metagame that's already drastically different from SwSh's, so we don't need to follow their decisions to a T. Just as Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves will hang around, so to will the likes of Return and Hidden Power.

  12. >Translating Gigantamax 'mons as alternate Megas

    Spoiler

Oh, this seems like a neat take. Reduce the BST bonus to something like +75 instead of +100, and give 'em access to their unique attack (though maybe set it to only be usable once, ala Necrozma's Ultra Burst?), and you'll be set. Sure, that does mean that GMax!charizard will still be able to set up the Volcanic Field, but seeing as Mega Zard Y can already set up sun and would have higher stats as it is, I think it'll be a little bit of a fair competition between the two of those.

GMax!Butterfree, on the other hand, still high-key loses here. Whoops.

G!MaxLapras will be handy for those who want to be able to use Aurora Veil without wanting to risk the chip damage from Hail or going full Mono-Ice. It's at least a noteworthy niche compared to the "generically solid" it currently has.

G!Max Gengar hardly seems worth using over Mega Gengar, at least for the time being. It'd be a bulkier build for sure, but seeming as it has to nail the opponent with an attack to trap them while Mega Gengar needs only to exist, I think the odds are stacked against it. Might be a useful substitute if it becomes available before the Gengarite does, but I'd probably be jumping ship once that happens- for both mechanical and aesthetic reasons!

G!Max Alcremie seems like it'd be a slightly better cleric/Doubles support than Mega Audino, especially if G-Max Finale winds up being multi-use. Being able to heal up the entire team at once is pretty big, and being able to Decorate allies in Double Battles when that's not needed (or usable) anymore is a big boon on its own. Also packing Helping Hand (via TM) and Misty Terrain (via Level Up) means it'll have other ways to be useful as well, though only having access to Mystical Fire to deal with enemy Steel Types may be an issue. Really, though, this creamy fella might be plenty useful in Rejuv. even without the Gigantamax Phenomenon, especially with its hearty 121 base Sp. Defense.

Speaking of support 'mons, G!Max Appletun's G-Max Sweetness seems like it'd be handy for clearing out Poisoning if you've been cycling your team through Toxic Spikes or something. I see this one being more useful without using up the Mega slot, though- the sacrificed attack would almost certainly be the awesome Apple Acid (an 80 BP attack that lowers survivors' Sp. Def by two stages? Sign me right up!), which doesn't seem like a worthwhile trade for "my secondary effect might be useful someday" to me. Appletun does at least have access to both Recover and Leech Seed, and if Gigantamaxing does improve its already-solid 110/80/80 bulk even further still, then maybe a purely defensive set might be viable? I dunno, looks like some serious opportunity cost to me.

Now that I'm looking into it, orbeetle doesn't really seem to have a whole lot it can take advantage of G-Max Gravitas with. Hypnosis, Supersonic, Hyper Beam, and Giga Impact don't exactly make up the most impressive list in the world. And with 6 Weaknesses undermining its otherwise solid bulk, well... I don't see this one really catching on when Mono-Psychic has access to mega Alakazam and Mega Gardevoir, and Mono-Bug has access to Mega Heracross and Mega Pinsir. A bit of a shame, seeing as I've been warming up to its design...

G!Max Copperajah would benefit more from this take if the G-Max Moves are multi-use, since one layer of Spikes isn't anywhere as useful as three of them, even if it does get Whirlwind as an Egg Move. Aside from that, the elephant is a really tanky 'mon by default, and a solid user of Heavy Slam even before Gigantamaxing (it's a decent 1,433 lbs, or 650 kg), though the lack of Status-inducing moves may hinder its viability a tad.

G!Max dreadnaw gets a move that is literally Stealth Rock+ heavy Water Damage. Unless you're dealing with Saki, or some other Type Specialist who resists Rock and isn't weak to Water, I don't see a situation where this wouldn't be useful- and even then, it's debatable. There's a reason why this one was one of the first officially revealed!

I didn't cover all of them (let's be honest here, who's really gonna be attempting to run a certain Mystery Gift 'mon when we finally get access to the Mega Z-Ring?), but I think I got the ones I feel are the most worth examining through this situational lens. This is all speculation, mind, since we don't really know how the Rejuv. team's gonna handle this at all, but maybe some of my rambling will be useful anyway? 🤔

  13. Uh, not exactly. The final Episode is currently being worked on, so a little bit of patience will be needed for the time being. In the mean time, why not try out any sidequests you haven't done yet? There's a nice reward available if you manage to capture every pokemon currently available in the game~

Not a gen 8 pokemon, but Blastoise gets Shell Smash in gen 8.

If this change is carried over to Rejuvenation, imagine it.

    Shell Smash Mega Blastoise.

    Spoiler

As if the Novae sister (I think it was Neptune?) in the trench needed any more buffs...

On a different note, Baton pass being more widespread could be notable. If it somehow becomes available in time for swoobat to have not fallen off yet, the tossing Simple!Calm Mids to other pokes seems like a handy trick to have.

  15. That may have something to do with the fact that Grass kinda sucks as a Type, mechanically speaking. 5 Weaknesses is an awful lot (made worse by the fact that one of them is to the power offensive Typing that is Ice), and of the three thing it can fit for Super Effective damage, two of them are shared with the bulkier Water Type and split between the awesome offensive Types of Ice and Fighting. Poison, Bug, and Flying are all extra common in the early game, too, which hinders their ability to thrive even more. Seriously, the plants just can't catch a break..

Though Ice is also a pretty bad one for Reborn, partially due to the fact that you're stuck dealing with how terrible a Type it is defensively (4 Weaknesses to a Resistance to your self does not a good wall make), and partially because you don't even get the first team member until after the first Gym. The endgame should be pretty solid, admittedly, seeing as there are a good fre decent Ice Types, but you aren't gonna seeing them for a good long while if you take this route.

  16. "Greetings, traveller! How did your trip through Illex Forest go?"
    "Illex Forest? Where's that again...?"
"Uh, the forest you came out of? Full of farfetch'd?"
"Farfetch'd! Do you think one of those could be strong enough to beat the Hoenn Champion?!"
"Uh, if I'm sure its bad soup might be able to do it?"
"Alright! ...Waitaminute, what do you mean by 'soup'?"

Okay, yeah, that forest lasted no time whatsoever for you, it seems. A bit odd, perhaps, but I guess there wasn't really a whole lot to show once the woodcutter has their runaway ducky back anyway. 🤷‍♀️

  17. You think waiting two years to between discovering the game and actually playing it is bad? I found out about its existence back in 2013, and didn't actually start playing until last year. Ame and co. have been working on this project for over half a decade, and they don't look like they're gonna be stopping anytime soon!

  18. So, things have reached a whole new fever pitch that somehow manages to make last month's problems seem laughable. An impromptu "family meeting" was called earlier, and the "highlights" are looking quite far from bright. Key points that arose:

    >My father has formally declared that he considers me to be an utter failure of a human being.

    >>Consequently, I have been disowned. Lovely, right?

    >He has admitted to having gone out to see if any mental support homes would be capable of taking me in.

    >>This scumbag move ultimately backfired on him, as I am far too high-functioning for such institutions.

    >Both the older of my siblings and I have been give an eviction notice for the end of the year. Never a good sign.

    >>He has gone out of his way to make sure none of his friends will be able to give either of us assistance when that the time comes. Considering just how overwhelmingly social and charismatic he is, that's a ridiculous reduction of options.

    >Seeing as our relationship has been increasingly based on hypocrisy, double-standards, and broken promises, he naturally expects us to pay every bit of rent in the meantime. Extortionism seems no end, it seems.

    >> He also expects us up root all of the bushes in the front yard, which is frankly at the bottom of my to-do list in regards of things. The dang things are around a decade old (so their root systems are well-established), planted right up next to the house wall, and we lack some of the tools needed to accomplish the task to begin with.

    >Not even three minutes after all that was laid out at the the table, he spouted out such lovely commentary as "everyone things I've been to lenient with you anyway" and "I'm a halfway-decent parent". Like, are we actually supposed to believe that bloody pile of botanical steroids?

    >>This is unfortunately the sort of ego-stroking commentary he's been spouting a lot more frequently lately. Remember my last post in this thread? 'Tis the same thing.

As one might expect, I'm pretty concerned about this turn of events. I've never been the most social person, so my list of people I could call for help that aren't caught up in my father's web is quite slim, so I have no idea where I could even go. Worse still, if I'm gonna be stuck struggling just to get by, I'll likely have to drop out of class next semester (and perhaps even longer than that) to make things work. And considering how all-important getting a degree is in this modern economy, that's a terrifying thought! I'm sure I'll be able to find some sort of fix action before this worst-case scenario rears its ugly head, but I really don't like the idea of my father robbing me of yet another life-helping experience either.

In the meantime, definitely expect my post count to drop somewhat. I suspect that my father will soon return to old trick of his and shut down my internet at home, which will limit me to only being able to access the internet from school (Monday-Thursday) and the public library (Friday-Sunday, depending on how pissy the beast is feeling at the time) once he pulls the plug. It's not an ideal workaround, sure, but it's one I've dredged up on my own after having to put up this isolating tactic since he first used it 2012. And besides, it's better than nothing, right?

  19. I wouldn't be so quick to discount feraligatr, actually- it does have a Crest, after all. With that equipped, the feraligatr will gain the benefits of the Strong Jaw Ability (so, a 50% power boost to its Crunch and Ice Fang attacks) and makes it so the first attack it uses every time its switched in gets +1 Priority. In conjunction with its natural access to Sheer Force, it'll be able to hit hard and fast should you want to keep it on your team. If you do feel the need to swap it out, though, Hamfam's milotic and swampert are good suggestions, as is empoleon with its own Crest (combining Defiant and Power Trip with the effects of Simple is kinda silly). That, and greninja isn't even available to a pre-existing game file yet anyway. 🤷‍♀️

Aside from that potential shift... there's not really a whole lot I can think of to help? You have the FWG team core in play, and (presumably) little in the way of Type overlaps. We're getting the Mega Z-Ring next Version, so Venusaur will get a buff then, tyranitar becomes a solid support tank with the Sand Stream+ Aerinite Wall combo, infernape just wrecks face like nobody's business (we don't have quite have access to enough of its support movepool to make use of its Crest yet, anyway), flygon works well as a setup sweeper (especially after tyranitar has set up), and silvally does well as a Parting Shot support bot while we wait for its Crest to be made available for us.

I would recommend getting and training up some other pokemon to use on rotation, though- the battles are only gonna get tougher from here on out, so having more options to work with should come across a foe that's too good at dismantling your current team. Silvally's Type versatility does help a little bit, true, but it's typically better to be safe than sorry.

Are we going to Neverwinter City next episode? It’s a good time to learn Anju’s story since we learned Cella and Vivian’s then Nymiera in the previous episodes.

I... doubt it. We've still got a few loose ends that need to be tied up in the Terrial Region still, and there's an entire area that we have to be allowed to explore to boot. The Dreamyard seems like a more reasonable next stop to me for that reason.

That said, we did recently gain access to the pier tied to Neverwinter in V12, and West Gearen was never accessable until after we finished up the business in Terajuma, so it's not a 100% impossibility. Perhaps we'll be allowed some limited exploration as a psuedo-postgame, like how the Zorrialin Labyrinth was in V11? 🤔
