That aside I disaggree with this. As an IT guy I constantly take from others. I take their techniques, their mistakes, the solutions,... and meld them with my own knowledge, mistakes, solutions,... to create an improved product while expanding my competences.

Do you think that art is any different? Does the first painter get the right to be the only painter? The concept that ideas can be owned is quite ridicolous and to be honest very arrogant.

True, but there's a difference between taking inspiration from someone or building on their work, and taking something they've made and calling it your own
