Hmm, I'm not too sure how the maths works out for them, but so far all of them have a balance of defence and offence. Speed's not so much of an issue due to the Bulldozing, or the Chlorophyll. However, the weaknesses you pointed out are indeed there - am mentally reworking the movesets and EV's to see how they'd compensate for that. Currently, sceptile seems to be the fastest on his own, with a speed of 610 once Unburden kicks in. Oh, I tried to avoid that. Which is why torterra has Sunny Day, and so on - even those that should be Bulldozing have the ability to jump-start the Chlorophyll if need be, stuff like that. However, to an extent, you are still right; the type coverage between the pairs isn't the best it could be, so I'm still going to experiment with this mix.

Technically not a traditional wrecking ball, but it does serve its purpose in slowing down the opposition The idea developed from Terra's old triple Pledge team, but this one's arguably a tad more practical since it doesn't require two combined moves for the speed reduction. This was made for doubles, but in triples with serperior at the centre, it could possibly be considerably damaging. --- Torterra (M) @ Yache Berry Trait: Shell Armor EVs: 116 Atk / 136 Def / 255 SDef Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk) - Rock Slide - Seed Bomb - Bulldoze - Sunny Day --- Serperior (M) @ Life Orb Trait: Contrary EVs: 36 Def / 255 SAtk / 36 SDef / 180 Spd Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk) - Leaf Storm - Giga Drain - Hidden Power [Fire] - Taunt --- Sceptile (M) @ Rock Gem Trait: Unburden EVs: 255 Atk / 136 Def / 116 Spd Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Leaf Blade - Rock Slide - Bulldoze - Crunch --- Tropius (M) @ Lum Berry Trait: Chlorophyll EVs: 52 Def / 255 SAtk / 28 SDef / 172 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Air Slash - SolarBeam - Hidden Power [ice] - Sunny Day --- Venusaur (M) @ Black Sludge Trait: Chlorophyll EVs: 116 Def / 255 SAtk / 136 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - SolarBeam - Sludge Bomb - Hidden Power [Fire] - Bulldoze --- Jumpluff (M) @ Focus Sash Trait: Chlorophyll EVs: 76 Def / 255 SAtk / 176 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Giga Drain - Worry Seed - Sleep Powder - Sunny Day --- So, what is the concept of this team? Basically, it works to slow down the opponents by using Bulldoze to lower their speed. Serperior's Contrary raises its speed every time Bulldoze hits it, and a Life Orb backing Giga Drain ensures that it can regenerate HP one it has raised its SAtk with Leaf Storm. The other parts of the team are all grass/flying types, so Bulldoze won't affect them. Jumpluff/tropius/torterra have Sunny Day as a backup plan, since tropius and venusaur have Chlorophyll (in the event of enemies with Levitate, or flying targets). One thing to note is that the team is basically divided into pairs, so you might have to redesign things a little if you wanted to use it differently (torterra/sceptile/venusaur for Bulldoze, serperior/tropius/jumpluff to benefit from it).

Aha, the process by which L'Hopital's rule is applied is differentiation - so if one does not have the ability to differentiate, one cannot apply the rule to solve the problem Technically a touch more complex than direct substitution or eliminating like terms, but it's still interesting - had a massive argument with someone that led to a falling out, and the formula came to mind somehow. Calculus probably gets more hatred than it is due, but I don't blame those who dislike it - integration gets on my nerves sometimes XD
-
I used seaking in my old version of this one, but rhydon does sound possible. Another possible option for Tailwind would be pelipper or swanna, I think.
-
L'Hopital's rule is used in calculus to evaluate limits that have an indeterminate form. As such, successive differentiation of the numerator and denominator could reveal the exact value of a limit that was apparently indeterminate. Might be a real geeky pun at work here, but there's the beauty of it all - within the apparent complexity lies the rather simple answer, as is the case with the rule's application. http://mathworld.wolfram.com/LHospitalsRule.html Well, I might have lost something through some fault of my own, but the principle holds true - everything goes both ways in the end.

Have a couple of buddies who swear by the Persona series, but I'm personally not sold on that one.

Hmm, perhaps I should have worded my post better - my point was that emotions probably aren't solely due to chemical interactions. That they are actually due to complex interactions between multiple systems in ways complex beyond human understanding. How is it possible for a person to react emotionally to something they've never seen/experienced before? One could argue that it's due to the power of mental association, but that has already stepped into the realm of neural connections. Sure, nerve impulses require neurotransmitters to be conducted, but how does the process of association take place? What guides it? You could say that memories and past experiences guide the process of association, but then there's the question of that notorious 'gut instinct' and intuitive guessing. You could very easily send someone into a fit of depression by pumping them full of depressants, or vice-versa with antidepressants. But those are just stimuli that cause one particular emotion to surface. Naturally-occurring emotions are possibly much more complex, since they can link to one another in some ways. So I guess my question is whether a being requires a highly complex systemic interaction for emotions to be felt. Not so much about it being tangible/intangible, but more to how it could start at a chemical level, and advance to other systems that take it beyond the possible scope of chemical reactions. Sort of like how corpses can't be reanimated - while a body definitely deteriorates after death, why can't they be resurrected if adequate restorative work is done on them? If life and emotions are mere matters of chemistry, surely resurrection would be possible if we could undo stuff like damage to the brain due to hypoxia after death? But then again, you could argue that all matter is chemical in nature, and that only anti-matter would not involve chemicals to an extent. So your tangible/intangible argument would hold true in saying that emotions cannot be chemically independent.
-
But in all honesty, I do believe that there is something beyond mere biochemistry in emotions. You could take all the building blocks of neurones and also the necessary chemicals, and shake them up in a flask, but what comes of it? Probably nothing. It is also probably beyond our mathematical ability to quantify emotions. Since science itself is basically a study of what can be quantified, I'd say that emotions are possibly beyond human comprehension when you get down to their most complex level. This is probably a combinatorics problem, come to think of it... emotions can also be derived from other emotions and memories, so the near-infinite number of possible interactions would probably defy all computations. While they may start as being dependent on physiological and biochemical factors - hence allowing for the effects of antidepressants and other drugs - eventually it could be possible for emotions to gain a sort of independence from mere chemistry. So... having a 'heart'? I do believe the closest to understanding that lies within the world of video games. Just look at the premise of Kingdom Hearts - and I'm not joking when I say that.
-
Maybe the heart got romanticized because it beats differently in different emotional settings? But then again, physiology usually defines the limits of your thinking and emotion, so... hmm.

One of the dodrio's heads is a hyperactive, sarcastic bastard of a troll who nonetheless manages to have friends since he's just that good at being verbally corrosive <s>It's Ian!</s> And he's also one of those gay folks that just seems to have a score of lesbian/bisexual girls as his friends. So Hark, you aren't the only one (though whether your girl friends are straight is an unknown variable here) XD
-
A Gen II set for gengar, that was only really afraid of Karen. It was designed to take down that bastard snorlax of Red's --- Gengar (F) @ Leftovers - Psychic - Hypnosis - Dream Eater - Curse --- Probably an extremely old form of trollgar XD
-
My old Gen I mix, since those seem to be back in the vogue. --- Victreebel - Mega Drain - Acid - Toxic - Wrap --- A relic from the days when Wrap meant not being able to attack, which made Toxic all the more deadly
-
They didn't have genders either, in Gen I

Heather's singles stall combo of skarmory/gliscor/mandibuzz was nasty, from what I saw in the battle logs. Heck, her yanmega alone was like a wrecking ball for many teams.
-
If you consider this league restrictive - it really is not restrictive, by the way, but fair - then you ought to look at how some of the other leagues run. Some even have a rule limiting the number of moves you have that are super-effective against whatever leader you are challenging. Granted, you can change your team for each leader, but where's the real challenge in that? If anything, the Reborn league should be held as an example of a league that tries to encourage versatility in team-building. And since they encourage the use of non-Legendaries, they actually stimulate some creativity, really.

Ame knows what the three of us will say here, so let's leave it at that

So, given that my rock-type monotypes were suffering so horribly in singles, I decided to venture into the rock-type legendaries since all but terrakion usually suck, anyway Specifically, I was looking for a legendary who could help me with those annoying skarmory/gliscor that always wall my rock teams. I ended up settling on regirock, of all pokemon. After a short discussion with Ame, when he mentioned regirock needing a steady source of recovery, I recalled that the Braille-studded thing could learn Drain Punch. Score! Coupled with the following EV's, he typically doesn't need speed, even - both defenses are high enough (SDef requires sand to back it, though) to weather a hit and retaliate accordingly. But of course, this is the laboratory! So it's a doubles concept --- Regirock @ Leftovers Trait: Clear Body EVs: 255 Atk / 36 Def / 216 SDef Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk) - Earthquake - Drain Punch - Smack Down - Ice Punch --- Lunatone @ Focus Sash Trait: Levitate EVs: 255 SAtk / 255 Spd Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk) - Psychic - Earth Power - Grass Knot - Skill Swap --- Lunatone floats it up, and you may commence the rocking. Smack Down and Earthquake are a two-piece combination intended to ground skarmory for an Earthquake, whereas Ice Punch with maximum Atk trolls gliscor. Drain Punch is for recovery, as stated earlier. So far, it's done reasonably well against its intended victims, and has even managed to take down a scizor who Bullet Punched it with +2 Atk. Opposing terrakion are also vulnerable, since they typically use Close Combat, which can't beat through regirock's defenses if it's at full HP. If you want it to be more towards an anti-scizor/ferrothorn/forretress thing, you could substitute Ice Punch for Fire Punch.
Taking a second glance at this, I don't think much will be outspeeding Gengar, so that may not entirely be necessary... But then again, the Choice Scarf exists so I guess it's your call =p
In doubles, plenty can outspeed gengar [s]especially those bastards who spam OHKO moves[/s] XD
-
Zebstrika has good a good hp base now? Take a hydropump to the face and it's down.
Well, the equations pretty much work out as follows during playtesting for doubles: Rotom-W + Scarf + Discharge = Super-effective damage to water enemies + (Zebstrika +1 Spd) --- (1) Zebstrika +1 Spd = Wild Charge before target can attack --- (2) (1) + (2) = Dead water type And given that in triples I have electivire on the other side of Rotom-W, that's a another blow in before they can attack, usually. Only excadrill ever rally poses a problem to the team, during playtesting. Should you have any doubts, we could always run a playtest

Even if our meetings thus far have all been regarding pokemon battling and online tactics, we definitely find you to be a fun person to be around. Alas, those 180 degrees of globe separate us. Nonetheless, if you just want a chat and we're around, feel free
-
Frankly, I do not get the comment's meaning sincegengar doesn't get STAB on Thunderbolt? :S
-
In response to Phazer's question - zebstrika can indeed take a hit, since Motor Drive apparently gives it the speed boost immediately. Either that, or our PO is glitching
-
Oh, I'm all for eradicating spammers where are my thumbscrews and torture devices? Just that sometimes, we might get carried away - I'm not fluent in my own mother tongue of Hokkein, so I sometimes get on my relatives' case, alas. So I figured a holiday's reminder may benefit others, just as it reminded me of my own shortcomings
-
Hmm, I thought there were subtitles on it? Sorry, but can't really do much about it, since she insisted on filming the individual festivity ads in their mother tongues Basically, it's about a bunch of old ladies in a home comparing their children's success in life. The last one, whose son is apparently not as successful, is visited by her son, who takes her on a trip during the Chinese New Year, while the others who had doctors/lawyers/auditors as their children weren't visited. Might be a tad stereotypical, but it did get her point across, aha.
-
So, the three of us seem to be a magnet for crass comments on PO, which frankly doesn't bother us (oh look, a magneton pun!) But anyway, since we've come to Christmas and soon the New Year, maybe it's time to count ourselves lucky that Reborn's always been a tolerant community, and to perhaps make it a resolution to keep it that way While you people on Reborn have always been polite and civilized, I came across this old video, and felt that it may be good to help everyone here remember why Reborn has survived as it has. The video did bring to mind the frequent 'speak English or leave' nonsense on other servers, and the fact that people who speak various languages still can coexist peacefully in this community. The video below was a Chinese New Year advertisement by the late Yasmin Ahmad, a rather gifted Malaysian director. It is about filial piety, and is entirely filmed in the Chinese dialect of Hokkien. Just take a look at the comments, and while Reborn's stance on proper English is good, keep in mind that other languages can have a beauty within them too Have yourself a Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year
