  1. So, your storytelling-style is somewhere between...
    - (trying to be) funny
    - pointing out flaws while mildly yet sarcastically expressing them like you're (unreasonably carefully) shittalking something for your negativity-breeding teenage audience on your stream that would praise it as flawless if you told them the opposite
    - there should be a third point to make it look more sophisticated but in the reply box, the second point reaches over more than one line, so it's point two and three

no subscription, but I'll eat some chocolate and wait for the other parts. ^-^

  2. Have you thoroughly searched Teknite?

    Anyway,
Ame loves these hidden things with only little hinting at them, so they are indeed envisioned to be solved / found out by Mr./Mrs./Mx. Crazypants.
Beldum was looked up in RPG Maker (iirc) and definitely not discovered normally.

As a player I always have some mixed feelings about them, but that is moreso due to Reborn not being finished.

For instance, you'd have to connect "a cave reached only by crossing a ledge, or maybe it will be accessible from the other side in the future or something???" with "if it won't, the only thing crossing a ledge is a Tauros, but how do I get a Tauros here" with "the only ways you can quickly switch a location are..." with "all the normal ways don't work, what are the not normal ways"

technically you have to find the solution to a pattern, which is doable ; but the idea is so absurd that it is super tough in the end.
however, Beldum always struck me as a special case even among hidden content.

Overall, I think it's a good sign if a creator makes the effort to force the player to be creative and think thoroughly to unlock and discover everything.

  3. I can't say exactly, but personally I put in EV training before going to Agate after beating Luna.
Personally I'm always a bit afraid of Charlotte :P

Someone who likes to look into the gamefiles can give you more specific answers ; some things *are* set even early on, just not too harshly or very specific ones ; things are definitely maxed in E18 :P
My gut feeling is that it picks up gradually overall, however, simply from a game-progress standpoint, the latest to expect it is E16, if not a bit earlier. I'm sure Terra has things set up properly, I wouldn't be surprised if that's true for Charlotte as well.

Too many to count, but Advance Wars is a series that really sticks out. Always got my older brother to get me past levels I couldn't beat lol! Every direct I wait for Advance Wars 5, but deep down I know It probably won't come for at least a long time still...

I only discovered that one much later, but oh boy.
The original one + 2 + Dual Strike (barring some... balance issues) are dope ; Days of Ruin was pretty weak tho tbh.

One would think they sacked it in complete favor of Fire Emblem as their tRPG, but who knows what the AW staff has actually been doing since then tbh.... not gonna bother to compare credits x)

  5. ah, don't worry about what others might or might not think (so much). do you often do that?
just play so you can enjoy it!

if -you- feel that not using items is something you want to accomplish, that it is something that feels rewarding for you personally because hey then you obviously did or prepared 'better', only then go for it!

  6. Ah, of course Tailwind can do that, yes.
Have I been to Teknite Range or have I not :')

    Me fool.

And I just noticed that for PSMD it says "pure" Flying-types, which is not the case in Reborn. Mixed Flying-types benefit as well.

...Arceus and Tornadus are the only pure ones? lol
...Well that's not a surprise anymore if you think about how they strapped the Normal-type to any of the early available birds ever.

  7. I'm p sure it's this thing
    image.png.ace517236295d70f4a8913e80dcab444.png

The only Pokémon ever having access to a 'wind' weather is Mega Rayquaza, with its Ability Delta Stream, which will, in addition to the effect of removing Flying-type weaknesses, also hinder other weather moves and abilities from working, with the exception of Desolate Land (Primal Groudon) and Primordial Sea (Primal Kyogre).

(To clarify, Reborn's windy weather does not have these additional effects.)

Unless I have missed something big-gish, no move or anything else can create it.

  9. not to the full extent or anything, without all the attached drama, but Titania felt relatable, in a sense.
I have once done basically nothing but being there for and taking care of a significant other, for about 10 months a few years back.
day to night, night to day. I was like a sole focus point for everything. even had to be in a call when she was sleeping, otherwise, well, unstable reactions occured.
nothing suicidal or close to that. but definitely unhealthy.

I didn't really have hobbies at the time other than watching the local handball club play in their arena about every week to two weeks, and of course gaming a lot with friends.
instead of stabbing Meteors, I gave up on the first (not only due to my SO though), and probably could count the amount of times per month I got to play peacefully with my friends on one hand.
maybe I had like 3-4 hours per day for myself due to timezone difference (a remarkable 6-7 hours) ; these hours did include being ready to answer any text immediately to avoid said unstable reactions.
so you could say I stabbed the necessity to properly take care of myself and take timeouts.

now, the big difference is, I actually love(d) the person, and I generally enjoy taking care of someone quite a lot. and most of the time we spent was actually very fun.
however, I suppose all of these can be true, yet having about no time for yourself will take a toll on you one way or another.
and I guess the funny thing is that it was her breaking up instead of the other way round - which, to this day, I feel ???????????? about, for the most part.

  10. Nope, everything is quite vanilla.
The only big thing instantly coming to my mind is that you won't actually need to trade Pokémon for an evolution that usually requires trade, once you have come to a certain point in the game. (It's not too far in.)

Thanks so much for the response! My only other question is whether there is an online mode. I assume you can trade and battle with other real players, is this correct?

As for now, it is disabed though, and iirc, I read something about early September to bring it back online??

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy the game, try to spend some attention onto the characters if that is your thing, and should you ever be in trouble with a battle or other, definitely hit up either the forums or the discord server!

EV / IV and Nature are not needed in particular, but will make it noticeably easier, I think. Getting outsped by something that shouldn't just feels aaaggravating to me. x)
The game itself does work with them, and especially for important battles (later into the game?), you will face EV-trained opponents with an advantageous Nature.

As said above, you can work around that just fine though!

Not really true. Kabutops gets the stab coverage that allows it to do a lot more to ground / steel types (even outside of rain), which facilitates Rock Slide spam for the rest of his team. Lycanroc cannot do that (since it's currently banded) unless it gets another item, even after which it can't do anything to ground types.

Also, with a base 115 attack, Kabutops hits just as hard as a Lycanroc (assuming both have equivalent items), while trading speed (outside of rain) for coverage. You're free to disagree with the suggestion, but saying that it adds nothing isn't true.

Leaving aside the tone of that comment, I'll just say this: no fight can satisfy everyone. Obviously, there are type and AI limitations that can't be overcome, and that's perfectly fine.

Even so, sometimes other people can stumble upon ideas that are worth considering, even if they aren't implemented (once again, perfectly fine). Sure, anyone going against Hardy with Mega-Aggron or other fat steels will have a very easy time and that's no surprise. And yet, one or two tweaks mentioned in this thread would make those matchups better for Hardy. He'll still get beaten by them, but he'd have a better chance (not saying every idea is good, but not all are worthless either).

If you think this is a waste of time, then that's that. But painting everyone who thinks otherwise as uninformed, entitled people isn't accurate*. Maybe that wasn't your intention (in that case my bad), but it sure does look like it.

*fwiw I've got a fair bit of experience in both competitive and game development.

    Spoiler

The tone is not to be left aside, and exactly what suits "CHANGE THIZ!!!11" people. Aka *names half-random mon (and maybe, just maybe, how it is good elsewhere)* among other things.
    Gotta bite the bullet.
At that kind of behaviour and nothing else was this directed, and therefore "painting everyone who thinks otherwise" doesn't even apply. Idek what you in specific wrote.
Not that there was an abundance of that in here either, but it exists, and needs to not exist.

I am way within the "too uninformed" part, that's why you don't see me runnin' around suggesting other stuff.
I do not judge bringing forth ideas, but how they are presented, and how little they tend to entertain all the necessary variables.

Useful discussion would have to take into account the interaction with a considerable amount of things, as Pokémon offers a ton of these in Mons, Moves, Abilities and Items.
What is the new proposal better at? But wait, what is it weaker to? Does it still compliment the rest of the strategy?
Does it crowd out too many options an average player is able to find or willing to invest time into while still enjoying the game? Does it enable an overall too easy new strategy?

Not too much of that out there, is there now?
In the light of the necessary knowledge, yes, most people will be too uninformed. And we're talking way over 95% here. Way over.
It is the same everywhere in games and life, denying that is impossible.

So what about the 95%+? Should they just not say anything ever? No, that's not the point, as should be clear from deduction of what I wrote a few lines higher up.
Induce discussion, exchange ideas, this is what a forum is for!
But you should know the heck your situation, and you don't get to "how/why did the -insert actually knowledgeable person of whatever field- (not) ??!?!?" or "it definitely needs that!!!".
Yeah, great, I like how phrases like that show someone actually thinks that their casual line of thought is just better.
(Not like there's someone who actually spends days and nights in cooperation with people they respect to actually know their stuff on figuring it out, am I right?)
Which, funnily, is exactly what this thread stems from (but by no means does everyone leaving their thoughts in here do that).

"(I'm not the best player, but)
the fight definitely needs this, this and that,

and how people with multiple years of experience in competitive play and game development make such bad decisions is completely beyond me,
it would be much better if they implement MY IDEA that is founded on (I'm not the best player, but) little knowledge of historical, current, and game meta,
MY IDEA would have made it much harder for ME to win, it was just way too easy with my Mega Aggron, and btw Shuckle would literally destroy me,
and all these very strong 50-80 base speed Rock-types would be way better in a team and battle conceptualized around 110+,
and I also absolutely fail to take into account any middleground that has to be found for a broad playerbase with given AI limitations."

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  14. Spoiler

Yeaaah but you kinda don't get to decide what's in the game or how its references are handled, even though judging by your tone, you would enjoy that more.
And frankly, "who what when where why", what an overstatement, given that the order of the leaders is one of the most easily explained things.
It's not an unreasonable stance wanting to have the strongest leaders with the given AI limitations come last, so it's not like I don't understand ya.
That's fine, but any creation out there won't fulfill your personal preferences at every point.
I'd suspect that for every person who had an easy time and is not satisfied, there's 100 folks that don't complain while experiencing the same, and 100 folks that don't complain experiencing the opposite.

If you don't wanna know more about backgrounds, that's just as fair.
Not like you'd have to in order to dive into the world and characters, if that's your thing, but then it's also kinda moot to come and complain this way. The structure is set.
Not saying that the playing experience of people who do not dig further should be less enjoyable by any means, and like, sorry Hardy didn't do it for ya.
But people waltzing in with signifcantly advantageous Pokémon against an AI will, in many cases, probably not give you the experience you seem to long for once you have unlocked the good stuff.
Same as in any broad-audience commercial strategy game including vs. AI. After a usually rough(er) early game, you'll have developed the possibilities to quickly use effective counter strategies.
Mostly that's handled by giving the AI other bonuses (that often appear OP to the player if taken at face value), like hidden starting resources, one-sided combat bonuses, or sheerly outnumbering the player.
Now, the whole outnumbering doesn't go so well in Pokémon, usually the player even outnumbers official leaders and bosses greatly.
So, what should be the norm for a challenge (leaders fielding able full teams), for a milestone in a game (getting a badge), is perceived as a challenge instead of the norm, and if the challenge turns out to be easy in one's case, that means disappointment. Understandable.

Comparison: You know what Gamefreak seems to do? They straightout give their AI less moves to work with. Look at this, for instance: <https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Hau#Sixth_battle>
This is a complete joke, but because Hau's Pokémon are at a very good level at the time of that battle and the Raichu can sweep, it'll leave the average player with a fainted mon or two or three, or none, depending on what they happen to have.

The "OP bonuses", aka Field Effects, are given to the leader initially, and the player has to either abuse them too or destroy that advantage with the potential of even turning it around.
This is a realllly great concept here if you ask me, and is especially challenging to folks that have never bothered to go at least a little more intricate on Pokémon.
Fighting a leader face to face on their field, not altering it, should probably result in a highly disadvantageous, but at least a roughly even matchup, depending on how prepared (type advantage, likewise boosted moves) you arrive. And this will be the case for many many many many many players out there.
Now, what would be even is probably advantageous to the player, since you're not a code. Unless we in the Matrix. But then that would make you superior code.
And what is advantageous turns into highly advantageous. You get the drift.

Improving the AI has been a focus, however, I don't think there's any need to point out what kind of task it would theoretically make to get it up to a completely competitive level.

Oh how the mighty have fallen?

Still that's not a story reason for why he's higher than leaders with clear type advantages over him.

    Spoiler

that argument really does not bring you anywhere, there'll always be leaders above others despite having a type disadvantage no matter how you spin the wheel, and that's absolutely not how this game rolls.

I'm not sure if you are aware then that the character and backstories of ingame leaders are usually a combination of
    - the real-life events of at least one person who was playing that leader in the online league (talking about 2012 and before I think)
    - the roleplay for the leader which was thought up by Ame at the time (you ever wonder why leaders have such distinct personalities like they could fit into a show?)

being mad about Hardy feeling weak to some people (which is the case for any leader), when there is no chance to replicate his triple battle trick room shenanigans which made him a more difficult opponent than the ones you would so dearly wish to be above him, is both understandable and completely pointless. like, not pointless as in feedback is pointless, but it's pointless wanting to deny him the spot he has.
he the heck earned it, mate.

you say there is no story reason? why, wake up, the online league and its people *is* the story.

  16. Spoiler

the ranking of the gym leaders was decided before the game was even made - due to their tier and rank during the old days of the actual online league, measured not by leader vs leader, but if I understood correctly, how successful they were against challengers.
with his proper strategy set up and used by a human brain, according to Ame, Hardy was a frickin' menace to everyone. and yes, flinch. 😛

    @Mudcrab

  17. Spoiler

There will be a general solution Ame will have to settle for in the end, as always. Any feedback can help her,
but while it is a thing that there could be mon A or B that would have stopped *your* or a similar team specifically, in the end it is not about stopping *your* team, and it is not about making *you* "taking it seriously" or "impressing" *you*. There've been enough other instances of people simply getting sweeped.
I do apologize for making this with some harsher emphasis, but the big picture needs to be kept in mind.
Nonetheless it is important that both people who had an easy time and people who had a hard time (...) make it known to enable an evaluation.

Only during beta testing and before is an openly accessible textfile available in the game folder into which the AI outputs its scoring - but that is moreso the case to identify obvious bugs, severe unwanted cases or inactions. The AI probably had horrible values for trying to take out Ferrothorn in particular due to its resistance. I was unable to see Hardy's possible coverage, but Fire is probably not among it at all. Even with that, Ferrothorn is admirably tanky, even more so physically, which is Hardy's thing, if I am not mistaken.

Now, leaders *should* fulfill the impressive part to a certain extent for many people, I feel. Especially when first encountering them - as you can start reacting quite well after an initial loss, and most of the time can round it out the third time if something still doesn't work. But we all know better - it's tough to achieve, especially since mono-type leaders give you the chance to prepare thoroughly, which depending on their exact team, might still fail even if you raise a team with a couple members that have a considerable type advantage by themselves.

I brought up Tyranitar, and any other of the points (of which a real focus should be the AI-usage of items; that is simply still a mess in terms of score values for now due to an error or two having naturally been made during coding it), moreso to present a clearer look at why things might have been made the way they are (for now).
I am well aware there are mons used by more than one significant opponent, it is not the focal point of what I wanted to express, just a possible factor.

Another important point, the feedback size before community is considerably small.
While it does entail some people that (I think) pretty much know what they are doing, the broader picture unfolds earliest after community release only.

  18. Spoiler

Yes, the core weakpoint of Hardy is his one-dimensionality. You get the jump one time, you'll win. There will be some things that just totally shut him down. But that's not even exclusive to him either.
Like, if you can KO or impair the Aerodactyl on turn one while using a Rain Dance with your other mon, and then either having something with really high base speed (like a Starmie) or a capable Swift Swimmer with Surf waiting to outpace even his team.

Item usage for the AI is still beaing tweaked and a bit of a headache overall.

Consider that he is probably the leader straying the hardest (hah) away from his Online League counterpart who battled in triples and with an immensely smart usage of Trick Room instead of having a simple high speed sweeping setup. It is imaginable that given his type, it becomes much harder to make it an apt challenge the more options are taken from him, and you'd probably need a specifically written AI to dish it out.

Tyranitar is a questionable choice not due to the Pokémon, but due to Luna also having one already. I would imagine that Ame is trying to make the leaders' teams not have repetitions among each other.
But also, Ame will thoroughly consider any feedback. It wouldn't be the first time she changed up a team between community and public release.
