Brotherhood gets way too corny at times for my tast, and 2003's general tone is more mature, engrossing and less shoneny. I also felt the homunculi overall were a bit more interesting in 2003, especially Lust. And even if you like Brotherhood more, 2003 is far from meh, jeez hyperbole. I know there's a divide on the ending portion but I kind of liked it personally. It was bittersweet but felt more believable that way. Didn't brotherhood have God or something appear towards the end...

Brotherhood had an uberhomunculous as opposed to '03 having a random character that we'd never really heard of before and sudden dimension hopping. The issue with '03's ending is mostly that there was no form of foreshadowing whatsoever because, uh, it wasn't what the story was pointing towards before
