      Pick a type other than Rock, Steel, Ice, and Dragon, and just kind of feel your way around your team fixing any issues by replacing moves or Pokemon.

      Consider trying out every pokemon of that type you haven't before, as they could prove useful

      Also remember ability capsules. I kind of wish I started with overgrow snivy in retrospect because contrary snivy hasn't been too useful in gym matches so far while at least I could've set up sunny growth with OG snivy, especially since contrary is useful moreso later on.
