That's just a problem in general with series that have large character casts. There is only so much time to develop all of your characters. That's why you generally see that only a certain set of characters will gain any development at any one time. A good example would be To Aru Majutsu no Index. In the anime, there is actually very little character development for the main character. Overall, it seems that he is a generally static character and this is a result of the anime staff deciding that it would be better to tell the story and develop the setting at the cost of important character development and this is due to constraints on the series. Take the first arc of the series, for example. What you do see in the anime is the relationships between characters develop but not the characters themselves. This is something that is different from the first volume of the novels where the main character has some pretty important development (heck, I could probably write a good short essay about it if I wanted to) and you can see him progressing in some way. In other words…I lost my train of thought. I guess my main point is that adaptations have limits that make it so that character development for a large cast is impossible.

With Hiroki's approval, Ruri closed her eyes and took a deep breath. As she opened her eyes, she let the lyrics flow with a firm, but serene tone. "If I were able to stay in slumber forever, I'd be able to forget this sadness. There are nights when I wish for that as I fall asleep." She stayed in place, never once moving her legs and only moving the empty hand closer and closer to her chest. "It is a a fleeting dream. Yes, an ephemeral dream I dreamt with you. Even in a 100-year slumber, Someday, a story will have to end. Once I flip to the last page…" With that, she was caught in the flow of the song. Without even paying attention to whether or not the musical accompaniment, she made a short breath for the pause and started off with the chorus. 'I, Sleeping Beauty, will awaken now'

As per Ringo's request, Ruri ignored her as she spoke to Hiroki. "Oh no. I didn't mean I wanted to do the song fully a cappella. That's a bit much. I was thinking that you could jump in with the instrumental accompaniment at some point." She put her index finger to her nose and pondered before having a quick eureka moment. "I got it. We can imitate the concert somewhat. You can jump in right at the start of the chorus. So when I finish the lines," she paused to sing the lines in the right rhythm. 'Someday, a story will have to end. Once I flip to the last page…' "You can join in when I start singing the chorus, 'I, Sleeping Beauty, will awaken now'. Does that seem good?"

Ruri listened to the familiar chorus of Nemuri Hime. "Yep. That's the song." After hearing Kagari's beckoning, Ruri questioned her while fiddling with the microphone in her hand. "Wait, we're doing Nemuri Hime? If so, I want to start it a capella like Kisaragi Chihaya-san did on her return concert."

Ruri was at first just going to stand back and watch what the others were doing. After all, she had no real interest in the instruments. Still, it would have been rude to do so. As such, she walked over and picked up an identical microphone from the same cabinet and walked up next to Kagari. She thought of a song she liked to sing a few lines from to do a vocal warm-up and started with a few lines from it. "If I were able to stay in slumber forever, I'd be able to forget this sadness. The days faraway we spent together Are the light and shadow in my memories. I am still wandering in the labyrinth of my heart." With that, she cut herself off. "Um-hmm. That sounds good."
