They've said before in interviews that Ash will always be the protagonist of the series, that once he becomes a Master, the shows ends, and that winning the league is equating to being a Master.
He won the Orange Island League - so since he already won his second league tournament, the show should have ended long ago... is everthing after that just a fever-dream of his??
