That's part of what makes the game great, you get attached to certain characters and when they die, it triggers actual emotions. It also helps to cement Team Meteors cruelty. Although, it's been all leaders that have died and no primary characters.

I promise you, the game will be difficult if you only try to run six Pokemon. I have ten and they get trained before every gym just by natural progression. I haven't really thought up some others though. I'll edit when I do.
