I honestly have no clue lol! The only more reasonable explanation I could come up with is that Charmander hid his tail from the water by putting it in his mouth. And that's not even a good one because I don't think the tail is that long to reach a Charmander's mouth. And putting a bag over that flame will just burn the bag so...

"Gooaaalll!" Danielle had yelled as Lady crashed into the ground. She was quite ecstatic after that victory, and Kristen's seething anger was a good cherry on top. "That was great Za---" Of course, she was interrupted as Kristen ordered her new Skrelp to use Water Pulse. "Dodge that by going into a hole!" She quickly commanded. Danielle knew there was a small chance for him to make an impact before he went down. And she doubt he would want to go down yet. Unlike his now-hyper trainer, Zared's attention was focused on his opponent's side of the field the whole time. He was ready to dive out of the way as soon as the Skrelp was sent out and, as a result, he managed to gather the last of his energy and scrambled into a nearby hole to avoid the Water Pulse. "Zared? Can you keep going?" 'Of course! I"m not going down that easily!' Instead of his usual, triumphant cry, however, his eyes began to water. As he climbed out of the hole, he began to sniffle, letting the tears fall down to his cheeks and towards the ground. 'Fake Tears?' Danielle instantly turned onto Kristen, giving a seemingly angry look. "Hey, chill out! I was about to recall Zared so that he could get some rest! Now look what you did! You made my Pokemon cry!" As if to confirm her "suspicions," Zared's sniffling turned into outright crying; he was clutching his scratched up horn and showing the Skrelp what Lady did to him.

"All out, boy?" Danielle asked, although she knew the answer already. Her Mawile responded by producing another Fairy Wind, his jaws chopping on thin air to signal that he is ready for the barrage of bubbles. "Get the goal then, Zared! Give it all you got!" Danielle cheered. Zared didn't need to be told twice. He cringed as some of the bubbles popped on his face but managed to direct the pink wind towards Lady and the hole. The Mawile then watched as the Marill made its descent back to Earth, panting from exhaustion. The fire in his eyes, however, is still shining brightly.

'Got you' The Hidden Powers that missed Lady had made their impact on the ground, resulting in holes that are big enough to fit a small Pokemon. "Charge up an Iron Head and prepare to play ball with your horn!" Danielle shouted enthusiastically. Zared took a glance at the hole-filled field as his whole body turned into a metallic gray color. After digesting Danielle's command, his grin widened, as he was pleased with her plan. He waited patiently for his master to order the next phase of the strategy as he stared down the incoming Marill. Once Lady is almost on top of Zared, Danielle executed her, hopefully, last command. "Time to score a goal, Zared! Put that head to good use! Iron Fury!" Zared managed to slam down his second jaw into the ground just in time as Lady rolled into it. Grunting a little at the impact, he then kneeled downwards so that Lady is on his mandible. In a split second, Zared knocked her up into the air with his horn and delivered the said Iron Head to make her change course. Once she is out of his personal space, Zared cried out and pointed to the nearest hole that he has planned to knock the Marill to; the signature pink Fairy Wind raced around him before it made its way over to a still accelerating Lady, making it harder for her to get away from the incoming hole.
