My Written Run

Recommended Posts

So, as I am relatively new to writing , I figured why not try to make a written playthrough of the game. The idea came after reading Wolfox's reading playthrough Wolfox's written run as well as MCR's Nostalgia Playthrough ( check them out if you didn't ).

The main caracters are charvero.png.46bbaf922aac39689b4b1832dd872f9b.png Jack Winters ( I know on the page it says his name is Vero, but eh, it's my playthrough XD )

and his best friend charkuro.png.f52309adbcf55f2e7a74e073906ddd65.png Kaz Finley  ( same as before, my run - my names for them )

I do accept suggestions critics on how to improve this.

I'm putting it as a spoiler bcs, you know. Figures.

ps: I just want to add, I shit kid you not, I replayed the first part of the game to match the exact dialogue from the game.

Spoiler

Another day in Littleroot Town. The sun is barely rising, but I’m awake for some time. Can’t sleep. I’m just staring out the window . Thinking about my decision made, long ago. The decision to leave this region. There’s nothing holding me here. My mother is dead while my father barely knows I exist. Soon, I’ll be 18 and I can leave my uncle’s house. I still wonder what went wrong with this world.

Hard to imagine that barely 12 years ago, the end happend. But not as some said, due to a massive natural disaster. It was human greed. All the regions were affected by the actions of one man. One great experiment, which would’ve helped everyone, but was used instead to bring millions into the pockets of the greedy, became the greatest event to ever take place. Every single electrical device on this planet, turned off. All of them. So it wasn’t just angry teens their PCs died, moms complaining the TV isn’t working, or dads annoyed the car won’t start. It was much more.

Hoenn. If the massive fall-out wasn’t enough, riots followed. Death tolls reached thousands, both human and Pokémon. Now, after twelve years, the region started to recover, but the young, ambitious trainers were decided to leave. You could see the lines at the train stations that brought back in use the old steam trains. There was nothing that would’ve stopped the trainers from leaving. Some parents waited alongside their children, with younger ones close to their big brothers and sisters. The last moment they would have before the departure, probably never to see them again.

Sinnoh was a popular choice. After the fall-out, it was the first to recover, becoming a massive region, due to marketing and business. Pokémon Breeding was also a very popular and searched occupation, as many Pokémon lost their lives, and some species were close to extinction. Many corporations such as Devon or Sliph Co. chose to move their Headquarters to Sinnoh, due to its stability and recovery

Kanto became a massive research region, and it was the perfect choice for youngsters that were aiming to continue their scientific studies travelled. All the top professors and scientists wished to come to Kanto, due to its many labs and research station. Turns out, Kanto became a point of interest for Pokémon

Johto, well...It was almost eradicated. The fall-out provoked a series of natural disasters: earthquakes, floods, eruptions, you name it. Few cities survived. It was the region with the most losses. The cities that survived were the ones close to Mt. Silver and Kanto, so the survivors received immediate help.

Unova. It’s a middle ground. The fall-out provoked the least damages to the cities, but it still had consequences. Due to its big airport, many airplanes were in the air that faithfull day. The fall-out completely shut them down. They crashed. No survivors. But the region itself survived. Almost no casualty or destruction. Almost.

Kalos was the epicenter. Completely eradicated. The fall-out originated from one of its labs. From what I heard, one certain professor had an obsession with a Magnemites and their apparent ability to generate electricity. One miscalculation later … here we are. There were little survivors. It’s estimated that only 0.4% survived. That’s less than one thousand, from eight million.

Alola Region and Sevii Islands were hit by massive tsunamis generated by the shockwaves form the fall-out. A good part of those regions were destroyed. But they endured, survived, and rebuilt. It’s considered now a safe place. Many families leave for Alola and Sevii as the economic and educational systems are evolving and are much better.

Just 10 years ago, my mother died due to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). She got it when she went to donate blood, and the doctor didn’t replaced the needle. Meds were scarce and I couldn’t get a hold of them. She died right in front of me

My father was in the military. He helped as many as he could during the fall-out and after. But the horrors were to much. He developed Huntington’s Disease due to long term stress and genetic heritage. I develop it too, in the future.

So here I am, just staring out the window. It’s 9:30. I go along my cousins down for breakfast. Can’t eat. Still thinking about my departure. Funny thing is I didn’t tell my uncle about it until now. Figured it would be easier to tell him later. It only got harder. I didn’t want to anger him, my uncle, which since the day my father was threw in the asylum nearly 10 years ago, he looked after me. He was like a father to me, even if we always fight. The silence is broken by him:
-What’s the matter kid? Meowth stole your appetite?

My two cousins and aunt laugh. I crack a smile too, but I’m still worried. I worked up enough courage and told him:

-I plan to leave for Reborn.

Silence. My cousins are looking sad, my aunt is shocked, and my uncle is still processing what I said.

Reborn. After the fall-out, this new region was created. It was said to be the a great region, rival to Kanto, due to its beauty. Only, in the recent years, things didn’t worked out so well for Reborn. Different events led to the region becoming a broken shadow of its former self. I knew that. But I was determined to go.

-Well, he said in the end, if this is your decision, I can’t stop you, kid.

I am glad and relieved he accepted. I didn’t think he would’ve coped with it, but it turned out ok.

It’s 15:30, at the train station. The line is terrible. Countless trainers were waiting for their turn to the ticket booths, as countless other came from other regions. They were decided to leave their homes, to go to other regions. Some were in groups, some were alone. The passing rains don’t help either, as the line stretches all the way outside.

As I wait with my uncle, I hear someone calling me from behind.

??? : Hey, Jack!

I turn around and I see Kaz alone.

charkuro.png.f52309adbcf55f2e7a74e073906ddd65.png Kaz Finley

He is my best friend since I came in Littleroot. When I first came in the town, he was the first to ask to be friends. For every pranks and schemes I pulled and got caught, he managed to talk my forgiveness. He saved me from so much trouble I owe him many. We are opposites: I am the strongest and most athletic, while he was the smartest. I don’t lack brains, I know a few thing, but he knows a lot more than me.

It’s 17:30. Finally my turn at the ticket booth. As I aproach, the ticket booth opens, and an old man, in his sixties, starts speaking:

Cashier : Another one for Reborn city, huh? They sure have been pushing that new league.  Let’s see... Which one of these  was it?

The cashier’s desk was full of tickets. Many wanted to leave. In that mess, He somehow manages to find my ticket. It only had my picture, the rest was blank.

Cashier : This is you, huh? Certainly looks like it. And what was your name again?

  charvero.png.46bbaf922aac39689b4b1832dd872f9b.png   Jack Winters

I’m thinking it’s weird. I’ve planned to leave this place for a long time. And now, it seems surreal. It’s actually happening.

Cashier : Got it.

Tick, tick, tick, tick

Cashier : Then, just to be sure, for “Gender” I should put…

Jack : Male, of course.

Cashier : Right.

Tick, tick, tick, tick.

Cashier : One sec, I’ll handle the rest of this.

Tick, swoop, tick, tick, tick, tick

Those infernal tickings were driving me nuts. I know electronic devices were replaced for old mechanisms, but honestly!

Finally, it was done. My ticket was complete.

NAME                        Gender

Jack                           Male

Trn - 8R750               Seat - 5D

ARR : Grandview Station

Adult : ONE               Type : SGL

Cashier : There. All set.

I take my ticket, but the old man clearly wanted to tell me something.

Cashier : Just between you, me, and the ol’ battered fence post, I heard Reborn City’s kind of a dump. Why  anyone would wanna go there is beyond me. And yer, buncha you ambitious Trainer-type folk have been headin’ out in droves. But off you go now. Train’s leaving any minute. NEXT!

I go along side my uncle and we wait for Kaz. He was behind a couple of people, but he will make it. In the meantime, my uncle has a final talk to me:

Uncle : You be careful there kid. I heard from your father’s old CO Reborn is pretty messy. Gangs, criminals, and hobos roam the city. A lot of people will want to hurt you. Be careful.

Jack : I can handle it. Why spend so much money on self-defense classes if not to use them?

I figured Reborn will be dangerous, so I took some self-defence classes, taught by the military in the zone. I felt a great amount of pain while learning, but it was worth it.

Finally Kaz arrived. His seat was right next to mine. We said our goodbyes to our families and embarked on the train. It’s 20:30. I’m exhausted as I’m awake from 5 am. I see Kaz passed out and it didn’t took me long to fall asleep too.

10:24 AM - We are now in Tourmaline Desert. We nearly arrived in Reborn. About time. My ass is going stiff standing around so much. Outside, I could see remnants of train hulls and locomotives. I wonder what happened. We are in the middle of the desert and there were no tracks near the hulls. And there were many.

Also, I had a weird sensation. Near Littleroot there were Gastlys and Haunters, who loved scaring the people in the town. Ever since then, I could feel when something is near me. Kaz shrug it off as hallucinations from the heat and boredom.

Things got even weirder. An Absol on a small rock formation, close to the tracks.

In Hoenn, there is an old legend. Absol is considered bad omen. It’s presence symbolises misfortune and even death. When you see an Absol it’s considered you, or someone near you, will suffer a misfortune. I’m not one for the legends but, … Damn thing … I think it looked right at me... Gave me chills.

??? : Okay, thank you very much! I’ll see you when we get into the city.

A voice of a woman came from the seats next to us. I was still thinking about that damn Absol, and her abrupt voice startled me.

Next thing we knew, in front of us sat the young, silver-haired woman. It looked better dressed than the most of us. I remembered that I saw her before. She is Ame, the manager of the Reborn League.

Ame : All right, hello there! Your turn now; sorry for the wait. My name is Ame. I’m the manager of the Reborn League.

Kaz : Nice to meet you. I’m Kaz and this is Jack.

Jack : Hey.

Ame : Good to meet you as well. You were also looking to sign up for the League as well, right? It would be great if so! We’re finally just getting things off the ground again. Truth is, after the incident a few years ago, the whole region was almost completely abandoned… even by the Pokémon.

Kaz looked a bit worried. His goal was to breed Pokemon in Reborn to help the Pokemon Population. He never imagined it would be that bad.

Ame : ...Uh, but! Don’t let that worry you! It might not be an ideal place, but our gym leaders are like nothing you’ve ever seen before, and I think you’ll find Reborn to be a region like no other too! I’m coming back from some business out of town, so I figured I might as well introduce myself early and get a head start on everyone’s registration.

There were a lot of Trainers in the train. Many, from different regions, so I could only imagine the amount of applications for Trainer Cards.

Ame : Could I see your boarding tickets please?

Kaz handed both of them. I was still wondering… what could’ve made that Absol   show up. From what I know, Absol are pretty damn rare. The fall-out killed a lot, and they were scarce to begin with. And that sensation. And I could still feel that presence. Still lingering.

Ame : Okay, I’ve got you down. We’re almost at Grandview Station, so after we disembark just follow me to the Grand Hall. There, I’ll give you a starter Pokémon to really kick off your adventure in Reborn. Sound good?

That’s something we both forgot. Which Pokémon do we want as starters.

Ame : Then if you’ll--

Um.

She immediately had this grim look on her face. Like she saw a ghost, right above us. Sure enough, when we raised our heads, we saw just for a split second before it was gone…

 A shadow.  charshade.png.585f5897f127c467e9621165b327f59d.png

Ame : Something’s not right…

We both started to get worked up.

Ame : Shouldn’t we be decelerating already?

True enough, we should have. The locomotive was steam-based. It takes some time to gain speed, but it it won’t fail you. The only problem? The brakes are weak. At this speed, we would slam into the station.

Ame : Oh no --- move!

Ame jumped and pushed us out the window. And then-

Boom

I woke up soon after. Me and Kaz were inside the station. It was crumbling down. I managed to drag Kaz, still knocked unconscious, outside. I saved his life.

Soon after, I passed out as well due to exhaustion.

...y!

...y, are you okay?!

Wake up!

As I woke, I see Ame standing in front of me. We were outside the station. It was destroyed. Kaz was next to me. He was awake, but still a little shocked from the explosion. He lived through worse. He’ll manage.

Ame : … Thank goodness, you two are alive…

The train exploded right as we pulled into the station.

I’m--

I’m just glad I could get us out of there in time, but everyone else---

Sure enough, only we survived. Call it dumb luck, or fate. I was glad we made it. A part of the trainers died in the actual explosion. I reckon they were the lucky ones. The others were trapped in the cabins when the train fell into the lake. They were unlucky. The water here was pure toxic. Boats would melt when in contact with the water. I’ve never seen anything like this. Some drowned while others…. melted. Nasty way to go. But what can we do. I caught a glimpse of their bodies before they melted. I couldn’t let Kaz see it.

Jack : Just. Don’t...

Ame : Well… there’s no use thinking about that now. Why did this have to happen…? Who would even--

??? : Hihi!

Ame : ...Julia.

charjulia.png.794f08263e45b624b1cfa060764087ac.pngI disliked the way she said that. Down the street came this woman dressed in a yellow cheerleader uniform.

Ame : Julia, what did you do?

Julia : Whaaaat? I didn’t do anything! I was at the gym-gym and then suddenly BOOOOM, so I came running! Cuz you know if things are exploding, I gotta be there to see it. It’s so cool!!!

Ame : Uh huh. Based on the timing, this must have been a deliberate attack.

She made sense. The timespan she was gone was the perfect moment to destroy the station and stop her prevent her arrival in Reborn. But the bomb setting off right when the train arrived? It was premedited.

Ame : Somebody rigged the train to destroy Grandview Station

Julia : By the looks of it, they did a pretty good job!

Ame : Well, you’re not wrong. But this isn’t the time to be admiring their work. Whoever was behind it could still be monitoring from nearby… I’ll have the perimeter locked down. There’s a chance we could catch the perpetrator before they get away.

Sorry Jack, Kaz, but I have to go. Catch up with me later. Until then…

Mm, there should be another trainer who can meet you to show you around. Find her in front of the Grand Hall. It’s just down this road; you can’t miss it.

Jack : Don’t underestimate me.

Even now I can still crack jokes. But from the looks of Kaz and Ame, it wasn’t the time. At least Julia cracked a smile.

Ame : And uh, don’t worry about all of this. I’ll handle it.

And off she went. I got an uneasy feeling about the way she said “I’ll handle it”. She meant business. She was going to find who did it. One way or another.

Julia : So you’re Jack and Kaz ? I’m Julia, captain of cheer and pep, and all things bubbly and bright.

Kaz & Jack : Riiiight…

Julia : Oh, Pop Quiz! Are you going to take on the Reborn League?

Jack : Yes.

This is why I came here after all. While I battle the gym leaders, Kaz will document and study the Pokemon.

Julia : Correct! Then I’ll be seeing you very soon, because I’m also the Electric Gym Leader! I’ll be looking forward to your challenge, so go on, get down to the Grand Hall already!

And off we went.

We didn’t had to go to far to see the true face of Reborn City : streets filled with litter and cracks, ransacked and abandoned houses, and many drunks and homeless.

The Grand Hall was easy to spot. It was the newest building in Reborn city, surrounded by trees and plants. The only nice thing you could see. The police blocked the rest of the roads, so we went straight to the Hall.

At the top of the stair, stood a girl. I deduced from her attire that she must be a Battle Girl, a Trainer-Class that is specialised in Fighting-, Fire-, and Steel-type Pokémon.

??? : Hey, are you Jack and Kaz? I’m Victoria.charvictoria.png.4e1d9686036d95efb2b81590b9555846.png

Kaz : Nice to meet you.

Veronica : Likewise, it’s a pleasure to meet you, but is everything ok? I heard something happened at the station…

Kaz wanted to tell her, but I stopped him. No need to startle her.

Victoria : Well, you’re here, so I guess you’re alright. Ame asked me that I bring you in for registration too. Don’t worry, it shouldn’t take long. Let’s go inside.

Following her, we went inside the Grand Hall. The room was filled with people, mostly trainers and visitors. It had a PokeCenter and a PokeMart too, so it was well

well equipped. Must’ve cost a fortune.

At the main desk, we found Ame. She was still shocked by the events. I don’t blame her.

Ame : You’re here already. Good. And our part went smoothly as could be hoped for. We caught the suspect almost immediately. He’s being interrogated downstairs right now.

Victoria : Suspect? You mean about the station?

Ame : Yeah. And it seems it’s not working alone. But that’s not important. It’ll be taken care of. So you’re all here to get signed up for the Reborn League, right?

Victoria : That’s right! Kiki said  that it would be good for my training ,also, if I started over completely! So she asked if I could get a new Pokémon too!

Ame : Normally, we reserve them strictly for newcomers, but I suppose we can make an exception on Kiki’s request.

Victoria : Oh, thank you!

Ame : However, Jack will have the first choice and Kaz the second.

Victoria : That’s ok. I don’t mind at all.

Ame gestured to me to follow her. We went to the second floor of the building.

At the second floor, there were three large tables, red, green and blue.

Ame : These Pokémon are all set aside for new trainers to choose from. The tables go from top to bottom in order of Grass, Fire, Water and the Pokémon are arranged from left to right in the order they were discovered.

So the order would be Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos and Alola. Sounds logical.

Ame : Go ahead. Take any one you like.

I stood in front of the Fire category. I always wanted a Fire type. Now, the trick was to choose one. Charmander  was a good choice. The first starter ever discovered. Torchic  was again a viable choice. But I wanted something I was familiar with. It came down to a favourite of mine, and I chose:

Chimchar, the fire chimp Pokémon

As for a name, I chose to call him Jericho.

Jericho, the Chimchar. The first member of my team.

Back to Ame, I went down and let Kaz take his pick.

Victoria : Which one did you pick, Jack?  Oh, don’t worry. I won’t pick just to beat you; that’s silly.

Jack : Yeah. Pretty funny…

Victoria : I already know which one I want anyway

When Kaz returned, he showed chose a Grass-Type Pokemon.

He had chosen Bulbasaur  the Seed Pokemon

As Victoria went with Ame to make her choice, a strange fellow appeared, walking up to us. He was dressed in what I can simply describe as purple goth clothes.

??? : Heyyy, you two are cute.

Jack : Wait, what?

??? : What? Haha, no, I didn’t say anything!

I already had a weird feeling from that figure in the train. Now this guy…

??? : Hey, was Ame just here?

Kaz : You just missed her. She’s with someone else to choose her starter.

??? : Ohhh, so she’s with someone else. ‘Kay~

My name is Cain , how about yours?

Kaz : I’m Kaz. Nice to meet you.

Jack : I’m Jack.

Cain : Pretty names. So, by the looks of it you just got your first Pokémon. Are you gonna challenge the League?

Jack : That was the reason of me coming here, yes.

Cain : I was just coming here to resi-- well, to start over.

Kaz : Ain’t we all?

Cain : Figured I’d try try taking on this league instead.

Sooo, whaddya say to battle, Jack?

Jack : Oh, you’re on.

We both stood back. I sent out Jericho and he sent out his Nidoran , the Poison Pin Pokemon. A Poison-Type. I should be able to defeat it with Jericho. These Pokémon were young, so it wasn’t anything special, but they really can pack a punch. I learned it first hand while playing with one of my uncle’s Pokemon. His Nidoran tried to use offence, doging and landing some hits against Jericho, but we ain’t playing like that. Jericho was more that a match for Nidoran, and with a couple of Scratches, we won.

Cain : Cute AND talented ~

Now I really feel uncomfortable. I guess he likes other males, and now he placed his eye on me. Holly….

Kaz : Nice job.

Jack : Doubted for a second?

Cain : C’mon, let’s get out Pokémon healed up.

The PokéCenter was a part of the Grand Hall. Thankfully, there was no line, so we could get our Pokémon healed fast.

Just then, Ame returned with Victoria.

Victoria : There you are!

Cain : Sorry ~ I kinda stole Jack.

Ame : Oh, Cain, I forgot you were coming by.

Cain : It’s okayyyy, when you were gone I met Jack and Kaz and had some fun~

Victoria : “Had some fun”? I didn’t know you were like that, Jack…

Jack : Wait, no, no, no, no, not THAT kind of fun.

Kaz : That kind of fun, all right.

Jack : I’ll slit your throat in you sleep if you don’t shut it.

Cain : What? Haha, no, we just had a battle.

Jack : Yes, thank you!

Kaz : I was the referee!

Victoria : Oh! That does sound fun! I wanna test out my new Pokémon too, Come on, Jack, up for one more?

Jack : Any time.

Ame : All right. Cain, I’ll get you registered as a challenger while they do that. Come with me.

Cain : Ooh, yes, master~

Ame : “Master”?

Cain : Nothing~

Ame : Uh...huh. Come on.

As they left, me and Victoria battled. She chose Litten, the Fire Cat Pokémon.

The battle had the same ending like the last. Jericho winning.

Victoria : You’re no ordinary trainer, are you...

Jack : I’m just that good.

Cain : Heyyy, Ame is waiting for you guys when you’re done! I’m gonna hit the road. See ya~

And with that, Cain left. Something tells me this isn’t the last time I meet him.

Victoria : Oh, good. Let’s go get registered for the League.

Back at the main desk, Ame gave us our official Trainer Cards. These thing are vital in taking on the League. Those little cards are proof of your trainer status. They allow you to challenge the gyms.

We then got our PokeDexes, electronic devices designed to catalogue and provide information regarding the various species of Pokémon. They were also used for activating TMs. You introduce the disk into the Dex and you connect it to the PokeBall. Next, pairs of Running Shoes from Sliph Co and finally, the PokeGear. This device allows you to play music and check the map. Portable computers. Ame wished us goodluck and she returned to interrogating the suspect. Victoria soon left, and there was only me and Kaz. We looked at each other, and with large smiles on our faces, we went outside to have our first ever battle: his Bulbasaur vs Jericho, my Chimchar.

Here we go.

Ahh! Welcome fellow Pokemon Reborn Story Teller Writer!... I might have to find a shortened name for that but anyways! I'm loving this so far. I haven't seen 1 of these where someone is talking about 2 characters instead of just the 1 MC so that's double interesting. But I will say this. I only liked the parts with Jack & Kaz talking and stuff like that. I know you're trying to stay close to the story but I feel it's ok to change other characters dialogue. Maybe even tweak the characters personalities a bit. But then again, maybe you were planning to do that after this. IDK! Haha. But yea. I'm looking forward to more of this. :)
