Non-Starter representes typings

Recommended Posts

Curious question for Monotype enjoyers.

Knowing that Rock, Ice, Bug, Normal, Dragon, and Electric are the only types that don't have a Starter representing them.

How do people choose their first Starter?

Is It the first pokemon of that type that you encounter in the game? Can you replace-hack the starter with whatever normal pokémon (as in non-legendary or mythical or UBs) you want as long as It has either of those typings?

Kind of curious ngl

Either goes, depending on who you ask. I did not allow pokemon that evolve into a type in my mono-fairy ones, but only the ones that have it or mega into it (but I have to mega them as soon as possible), and I simply defeated Venam with a Jigglypuff and Wigglytuff.

The general ruling is that, if said pokemon evolution line has that specific typing that you want to Monorun then it's legal.
Basically evolved secondary typing's fair game and yes even Mega evolution counts

So in this case Mono Dragon run can have either Treecko or Charmander as a starter.

You can also pick whatever starter and use it until you get access to said typing, for example for Bug you can use it until gain access to Wurmple in nearby grass/ for Ice you can use it until gain access to casino (and coin case) where you can get Seel the earliest ice type if i remember correctly. Then you must box the starter

There are many rulings but generally it was pretty lax for starters
