Munchlax

As Snorlax is my favorite pokemon besides Gengar...I obviously need a Munchlax to evolve. 

 

I know there is an in-game trade for it...but how late into the game is it? I am at the part where Team Meteor stole the girls I saved from the orphanage, and at the fighting dojo area. Am I close at all?

It's actually much later on, unfortunately. You can't get it until the city with the 11th gym badge (I'm assuming you only have 4-5 right now). Perhaps you can find someone willing to trade you one instead.

The trade for Munchlax is with a girl in the Pokemon centre of Calcenon City, which is too late in the game to get a happiness-based evolving pokemon...  

Edit: I thought it was for Qwilfish, not Whiscash... Girl says she wants to cuddle one and then says ''what you mean it'd hurt?'' I remember the joke very clearly...
