{Hardcore Rock-Mono Run}

Oh boy, oh boy, I decided to put myself through a rock mono of hardcore, and this run was made possible by the one and only Commander.

Anyway, Commander started me off with these pokemon, considering you have zero rock type pokemon available to you before Julia, and then one available before Flobot.

(Sorry for no screenshots for the first few battles)
Fern wasn't too hard, as Shuckle was allowed to get both sticky web and rocks off, which allowed Amaura and Aerodactyl to come in and destroy Fern's team.

The battle at the meteor base took a little bit of luck, as Shuckle led off with Fern's Roselia, Shuckle spammed stuggle bug until he died, then Rhyhorn came in and used smack down on Magmar, and with a crit, KO'd it. Then Rhyhorn got low swept and I switched Amaura in to use take down and avoid low sweep for two turns and won.

Then came Julia, which I believe took somewhere along the lines of 5 attempts.

I started the battle with my signature lead, Shuckle, and prayed to the RNG gods that Magnemite didn't use sonicboom, which allowed me to set up a sticky web, pop its balloon with struggle bug, and then even set up rocks all before going down.

753a205a62.png

Then, I switch Rhyhorn in and bulldozed it down

Julia then put her Chinchou into battle, and I sent my Lileep out. Lileep used confuse ray and then got crit twice by water gun, got a stat boost off of ancient power, which allowed Lileep to make Julia use both of her potions and leave Chinchou low enough to fall to a bulldoze, which is what happened.

82d607f63e.png

Then Julia's Heliolisk came in, so I switch to my Amaura to slow it down with two icy winds, then R
hyhorn was allowed to switch in and safely KO Heliolisk with bulldoze.

Julia's Emolga then came in, landed a quick attack for a meager 4 damage on Rhyhorn and fell to a smack down.

Julia then sent her Voltorb out, to which I responded with my Aerodactyl. I used the first turn to heal Rhyhorn to full HP, which is conveniently enough to live 3 sonicbooms, then landed two bites on the voltorb due to a lucky flinch. Aerodactyl then fell to a charge beam and the Rhyhorn was allowed to sweep the floor with voltorb with bulldoze.

Then, Julia's ace came out, Electrode. With 44 hp left, I knew there was no way I could possibly lose, but then Julia missed a sonicboom and just made victory that much more sweet.

And that was the battle, we received our badge and got to walk away.

Victoria was really easy, but I don't imagine her being easy lasting for very long.

Anyway, I led with Aerodactyl, and she led with Scraggy, and I spammed wing attack until she used all of her potions and Scraggy fell.

93d4f55cf3.png

Then she sent in Kirlia, and I sent in Amaura to kill it with an icy wind and a take down.

2caf6fa5de.png

Makuhita was then put into battle and immediately got one shot by a wing attack from Aerodactyl.

Next was Poliwag, so I switched in Lileep, used confuse ray, and spammed ancient power, which led to me getting a stat boost and KO'ing Poliwag.

90c0b41313.png

Then victoria sent her ace, Pignite, in, and since I had a stat boost, I stayed in with Lileep and hit Pignite with two more ancient powers before falling, then Aerodactyl came in and finished the battle with a wing attack.

I just beat the Scraggy gang, after about 10~ tries, very difficult, but I prevailed.

I led with Shuckle and Probopass. With Probopass having sturdy, it was able to get thunderwave off on both Scraggys, and Shuckle set up wraps on both Scraggys. Then I set up sticky web and stealth rocks with Shuckle while Probopass got a few magnet bombs off due to parahax, but eventually fell, and in doing that, that Scraggy of evil used toxic on Shuckle. When Probopass went down I brought out Amaura because the level 20 Scraggy made of pure evil set up 3 Iron Defenses so I could icy wind it down, and as I did that I also took out Dragonborn, which brought big Boss out, and at this point I was in a hurry to get rid of this level 20 +6 defense scraggy so I start spamming icy wind and bind to kill it, and it goes down just as Amaura gets brick bread'ed by Big Boss, on the same turn, Shuck falls to toxic damage. I then bring in Rhyhorn and Aerodactyl to sweep up the last two. I take Tyson down first with a bulldoze and wing attack, and Aerodactyl eats a brick break from Big Boss and barely lives, then Big Boss gets taken out by another wing attack bulldoze combo.

Aren't you a bit adamant in trying to force that pun? I know you're having a rocky time, but try to have a gneiss time, alright? It's not as sedimentary as Sherlock Holmes would have you believe, but if you aggregate your ideas, you'll have a landslide of fun in the long run. Don't you feel like you're getting boulder by the minute? But don't you go get in a quarry with anyone here, these tips I'm giving you, are solid as concrete... Hmmm, I may have a cobble ideas left, but I can't think of any at the moment. But if you do your best I'm sure you'll become a rock-star in no time!

That seems like it took a decent bit of effort, so I'll thank you for the puns.

Either way, Cain was really easy, sticky web/rocks on his Grimer with Shuckle. Lileep took care of Dewott, got two stat boosts, Rhyhorn took care of Nidorino, and Aerodactyl took care of Venonat and Gastly with ease.

PULSE Tanglegrowth was a bit more of a problem though, but only took two attempts. I led with Shuckle as always, and with contrary, I got to tank Tanglegrowth for a very long time and got it to half health and through one super potion. I then threw a few more pokemon at Tanglegrowth and eventually KO'ed it with a take down from Amaura.

WELCOME TO HELL!

But really, welcome to the mono rock run clubs! I wasn't brave enough to do Hardcore but that's why there are crazy people like you who will! If everything hated rocks in a normal run, everything is REALLY going to hate rocks in a hardcore run. Good luck my rocky friend. May your fossils serve you well.

Yeah your run was really cool, so I thought, how could I do this, but a little better, so I chose to subject myself to hardcore, and I'm really glad that Commander hooked me up with a few extra mons that I didn't ask for because I probably wouldn't have been able to even beat Julia if he didn't.

Nevertheless, Fern was pretty easy this time around. Good old Shuckle led and got off a sticky web and rocks, then I swapped into Lileep to get a storm drain boost off of water pulse, then Lileep and Ludicolo had an intense giga drain/bullet seed battle, where Lileep came out on top, and made Fern use both of his super potions. Fern then swapped to his Grovyle, which got one shot by a wing attack from Aerodactyl, then Ferroseed came out, and my new pokemon, Slugma, came out and used incinerate to 2 hit it. Roselia was next, and it just got 2 shot by wing attack from Aerodactyl. Finally was Fern's servine, which got a crit off of Aerodactyl and KO'd it, so I sent in Amaura and ended the fight with an aurora beam.

Holy shit, I finally beat Florinia. She beat me until I had ZERO pokeyen, literally zero. Well, the winning fight went like this:

Shuckle lead, got off sticky web, stealth rocks, and one stuggle bug, and the enemy Cacturne got two layers of spikes up before KO'ing Shuckle with feint attack, just getting these three moves off proved to be a struggle in previous fights. Aerodactyl then came in and made Flo use both of her super potions on Cacturne pointlessly before Aerodactyl KO'ing Cacturne with no health missing.

Breloom then switched into Aerodactyl only to get obliterated by a wing attack.

Then, the real fight started, Gourgeist came in, and I switched in my new member, Slugma, which did nothing because it died to bullet seed, so I then switched to Aerodactyl to wing attack Gourgeist to death, but after the first trade of wing attack and shadow sneak, Florinia switch Gourgeist for Grotle. I then continued to use wing attack the Grotle until Florinia switch again to Tropius. I continues to wing attack seeing no other option considering Tropius is one dragon dance away from sweeping me. Tropius used toxic for some reason, and missed, which allowed Aerodactyl to take Tropius down without taking any damage. I then had the chance to swap to Amaura which easily one shot the two damaged pokemon that fought my Aerodactyl.

Finally was Florinia's very own Cradily, I first used aurora beam and took about 1/5 of its health and got taken out by rock slide. I then swapped out to Probopass, where I used thunder wave even thought I was faster(I didn't get any para hax at all) and spammed magnet bomb until I won the match. I'll admit that this took a lot of luck, but a victory is a victory.

Tbh, most of the mons I added on were for Florinia just as a backup, except Rhyhorn. That one was admittedly laziness.

Taka wasn't hard at all.

I led with Shuckle, set up my sticky web and rocks and even got a stuggle bug off before falling to an ancient power. I then switch Probopass in and got through all of Taka's potions and eventually KO'ed Lileep with magnet bombs.

Next was Gligar, so I switched into Amaura which took a bulldoze and OHKO'd Gligar with a single aurora beam.

Next was Tangrowth, so I figured that once I set the field on fire with Slugma, that I wouldn't get much use out of Amaura, so I stayed in and got an aurora beam off before going down to a giga drain, leaving Tangrowth pretty healthy. I then put Slugma into battle and used flame burst, which took about half of Tangrowth's health, and set the field on fire, which also took about 1/4 of Tangrowth's health. Taka then switch into Klefki, which got OHKO'ed by flame burst, and then switch back into Tangrowth, which died to stealth rocks damage.

Finally, taka sent his ace, Chatot in. With Slugma's last turn I used a super potion on Probopass, then when Slugma got KO'ed I switch Probopass in to thunder wave Chatot and use power gem until I got the victory.

Thanks to our friend, Njab, the run will continue.

Either way, the Taka/zel fight wasn't too incredibly difficult, and ended up being easier than I thought it would be.

On the first turn, I led with Shuckle and Probopass. The enemy Glaceon spammed a combination of icy winds and ice fangs and the Lileep used mega drain and ancient power a whole lot while Probopass thunderwaved both of them and Shuckle set up rocks and sticky web. Shuckle then fell to an ancient power and I then switch my Anorith into battle. Anorith got to use fury cutter once before getting KO'd to an ancient power and icy wind combo, that same turn, Glaceon fell to a power gem from Probopass.

At this point Probopass is still pretty healthy, so I keep it in for a bit more, and the enemy Jolteon gets swapped in, and in order to prevent Probopass from falling to a double kick from Jolteon, I put Amaura into battle to tank one double kick and spam icy wind for a few turns when Anorith gets KO'ed. Amaura gets two icy winds off before getting KO'ed, but that same turn, both Lileep and Jolteon fall, and Probopass is still healthy.

This turn I send Aerodactyl into battle because Taka's Gligar also entered the battle. zel sends his Umbreon into battle as well. I sent Aerodactyl into battle because there's something in the code that prevents bulldoze from being used when there's a flying type on the other side, so Gligar was limited to using feint attack and quick attack where Umbreon used feint attack a few times. I took advantage of this and took Umbreon out after a few turns, and then zel switched his last pokemon, Espeon, in. I quickly KO'ed Espeon with a bite from Aerodactyl and power gem from Probopass.

Now that zel's side was completely obliterated, I focused all of my efforts on the Gligar who still wasn't using bulldoze. Next was Taka's Tangrowth, which fell after about 3 turns consistent of 3 wing attacks and 3 power gems. Finally was Taka's Chatot, which fell to an ancient power from Aerodactyl and a power gem from Probopass.

This fight was rather annoying, but nothing too insane.

I led the fight off with Shuckle, and Corey led with his Garbordor, and we then exchanged entree hazards

368f5b5ea2.png

I then swapped out to my Probopass because giga drain is a poison type move on this field, so Garbordor literally could deal no damage to Probopass, and 2 super potions and 16 power gems later, Garbordor falls.

f086119557.png

Next, Corey sends his Beedrill into battle, and I swap out to my Aerodactyl. I use ancient power just incase I get a stat boost, and Corey uses endeavor, I then finish the Beedrill off with a wing attack.

857f8e36e7.png

Corey then sends his Vileplume in, and I respond by sending my Probopass back out to accomplish 2 things. The first of which is to paralyze Vileplume and the second is to heal Aerodactyl back to full health with a super potion.

7944150c3b.png

I then switch back into my Aerodactyl and take Vileplume out with two wing attacks after roosting waiting for Vileplume to get parahax'ed.

2fe8c0ca37.png

Next was Corey's Stunktank, so I stayed in with my Aerodactyl who was near full health due to roost to wittle it down with wing attacks. Aerodactyl manages to get it to about 1/4 health before falling to a night slash.

3c9e1dcac4.png

I then switch to my Rhyhorn who tanks a single venoshock before KO'ing Stunktank with a bulldoze.

2e5924075d.png

Corey's Haunter was next, so I responded to it by sending my Probopass out and paralyzing it. I then KO it with two power gems and a single magnet bomb while also getting a super potion off due to parahax.

a400d34aa1.png

Finally was Corey's Crobat which got paralyzed and then crit by power gem, which ended the fight.

3bf414670e.png

Corey then told us to go to the bridge to watch him kill himself, off to Beryl Ward.

Victoria was seemingly impossible, so I did a little bit of grinding.

As always, I led with Shuckle, set up my rocks and sticky web, while the enemy Scraggy set up a dd and killed me after I got to use wrap once.

4c60448405.png

I then switched into Aerodactyl, outsped Scraggy and KO'ed it with a wing attack.

9897f70ff4.png

Next, Victoria sent in her Poliwrath, and then I sent in the first fruit of my grind, my brand new Cradily which I trained to 40 then used common candies to bring back down. I giga drained the Poliwrath through both of Victoria's potions and KO'ed it.

757fdbf23c.png

Next was Gallade, so I switched out to Aerodactyl and traded wing attacks for shadow sneaks and KO'ed Gallade.

d2096bc6d7.png

Hariyama was the next pokemon to deal with, so I sent out the second pokemon that I grinded up, and the new member of my team, Graveler. I got off one bulldoze, then followed that with a self destruct to leave Hariyama very low.

d3695371e2.png

When Graveler fell, I sent Aerodactyl out to revenge kill Hariyama with a wing attack.

c4e3495bc9.png

Finally, Victoria's ace was sent out, and to deal with it I sent out my Cradily to use brine on it twice before Emboar set up a bulk up and then KO'ed my Cradily with a brick break.

30cde10836.png

Then, I sent out Aerodactyl to hopefully revenge kill it, but I left it with a slither of hp, then Aerodactyl got taken down by a heat crash. So I ended the fight with Probopass with sturdy and power gem.

88981d9956.png

And now I'm onto Shelly.

Well. I pulled out a win against Shelly, where I had thought I was gonna get destroyed. I will admit that I played a bit sloppy, but a win is a win, and I even beat her without using Macargo like I thought I was going to have to.

Just like always, I led with Shuckle, but this fight, Shuckle put in a lot more work than normal. Besides the normal sticky web and rocks, due to Shuckle's ability, contrary, struggle bug increased its attack, so while Shuckle was tanking struggle bugs, its attack was actually being put through the roof, and allowed Shuckle to make Shelly use both of her potions, and even lowered Illumise' special attack to -6 before going down.

910277e321.png

I then sent in Probopass just to paralyze Illumise and set up a sandstorm.

62a1762c9a.png

Next, I switched into Graveler to take Illumise out with two rock blasts.

3c6adcf3b0.png

This was where I really started to play sloppy, when Masquerain came out I should have either used thunder wave or power gem, instead I played it very poorly and set up a sandstorm and then got KO'ed by a crit energy ball the next turn.

928e676f70.png

Thankfully, I had the option of going out to Aerodactyl to revenge kill this thing.

Next came out Crustle, and this was another one of my blunders. I sent out Cradily to deal with it, and I completely forgot that sandstorm increased the Crustle's special defense by 50% and I only got off one giga drain before getting OHKO'ed by a shell smash boosted X-Scissor.

136f819923.png

Again, Aerodactyl was luckily there to revenge kill the Crustle with an ancient power.

d818ded8dd.png

Forretress really did a number on my team. I switched out to my Graveler first, I used rock blast twice before falling to a second gyro ball. I then put Aurorus into battle(I grinded up to 39 then common candyed down) and hit it with an ancient power that left it very low before falling to another gyro ball. Aerodactyl then came in and finished the Forretress off with another ancient power.

63ecd9985c.png

Scyther came in with 50% health due to stealth rocks and quickly got OHKO'ed by ancient power.

9cd6b6db3f.png

Finally, Shelly's ace Yanmegga came in, also with 50% health due to stealth rocks and also got OHKO'ed by ancient power. At the end of this fight I have come to appreciate Aerodactyl much more.

The last Fern fight infuriated me to a point where I just stopped taking screenshots after the 12~ try.

So, the fight more or less went as follows:

I led off with Probopass, paralyzed Ludicolo and set up sanstorm. Then I switched to Cradily to get a storm drain boost off of scald. I then confuse ray'ed for parafusion and spammed giga drain until Fern used both potions and Ludicolo fell.

Next was Fern's Sceptile, so I switched in my brand new Armaldo. After taking a drain punch and a leaf blade, two bug bites brought the Sceptile down.

Fern then sent in his Serperior, so I switched to my very weak Probopass and hoped he would set up a coil while I paralyzed it. Better yet, he went for outrage and left Probopass at 2 hp, let me get a paralyze and set sandstorm up. Probopass then fell and I went back to Armaldo which two shot the parafused Serperior with bug bite.

Roserade was next, so with sandstorm still up, I knew Amaurus could live a few hits of whatever Roserade had, so I sent it our and icy winded twice before falling to giga drain. Aerodactyl then came in and revenge killed the Roserade for me.

Finally was Fern's Ferrothorn, and to deal with it I whipped my Macargo out and 2 shot it with lava plume.

And that was the fight, the luckiest part about this was 100% Serperior using outrage on my Probopass.

Well, to say the least, Cain was a nice break from how silly Fern was.

I led the fight off with Cradily in order to counter Sammurott, and after two giga drains, Sammurott fell without the use of any potions.

0faace650b.png

Next was Cain's Muk, so I sent my Rhyhorn out to counter it. After two bulldozed and tanking one poison jab, Muk also fell.

f3a84e6fae.png

At this point, I had a plan, and that was to use Probopass to set up sandstorm and then use the 50% increase to all of my pokemon's special defense to simply tank anything Nidoking had and KO it, but sadly, you can't set any weather effects up on this field, so Probopass fell in vain.

44124a9394.png

I then panicked and sent out Cradily to hopefully get some confusion hax off, but alas, all Cradily got off was one giga drain before Nidoking broke out of confusion after not even hitting itself once and KO'ed Cradily.

3bb8bec41b.png

I then sent in Aurorus to deal with Nidoking, which is what I should have done in the first place. Two aurora beams put Nidoking down.

ba234783f0.png

Venemoth then came out, and I countered with my Aerodactyl, and with a field boosted wing attack, I OHKO'ed the Venemoth.

a69a9a454a.png

Finally, Cain's Haunter came out, and I let Aerodactyl stay in and use crunch twice to get the win.

24f92cf3c2.png

Cain was not too hard at all, perhaps rock simply does well versus his team overall.

Shade was a son of a bitch, mostly because Rotom can't be paralyzed with thunder wave, but other than that, Shade wasn't crazy. I just needed the first 5~ turns to go my way.

So on turn 1, I led with the MVP, Shuckle, and got my rocks and sticky web up.

8676120498.png

After I got my rocks and stick web up, I needed to slow Rotom down somehow, so I put Aurorus in when Shuckle fell to icy wind Rotom twice before letting it get KO'ed.

f55d8df508.png

Now that Rotom was slowed down, I switched in Rhydon to KO Rotom cleanly with a stone edge.

5c30e2df06.png

Next, Shade sent his Golurk in, and this pokemon is the reason why I needed sticky web up. Without sticky web, Golurk outspeeds my Cradily, and that leads to Cradily gettinggetting KO'ed. But with Cradily going first, I got to get Golurk down to 1/4 health, then Shade used both of his potions, which just let Cradily get back to full hp and KO'ing Golurk.

02bad180f3.png

Shade then sent his Aegislash out, so I responded by sending my Rhydon out to counter it. Rhydon actually went first because of sticky web, and after two bulldozes, Aegislash went down, but put a huge chunk in Rhydon's health.

5b0c7b3595.png

Shade then sent his Dusknoir out, and I sent my Aerodactyl out. Dusknoir used shadow claw, and I used crunch, The first crunch got a defense drop, and in response to that, Shade switch out to his Gengar.

90d75097f7.png

After taking that crunch, Gengar was very low, and thus, fell the next turn because Aerodactyl outsped it.

2d5e419a0e.png

Dusknoir then came back out, and promptly got crunched, then KO'ed.

53d6389b1e.png

Shade's ace, Chandelure, then came out, and in response, I sent out Probopass to fulfill its destiny. Probopass' only job in this fight was to paralyze either Chandelure or Gengar, but thanks to Shade switching in on a crunch, I didn't have to paralyze Gengar to KO it. Probopass also got a power gem off after paralyzing Chandelure.

cc96078ef7.png

I then switched Rhydon in for the final blow on the paralyzed Chandelure.

82527e3050.png

And that was the fight, it took a whole bunch of tries, but, I made it, and I'm damn proud. Now I get to fight Kiki, but I already have a plan to take her out.
