Favorite War Game?

I haven't played much war games and I am looking for a fun war game. I'm looking for a war game that is like call of duty but you can command your troops.

Right now I am playing Moderan war game so I am going to see how good it is.

Idk if you mean FPS games or more strategy/manage-your-empire games, but if you're talking about the latter: I've always greatly enjoyed the Total War series (Rome, Rome II, Medieval, etc)

Pretty sure there was a star wars game like that once, fps but you could command your npc squad to do certain things.

I really wish there was game that blended RTS and FPS. One person controls things, top down, and others control hero units, fps, to help defend or capture objectives.

If by "War" the meaning is an RTS game, I've always enjoyed the Stronghold series of games, especially Crusader. In terms of FPS, I tend to have little experience with those games and the best I can think of is Team Fortress 2.
