  1. Yeah that part is definitely a good size hurdle. If you want some advice you can post your team, but I definitely understand too if you wanna go it solo. The challenge can be frustrating but super rewarding too when you clear a battle you've been stuck on for a while!
  2. I think for me the main issue I ran into with ice was just a few "roadblock" pokemon, specifically the ones that are "only" weak to fire, or that you are really supposed to use fire to beat. The only other problem I had was just lack of options. You have a FEW but your team is pretty locked in and the pokemon you don't have the tools to face can be pretty rough. Also, ice is one of the most fragile types imo due to the base Stats and weaknesses. The new content in E19 (no spoilers) was fairly rough I found just because the glass cannon playstyle of ice could have major trouble if you couldn't wipe things before they set up (I know I've posted this multiple times now but mega scyther in particular is the bane of my existence) especially when he gets off a Swords dance and just bullet punches through your whole team lol
  3. Yeah I could see the ice run being much easier with a cloyster just because it can be such a powerhouse with shell smash and skill link. I ran it with the passwords and dang it can be tough getting through the early game and late game. I think Walrien was one of the only reasons I got through that run. My main issue with ice was that there were a few pokemon that you can hardly touch late game, Mega scizor especially. I do forsee bug being a good bit easier with some powerful options, I just feel some of them are in a strange spot in the late game. Most of the bug types are rather brittle and I feel like for certain fights it really helps to have a wall. The two top bugs imo are heracross and scizor, but it just REALLY hurts that they each have a 4x weakness. I think they are technical enough that you can overcome most obstacles with the right planning, but for the MOST part I would put them above some of the top contenders on the list. I will probably update the list more as I complete more runs, but I honestly get the feeling that it is pretty spot on, maybe just a few switches in position here and there as I work my way through.
  4. Thanks! And yeah I love hearing feedback on runs too, I feel like a lot of times people have different strategies or ideas on how to beat runs. For me in the dragon run there were a few times I had to battle item buff turtonator and sweet just because ice types destroyed everyone except for him. I think a few of the runs are placed a little lower on the ranking mostly because of super late game, where stat totals become a bit bigger deal, and abilities as well as STAB effectiveness as well. For example, normal has some GREAT pokemon but it kinda sucks that normal isn't super effective against anything so it makes it a bit harder. I haven't done fairy yet but im kinda dreading it a bit. Their weaknesses are a bit inconvenient since Steel and poison moves are used as "coverage" on a ton of pokemon, but we will see how it goes!
  5. Lol don't feel too bad. I'm pretty sure even the easiest mono type run is still one of the most challenging ways to play the game. What part are you having trouble with?
  6. Yeah cloister did carry pretty hard a few times, shell smash is a hell of a move. I'm assuming once I get minior with acrobatics and shell smash I'll be coasting for a good bit, although that is REALLY late in the game. Good point about the strong fire types too, I would honestly give fighting and Fire a tie if I could lol. Even with the slowness of fighting types they still have access to some tech like vacuum wave nasty plot toxicroak and moxie heracross which can be pretty brutal in their own right, but yknow now that I think about it I think Fire may very well edge out fighting by just a hair due to them having more access to field-altering effects. Heat wave does some WORK on multiple different fields and can turn any tank or sweeper into a field setter in a pinch if need be... so yeah I could see flipping Fire and fighting. I think the challenge for me with flipping ice and rock though is that ice is weak to literally EVERY major attack type, being fighting fire Rock and steel. I find that Rock has access to a few tools that ice GENERALLY lacks too such as access to a few different pokemon with sturdy, which can be a godsend. Also, im a fan of earthquake golem as well as metal burst sturdy aggron. But I haven't got all the way through with Rock yet, I'm just getting to apophyll which I am assuming will be the first "big" hurdle.
  7. Wow thanks for the reply! I really agree with almost all of what you said, the only things i would disagree with is I think that fighting still edges out fire by a TINY bit just because fires weakness to earth and rock can be rough, especially with the amount of earthquakes and rock slides that get thrown around. But I think they are SUPER close. Also I actually am in the middle of my rock solo run right now, and I already did the ice run and so far I think rock is just a teensy bit more solid. The reasoning is that rock has a little more wiggle room in the selection department, and that NO ice types learn any fire moves, so mega scizor becomes a tremendous threat late game. All in all though I think the rest of the changes are completely fair! I would say my list has adjusted to reflect these changes : Also, the only runs I have done so far are electric, ice, dragon, and I'm currently on rock. I have done my best to do the lowest tiers first and save the easier ones for last. So far it looks like I've done ok staying to the bottom. Electric and ice were honestly brutal since you just don't have that many mon to choose from and dragon was AWFUL until the third or fourth gym when you could start pushing for evos and get a few more dragons other than the almighty swarm of noibats lol
  8. Hello all, It has been a dream of mine for the last few years (while waiting for the final update of reborn) to complete the game (just to the credits post E4, not all the way through endgame) with EVERY mono type run. I would like to share my opinions on a rough "ranking list" for difficulty of the mono run. I would love some feedback/thoughts on the list, and am open to switching some spots around. A small disclaimer too, I am looking at this WHOLISTICALLY, so ideally I don't want to put a team on the top JUST because they "have an OP lategame" or "will breeze through the story early" but those are definitely things to take into consideration and will affect the final placement. Without further ado, here is my list! : (from easiest to hardest) Looking forward to having some discussion about this!!! Finally Finished!!! I will say just because you have a hard time dealing with fast flying threats, of which there are a few, I would say Fighting gets bumped down a notch or two, probably coming in #2 now. Overall though I think the leveling process of going through the game was much smoother with fighting but whereas it felt like fire started harder and got easier, Fighting was the opposite and got a bit more difficult towards the late game.
  9. I actually have sort of a rough ranking list for them.... Electric, Ice, dragon, rock, and grass are the hardest runs by far. Electric and ice are just weak types in general to carry a mono run, and the game doesn't give you any good dragon types until a bit later in the story. Grass and rock are hard because they each have 5 weaknesses. I would say the easier types to edge your way into a mono run would be fire, flying, ghost, or steel. Fire is a great offensive type and can alter a bunch of terrain to be really beneficial to your team, flying is a pairing with a huge variation of types and you can generally cover your weaknesses, ghost gives you access to things like curse which can get you out of tight spots and has 2 immunities in normal and fighting, and steel just has a buttload of resists. The thing I really love about mono runs is how it really shapes your game. For example, for a steel run fire types are REALLY scary because you don't have many mon that can resist it, and some of your strongest mon (scizor and ferrothorn) have a 4x weakness so they get burned to a crisp at the lightest touch of fire.... it makes for a really interesting game because people like Cal become TERRIFYING while other people like Aya become laughably easy. It makes it easy to have a headcannon about who you are as a trainer and you can choose the dialogue options that make 'sense' for you... for example on a dark run maybe you just be the biggest jerk you could possibly be and take all the 'negative' options, whereas in a fairy run maybe you take all the 'good' options. Just another of the many many amazing ways to enjoy the game!!! Edit: got a little carried away with the post... tldr I'd start with a fire, ghost, flying, or steel those should be a LITTLE easier!
  10. I'm gonna guess Spotify is whismur/loudred/exploud? (Do I have to get the right Evo too or just the mon line?)
  11. Looks good! I would personally swap pyroar with speed boost blaziken though, but pyroar should work fine.
  12. I know I'm coming in a bit late to this discussion, but I would say one of my hands down favorite walls is walrien. You can breed him to learn yawn, and he is tanky as hell on his own AND can have the ability thick fat which makes him take reduced damage from fire and ice moves. Depending on how you wanna build him he can just take shots and return fire with surf, which even if he isn't a sweeper hits REALLY hard and can transition a lot of fields/has some good synergies with some fields. All in all fat walrus boy 10/10 would choose again.
  13. I would agree with the above posts that blaziken is a really strong core pokemon, although I would say bringing on a tanky pokemon with yawn would be the best. I think you can get walrien from mystery egg or slakoth from somewhere in the early game if im not mistaken? Anyways, I would swap ludicolo for a walrien and maybe grab a mawile or something like that since it can iron defense/stockpile and then baton pass to walrien to be an omega tank or to blaziken to set up to sweep. Either way I would say you definitely want a mix of sweepers and walls for your core, along with a field/hazard setter if you find one you like.
  14. I don't mind at all! It was your idea in the first place too for a canonical team, which I think is pretty awesome in itself. I have been trying to beat the game (reach the end credits not necessarily all the endgame content) with every monotype and dang is it taking me a bit. I am making it at a pretty good clip though, already have the ice, electric, and dragon runs down which I would consider some of the hardest and now I'm currently on the rock mono run. After I get done with all those though im gonna be really tempted to try the "changeling" run myself too!!!
  15. Personally, looking at the team build out I would say the weakest point is that you have a LOT of sweepers but not many walls/tanks. I would consider dropping gyrados for walrien, just to have a mon that can take some hits. Especially in the late game the battles can get very "who is faster" in the sweeping department and since you USUALLY fight on opponent-favoring fields it can make a big difference to have a pokemon that can survive 2 or 3 big shots. I also agree with the above saying that the type overlap can be not very helpful, I would consider maybe training up dragalge since it has a really high special defense stat and learns toxic spikes so he could be a decent hazard setter.
  16. Also, I think it makes some of Fern's dialogue have more impact, like when he keeps calling you "cheap" I think it would hit a bit harder if you were using a ditto to reverse sweep his team with his own pokemon for example...
  17. So here is another potential take of it though... our main protagonist kind of shifts and morphs their morals, ideals, and strategies to face the many hurdles on the adventure. For example, we work for the police force during the tangrowth pulse portion of the game, but also end up joining a gang and then flipping BACK to help pay to restore the city... for all this I would say maybe it would be cool if the "cannon" team was equally as shape-shifty... like I'm thinking Greninja (who changes types mid battle), kecleon (who has camouflage to change to the arena typing), ditto (who morphs into the actual opponent, type null (who can change types with the memory you give it), and maybe like porygon (the download ability makes them "match" an opponent) and for the last one castform (who shifts with the weather) I know this isn't necessarily a list that fits with the "major events" of the game, but I think it would establish you as a player as more of the wildcard and make you different enough from all the other characters in the game, as you literally ADAPT to any situation. I think it would also add a fun level of challenge since you would have a very high interaction rate with the fields and such. Just a thought but if I ever end up doing a "canon" run, that may be what I go for Tl;Dr: make a team of shapeshifters because as a Canon, you are the most flexible character
  18. I can't remember all the pokemon, but I feel like the ones you release from the 7th street black market should be a choice too. I know it's TECHNICALLY a sidequest, but it has tie ins to DJ Arclight and also seems pretty on brand with you being the "good guy" (releasing the smuggled pokemon)
  19. The geodude-graveler- golem line you can get from under the grand staircase is EXTREMELY useful. It has some pretty glaring weaknessess to grass and water buuuut it also has access to natural stab eq, which can pretty much 1HKO anything without flying and break a lot of feild effects i.e. serras, Luna's, Blake's, cave, electric one (also it has sturdy which will give it an almost 100% chance to get at least 1eq off before it goes down)
  20. Ah sorry didn't mean for it to come off as an attack, the organization is just not super clear without seeing more information i.e. movesets, abilities, ivs/evs . And yeah Aegislash is a great mon that can really stall things out if you need too through Kings sheild
  21. Well you certainly have quite the collection!.... The mon you have are all pretty top teir, although I would personally recommend getting comfortable with only about 5 or so of them that have good synergy and type coverage. The best way I have found to construct a solid team is to find your "ace" first. In this case let's just say you select garchomp as your base. Garchomp is a very solid Mon who can shred through teams but can be shut down if he hits an ice type or certain other high powered dragon's (looking at you saphira's Dragonite). So what you could do is throw in aggron to deal with ice types and then throw in Charizard to deal with dragons since it gets dragon moves but won't take super effective damage from them in return. After that, since you have type coverage you might want to think about a solid "setter" like galvantula with sticky web to make sure in almost all cases the enemy is slower than you. And the last thing is to throw some optional supports like Gardevoir or emolga who can throw up barriers/ paralyze the enemy and give you time to set up garchomp in order to sweep. Anyway hope this helps! I give your current team a 7/10 just because all the peices are there but they lack organization and a strategy behind them. But hey good luck in episode 18! Can't wait to see if it's gonna be hardy or saphira we gotta face off against!
  22. Idk I'm thinking a team of 6 level 1 bidoof's would really suprise saphira/Hardy. They would never see it coming. Probably would just give the badge straight up, wouldn't even have to fight em they would be so scared
  23. So what I would do in this scenario is first of all break the field with eaither boomburst or eq. You might have to play around for a bit to find a way to do it by either outspeeding the cryagonal or not getting one shot but that's the first step. Then follow up with paralyzing the cryagonal with emolga and start stacking xdefends, xsp defends and xatks and xspds on your Hawlucha until you can hjk through the entire team. Just make sure you have enough bulk to get through the sturdy ice/Rock Mon (blanking on it's name) and you may need another move to get rid of the froslass but tbh they are pretty weak defensively so you should be able to ohko it with a flying move if you have to as long as you are stacked up. Tl;Dr 1.break field 2. Cripple opponent (shock wave emolga) 3. Stack up attacker with a hard hitting rock/fighting/steel move 4. Sweep
